에스더

  본서는 아하수에로 왕의 통치 기간중 포로 귀환에 참여하지 않고 바사에 있던 유대 포로민들을 배경으로 에스더라는 한 지혜로운 유대 여인을 통하여 하나님께서 이스라엘 백성들을 대적자들의 위협에서 어떻게 보호하셨는가를 밝히고 있다.

  왕후 와스디가 폐위된 후, 새로운 왕후로 간택된 에스더의 사촌 모르드개는 왕의 암살 음모를 사전에 알고 왕의 생명을 구하였다. 왕의 신임을 받던 하만은 자신에게 절하지 않은 모르드개에게 분개하여 유대 민족을 멸절시킬 것을 계획한다. 이에 에스더는 목숨을 내걸고 왕께 간청하게 되고, 모르드개의 업적과 하만의 계락이 드러나 하만은 처형되고 유대인의 승리 속에 부림절 축제가 거행된다.

 

 

에스더 1:1-2:23

 아하수에로 왕의 잔치에서 왕후 와스디는 왕의 명령을 거부함으로써 폐위되었다. 그리고 새 왕후로 에스더가 간택되었다. 모르드개는 왕을 모살하려는 두 내시의 음모를 에스더를 통해 보고하였고, 그의 이름은 궁중 일기에 기록되었다.
  
  와스디의 폐위(1:1-1:22)    
 
  1. アハシュエロス すなわち インド から エチオピヤ まで 百二十七州を 治めた アハシュエロス の 世，
  2. アハシュエロス 王が 首都 スサ で， その 國の 位に 座していたころ，
  3. その 治世の 第三年に， 彼はその 大臣および 侍臣たちのために 酒宴を 設けた． ペルシャ と メデア の 將軍および 貴族ならびに 諸州の 大臣たちがその 前にいた．
  4. その 時， 王はその 盛んな 國の 富と， その 王威の 輝きと， はなやかさを 示して 多くの 日を 重ね， 百八十日に 及んだ．
  5. これらの 日が 終った 時， 王は 王の 宮殿の 園の 庭で， 首都 スサ にいる 大小のすべての 民のために 七日の 間， 酒宴を 設けた．
  1. Now it took place in the days of Ahasuerus, the Ahasuerus who reigned from India to Ethiopia over 127 provinces,
  2. in those days as King Ahasuerus sat on his royal throne which was at the citadel in Susa,
  3. in the third year of his reign he gave a banquet for all his princes and attendants, the army officers of Persia and Media, the nobles and the princes of his provinces being in his presence.
  4. And he displayed the riches of his royal glory and the splendor of his great majesty for many days, 180 days.
  5. When these days were completed, the king gave a banquet lasting seven days for all the people who were present at the citadel in Susa, from the greatest to the least, in the court of the garden of the king's palace.
  1. そこには 白綿布の 垂幕と 靑色のとばりとがあって， 紫色の 細布のひもで 銀の 輪および 大理石の 柱につながれていた． また 長いすは 金銀で 作られ， 石膏と 大理石と 眞珠貝および 寶石の 切りはめ 細工の 床の 上に 置かれていた．
  2. 酒は 金の 杯で 賜わり， その 杯はそれぞれ 違ったもので， 王の 大きな 度量にふさわしく， 王の 用いる 酒を 惜しみなく 賜わった．
  3. その 飮むことは 法にかない， だれもしいられることはなかった． これは 王が 人¿におのおの 自分の 好むようにさせよと 宮廷のすべての 役人に 命じておいたからである．
  4. 王妃 ワシテ もまた アハシュエロス 王に 屬する 王宮の 內で 女たちのために 酒宴を 設けた．
  5. 七日目に アハシュエロス 王は 酒のために 心が 樂しくなり， 王の 前に 仕える 七人の 侍從 メホマン ， ビズタ ， ハルボナ ， ビグタ ， アバグタ ， ゼタル および カルカス に 命じて，
  1. There were hangings of fine white and violet linen held by cords of fine purple linen on silver rings and marble columns, and couches of gold and silver on a mosaic pavement of porphyry, marble, mother-of-pearl and precious stones.
  2. Drinks were served in golden vessels of various kinds, and the royal wine was plentiful according to the king's bounty.
  3. The drinking was done according to the law, there was no compulsion, for so the king had given orders to each official of his household that he should do according to the desires of each person.
  4. Queen Vashti also gave a banquet for the women in the palace which belonged to King Ahasuerus.
  5. On the seventh day, when the heart of the king was merry with wine, he commanded Mehuman, Biztha, Harbona, Bigtha, Abagtha, Zethar and Carkas, the seven eunuchs who served in the presence of King Ahasuerus,
  1. 王妃 ワシテ に 王妃の 冠をかぶらせて 王の 前にこさせよと 言った． これは 彼女が 美しかったので， その 美しさを 民らと 大臣たちに 見せるためであった．
  2. ところが， 王妃 ワシテ は 侍從が 傳えた 王の 命令に 從って 來ることを 拒んだので， 王は 大いに 憤り， その 怒りが 彼の 內に 燃えた．
  3. そこで 王は 時を 知っている 知者に 言った， ――王はすべて 法律と 審判に 通じている 者に 相談するのを 常とした．
  4. 時に 王の 次にいた 人¿は ペルシャ および メデア の 七人の 大臣 カルシナ ， セタル ， アデマタ ， タルシシ ， メレス ， マルセナ ， メムカン であった． 彼らは 皆王の 顔を 見る 者で， 國の 首位に 座する 人¿であった ――
  5. 「王妃 ワシテ は， アハシュエロス 王が 侍從をもって 傳えた 命令を 行わないゆえ， 法律に 從って 彼女にどうしたらよかろうか 」．
  1. to bring Queen Vashti before the king with her royal crown in order to display her beauty to the people and the princes, for she was beautiful.
  2. But Queen Vashti refused to come at the king's command delivered by the eunuchs. Then the king became very angry and his wrath burned within him.
  3. Then the king said to the wise men who understood the times--for it was the custom of the king so to speak before all who knew law and justice
  4. and were close to him: Carshena, Shethar, Admatha, Tarshish, Meres, Marsena and Memucan, the seven princes of Persia and Media who had access to the king's presence and sat in the first place in the kingdom--
  5. "According to law, what is to be done with Queen Vashti, because she did not obey the command of King Ahasuerus delivered by the eunuchs?"
  1. メムカン は 王と 大臣たちの 前で 言った， 「王妃 ワシテ はただ 王にむかって 惡い 事をしたばかりでなく， すべての 大臣および アハシュエロス 王の 各州のすべての 民にむかってもしたのです．
  2. 王妃のこの 行いはあまねくすべての 女たちに 聞えて， 彼らはついにその 目に 夫を 卑しめ， 『アハシュエロス 王は 王妃 ワシテ に， 彼の 前に 來るように 命じたがこなかった 』と 言うでしょう．
  3. 王妃のこの 行いを 聞いた ペルシャ と メデア の 大臣の 夫人たちもまた， 今日， 王のすべての 大臣たちにこのように 言うでしょう． そうすれば 必ず 卑しめと 怒りが 多く 起ります．
  4. もし 王がよしとされるならば， ワシテ はこの 後， 再び アハシュエロス 王の 前にきてはならないという 王の 命令を 下し， これを ペルシャ と メデア の 法律の 中に 書きいれて 變ることのないようにし， そして 王妃の 位を 彼女にまさる 他の 者に 與えなさい．
  5. 王の 下される 詔がこの 大きな 國にあまねく 告げ 示されるとき， 妻たる 者はことごとく， その 夫を 高下の 別なく 共に 敬うようになるでしょう 」．
  1. In the presence of the king and the princes, Memucan said, "Queen Vashti has wronged not only the king but also all the princes and all the peoples who are in all the provinces of King Ahasuerus.
  2. "For the queen's conduct will become known to all the women causing them to look with contempt on their husbands by saying, 'King Ahasuerus commanded Queen Vashti to be brought in to his presence, but she did not come.'
  3. "This day the ladies of Persia and Media who have heard of the queen's conduct will speak in the same way to all the king's princes, and there will be plenty of contempt and anger.
  4. "If it pleases the king, let a royal edict be issued by him and let it be written in the laws of Persia and Media so that it cannot be repealed, that Vashti may no longer come into the presence of King Ahasuerus, and let the king give her royal position to another who is more worthy than she.
  5. "When the king's edict which he will make is heard throughout all his kingdom, great as it is, then all women will give honor to their husbands, great and small."
  1. 王と 大臣たちはこの 言葉をよしとしたので， 王は メムカン の 言葉のとおりに 行った．
  2. 王は 王の 諸州にあまねく 書を 送り， 各州にはその 文字にしたがい， 各民族にはその 言語にしたがって 書き 送り， すべて 男子たる 者はその 家の 主となるべきこと， また 自分の 民の 言語を 用いて 語るべきことをさとした．
  1. This word pleased the king and the princes, and the king did as Memucan proposed.
  2. So he sent letters to all the king's provinces, to each province according to its script and to every people according to their language, that every man should be the master in his own house and the one who speaks in the language of his own people.
 
  왕후로 뽑힌 에스더(2:1-2:23)    
 
  1. これらのことの 後， アハシュエロス 王の 怒りがとけ， 王は ワシテ および 彼女のしたこと， また 彼女に 對して 定めたことを 思い 起した．
  2. 時に 王に 仕える 侍臣たちは 言った， 「美しい 若い 處女たちを 王のために 尋ね 求めましょう．
  3. どうぞ 王はこの 國の 各州において 役人を 選び， 美しい 若い 處女をことごとく 首都 スサ にある 婦人の 居室に 集めさせ， 婦人をつかさどる 王の 侍從 ヘガイ の 管理のもとにおいて， 化粧のための 品¿を 彼らに 與えてください．
  4. こうして 御意にかなうおとめをとって， ワシテ の 代りに 王妃としてください 」． 王はこの 事をよしとし， そのように 行った．
  5. さて 首都 スサ にひとりの ユダヤ 人がいた． 名を モルデカイ といい， キシ のひこ， シメイ の 孫， ヤイル の 子で， ベニヤミン びとであった．
  1. After these things when the anger of King Ahasuerus had subsided, he remembered Vashti and what she had done and what had been decreed against her.
  2. Then the king's attendants, who served him, said, "Let beautiful young virgins be sought for the king.
  3. "Let the king appoint overseers in all the provinces of his kingdom that they may gather every beautiful young virgin to the citadel of Susa, to the harem, into the custody of Hegai, the king's eunuch, who is in charge of the women; and let their cosmetics be given them.
  4. "Then let the young lady who pleases the king be queen in place of Vashti." And the matter pleased the king, and he did accordingly.
  5. Now there was at the citadel in Susa a Jew whose name was Mordecai, the son of Jair, the son of Shimei, the son of Kish, a Benjamite,
  1. 彼は バビロン の 王 ネブカデネザル が 捕えていった ユダ の 王 エコニヤ と 共に 捕えられていった 捕虜のひとりで， エルサレム から 捕え 移された 者である．
  2. 彼はそのおじの 娘 ハダッサ すなわち エステル を 養い 育てた． 彼女には 父も 母もなかったからである． このおとめは 美しく， かわいらしかったが， その 父母の 死後， モルデカイ は 彼女を 引きとって 自分の 娘としたのである．
  3. 王の 命令と 詔が 傳えられ， 多くのおとめが 首都 スサ に 集められて， ヘガイ の 管理のもとにおかれたとき， エステル もまた 王宮に 携え 行かれ， 婦人をつかさどる ヘガイ の 管理のもとにおかれた．
  4. このおとめは ヘガイ の 心にかなって， そのいつくしみを 得た． すなわち ヘガイ はすみやかに 彼女に 化粧の 品¿および 食物の 分け 前を 與え， また 宮中から 七人のすぐれた 侍女を 選んで 彼女に 付き 添わせ， 彼女とその 侍女たちを 婦人の 居室のうちの 最も 良い 所に 移した．
  5. エステル は 自分の 民のことをも， 自分の 同族のことをも 人に 知らせなかった． モルデカイ がこれを 知らすなと 彼女に 命じたからである．
  1. who had been taken into exile from Jerusalem with the captives who had been exiled with Jeconiah king of Judah, whom Nebuchadnezzar the king of Babylon had exiled.
  2. He was bringing up Hadassah, that is Esther, his uncle's daughter, for she had no father or mother. Now the young lady was beautiful of form and face, and when her father and her mother died, Mordecai took her as his own daughter.
  3. So it came about when the command and decree of the king were heard and many young ladies were gathered to the citadel of Susa into the custody of Hegai, that Esther was taken to the king's palace into the custody of Hegai, who was in charge of the women.
  4. Now the young lady pleased him and found favor with him. So he quickly provided her with her cosmetics and food, gave her seven choice maids from the king's palace and transferred her and her maids to the best place in the harem.
  5. Esther did not make known her people or her kindred, for Mordecai had instructed her that she should not make them known.
  1. モルデカイ は エステル の 樣子および 彼女がどうしているかを 知ろうと， 每日婦人の 居室の 庭の 前を 步いた．
  2. おとめたちはおのおの 婦人のための 規定にしたがって 十二か 月を 經て 後， 順番に アハシュエロス 王の 所へ 行くのであった． これは 彼らの 化粧の 期間として， ¿藥の 油を 用いること 六か 月， 香料および 婦人の 化粧に 使う 品¿を 用いること 六か 月が 定められていたからである．
  3. こうしておとめは 王の 所へ 行くのであった． そしておとめが 婦人の 居室を 出て 王宮へ 行く 時には， すべてその 望む 物が 與えられた．
  4. そして 夕方行って， あくる 朝第二の 婦人の 居室に 歸り， そばめたちをつかさどる 王の 侍從 シャシガズ の 管理に 移された． 王がその 女を 喜び， 名ざして 召すのでなければ， 再び 王の 所へ 行くことはなかった．
  5. さて モルデカイ のおじ アビハイル の 娘， すなわち モルデカイ が 引きとって 自分の 娘とした エステル が 王の 所へ 行く 順番となったが， 彼女は 婦人をつかさどる 王の 侍從 ヘガイ が 勸めた 物のほか 何をも 求めなかった． エステル はすべて 彼女を 見る 者に 喜ばれた．
  1. Every day Mordecai walked back and forth in front of the court of the harem to learn how Esther was and how she fared.
  2. Now when the turn of each young lady came to go in to King Ahasuerus, after the end of her twelve months under the regulations for the women--for the days of their beautification were completed as follows: six months with oil of myrrh and six months with spices and the cosmetics for women--
  3. the young lady would go in to the king in this way: anything that she desired was given her to take with her from the harem to the king's palace.
  4. In the evening she would go in and in the morning she would return to the second harem, to the custody of Shaashgaz, the king's eunuch who was in charge of the concubines. She would not again go in to the king unless the king delighted in her and she was summoned by name.
  5. Now when the turn of Esther, the daughter of Abihail the uncle of Mordecai who had taken her as his daughter, came to go in to the king, she did not request anything except what Hegai, the king's eunuch who was in charge of the women, advised. And Esther found favor in the eyes of all who saw her.
  1. エステル が アハシュエロス 王に 召されて 王宮へ 行ったのは， その 治世の 第七年の 十月， すなわち テベテ の 月であった．
  2. 王はすべての 婦人にまさって エステル を 愛したので， 彼女はすべての 處女にまさって 王の 前に 惠みといつくしみとを 得た． 王はついに 王妃の 冠を 彼女の 頭にいただかせ， ワシテ に 代って 王妃とした．
  3. そして 王は 大いなる 酒宴を 催して， すべての 大臣と 侍臣をもてなした． エステル の 酒宴がこれである． また 諸州に 免稅を 行い， 王の 大きな 度量にしたがって 贈り 物を 與えた．
  4. 二度目に 處女たちが 集められたとき， モルデカイ は 王の 門にすわっていた．
  5. エステル は モルデカイ が 命じたように， まだ 自分の 同族のことをも 自分の 民のことをも 人に 知らせなかった． エステル は モルデカイ の 言葉に 從うこと， 彼に 養い 育てられた 時と 少しも 變らなかった．
  1. So Esther was taken to King Ahasuerus to his royal palace in the tenth month which is the month Tebeth, in the seventh year of his reign.
  2. The king loved Esther more than all the women, and she found favor and kindness with him more than all the virgins, so that he set the royal crown on her head and made her queen instead of Vashti.
  3. Then the king gave a great banquet, Esther's banquet, for all his princes and his servants; he also made a holiday for the provinces and gave gifts according to the king's bounty.
  4. When the virgins were gathered together the second time, then Mordecai was sitting at the king's gate.
  5. Esther had not yet made known her kindred or her people, even as Mordecai had commanded her; for Esther did what Mordecai told her as she had done when under his care.
  1. そのころ， モルデカイ が 王の 門にすわっていた 時， 王の 侍從で， 王のへやの 戶を 守る 者のうちの ビグタン と テレシ のふたりが 怒りのあまり アハシュエロス 王を 殺そうとねらっていたが，
  2. その 事が モルデカイ に 知れたので， 彼はこれを 王妃 エステル に 告げ， エステル はこれを モルデカイ の 名をもって 王に 告げた．
  3. その 事が 調べられて， それに 相違ないことがあらわれたので， 彼らふたりは 木にかけられた． この 事は 王の 前で 日誌の 書にかきしるされた．
  1. In those days, while Mordecai was sitting at the king's gate, Bigthan and Teresh, two of the king's officials from those who guarded the door, became angry and sought to lay hands on King Ahasuerus.
  2. But the plot became known to Mordecai and he told Queen Esther, and Esther informed the king in Mordecai's name.
  3. Now when the plot was investigated and found to be so, they were both hanged on a gallows; and it was written in the Book of the Chronicles in the king's presence.
