- 十字架の 言は， 滅び 行く 者には 愚かであるが， 救にあずかるわたしたちには， 神の 力である．
- すなわち， 聖書に， ／「わたしは 知者の 知惠を 滅ぼし， ／賢い 者の 賢さをむなしいものにする 」／と 書いてある．
- 知者はどこにいるか． 學者はどこにいるか． この 世の 論者はどこにいるか． 神はこの 世の 知惠を， 愚かにされたではないか．
- この 世は， 自分の 知惠によって 神を 認めるに 至らなかった． それは， 神の 知惠にかなっている． そこで 神は， 宣敎の 愚かさによって， 信じる 者を 救うこととされたのである．
- ユダヤ 人はしるしを 請い， ギリシヤ 人は 知惠を 求める．

- For the preaching of the cross is to them that perish foolishness; but unto us which are saved it is the power of God.
- For it is written, I will destroy the wisdom of the wise, and will bring to nothing the understanding of the prudent.
- Where is the wise? where is the scribe? where is the disputer of this world? hath not God made foolish the wisdom of this world?
- For after that in the wisdom of God the world by wisdom knew not God, it pleased God by the foolishness of preaching to save them that believe.
- For the Jews require a sign, and the Greeks seek after wisdom:

- しかしわたしたちは， 十字架につけられた キリスト を 宣べ 傳える． この キリスト は， ユダヤ 人にはつまずかせるもの， 異邦人には 愚かなものであるが，
- 召された 者自身にとっては， ユダヤ 人にも ギリシヤ 人にも， 神の 力， 神の 知惠たる キリスト なのである．
- 神の 愚かさは 人よりも 賢く， 神の 弱さは 人よりも 强いからである．
- 兄弟たちよ． あなたがたが 召された 時のことを 考えてみるがよい． 人間的には， 知惠のある 者が 多くはなく， 權力のある 者も 多くはなく， 身分の 高い 者も 多くはいない．
- それだのに 神は， 知者をはずかしめるために， この 世の 愚かな 者を 選び， 强い 者をはずかしめるために， この 世の 弱い 者を 選び，

- But we preach Christ crucified, unto the Jews a stumblingblock, and unto the Greeks foolishness;
- But unto them which are called, both Jews and Greeks, Christ the power of God, and the wisdom of God.
- Because the foolishness of God is wiser than men; and the weakness of God is stronger than men.
- For ye see your calling, brethren, how that not many wise men after the flesh, not many mighty, not many noble, are called:
- But God hath chosen the foolish things of the world to confound the wise; and God hath chosen the weak things of the world to confound the things which are mighty;

- 有力な 者を 無力な 者にするために， この 世で 身分の 低い 者や 輕んじられている 者， すなわち， 無きに 等しい 者を， あえて 選ばれたのである．
- それは， どんな 人間でも， 神のみまえに 誇ることがないためである．
- あなたがたが キリスト · イエス にあるのは， 神によるのである． キリスト は 神に 立てられて， わたしたちの 知惠となり， 義と 聖とあがないとになられたのである．
- それは， 「誇る 者は 主を 誇れ 」と 書いてあるとおりである．

- And base things of the world, and things which are despised, hath God chosen, yea, and things which are not, to bring to nought things that are:
- That no flesh should glory in his presence.
- But of him are ye in Christ Jesus, who of God is made unto us wisdom, and righteousness, and sanctification, and redemption:
- That, according as it is written, He that glorieth, let him glory in the Lord.
