- イエス は 十二人の 弟子に 指圖を 與え 終わると， そこを 去り， 方¿の 町で 敎え， 宣敎された．
- ヨハネ は 牢の 中で， キリスト のなさったことを 聞いた． そこで， 自分の 弟子たちを 送って，
- 尋ねさせた． 「來るべき 方は， あなたでしょうか． それとも， ほかの 方を 待たなければなりませんか． 」
- イエス はお 答えになった． 「行って， 見聞きしていることを ヨハネ に 傳えなさい．
- 目の 見えない 人は 見え， 足の 不自由な 人は 步き， らい 病を 患っている 人は 淸くなり， 耳の 聞こえない 人は 聞こえ， 死者は 生き 返り， 貧しい 人は 福音を 告げ 知らされている．

- And it came to pass, when Jesus had made an end of commanding his twelve disciples, he departed thence to teach and to preach in their cities.
- Now when John had heard in the prison the works of Christ, he sent two of his disciples,
- And said unto him, Art thou he that should come, or do we look for another?
- Jesus answered and said unto them, Go and shew John again those things which ye do hear and see:
- The blind receive their sight, and the lame walk, the lepers are cleansed, and the deaf hear, the dead are raised up, and the poor have the gospel preached to them.

- わたしにつまずかない 人は 幸いである． 」
- ヨハネ の 弟子たちが 歸ると， イエス は 群衆に ヨハネ について 話し 始められた． 「あなたがたは， 何を 見に 荒れ 野へ 行ったのか． 風にそよぐ 葦か．
- では， 何を 見に 行ったのか． しなやかな 服を 着た 人か． しなやかな 服を 着た 人なら 王宮にいる．
- では， 何を 見に 行ったのか． 預言者か． そうだ． 言っておく． 預言者以上の 者である．
- 『見よ， わたしはあなたより 先に 使者を 遣わし， ／あなたの 前に 道を 準備させよう 』／と 書いてあるのは， この 人のことだ．

- And blessed is he, whosoever shall not be offended in me.
- And as they departed, Jesus began to say unto the multitudes concerning John, What went ye out into the wilderness to see? A reed shaken with the wind?
- But what went ye out for to see? A man clothed in soft raiment? behold, they that wear soft clothing are in kings' houses.
- But what went ye out for to see? A prophet? yea, I say unto you, and more than a prophet.
- For this is he, of whom it is written, Behold, I send my messenger before thy face, which shall prepare thy way before thee.

- はっきり 言っておく． およそ 女から 生まれた 者のうち， 洗禮者 ヨハネ より 偉大な 者は 現れなかった． しかし， 天の 國で 最も 小さな 者でも， 彼よりは 偉大である．
- 彼が 活動し 始めたときから 今に 至るまで， 天の 國は 力ずくで 襲われており， 激しく 襲う 者がそれを 奪い 取ろうとしている．
- すべての 預言者と 律法が 預言したのは， ヨハネ の 時までである．
- あなたがたが 認めようとすれば 分かることだが， 實は， 彼は 現れるはずの エリヤ である．
- 耳のある 者は 聞きなさい．

- Verily I say unto you, Among them that are born of women there hath not risen a greater than John the Baptist: notwithstanding he that is least in the kingdom of heaven is greater than he.
- And from the days of John the Baptist until now the kingdom of heaven suffereth violence, and the violent take it by force.
- For all the prophets and the law prophesied until John.
- And if ye will receive it, this is Elias, which was for to come.
- He that hath ears to hear, let him hear.

- 今の 時代を 何にたとえたらよいか． 廣場に 座って， ほかの 者にこう 呼びかけている 子供たちに 似ている．
- 『笛を 吹いたのに， ／踊ってくれなかった． 葬式の 歌をうたったのに， ／悲しんでくれなかった． 』
- ヨハネ が 來て， 食べも 飮みもしないでいると， 『あれは 惡靈に 取りつかれている 』と 言い，
- 人の 子が 來て， 飮み 食いすると， 『見ろ， 大食漢で 大酒飮みだ． 徵稅人や 罪人の 仲間だ 』と 言う． しかし， 知惠の 正しさは， その ¿きによって 證明される． 」
- それから イエス は， 數多くの 奇跡の 行われた 町¿が 悔い 改めなかったので， 叱り 始められた．

- But whereunto shall I liken this generation? It is like unto children sitting in the markets, and calling unto their fellows,
- And saying, We have piped unto you, and ye have not danced; we have mourned unto you, and ye have not lamented.
- For John came neither eating nor drinking, and they say, He hath a devil.
- The Son of man came eating and drinking, and they say, Behold a man gluttonous, and a winebibber, a friend of publicans and sinners. But wisdom is justified of her children.
- Then began he to upbraid the cities wherein most of his mighty works were done, because they repented not:

- 「コラジン ， お 前は 不幸だ． ベトサイダ ， お 前は 不幸だ． お 前たちのところで 行われた 奇跡が， ティルス や シドン で 行われていれば， これらの 町はとうの 昔に 粗布をまとい， 灰をかぶって 悔い 改めたにちがいない．
- しかし， 言っておく． 裁きの 日には ティルス や シドン の 方が， お 前たちよりまだ 輕い 罰で 濟む．
- また， カファルナウム ， お 前は， ／天にまで 上げられるとでも 思っているのか． 陰府にまで 落とされるのだ． お 前のところでなされた 奇跡が， ソドム で 行われていれば， あの 町は 今日まで 無事だったにちがいない．
- しかし， 言っておく． 裁きの 日には ソドム の 地の 方が， お 前よりまだ 輕い 罰で 濟むのである． 」

- Woe unto thee, Chorazin! woe unto thee, Bethsaida! for if the mighty works, which were done in you, had been done in Tyre and Sidon, they would have repented long ago in sackcloth and ashes.
- But I say unto you, It shall be more tolerable for Tyre and Sidon at the day of judgment, than for you.
- And thou, Capernaum, which art exalted unto heaven, shalt be brought down to hell: for if the mighty works, which have been done in thee, had been done in Sodom, it would have remained until this day.
- But I say unto you, That it shall be more tolerable for the land of Sodom in the day of judgment, than for thee.
