- 皇帝 テベリオ 在位の 第十五年， ポンテオ · ピラト が ユダヤ の 總督， ヘロデ が ガリラヤ の 領主， その 兄弟 ピリポ が イツリヤ · テラコニテ 地方の 領主， ルサニヤ が アビレネ の 領主，
- アンナス と カヤパ とが 大祭司であったとき， 神の 言が 荒野で ザカリヤ の 子 ヨハネ に 臨んだ．
- 彼は ヨルダン のほとりの 全地方に 行って， 罪のゆるしを 得させる 悔改めの バプテスマ を 宣べ 傳えた．
- それは， 預言者 イザヤ の 言葉の 書に 書いてあるとおりである． すなわち ／「荒野で 呼ばわる 者の 聲がする， 『主の 道を 備えよ， その 道筋をまっすぐにせよ 』．
- すべての 谷は 埋められ， すべての 山と 丘とは， 平らにされ， 曲ったところはまっすぐに， わるい 道はならされ，

- Now in the fifteenth year of the reign of Tiberius Caesar, when Pontius Pilate was governor of Judea, and Herod was tetrarch of Galilee, and his brother Philip was tetrarch of the region of Ituraea and Trachonitis, and Lysanias was tetrarch of Abilene,
- in the high priesthood of Annas and Caiaphas, the word of God came to John, the son of Zacharias, in the wilderness.
- And he came into all the district around the Jordan, preaching a baptism of repentance for the forgiveness of sins;
- as it is written in the book of the words of Isaiah the prophet, "THE VOICE OF ONE CRYING IN THE WILDERNESS, 'MAKE READY THE WAY OF THE LORD, MAKE HIS PATHS STRAIGHT.
- 'EVERY RAVINE WILL BE FILLED, AND EVERY MOUNTAIN AND HILL WILL BE BROUGHT LOW; THE CROOKED WILL BECOME STRAIGHT, AND THE ROUGH ROADS SMOOTH;

- 人はみな 神の 救を 見るであろう 」．
- さて， ヨハネ は， 彼から バプテスマ を 受けようとして 出てきた 群衆にむかって 言った， 「まむしの 子らよ， 迫ってきている 神の 怒りから， のがれられると， おまえたちにだれが 敎えたのか．
- だから， 悔改めにふさわしい 實を 結べ． 自分たちの 父には アブラハム があるなどと， 心の 中で 思ってもみるな． おまえたちに 言っておく． 神はこれらの 石ころからでも， アブラハム の 子を 起すことができるのだ．
- 斧がすでに 木の 根もとに 置かれている． だから， 良い 實を 結ばない 木はことごとく 切られて， 火の 中に 投げ ¿まれるのだ 」．
- そこで 群衆が 彼に， 「それでは， わたしたちは 何をすればよいのですか 」と 尋ねた．

- AND ALL FLESH WILL SEE THE SALVATION OF GOD.'"
- So he began saying to the crowds who were going out to be baptized by him, "You brood of vipers, who warned you to flee from the wrath to come?
- "Therefore bear fruits in keeping with repentance, and do not begin to say to yourselves, 'We have Abraham for our father,' for I say to you that from these stones God is able to raise up children to Abraham.
- "Indeed the axe is already laid at the root of the trees; so every tree that does not bear good fruit is cut down and thrown into the fire."
- And the crowds were questioning him, saying, "Then what shall we do?"

- 彼は 答えて 言った， 「下着を 二枚もっている 者は， 持たない 者に 分けてやりなさい． 食物を 持っている 者も 同樣にしなさい 」．
- 取稅人も バプテスマ を 受けにきて， 彼に 言った， 「先生， わたしたちは 何をすればよいのですか 」．
- 彼らに 言った， 「きまっているもの 以上に 取り 立ててはいけない 」．
- 兵卒たちもたずねて 言った， 「では， わたしたちは 何をすればよいのですか 」． 彼は 言った， 「人をおどかしたり， だまし 取ったりしてはいけない． 自分の 給與で 滿足していなさい 」．
- 民衆は 救主を 待ち 望んでいたので， みな 心の 中で ヨハネ のことを， もしかしたらこの 人がそれではなかろうかと 考えていた．

- And he would answer and say to them, "The man who has two tunics is to share with him who has none; and he who has food is to do likewise."
- And some tax collectors also came to be baptized, and they said to him, "Teacher, what shall we do?"
- And he said to them, "Collect no more than what you have been ordered to."
- Some soldiers were questioning him, saying, "And what about us, what shall we do?" And he said to them, "Do not take money from anyone by force, or accuse anyone falsely, and be content with your wages."
- Now while the people were in a state of expectation and all were wondering in their hearts about John, as to whether he was the Christ,

- そこで ヨハネ はみんなの 者にむかって 言った， 「わたしは 水でおまえたちに バプテスマ を 授けるが， わたしよりも 力のあるかたが， おいでになる． わたしには， そのくつのひもを 解く 値うちもない． このかたは， 聖靈と 火とによっておまえたちに バプテスマ をお 授けになるであろう．
- また， 箕を 手に 持って， 打ち 場の 麥をふるい 分け， 麥は 倉に 納め， からは 消えない 火で 燒き 捨てるであろう 」．
- こうして ヨハネ はほかにもなお， さまざまの 勸めをして， 民衆に 敎を 說いた．
- ところで 領主 ヘロデ は， 兄弟の 妻 ヘロデヤ のことで， また 自分がしたあらゆる 惡事について， ヨハネ から 非難されていたので，
- 彼を 獄に 閉じ ¿めて， いろいろな 惡事の 上に， もう 一つこの 惡事を 重ねた．

- John answered and said to them all, "As for me, I baptize you with water; but One is coming who is mightier than I, and I am not fit to untie the thong of His sandals; He will baptize you with the Holy Spirit and fire.
- "His winnowing fork is in His hand to thoroughly clear His threshing floor, and to gather the wheat into His barn; but He will burn up the chaff with unquenchable fire."
- So with many other exhortations he preached the gospel to the people.
- But when Herod the tetrarch was reprimanded by him because of Herodias, his brother's wife, and because of all the wicked things which Herod had done,
- Herod also added this to them all: he locked John up in prison.

- さて， 民衆がみな バプテスマ を 受けたとき， イエス も バプテスマ を 受けて 祈っておられると， 天が 開けて，
- 聖靈がはとのような 姿をとって イエス の 上に 下り， そして 天から 聲がした， 「あなたはわたしの 愛する 子， わたしの 心にかなう 者である 」．

- Now when all the people were baptized, Jesus was also baptized, and while He was praying, heaven was opened,
- and the Holy Spirit descended upon Him in bodily form like a dove, and a voice came out of heaven, "You are My beloved Son, in You I am well-pleased."
