- わが 子よ， あなたがもし ／隣り 人のために 保證人となり， 他人のために 手をうって 誓ったならば，
- もしあなたのくちびるの 言葉によって， わなにかかり， あなたの 口の 言葉によって 捕えられたならば，
- わが 子よ， その 時はこうして， おのれを 救え， あなたは 隣り 人の 手に 陷ったのだから． 急いで 行って， 隣り 人にひたすら 求めよ．
- あなたの 目を 眠らせず， あなたのまぶたを， まどろませず，
- かもしかが， かりゅうどの 手からのがれるように， 鳥が 鳥を 取る 者の 手からのがれるように， おのれを 救え．

- My son, if thou be surety for thy friend, if thou hast stricken thy hand with a stranger,
- Thou art snared with the words of thy mouth, thou art taken with the words of thy mouth.
- Do this now, my son, and deliver thyself, when thou art come into the hand of thy friend; go, humble thyself, and make sure thy friend.
- Give not sleep to thine eyes, nor slumber to thine eyelids.
- Deliver thyself as a roe from the hand of the hunter, and as a bird from the hand of the fowler.

- なまけ 者よ， ありのところへ 行き， そのすることを 見て， 知惠を 得よ．
- ありは， かしらなく， つかさなく， 王もないが，
- 夏のうちに 食物をそなえ， 刈入れの 時に， かてを 集める．
- なまけ 者よ， いつまで 寢ているのか， いつ 目をさまして 起きるのか．
- しばらく 眠り， しばらくまどろみ， 手をこまぬいて， またしばらく 休む．

- Go to the ant, thou sluggard; consider her ways, and be wise:
- Which having no guide, overseer, or ruler,
- Provideth her meat in the summer, and gathereth her food in the harvest.
- How long wilt thou sleep, O sluggard? when wilt thou arise out of thy sleep?
- Yet a little sleep, a little slumber, a little folding of the hands to sleep:

- それゆえ， 貧しさは 盜びとのようにあなたに 來り， 乏しさは， つわもののようにあなたに 來る．

- So shall thy poverty come as one that travelleth, and thy want as an armed man.
