	창세기 47:1-48:22 야곱은 애굽의 고센 지역을 기업으로 받아 정착하였고, 요셉은 7년 흉년을 지혜롭게 대처하여 애굽의 모든 토지를 바로에게 돌렸다. 야곱은 요셉의 두 아들을 자신의 아들로 삼고 그들에게 축복하되 둘째 아들인 에브라임을 장자 므낫세보다 높여 주었다.

	요셉의 기근 정책(47:1-47:31)

ヨセフはファラオのところへ行き，「わたしの父と兄弟たちが，羊や牛をはじめ，すべての財産を携えて，カナン地方からやって來て，今，ゴシェンの地におります」と報告した．

そのときヨセフは，兄弟の中から五人を選んで，ファラオの前に連れて行った．

ファラオはヨセフの兄弟たちに言った．「お前たちの仕事は何か．」兄弟たちが，「あなたの僕であるわたしどもは，先祖代¿，羊飼いでございます」と答え，

更に續けてファラオに言った．「わたしどもはこの國に寄留させていただきたいと思って，參りました．カナン地方は飢鴨がひどく，僕たちの羊を飼うための牧草がありません．僕たちをゴシェンの地に住まわせてください．」

ファラオはヨセフに向かって言った．「父上と兄弟たちが，お前のところにやって來たのだ．

Joseph went and told Pharaoh, "My father and brothers, with their flocks and herds and everything they own, have come from the land of Canaan and are now in Goshen."

He chose five of his brothers and presented them before Pharaoh.

Pharaoh asked the brothers, "What is your occupation?" "Your servants are shepherds," they replied to Pharaoh, "just as our fathers were."

They also said to him, "We have come to live here awhile, because the famine is severe in Canaan and your servants' flocks have no pasture. So now, please let your servants settle in Goshen."

Pharaoh said to Joseph, "Your father and your brothers have come to you,

エジプトの國のことはお前に任せてあるのだから，最も良い土地に父上と兄弟たちを住まわせるがよい．ゴシェンの地に住まわせるのもよかろう．もし，一族の中に有能な者がいるなら，わたしの家畜の監督をさせるがよい．」

それから，ヨセフは父ヤコブを連れて來て，ファラオの前に立たせた．ヤコブはファラオに祝福の言葉を述べた．

ファラオが，「あなたは何歲におなりですか」とヤコブに語りかけると，

ヤコブはファラオに答えた．「わたしの旅路の年月は百三十年です．わたしの生涯の年月は短く，苦しみ多く，わたしの先祖たちの生涯や旅路の年月には及びません．」

ヤコブは，別れの ¿¿をして，ファラオの前から退出した．

and the land of Egypt is before you; settle your father and your brothers in the best part of the land. Let them live in Goshen. And if you know of any among them with special ability, put them in charge of my own livestock."

Then Joseph brought his father Jacob in and presented him before Pharaoh. After Jacob blessed Pharaoh,

Pharaoh asked him, "How old are you?"

And Jacob said to Pharaoh, "The years of my pilgrimage are a hundred and thirty. My years have been few and difficult, and they do not equal the years of the pilgrimage of my fathers."

Then Jacob blessed Pharaoh and went out from his presence.

ヨセフはファラオが命じたように，父と兄弟たちの住まいを定め，エジプトの國に所有地を與えた．そこは，ラメセス地方の最も良い土地であった．

ヨセフはまた，父と兄弟たちと父の家族の者すべてを養い，扶養すべき者の數に從って食糧を與えた．

飢鴨が極めて激しく，世界中に食糧がなくなった．エジプトの國でも，カナン地方でも，人¿は飢鴨のために苦しみあえいだ．

So Joseph settled his father and his brothers in Egypt and gave them property in the best part of the land, the district of Rameses, as Pharaoh directed.

Joseph also provided his father and his brothers and all his father's household with food, according to the number of their children.

There was no food, however, in the whole region because the famine was severe; both Egypt and Canaan wasted away because of the famine.

Joseph collected all the money that was to be found in Egypt and Canaan in payment for the grain they were buying, and he brought it to Pharaoh's palace.

When the money of the people of Egypt and Canaan was gone, all Egypt came to Joseph and said, "Give us food. Why should we die before your eyes? Our money is used up."

ヨセフは答えた．「家畜を連れて來なさい．もし銀がなくなったのなら，家畜と引き換えに與えよう．」

人¿が家畜をヨセフのところに連れて來ると，ヨセフは，馬や，羊や牛の群れや，ろばと引き換えに食糧を與えた．ヨセフはこうして，その年，すべての家畜と引き換えに人¿に食糧を分け與えた．

どうしてあなたさまの前で，わたしどもと農地が滅んでしまってよいでしょうか．食糧と引き換えに，わたしどもと土地を買い上げてください．わたしどもは農地とともに，ファラオの奴隷になります．種をお與えください．そうすれば，わたしどもは死なずに生きることができ，農地も荒れ果てないでしょう．」

ヨセフは，エジプト中のすべての農地をファラオのために買い上げた．飢鴨が激しくなったので，エジプト人は皆自分の畑を賣ったからである．土地はこうして，ファラオのものとなった．

"Then bring your livestock," said Joseph. "I will sell you food in exchange for your livestock, since your money is gone."

So they brought their livestock to Joseph, and he gave them food in exchange for their horses, their sheep and goats, their cattle and donkeys. And he brought them through that year with food in exchange for all their livestock.

When that year was over, they came to him the following year and said, "We cannot hide from our lord the fact that since our money is gone and our livestock belongs to you, there is nothing left for our lord except our bodies and our land.

Why should we perish before your eyes--we and our land as well? Buy us and our land in exchange for food, and we with our land will be in bondage to Pharaoh. Give us seed so that we may live and not die, and that the land may not become desolate."

So Joseph bought all the land in Egypt for Pharaoh. The Egyptians, one and all, sold their fields, because the famine was too severe for them. The land became Pharaoh's,

また民については，エジプト領の端から端まで，ヨセフが彼らを奴隷にした．

ただし，祭司の農地だけは買い上げなかった．祭司にはファラオからの給與があって，ファラオが與える給與で生活していたので，農地を賣らなかったからである．

and Joseph reduced the people to servitude, from one end of Egypt to the other.

However, he did not buy the land of the priests, because they received a regular allotment from Pharaoh and had food enough from the allotment Pharaoh gave them. That is why they did not sell their land.

Joseph said to the people, "Now that I have bought you and your land today for Pharaoh, here is seed for you so you can plant the ground.

But when the crop comes in, give a fifth of it to Pharaoh. The other four-fifths you may keep as seed for the fields and as food for yourselves and your households and your children."

"You have saved our lives," they said. "May we find favor in the eyes of our lord; we will be in bondage to Pharaoh."

ヨセフはこのように，收穫の五分の一をファラオに納めることを，エジプトの農業の定めとした．それは今日まで續いている．ただし，祭司の農地だけはファラオのものにならなかった．

イスラエルは，エジプトの國，ゴシェンの地域に住み，そこに土地を得て，子を産み，大いに數を增した．

ヤコブは，エジプトの國で十七年生きた．ヤコブの生涯は百四十七年であった．

わたしが先祖たちと共に眠りについたなら，わたしをエジプトから運び出して，先祖たちの墓に葬ってほしい．」ヨセフが，「必ず，おっしゃるとおりにいたします」と答えると，

So Joseph established it as a law concerning land in Egypt--still in force today--that a fifth of the produce belongs to Pharaoh. It was only the land of the priests that did not become Pharaoh's.

Now the Israelites settled in Egypt in the region of Goshen. They acquired property there and were fruitful and increased greatly in number.

Jacob lived in Egypt seventeen years, and the years of his life were a hundred and forty-seven.

When the time drew near for Israel to die, he called for his son Joseph and said to him, "If I have found favor in your eyes, put your hand under my thigh and promise that you will show me kindness and faithfulness. Do not bury me in Egypt,

but when I rest with my fathers, carry me out of Egypt and bury me where they are buried." "I will do as you say," he said.

「では，誓ってくれ」と言ったので，ヨセフは誓った．イスラエルは，寢台の枕もとで感謝を表した．

"Swear to me," he said. Then Joseph swore to him, and Israel worshiped as he leaned on the top of his staff.

Some time later Joseph was told, "Your father is ill." So he took his two sons Manasseh and Ephraim along with him.

When Jacob was told, "Your son Joseph has come to you," Israel rallied his strength and sat up on the bed.

Jacob said to Joseph, "God Almighty appeared to me at Luz in the land of Canaan, and there he blessed me

and said to me, 'I am going to make you fruitful and will increase your numbers. I will make you a community of peoples, and I will give this land as an everlasting possession to your descendants after you.'

"Now then, your two sons born to you in Egypt before I came to you here will be reckoned as mine; Ephraim and Manasseh will be mine, just as Reuben and Simeon are mine.

その後に生まれる者はお前のものとしてよい．しかし，彼らの嗣業の土地は兄たちの名で呼ばれるであろう．

わたしはパダンから歸る途中，ラケルに死なれてしまった．あれはカナン地方で，エフラトまで行くには，まだかなりの道のりがある途中でのことだった．わたしはラケルを，エフラト，つまり今のベツレヘムへ向かう道のほとりに葬った．」

イスラエルは，ヨセフの息子たちを見ながら，「これは誰か」と尋ねた．

ヨセフが父に，「神が，ここで授けてくださったわたしの息子です」と答えると，父は，「ここへ連れて來なさい．彼らを祝福しよう」と言った．

イスラエルの目は老齡のためかすんでよく見えなかったので，ヨセフが二人の息子を父のもとに近寄らせると，父は彼らに口づけをして抱き締めた．

Any children born to you after them will be yours; in the territory they inherit they will be reckoned under the names of their brothers.

As I was returning from Paddan, to my sorrow Rachel died in the land of Canaan while we were still on the way, a little distance from Ephrath. So I buried her there beside the road to Ephrath" (that is, Bethlehem).

When Israel saw the sons of Joseph, he asked, "Who are these?"

"They are the sons God has given me here," Joseph said to his father. Then Israel said, "Bring them to me so I may bless them."

Now Israel's eyes were failing because of old age, and he could hardly see. So Joseph brought his sons close to him, and his father kissed them and embraced them.

イスラエルはヨセフに言った．「お前の顔さえ見ることができようとは思わなかったのに，なんと，神はお前の子供たちをも見させてくださった．」

ヨセフは彼らを父の膝から離し，地にひれ伏して拜した．

ヨセフは二人の息子のうち，エフライムを自分の右手でイスラエルの左手に向かわせ，マナセを自分の左手でイスラエルの右手に向かわせ，二人を近寄らせた．

イスラエルは右手を伸ばして，弟であるエフライムの頭の上に置き，左手をマナセの頭の上に置いた．つまり，マナセが長男であるのに，彼は兩手を交差して置いたのである．

そして，ヨセフを祝福して言った．「わたしの先祖アブラハムとイサクが／その御前に步んだ神よ．わたしの生涯を今日まで／導かれた牧者なる神よ．

Israel said to Joseph, "I never expected to see your face again, and now God has allowed me to see your children too."

Then Joseph removed them from Israel's knees and bowed down with his face to the ground.

And Joseph took both of them, Ephraim on his right toward Israel's left hand and Manasseh on his left toward Israel's right hand, and brought them close to him.

But Israel reached out his right hand and put it on Ephraim's head, though he was the younger, and crossing his arms, he put his left hand on Manasseh's head, even though Manasseh was the firstborn.

Then he blessed Joseph and said, "May the God before whom my fathers Abraham and Isaac walked, the God who has been my shepherd all my life to this day,

わたしをあらゆる苦しみから／·われた御使いよ．どうか，この子供たちの上に／祝福をお與えください．どうか，わたしの名と／わたしの先祖アブラハム，イサクの名が／彼らによって覺えられますように．どうか，彼らがこの地上に／數多く增え續けますように．」

ヨセフは，父が右手をエフライムの頭の上に置いているのを見て，不滿に思い，父の手を取ってエフライムの頭からマナセの頭へ移そうとした．

ヨセフは父に言った．「父上，そうではありません．これが長男ですから，右手をこれの頭の上に置いてください．」

ところが，父はそれを拒んで言った．「いや，分かっている．わたしの子よ，わたしには分かっている．この子も一つの民となり，大きくなるであろう．しかし，弟の方が彼よりも大きくなり，その子孫は國¿に滿ちるものとなる．」

その日，父は彼らを祝福して言った．「あなたによって／イスラエルは人を祝福して言うであろう．『どうか，神があなたを／エフライムとマナセのように／してくださるように．』」彼はこのように，エフライムをマナセの上に立てたのである．

the Angel who has delivered me from all harm --may he bless these boys. May they be called by my name and the names of my fathers Abraham and Isaac, and may they increase greatly upon the earth."

When Joseph saw his father placing his right hand on Ephraim's head he was displeased; so he took hold of his father's hand to move it from Ephraim's head to Manasseh's head.

Joseph said to him, "No, my father, this one is the firstborn; put your right hand on his head."

But his father refused and said, "I know, my son, I know. He too will become a people, and he too will become great. Nevertheless, his younger brother will be greater than he, and his descendants will become a group of nations."

He blessed them that day and said, "In your name will Israel pronounce this blessing: 'May God make you like Ephraim and Manasseh.' " So he put Ephraim ahead of Manasseh.

イスラエルはヨセフに言った．「間もなく，わたしは死ぬ．だが，神がお前たちと共にいてくださり，きっとお前たちを先祖の國に導き歸らせてくださる．

わたしは，お前に兄弟たちよりも多く，わたしが劍と弓をもってアモリ人の手から取った一つの分け前（シェケム）を與えることにする．」

Then Israel said to Joseph, "I am about to die, but God will be with you and take you back to the land of your fathers.

And to you, as one who is over your brothers, I give the ridge of land I took from the Amorites with my sword and my bow."
