- 神の 僕， イエス · キリスト の 使徒 パウロ から ――わたしが 使徒とされたのは， 神に 選ばれた 者たちの 信仰を 强め， また， 信心にかなう 眞理の 知識を 彼らに 得させるためであり，
- 僞りのない 神が 永遠の 昔に 約束された 永遠のいのちの 望みに 基くのである．
- 神は， 定められた 時に 及んで， 御言を 宣敎によって 明らかにされたが， わたしは， わたしたちの 救主なる 神の 任命によって， この 宣敎をゆだねられたのである ――
- 信仰を 同じうするわたしの 眞實の 子 テトス へ． 父なる 神とわたしたちの 救主 キリスト · イエス から， 惠みと 平安とが， あなたにあるように．
- あなたを クレテ においてきたのは， わたしがあなたに 命じておいたように， そこにし 殘してあることを 整理してもらい， また， 町¿に 長老を 立ててもらうためにほかならない．

- Paul, a servant of God, and an apostle of Jesus Christ, according to the faith of God's elect, and the acknowledging of the truth which is after godliness;
- In hope of eternal life, which God, that cannot lie, promised before the world began;
- But hath in due times manifested his word through preaching, which is committed unto me according to the commandment of God our Saviour;
- To Titus, mine own son after the common faith: Grace, mercy, and peace, from God the Father and the Lord Jesus Christ our Saviour.
- For this cause left I thee in Crete, that thou shouldest set in order the things that are wanting, and ordain elders in every city, as I had appointed thee:

- 長老は， 責められる 点がなく， ひとりの 妻の 夫であって， その 子たちも 不品行のうわさをたてられず， 親不孝をしない 信者でなくてはならない．
- 監督たる 者は， 神に 仕える 者として， 責められる 点がなく， わがままでなく， 輕¿しく 怒らず， 酒を 好まず， 亂暴でなく， 利をむさぼらず，
- かえって， 旅人をもてなし， 善を 愛し， 愼み 深く， 正しく， 信仰深く， 自制する 者であり，
- 敎にかなった 信賴すべき 言葉を 守る 人でなければならない． それは， 彼が 健全な 敎によって 人をさとし， また， 反對者の 誤りを 指摘することができるためである．

- If any be blameless, the husband of one wife, having faithful children not accused of riot or unruly.
- For a bishop must be blameless, as the steward of God; not selfwilled, not soon angry, not given to wine, no striker, not given to filthy lucre;
- But a lover of hospitality, a lover of good men, sober, just, holy, temperate;
- Holding fast the faithful word as he hath been taught, that he may be able by sound doctrine both to exhort and to convince the gainsayers.
