	창세기 18:1-19:38 부지중에 아브라함은 인간의 모습으로 나타나신 하나님을 극진히 대접했다. 하나님께서는 그에게 아들이 있을 것과 소돔의 죄악을 심판하실 것을 말씀하셨다. 아브라함은 소돔을 위해 여섯 차례에 걸친 간구 끝에 의인 열 명만 있으면 멸망받지 않도록 하였으나 소돔은 멸망당하고 말았다. 천사들의 재촉으로 롯은 가족과 함께 성을 빠져 나왔지만 그의 아내는 소금 기둥이 되었다. 그 후 롯의 두 딸은 롯과 동침하여 자손을 낳았다.

	소돔을 위한 간구(18:1-18:33)

主はマムレの ¿の木の所でアブラハムに現れた．暑い眞¿に，アブラハムは天幕の入り口に座っていた．

目を上げて見ると，三人の人が彼に向かって立っていた．アブラハムはすぐに天幕の入り口から走り出て迎え，地にひれ伏して，

言った．「お客樣，よろしければ，どうか，僕のもとを通り過ぎないでください．

水を少¿持って來させますから，足を洗って，木陰でどうぞひと休みなさってください．

何か召し上がるものを調えますので，疲れをいやしてから，お出かけください．せっかく，僕の所の近くをお通りになったのですから．」その人たちは言った．「では，お言葉どおりにしましょう．」

The LORD appeared to Abraham near the great trees of Mamre while he was sitting at the entrance to his tent in the heat of the day.

Abraham looked up and saw three men standing nearby. When he saw them, he hurried from the entrance of his tent to meet them and bowed low to the ground.

He said, "If I have found favor in your eyes, my lord, do not pass your servant by.

Let a little water be brought, and then you may all wash your feet and rest under this tree.

Let me get you something to eat, so you can be refreshed and then go on your way--now that you have come to your servant." "Very well," they answered, "do as you say."

アブラハムは急いで天幕に戾り，サラのところに來て言った．「早く，上等の小麥粉を三セアほどこねて，パン菓子をこしらえなさい．」

アブラハムは牛の群れのところへ走って行き，柔らかくておいしそうな子牛を選び，召し使いに渡し，急いで料理させた．

アブラハムは，凝乳，乳，出來立ての子牛の料理などを運び，彼らの前に ¿べた．そして，彼らが木陰で食事をしている間，そばに立って給仕をした．

彼らはアブラハムに尋ねた．「あなたの妻のサラはどこにいますか．」「はい，天幕の中におります」とアブラハムが答えると，

彼らの一人が言った．「わたしは來年の今ごろ，必ずここにまた來ますが，そのころには，あなたの妻のサラに男の子が生まれているでしょう．」サラは，すぐ後ろの天幕の入り口で聞いていた．

So Abraham hurried into the tent to Sarah. "Quick," he said, "get three seahs of fine flour and knead it and bake some bread."

Then he ran to the herd and selected a choice, tender calf and gave it to a servant, who hurried to prepare it.

He then brought some curds and milk and the calf that had been prepared, and set these before them. While they ate, he stood near them under a tree.

"Where is your wife Sarah?" they asked him. "There, in the tent," he said.

Then the LORD said, "I will surely return to you about this time next year, and Sarah your wife will have a son." Now Sarah was listening at the entrance to the tent, which was behind him.

アブラハムもサラも多くの日を重ねて老人になっており，しかもサラは月のものがとうになくなっていた．

サラはひそかに笑った．自分は年をとり，もはや樂しみがあるはずもなし，主人も年老いているのに，と思ったのである．

主はアブラハムに言われた．「なぜサラは笑ったのか．なぜ年をとった自分に子供が生まれるはずがないと思ったのだ．

主に不可能なことがあろうか．來年の今ごろ，わたしはここに戾ってくる．そのころ，サラには必ず男の子が生まれている．」

サラは恐ろしくなり，打ち消して言った．「わたしは笑いませんでした．」主は言われた．「いや，あなたは確かに笑った．」

Abraham and Sarah were already old and well advanced in years, and Sarah was past the age of childbearing.

So Sarah laughed to herself as she thought, "After I am worn out and my master is old, will I now have this pleasure?"

Then the LORD said to Abraham, "Why did Sarah laugh and say, 'Will I really have a child, now that I am old?'

Is anything too hard for the LORD ? I will return to you at the appointed time next year and Sarah will have a son."

Sarah was afraid, so she lied and said, "I did not laugh." But he said, "Yes, you did laugh."

その人たちはそこを立って，ソドムを見下ろす所まで來た．アブラハムも，彼らを見送るために一緖に行った．

主は言われた．「わたしが行おうとしていることをアブラハムに隱す必要があろうか．

アブラハムは大きな强い國民になり，世界のすべての國民は彼によって祝福に入る．

わたしがアブラハムを選んだのは，彼が息子たちとその子孫に，主の道を守り，主に從って正義を行うよう命じて，主がアブラハムに約束したことを成就するためである．」

主は言われた．「ソドムとゴモラの罪は非常に重い，と訴える叫びが實に大きい．

When the men got up to leave, they looked down toward Sodom, and Abraham walked along with them to see them on their way.

Then the LORD said, "Shall I hide from Abraham what I am about to do?

Abraham will surely become a great and powerful nation, and all nations on earth will be blessed through him.

For I have chosen him, so that he will direct his children and his household after him to keep the way of the LORD by doing what is right and just, so that the LORD will bring about for Abraham what he has promised him."

Then the LORD said, "The outcry against Sodom and Gomorrah is so great and their sin so grievous

わたしは降って行き，彼らの行跡が，果たして，わたしに屆いた叫びのとおりかどうか見て確かめよう．」

その人たちは，更にソドムの方へ向かったが，アブラハムはなお，主の御前にいた．

アブラハムは進み出て言った．「まことにあなたは，正しい者を惡い者と一緖に滅ぼされるのですか．

あの町に正しい者が五十人いるとしても，それでも滅ぼし，その五十人の正しい者のために，町をお赦しにはならないのですか．

正しい者を惡い者と一緖に殺し，正しい者を惡い者と同じ目に遭わせるようなことを，あなたがなさるはずはございません．全くありえないことです．全世界を裁くお方は，正義を行われるべきではありませんか．」

that I will go down and see if what they have done is as bad as the outcry that has reached me. If not, I will know."

The men turned away and went toward Sodom, but Abraham remained standing before the LORD.

Then Abraham approached him and said: "Will you sweep away the righteous with the wicked?

What if there are fifty righteous people in the city? Will you really sweep it away and not spare the place for the sake of the fifty righteous people in it?

Far be it from you to do such a thing--to kill the righteous with the wicked, treating the righteous and the wicked alike. Far be it from you! Will not the Judge of all the earth do right?"

主は言われた．「もしソドムの町に正しい者が五十人いるならば，その者たちのために，町全部を赦そう．」

アブラハムは答えた．「塵あくたにすぎないわたしですが，あえて，わが主に申し上げます．

もしかすると，五十人の正しい者に五人足りないかもしれません．それでもあなたは，五人足りないために，町のすべてを滅ぼされますか．」主は言われた．「もし，四十五人いれば滅ぼさない．」

アブラハムは重ねて言った．「もしかすると，四十人しかいないかもしれません．」主は言われた．「その四十人のためにわたしはそれをしない．」

アブラハムは言った．「主よ，どうかお怒りにならずに，もう少し言わせてください．もしかすると，そこには三十人しかいないかもしれません．」主は言われた．「もし三十人いるならわたしはそれをしない．」

The LORD said, "If I find fifty righteous people in the city of Sodom, I will spare the whole place for their sake."

Then Abraham spoke up again: "Now that I have been so bold as to speak to the Lord, though I am nothing but dust and ashes,

what if the number of the righteous is five less than fifty? Will you destroy the whole city because of five people?" "If I find forty-five there," he said, "I will not destroy it."

Once again he spoke to him, "What if only forty are found there?" He said, "For the sake of forty, I will not do it."

Then he said, "May the Lord not be angry, but let me speak. What if only thirty can be found there?" He answered, "I will not do it if I find thirty there."

アブラハムは言った．「あえて，わが主に申し上げます．もしかすると，二十人しかいないかもしれません．」主は言われた．「その二十人のためにわたしは滅ぼさない．」

アブラハムは言った．「主よ，どうかお怒りにならずに，もう一度だけ言わせてください．もしかすると，十人しかいないかもしれません．」主は言われた．「その十人のためにわたしは滅ぼさない．」

主はアブラハムと語り終えると，去って行かれた．アブラハムも自分の住まいに歸った．

Abraham said, "Now that I have been so bold as to speak to the Lord, what if only twenty can be found there?" He said, "For the sake of twenty, I will not destroy it."

Then he said, "May the Lord not be angry, but let me speak just once more. What if only ten can be found there?" He answered, "For the sake of ten, I will not destroy it."

When the LORD had finished speaking with Abraham, he left, and Abraham returned home.

	소돔과 고모라의 멸망(19:1-19:38)

二人の御使いが夕方ソドムに着いたとき，ロトはソドムの門の所に座っていた．ロトは彼らを見ると，立ち上がって迎え，地にひれ伏して，

言った．「皆樣方，どうぞ僕の家に立ち寄り，足を洗ってお泊まりください．そして，明日の朝早く起きて出立なさってください．」彼らは言った．「いや，結構です．わたしたちはこの廣場で夜を過ごします．」

しかし，ロトがぜひにと勸めたので，彼らはロトの所に立ち寄ることにし，彼の家を訪ねた．ロトは，酵母を入れないパンを燒いて食事を供し，彼らをもてなした．

彼らがまだ床に就かないうちに，ソドムの町の男たちが，若者も年寄りもこぞって押しかけ，家を取り圍んで，

わめきたてた．「今夜，お前のところへ來た連中はどこにいる．ここへ連れて來い．なぶりものにしてやるから．」

The two angels arrived at Sodom in the evening, and Lot was sitting in the gateway of the city. When he saw them, he got up to meet them and bowed down with his face to the ground.

"My lords," he said, "please turn aside to your servant's house. You can wash your feet and spend the night and then go on your way early in the morning." "No," they answered, "we will spend the night in the square."

But he insisted so strongly that they did go with him and entered his house. He prepared a meal for them, baking bread without yeast, and they ate.

Before they had gone to bed, all the men from every part of the city of Sodom--both young and old--surrounded the house.

They called to Lot, "Where are the men who came to you tonight? Bring them out to us so that we can have sex with them."

ロトは，戶口の前にたむろしている男たちのところへ出て行き，後ろの戶を閉めて，

言った．「どうか，皆さん，亂暴なことはしないでください．

實は，わたしにはまだ嫁がせていない娘が二人おります．皆さんにその娘たちを差し出しますから，好きなようにしてください．ただ，あの方¿には何もしないでください．この家の屋根の下に身を寄せていただいたのですから．」

男たちは口¿に言った．「そこをどけ．」「こいつは，よそ者のくせに，指圖などして．」「さあ，彼らより先に，お前を痛い目に遭わせてやる．」そして，ロトに詰め寄って體を押しつけ，戶を破ろうとした．

二人の客はそのとき，手を伸ばして，ロトを家の中に引き入れて戶を閉め，

Lot went outside to meet them and shut the door behind him

and said, "No, my friends. Don't do this wicked thing.

Look, I have two daughters who have never slept with a man. Let me bring them out to you, and you can do what you like with them. But don't do anything to these men, for they have come under the protection of my roof."

"Get out of our way," they replied. And they said, "This fellow came here as an alien, and now he wants to play the judge! We'll treat you worse than them." They kept bringing pressure on Lot and moved forward to break down the door.

But the men inside reached out and pulled Lot back into the house and shut the door.

戶口の前にいる男たちに，老若を問わず，目つぶしを食わせ，戶口を分からなくした．

二人の客はロトに言った．「ほかに，あなたの身內の人がこの町にいますか．あなたの ¿や息子や娘などを皆連れてここから逃げなさい．

實は，わたしたちはこの町を滅ぼしに來たのです．大きな叫びが主のもとに屆いたので，主は，この町を滅ぼすためにわたしたちを遣わされたのです．」

ロトは嫁いだ娘たちの ¿のところへ行き，「さあ早く，ここから逃げるのだ．主がこの町を滅ぼされるからだ」と促したが， ¿たちは冗談だと思った．

夜が明けるころ，御使いたちはロトをせきたてて言った．「さあ早く，あなたの妻とここにいる二人の娘を連れて行きなさい．さもないと，この町に下る罰の卷き添えになって滅ぼされてしまう．」

Then they struck the men who were at the door of the house, young and old, with blindness so that they could not find the door.

The two men said to Lot, "Do you have anyone else here--sons-in-law, sons or daughters, or anyone else in the city who belongs to you? Get them out of here,

because we are going to destroy this place. The outcry to the LORD against its people is so great that he has sent us to destroy it."

So Lot went out and spoke to his sons-in-law, who were pledged to marry his daughters. He said, "Hurry and get out of this place, because the LORD is about to destroy the city!" But his sons-in-law thought he was joking.

With the coming of dawn, the angels urged Lot, saying, "Hurry! Take your wife and your two daughters who are here, or you will be swept away when the city is punished."

ロトはためらっていた．主は憐れんで，二人の客にロト，妻，二人の娘の手をとらせて町の外へ避難するようにされた．

彼らがロトたちを町外れへ連れ出したとき，主は言われた．「命がけで逃れよ．後ろを振り返ってはいけない．低地のどこにもとどまるな．山へ逃げなさい．さもないと，滅びることになる．」

ロトは言った．「主よ，できません．

あなたは僕に目を留め，慈しみを豊かに示し，命を救おうとしてくださいます．しかし，わたしは山まで逃げ延びることはできません．恐らく，災害に卷き ¿まれて，死んでしまうでしょう．

御覽ください，あの町を．あそこなら近いので，逃げて行けると思います．あれは小さな町です．あそこへ逃げさせてください．あれはほんの小さな町です．どうか，そこでわたしの命を救ってください．」

When he hesitated, the men grasped his hand and the hands of his wife and of his two daughters and led them safely out of the city, for the LORD was merciful to them.

As soon as they had brought them out, one of them said, "Flee for your lives! Don't look back, and don't stop anywhere in the plain! Flee to the mountains or you will be swept away!"

But Lot said to them, "No, my lords, please!

Your servant has found favor in your eyes, and you have shown great kindness to me in sparing my life. But I can't flee to the mountains; this disaster will overtake me, and I'll die.

Look, here is a town near enough to run to, and it is small. Let me flee to it--it is very small, isn't it? Then my life will be spared."

主は言われた．「よろしい．そのこともあなたの願いを聞き屆け，あなたの言うその町は滅ぼさないことにしよう．

急いで逃げなさい．あなたがあの町に着くまでは，わたしは何も行わないから．」そこで，その町はツォアル（小さい）と名付けられた．

太陽が地上に昇ったとき，ロトはツォアルに着いた．

主はソドムとゴモラの上に天から，主のもとから硫黃の火を降らせ，

これらの町と低地一帶を，町の全住民，地の草木もろとも滅ぼした．

He said to him, "Very well, I will grant this request too; I will not overthrow the town you speak of.

But flee there quickly, because I cannot do anything until you reach it." (That is why the town was called Zoar. )

By the time Lot reached Zoar, the sun had risen over the land.

Then the LORD rained down burning sulfur on Sodom and Gomorrah--from the LORD out of the heavens.

Thus he overthrew those cities and the entire plain, including all those living in the cities--and also the vegetation in the land.

ロトの妻は後ろを振り向いたので，鹽の柱になった．

アブラハムは，その朝早く起きて，さきに主と對面した場所へ行き，

ソドムとゴモラ，および低地一帶を見下ろすと，爐の煙のように地面から煙が立ち上っていた．

こうして，ロトの住んでいた低地の町¿は滅ぼされたが，神はアブラハムを御心に留め，ロトを破滅のただ中から救い出された．

ロトはツォアルを出て，二人の娘と山の中に住んだ．ツォアルに住むのを恐れたからである．彼は洞穴に二人の娘と住んだ．

But Lot's wife looked back, and she became a pillar of salt.

Early the next morning Abraham got up and returned to the place where he had stood before the LORD.

He looked down toward Sodom and Gomorrah, toward all the land of the plain, and he saw dense smoke rising from the land, like smoke from a furnace.

So when God destroyed the cities of the plain, he remembered Abraham, and he brought Lot out of the catastrophe that overthrew the cities where Lot had lived.

Lot and his two daughters left Zoar and settled in the mountains, for he was afraid to stay in Zoar. He and his two daughters lived in a cave.

姉は妹に言った．「父も年老いてきました．この邊りには，世のしきたりに從って，わたしたちのところへ來てくれる男の人はいません．

さあ，父にぶどう酒を飮ませ，床を共にし，父から子種を受けましょう．」

娘たちはその夜，父親にぶどう酒を飮ませ，姉がまず，父親のところへ入って寢た．父親は，娘が寢に來たのも立ち去ったのも氣がつかなかった．

あくる日，姉は妹に言った．「わたしは夕べ父と寢ました．今晩も父にぶどう酒を飮ませて，あなたが行って父と床を共にし，父から子種をいただきましょう．」

娘たちはその夜もまた，父親にぶどう酒を飮ませ，妹が父親のところへ行って寢た．父親は，娘が寢に來たのも立ち去ったのも氣がつかなかった．

One day the older daughter said to the younger, "Our father is old, and there is no man around here to lie with us, as is the custom all over the earth.

Let's get our father to drink wine and then lie with him and preserve our family line through our father."

That night they got their father to drink wine, and the older daughter went in and lay with him. He was not aware of it when she lay down or when she got up.

The next day the older daughter said to the younger, "Last night I lay with my father. Let's get him to drink wine again tonight, and you go in and lie with him so we can preserve our family line through our father."

So they got their father to drink wine that night also, and the younger daughter went and lay with him. Again he was not aware of it when she lay down or when she got up.

このようにして，ロトの二人の娘は父の子を身ごもり，

やがて，姉は男の子を産み，モアブ（父親より）と名付けた．彼は今日のモアブ人の先祖である．

妹もまた男の子を産み，ベン · アミ（わたしの肉親の子）と名付けた．彼は今日のアンモンの人¿の先祖である．

So both of Lot's daughters became pregnant by their father.

The older daughter had a son, and she named him Moab ; he is the father of the Moabites of today.

The younger daughter also had a son, and she named him Ben-Ammi ; he is the father of the Ammonites of today.
