- 子たちよ． だれにも 惑わされてはならない． 彼が 義人であると 同樣に， 義を 行う 者は 義人である．
- 罪を 犯す 者は， 惡魔から 出た 者である． 惡魔は 初めから 罪を 犯しているからである． 神の 子が 現れたのは， 惡魔のわざを 滅ぼしてしまうためである．
- すべて 神から 生れた 者は， 罪を 犯さない． 神の 種が， その 人のうちにとどまっているからである． また， その 人は， 神から 生れた 者であるから， 罪を 犯すことができない．
- 神の 子と 惡魔の 子との 區別は， これによって 明らかである． すなわち， すべて 義を 行わない 者は， 神から 出た 者ではない． 兄弟を 愛さない 者も， 同樣である．
- わたしたちは 互に 愛し 合うべきである． これが， あなたがたの 初めから 聞いていたおとずれである．

- Little children, let no man deceive you: he that doeth righteousness is righteous, even as he is righteous.
- He that committeth sin is of the devil; for the devil sinneth from the beginning. For this purpose the Son of God was manifested, that he might destroy the works of the devil.
- Whosoever is born of God doth not commit sin; for his seed remaineth in him: and he cannot sin, because he is born of God.
- In this the children of God are manifest, and the children of the devil: whosoever doeth not righteousness is not of God, neither he that loveth not his brother.
- For this is the message that ye heard from the beginning, that we should love one another.

- カイン のようになってはいけない． 彼は 惡しき 者から 出て， その 兄弟を 殺したのである． なぜ 兄弟を 殺したのか． 彼のわざが 惡く， その 兄弟のわざは 正しかったからである．
- 兄弟たちよ． 世があなたがたを 憎んでも， 驚くには 及ばない．
- わたしたちは， 兄弟を 愛しているので， 死からいのちへ 移ってきたことを， 知っている． 愛さない 者は， 死のうちにとどまっている．
- あなたがたが 知っているとおり， すべて 兄弟を 憎む 者は 人殺しであり， 人殺しはすべて， そのうちに 永遠のいのちをとどめてはいない．
- 主は， わたしたちのためにいのちを 捨てて 下さった． それによって， わたしたちは 愛ということを 知った． それゆえに， わたしたちもまた， 兄弟のためにいのちを 捨てるべきである．

- Not as Cain, who was of that wicked one, and slew his brother. And wherefore slew he him? Because his own works were evil, and his brother's righteous.
- Marvel not, my brethren, if the world hate you.
- We know that we have passed from death unto life, because we love the brethren. He that loveth not his brother abideth in death.
- Whosoever hateth his brother is a murderer: and ye know that no murderer hath eternal life abiding in him.
- Hereby perceive we the love of God, because he laid down his life for us: and we ought to lay down our lives for the brethren.

- 世の 富を 持っていながら， 兄弟が 困っているのを 見て， あわれみの 心を 閉じる 者には， どうして 神の 愛が， 彼のうちにあろうか．
- 子たちよ． わたしたちは 言葉や 口先だけで 愛するのではなく， 行いと 眞實とをもって 愛し 合おうではないか．
- それによって， わたしたちが 眞理から 出たものであることがわかる． そして， 神のみまえに 心を 安んじていよう．
- なぜなら， たといわたしたちの 心に 責められるようなことがあっても， 神はわたしたちの 心よりも 大いなるかたであって， すべてをご 存じだからである．
- 愛する 者たちよ． もし 心に 責められるようなことがなければ， わたしたちは 神に 對して 確信を 持つことができる．

- But whoso hath this world's good, and seeth his brother have need, and shutteth up his bowels of compassion from him, how dwelleth the love of God in him?
- My little children, let us not love in word, neither in tongue; but in deed and in truth.
- And hereby we know that we are of the truth, and shall assure our hearts before him.
- For if our heart condemn us, God is greater than our heart, and knoweth all things.
- Beloved, if our heart condemn us not, then have we confidence toward God.

- そして， 願い 求めるものは， なんでもいただけるのである． それは， わたしたちが 神の 戒めを 守り， みこころにかなうことを， 行っているからである．
- その 戒めというのは， 神の 子 イエス · キリスト の 御名を 信じ， わたしたちに 命じられたように， 互に 愛し 合うべきことである．
- 神の 戒めを 守る 人は， 神におり， 神もまたその 人にいます． そして， 神がわたしたちのうちにいますことは， 神がわたしたちに 賜わった 御靈によって 知るのである．

- And whatsoever we ask, we receive of him, because we keep his commandments, and do those things that are pleasing in his sight.
- And this is his commandment, That we should believe on the name of his Son Jesus Christ, and love one another, as he gave us commandment.
- And he that keepeth his commandments dwelleth in him, and he in him. And hereby we know that he abideth in us, by the Spirit which he hath given us.
