- 偶像への 供え 物について 答えると， 「わたしたちはみな 知識を 持っている 」ことは， わかっている． しかし， 知識は 人を 誇らせ， 愛は 人の 德を 高める．
- もし 人が， 自分は 何か 知っていると 思うなら， その 人は， 知らなければならないほどの 事すら， まだ 知っていない．
- しかし， 人が 神を 愛するなら， その 人は 神に 知られているのである．
- さて， 偶像への 供え 物を 食べることについては， わたしたちは， 偶像なるものは 實際は 世に 存在しないこと， また， 唯一の 神のほかには 神がないことを， 知っている．
- というのは， たとい 神¿といわれるものが， あるいは 天に， あるいは 地にあるとしても， そして， 多くの 神， 多くの 主があるようではあるが，

- Now as touching things offered unto idols, we know that we all have knowledge. Knowledge puffeth up, but charity edifieth.
- And if any man think that he knoweth any thing, he knoweth nothing yet as he ought to know.
- But if any man love God, the same is known of him.
- As concerning therefore the eating of those things that are offered in sacrifice unto idols, we know that an idol is nothing in the world, and that there is none other God but one.
- For though there be that are called gods, whether in heaven or in earth, (as there be gods many, and lords many,)

- わたしたちには， 父なる 唯一の 神のみがいますのである． 万物はこの 神から 出て， わたしたちもこの 神に 歸する． また， 唯一の 主 イエス · キリスト のみがいますのである． 万物はこの 主により， わたしたちもこの 主によっている．
- しかし， この 知識をすべての 人が 持っているのではない． ある 人¿は， 偶像についての， これまでの 習慣上， 偶像への 供え 物として， それを 食べるが， 彼らの 良心が， 弱いために 汚されるのである．
- 食物は， わたしたちを 神に 導くものではない． 食べなくても 損はないし， 食べても 益にはならない．
- しかし， あなたがたのこの 自由が， 弱い 者たちのつまずきにならないように， 氣をつけなさい．
- なぜなら， ある 人が， 知識のあるあなたが 偶像の 宮で 食事をしているのを 見た 場合， その 人の 良心が 弱いため， それに「敎育されて 」， 偶像への 供え 物を 食べるようにならないだろうか．

- But to us there is but one God, the Father, of whom are all things, and we in him; and one Lord Jesus Christ, by whom are all things, and we by him.
- Howbeit there is not in every man that knowledge: for some with conscience of the idol unto this hour eat it as a thing offered unto an idol; and their conscience being weak is defiled.
- But meat commendeth us not to God: for neither, if we eat, are we the better; neither, if we eat not, are we the worse.
- But take heed lest by any means this liberty of your's become a stumblingblock to them that are weak.
- For if any man see thee which hast knowledge sit at meat in the idol's temple, shall not the conscience of him which is weak be emboldened to eat those things which are offered to idols;

- するとその 弱い 人は， あなたの 知識によって 滅びることになる． この 弱い 兄弟のためにも， キリスト は 死なれたのである．
- このようにあなたがたが， 兄弟たちに 對して 罪を 犯し， その 弱い 良心を 痛めるのは， キリスト に 對して 罪を 犯すことなのである．
- だから， もし 食物がわたしの 兄弟をつまずかせるなら， 兄弟をつまずかせないために， わたしは 永久に， 斷じて 肉を 食べることはしない．

- And through thy knowledge shall the weak brother perish, for whom Christ died?
- But when ye sin so against the brethren, and wound their weak conscience, ye sin against Christ.
- Wherefore, if meat make my brother to offend, I will eat no flesh while the world standeth, lest I make my brother to offend.
