- And now, brothers, we want you to know about the grace that God has given the Macedonian churches.
- Out of the most severe trial, their overflowing joy and their extreme poverty welled up in rich generosity.
- For I testify that they gave as much as they were able, and even beyond their ability. Entirely on their own,
- they urgently pleaded with us for the privilege of sharing in this service to the saints.
- And they did not do as we expected, but they gave themselves first to the Lord and then to us in keeping with God's will.

- わたしたちは テトス に， この 慈善の 業をあなたがたの 間で 始めたからには， やり 遂げるようにと 勸めました．
- あなたがたは 信仰， 言葉， 知識， あらゆる 熱心， わたしたちから 受ける 愛など， すべての 点で 豊かなのですから， この 慈善の 業においても 豊かな 者となりなさい．
- わたしは 命令としてこう 言っているのではありません． 他の 人¿の 熱心に 照らしてあなたがたの 愛の 純粹さを 確かめようとして 言うのです．
- あなたがたは， わたしたちの 主 イエス · キリスト の 惠みを 知っています． すなわち， 主は 豊かであったのに， あなたがたのために 貧しくなられた． それは， 主の 貧しさによって， あなたがたが 豊かになるためだったのです．

- 他の 人¿には 樂をさせて， あなたがたに 苦勞をかけるということではなく， 釣り 合いがとれるようにするわけです．
- あなたがたの 現在のゆとりが 彼らの 欠乏を 補えば， いつか 彼らのゆとりもあなたがたの 欠乏を 補うことになり， こうして 釣り 合いがとれるのです．
- 「多く 集めた 者も， 余ることはなく， ／わずかしか 集めなかった 者も， ／不足することはなかった 」と 書いてあるとおりです．

- Now finish the work, so that your eager willingness to do it may be matched by your completion of it, according to your means.
- For if the willingness is there, the gift is acceptable according to what one has, not according to what he does not have.
- Our desire is not that others might be relieved while you are hard pressed, but that there might be equality.
