- ヒゼキヤ 王の 第十四年に， アッスリヤ の 王 セナケリブ が 上ってきて， ユダ のすべての 堅固な 町¿を 攻め 取った．
- アッスリヤ の 王は ラキシ から ラブシャケ を エルサレム につかわし， 大軍を 率いて ヒゼキヤ 王のもとへ 行かせた． ラブシャケ は 布さらしの 野へ 行く 大路に 沿う， 上の 池の 水道のかたわらに 立った．
- この 時 ヒルキヤ の 子である 宮內卿 エリアキム ， 書記官 セブナ および アサフ の 子である 史官 ヨア が 彼の 所に 出てきた．
- ラブシャケ は 彼らに 言った， 「ヒゼキヤ に 言いなさい， 『大王 アッスリヤ の 王はこう 仰せられる， あなたが 賴みとする 者は 何か．
- 口先だけの 言葉が 戰爭をする 計略と 力だと 考えるのか． あなたは 今だれを 賴んで， わたしにそむいたのか．

- Now it came to pass in the fourteenth year of king Hezekiah, that Sennacherib king of Assyria came up against all the defenced cities of Judah, and took them.
- And the king of Assyria sent Rabshakeh from Lachish to Jerusalem unto king Hezekiah with a great army. And he stood by the conduit of the upper pool in the highway of the fuller's field.
- Then came forth unto him Eliakim, Hilkiah's son, which was over the house, and Shebna the scribe, and Joah, Asaph's son, the recorder.
- And Rabshakeh said unto them, Say ye now to Hezekiah, Thus saith the great king, the king of Assyria, What confidence is this wherein thou trustest?
- I say, sayest thou, (but they are but vain words) I have counsel and strength for war: now on whom dost thou trust, that thou rebellest against me?

- 見よ， あなたはかの 折れかけている 葦のつえ エジプト を 賴みとしているが， それは 人が 寄りかかるとき， その 人の 手を 刺し 通す． エジプト の 王 パロ はすべて 寄り 賴む 者にそのようにするのだ．
- しかし， あなたがもし「われわれはわれわれの 神， 主を 賴む 」とわたしに 言うならば， ヒゼキヤ が ユダ と エルサレム に 告げて， 「あなたがたはこの 祭壇の 前で 禮拜しなければならない 」と 言って 除いたのは， その 神の 高き 所と 祭壇ではなかったのか．
- さあ， 今わたしの 主君 アッスリヤ の 王とかけをせよ． もしあなたの 方に 乘る 人があるならば， わたしは 馬二千頭を 與えよう．
- あなたは エジプト を 賴み， 戰車と 騎兵を 請い 求めているが， わたしの 主君の 家來のうちの 最も 小さい 一隊長でさえ， どうして 擊退することができようか．
- わたしがこの 國を 滅ぼすために 上ってきたのは， 主の 許しなしでしたことであろうか． 主はわたしに， この 國へ 攻め 上って， これを 滅ぼせと 言われたのだ 』」．

- Lo, thou trustest in the staff of this broken reed, on Egypt; whereon if a man lean, it will go into his hand, and pierce it: so is Pharaoh king of Egypt to all that trust in him.
- But if thou say to me, We trust in the LORD our God: is it not he, whose high places and whose altars Hezekiah hath taken away, and said to Judah and to Jerusalem, Ye shall worship before this altar?
- Now therefore give pledges, I pray thee, to my master the king of Assyria, and I will give thee two thousand horses, if thou be able on thy part to set riders upon them.
- How then wilt thou turn away the face of one captain of the least of my master's servants, and put thy trust on Egypt for chariots and for horsemen?
- And am I now come up without the LORD against this land to destroy it? the LORD said unto me, Go up against this land, and destroy it.

- その 時， エリアキム ， セブナ および ヨア は ラブシャケ に 言った， 「どうぞ， アラム 語でしもべたちに 話してください． わたしたちはそれがわかるからです． 城壁の 上にいる 民の 聞いているところで， わたしたちに ユダヤ の 言葉で 話さないでください 」．

- そして ラブシャケ は 立ちあがり， ユダヤ の 言葉で 大聲に 呼ばわって 言った， 「大王， アッスリヤ の 王の 言葉を 聞け．
- 王はこう 仰せられる， 『あなたがたは ヒゼキヤ に 欺かれてはならない． 彼はあなたがたを 救い 出すことはできない．
- ヒゼキヤ が， 主は 必ずわれわれを 救い 出される． この 町は アッスリヤ の 王の 手に 陷ることはない， と 言っても， あなたがたは 主を 賴みとしてはならない 』．

- Then said Eliakim and Shebna and Joah unto Rabshakeh, Speak, I pray thee, unto thy servants in the Syrian language; for we understand it: and speak not to us in the Jews' language, in the ears of the people that are on the wall.
- But Rabshakeh said, Hath my master sent me to thy master and to thee to speak these words? hath he not sent me to the men that sit upon the wall, that they may eat their own dung, and drink their own piss with you?
- Then Rabshakeh stood, and cried with a loud voice in the Jews' language, and said, Hear ye the words of the great king, the king of Assyria.
- Thus saith the king, Let not Hezekiah deceive you: for he shall not be able to deliver you.
- Neither let Hezekiah make you trust in the LORD, saying, The LORD will surely deliver us: this city shall not be delivered into the hand of the king of Assyria.

- あなたがたは ヒゼキヤ の 言葉を 聞いてはならない． アッスリヤ の 王はこう 仰せられる， 『あなたがたは， わたしと 和ぼくして， わたしに 降服せよ． そうすれば， あなたがたはめいめい 自分のぶどうの 實を 食べ， めいめい 自分のいちじくの 實を 食べ， めいめい 自分の 井戶の 水を 飮むことができる．
- やがて， わたしが 來て， あなたがたを 一つの 國へ 連れて 行く． それは， あなたがたの 國のように 穀物とぶどう 酒の 多い 地， パン とぶどう 畑の 多い 地だ．
- ヒゼキヤ が， 主はわれわれを 救われる， と 言って， あなたがたを 惑わすことのないように 氣をつけよ． もろもろの 國の 神¿のうち， どの 神がその 國を アッスリヤ の 王の 手から 救ったか．
- ハマテ や アルパデ の 神¿はどこにいるか． セパルワイム の 神¿はどこにいるか． 彼らは サマリヤ をわたしの 手から 救い 出したか．
- これらの 國¿のすべての 神¿のうちに， だれかその 國をわたしの 手から 救い 出した 者があるか． 主がどうして エルサレム をわたしの 手から 救い 出すことができよう 』」．

- Hearken not to Hezekiah: for thus saith the king of Assyria, Make an agreement with me by a present, and come out to me: and eat ye every one of his vine, and every one of his fig tree, and drink ye every one the waters of his own cistern;
- Until I come and take you away to a land like your own land, a land of corn and wine, a land of bread and vineyards.
- Beware lest Hezekiah persuade you, saying, the LORD will deliver us. Hath any of the gods of the nations delivered his land out of the hand of the king of Assyria?
- Where are the gods of Hamath and Arphad? where are the gods of Sepharvaim? and have they delivered Samaria out of my hand?
- Who are they among all the gods of these lands, that have delivered their land out of my hand, that the LORD should deliver Jerusalem out of my hand?

- しかし 民は 默ってひと 言も 答えなかった． 王が 命じて， 「彼に 答えてはならない 」と 言っておいたからである．

- But they held their peace, and answered him not a word: for the king's commandment was, saying, Answer him not.
- Then came Eliakim, the son of Hilkiah, that was over the household, and Shebna the scribe, and Joah, the son of Asaph, the recorder, to Hezekiah with their clothes rent, and told him the words of Rabshakeh.
