	역대하 24:1-25:28 요아스는 제사장 여호야다가 살아 있을 동안에는 선정을 베풀었으나, 그가 죽자 우상 숭배에 빠져 선지자 스가랴를 살해하는 등의 범죄를 자행하였다. 그리하여 아람 왕 하사엘의 침입을 받고, 결국 신하들의 모반으로 살해당하였다. 그의 뒤를 이은 아마샤는 초기에는 하나님의 말씀에 순종하여 전승의 영광을 얻었으나, 교만해져서 하나님을 버린 후에는 타락의 일로를 걷다가 결국 반역의 희생물이 되고 말았다.

	요아스의 유다 통치(24:1-24:27)

ヨアシは位についた時七歲で，エルサレムで四十年の間，世を治めた．彼の母はベエルシバから出た者で名をヂビアといった．

ヨアシは祭司エホヤダの世にある日の間は常に主の良しと見られることを行った．

エホヤダは彼のためにふたりの妻をめとり，彼に男子と女子が生れた．

この後ヨアシは主の宮を修繕しようと志して，

祭司とレビびとを集めて言った，「ユダの町¿へ行って，あなたがたの神の宮を年¿修繕する資金をすべてのイスラエルびとから集めなさい．その事を急いでしなさい」．ところがレビびとはこれを急いでしなかった．

Joash was seven years old when he became king, and he reigned forty years in Jerusalem; and his mother's name was Zibiah from Beersheba.

Joash did what was right in the sight of the LORD all the days of Jehoiada the priest.

Jehoiada took two wives for him, and he became the father of sons and daughters.

Now it came about after this that Joash decided to restore the house of the LORD.

He gathered the priests and Levites and said to them, "Go out to the cities of Judah and collect money from all Israel to repair the house of your God annually, and you shall do the matter quickly." But the Levites did not act quickly.

それで王はかしらであるエホヤダを召して言った，「あなたはなぜレビびとに求めて，主のしもべモ ― セがあかしの幕屋のためにイスラエルの會衆に課した稅金をユダとエルサレムから取り立てさせないのか」．

かの惡い女アタリヤの子らが神の宮に侵入して主の宮のもろもろの奉納物をとり，バアルのために用いたからである．

そこで王は命じて一個の箱を造らせ，これを主の宮の門の外に置き，

ユダとエルサレムにふれて，神のしもべモ ― セが荒野でイスラエルに課した稅金を主のために持ってこさせた．

すべてのつかさたちおよびすべての民は皆喜んでその稅金を持って來て，その箱に投げ入れたので，ついに箱はいっぱいになった．

So the king summoned Jehoiada the chief priest and said to him, "Why have you not required the Levites to bring in from Judah and from Jerusalem the levy fixed by Moses the servant of the LORD on the congregation of Israel for the tent of the testimony?"

For the sons of the wicked Athaliah had broken into the house of God and even used the holy things of the house of the LORD for the Baals.

So the king commanded, and they made a chest and set it outside by the gate of the house of the LORD.

They made a proclamation in Judah and Jerusalem to bring to the LORD the levy fixed by Moses the servant of God on Israel in the wilderness.

All the officers and all the people rejoiced and brought in their levies and dropped them into the chest until they had finished.

レビびとはその箱に金が多くあるのを見て，王の役人の所へ持って行くと，王の書記と祭司長の下役とが來て，その箱を傾け，これを取ってもとの所に返した．彼らは日¿このようにして金をおびただしく集めた．

王とエホヤダはこれを主の宮の工事をなす者に渡し，石工および木工を雇って，主の宮を修繕させ，また鐵工および靑銅工を雇って，主の宮を修復させた．

工人たちは ¿いたので，修復の工事は彼らの手によってはかどり，神の宮を，もとの狀態に復し，これを堅固にした．

それをなし終ったとき，余った金を王とエホヤダの前に持って來たので，それをもって主の宮のために器物を造った．すなわち勤めの器， §祭の器，香の皿，および金銀の器を造った．エホヤダの世にある日の間は，絶えず主の宮で §祭をささげた．

しかしエホヤダは年老い，日が滿ちて死んだ．その死んだ時は百三十歲であった．

It came about whenever the chest was brought in to the king's officer by the Levites, and when they saw that there was much money, then the king's scribe and the chief priest's officer would come, empty the chest, take it, and return it to its place. Thus they did daily and collected much money.

The king and Jehoiada gave it to those who did the work of the service of the house of the LORD; and they hired masons and carpenters to restore the house of the LORD, and also workers in iron and bronze to repair the house of the LORD.

So the workmen labored, and the repair work progressed in their hands, and they restored the house of God according to its specifications and strengthened it.

When they had finished, they brought the rest of the money before the king and Jehoiada; and it was made into utensils for the house of the LORD, utensils for the service and the burnt offering, and pans and utensils of gold and silver. And they offered burnt offerings in the house of the LORD continually all the days of Jehoiada.

Now when Jehoiada reached a ripe old age he died; he was one hundred and thirty years old at his death.

人¿は彼をダビデの町で王たちの中に葬った．彼はイスラエルにおいて神とその宮とに良い事を行ったからである．

エホヤダの死んだ後，ユダのつかさたちが來て，うやうやしく王に敬意を表した．王は彼らに聞き從った．

彼らはその先祖の神，主の宮を捨てて，アシラ像および偶像に仕えたので，そのとがのために，怒りがユダとエルサレムに臨んだ．

They buried him in the city of David among the kings, because he had done well in Israel and to God and His house.

But after the death of Jehoiada the officials of Judah came and bowed down to the king, and the king listened to them.

They abandoned the house of the LORD, the God of their fathers, and served the Asherim and the idols; so wrath came upon Judah and Jerusalem for this their guilt.

Yet He sent prophets to them to bring them back to the LORD; though they testified against them, they would not listen.

Then the Spirit of God came on Zechariah the son of Jehoiada the priest; and he stood above the people and said to them, "Thus God has said, 'Why do you transgress the commandments of the LORD and do not prosper? Because you have forsaken the LORD, He has also forsaken you.'"

しかし人¿は彼を害しようと計り，王の命によって，石をもって彼を主の宮の庭で擊ち殺した．

このようにヨアシ王はゼカリヤの父エホヤダが自分に施した惠みを思わず，その子を殺した．ゼカリヤは死ぬ時，「どうぞ主がこれをみそなわして罰せられるように」と言った．

年の終りになって，スリヤの軍勢はヨアシにむかって攻め上り，ユダとエルサレムに來て，民のつかさたちをことごとく民のうちから滅ぼし，そのぶんどり物を皆ダマスコの王に送った．

この時スリヤの軍勢は少數で來たのであるが，主は大軍を彼らの手に渡された．これは彼らがその先祖の神，主を捨てたためである．このように彼らはヨアシを罰した．

スリヤ軍はヨアシに大傷を負わせて捨て去ったが，ヨアシの家來たちは祭司エホヤダの子の血のために，黨を結んで彼にそむき，彼を床の上に殺して，死なせた．人¿は彼をダビデの町に葬ったが，王の墓には葬らなかった．

So they conspired against him and at the command of the king they stoned him to death in the court of the house of the LORD.

Thus Joash the king did not remember the kindness which his father Jehoiada had shown him, but he murdered his son. And as he died he said, "May the LORD see and avenge!"

Now it happened at the turn of the year that the army of the Arameans came up against him; and they came to Judah and Jerusalem, destroyed all the officials of the people from among the people, and sent all their spoil to the king of Damascus.

Indeed the army of the Arameans came with a small number of men; yet the LORD delivered a very great army into their hands, because they had forsaken the LORD, the God of their fathers. Thus they executed judgment on Joash.

When they had departed from him (for they left him very sick), his own servants conspired against him because of the blood of the son of Jehoiada the priest, and murdered him on his bed. So he died, and they buried him in the city of David, but they did not bury him in the tombs of the kings.

黨を結んで彼にそむいた者は，アンモンの女シメアテの子ザバデおよびモアブの女シムリテの子ヨザバデであった．

ヨアシの子らのこと，ヨアシに對する多くの預言および神の宮の修理の事などは，列王の書の注釋にしるされている．ヨアシの子アマジヤが彼に代って王となった．

Now these are those who conspired against him: Zabad the son of Shimeath the Ammonitess, and Jehozabad the son of Shimrith the Moabitess.

As to his sons and the many oracles against him and the rebuilding of the house of God, behold, they are written in the treatise of the Book of the Kings. Then Amaziah his son became king in his place.

	아마샤의 유다 통치(25:1-25:28)

アマジヤは王となった時二十五歲で，二十九年の間エルサレムで世を治めた．その母はエルサレムの者で，名をエホアダンといった．

アマジヤは主の良しと見られることを行ったが，全き心をもってではなかった．

彼は，國が彼の手のうちに强くなったとき，父ヨアシ王を殺害した家來たちを殺した．

しかしその子供たちは殺さなかった．これはモ ― セの律法の書にしるされている所に從ったのであって，そこに主は命じて，「父は子のゆえに殺されるべきではない．子は父のゆえに殺されるべきではない．おのおの自分の罪のゆえに殺されるべきである」と言われている．

アマジヤはユダの人¿を集め，その氏族に從って，千人の長に付屬させ，または百人の長に付屬させた．ユダとベニヤミンのすべてに行った．そして二十歲以上の者を數えたところ，やりと盾をとって戰いに臨みうる精兵三十万人を得た．

Amaziah was twenty-five years old when he became king, and he reigned twenty-nine years in Jerusalem. And his mother's name was Jehoaddan of Jerusalem.

He did right in the sight of the LORD, yet not with a whole heart.

Now it came about as soon as the kingdom was firmly in his grasp, that he killed his servants who had slain his father the king.

However, he did not put their children to death, but did as it is written in the law in the book of Moses, which the LORD commanded, saying, "Fathers shall not be put to death for sons, nor sons be put to death for fathers, but each shall be put to death for his own sin."

Moreover, Amaziah assembled Judah and appointed them according to their fathers' households under commanders of thousands and commanders of hundreds throughout Judah and Benjamin; and he took a census of those from twenty years old and upward and found them to be 300,000 choice men, able to go to war and handle spear and shield.

彼はまた銀百タラントをもってイスラエルから大勇士十万人を雇った．

その時，神の人が彼の所に來て言った，「王よ，イスラエルの軍勢をあなたと共に行かせてはいけません．主はイスラエルびと，すなわちエフライムのすべての人¿とは共におられないからです．

もしあなたがこのような方法で戰いに强くなろうと思うならば，神はあなたを敵の前に倒されるでしょう．神には助ける力があり，また倒す力があるからです」．

アマジヤは神の人に言った，「それではわたしがイスラエルの軍隊に與えた百タラントをどうしましょうか」．神の人は答えた，「主はそれよりも多いものをあなたにお與えになることができます」．

そこでアマジヤはエフライムから來て自分に加わった軍隊を分離して歸らせたので，彼らはユダに對して激しい怒りを發し，火のように怒って自分の所に歸った．

He hired also 100,000 valiant warriors out of Israel for one hundred talents of silver.

But a man of God came to him saying, "O king, do not let the army of Israel go with you, for the LORD is not with Israel nor with any of the sons of Ephraim.

"But if you do go, do it, be strong for the battle; yet God will bring you down before the enemy, for God has power to help and to bring down."

Amaziah said to the man of God, "But what shall we do for the hundred talents which I have given to the troops of Israel?" And the man of God answered, "The LORD has much more to give you than this."

Then Amaziah dismissed them, the troops which came to him from Ephraim, to go home; so their anger burned against Judah and they returned home in fierce anger.

しかしアマジヤは勇氣を出し，その民を率いて鹽の谷へ行き，セイルびと一万人を擊ち殺した．

またユダの人¿はこのほかに一万人をいけどり，岩の頂に引いて行って岩の頂から彼らを投げ落したので，皆こなごなに ¿けた．

ところがアマジヤが自分と共に戰いに行かせないで歸してやった兵卒らが，サマリヤからベテホロンまでの，ユダの町¿を襲って三千人を殺し，多くの物を奪い取った．

アマジヤはエドムびとを殺して歸った時，セイルびとの神¿を携えてきて，これを安置して自分の神とし，これを禮拜し，これにささげ物をなした．

それゆえ，主はアマジヤに向かって怒りを發し，預言者を彼につかわして言わせられた，「かの民の神¿は自分の民をあなたの手から救うことができなかったのに，あなたはどうしてそれを求めたのか」．

Now Amaziah strengthened himself and led his people forth, and went to the Valley of Salt and struck down 10,000 of the sons of Seir.

The sons of Judah also captured 10,000 alive and brought them to the top of the cliff and threw them down from the top of the cliff, so that they were all dashed to pieces.

But the troops whom Amaziah sent back from going with him to battle, raided the cities of Judah, from Samaria to Beth-horon, and struck down 3,000 of them and plundered much spoil.

Now after Amaziah came from slaughtering the Edomites, he brought the gods of the sons of Seir, set them up as his gods, bowed down before them and burned incense to them.

Then the anger of the LORD burned against Amaziah, and He sent him a prophet who said to him, "Why have you sought the gods of the people who have not delivered their own people from your hand?"

彼がこう王に語ると，王は彼に，「われわれはあなたを王の顧問にしたのですか．やめなさい．あなたはどうして殺されようとするのですか」と言ったので，預言者はやめて言った，「あなたはこの事を行って，わたしのいさめを聞きいれないゆえ，神はあなたを滅ぼそうと定められたことをわたしは知っています」．

そこでユダの王アマジヤは協議の結果，人をエヒウの子エホアハズの子であるイスラエルの王ヨアシにつかわし，「さあ，われわれは互に顔をあわせよう」と言わせたところ，

イスラエルの王ヨアシはユダの王アマジヤに言い送った，「レバノンのいばらが，かつてレバノンの香柏に，『あなたの娘をわたしのむすこの妻に與えよ』と言い送ったところが，レバノンの野¿が通りかかって，そのいばらを踏み倒した．

あなたは『見よ，わたしはエドムを擊ち破った』と言って心に誇り高ぶっている．しかしあなたは自分の家にとどまっていなさい．どうしてあなたは災を引き起して，自分もユダも共に滅びようとするのか」．

しかしアマジヤは聞きいれなかった．これは神から出たのであって，彼らがエドムの神¿を求めたので神は彼らを敵の手に渡されるためである．

As he was talking with him, the king said to him, "Have we appointed you a royal counselor? Stop! Why should you be struck down?" Then the prophet stopped and said, "I know that God has planned to destroy you, because you have done this and have not listened to my counsel."

Then Amaziah king of Judah took counsel and sent to Joash the son of Jehoahaz the son of Jehu, the king of Israel, saying, "Come, let us face each other."

Joash the king of Israel sent to Amaziah king of Judah, saying, "The thorn bush which was in Lebanon sent to the cedar which was in Lebanon, saying, 'Give your daughter to my son in marriage.' But there passed by a wild beast that was in Lebanon and trampled the thorn bush.

"You said, 'Behold, you have defeated Edom.' And your heart has become proud in boasting. Now stay at home; for why should you provoke trouble so that you, even you, would fall and Judah with you?"

But Amaziah would not listen, for it was from God, that He might deliver them into the hand of Joash because they had sought the gods of Edom.

そこでイスラエルの王ヨアシは上って來て，ユダのベテシメシでユダの王アマジヤと顔を合わせたが，

ユダはイスラエルに擊ち破られ，おのおのその天幕に逃げ歸った．

その時イスラエルの王ヨアシはエホアハズの子ヨアシの子であるユダの王アマジヤをベテシメシで捕えて，エルサレムに引いて行き，エルサレムの城壁をエフライム門から，隅の門まで四百キュビトほどをこわし，

また神の宮のうちで，オベデエドムが守っていたすべての金銀およびもろもろの器物ならびに王の家の財寶を奪い，また人質をとって，サマリヤに歸った．

ユダの王ヨアシの子アマジヤはイスラエルの王エホアハズの子ヨアシが死んで後なお十五年生きながらえた．

So Joash king of Israel went up, and he and Amaziah king of Judah faced each other at Beth-shemesh, which belonged to Judah.

Judah was defeated by Israel, and they fled each to his tent.

Then Joash king of Israel captured Amaziah king of Judah, the son of Joash the son of Jehoahaz, at Beth-shemesh, and brought him to Jerusalem and tore down the wall of Jerusalem from the Gate of Ephraim to the Corner Gate, 400 cubits.

He took all the gold and silver and all the utensils which were found in the house of God with Obed-edom, and the treasures of the king's house, the hostages also, and returned to Samaria.

And Amaziah, the son of Joash king of Judah, lived fifteen years after the death of Joash, son of Jehoahaz, king of Israel.

アマジヤのその他の始終の行爲は，ユダとイスラエルの列王の書にしるされているではないか．

アマジヤがそむいて，主に從わなくなった時から，人¿はエルサレムにおいて黨を結び，彼に敵したので，彼はラキシに逃げて行ったが，その人¿はラキシに人をやって，彼をその所で殺させた．

人¿はこれを馬に負わせて持ってきて，ユダの町でその先祖たちと共にこれを葬った．

Now the rest of the acts of Amaziah, from first to last, behold, are they not written in the Book of the Kings of Judah and Israel?

From the time that Amaziah turned away from following the LORD they conspired against him in Jerusalem, and he fled to Lachish; but they sent after him to Lachish and killed him there.

Then they brought him on horses and buried him with his fathers in the city of Judah.
