- ところで， 祭りの 度ごとに， 總督は 民衆の 希望する 囚人を 一人釋放することにしていた．
- そのころ， バラバ · イエス という 評判の 囚人がいた．
- ピラト は， 人¿が 集まって 來たときに 言った． 「どちらを 釋放してほしいのか． バラバ · イエス か． それとも メシア といわれる イエス か． 」
- 人¿が イエス を 引き 渡したのは， ねたみのためだと 分かっていたからである．
- 一方， ピラト が 裁判の 席に 着いているときに， 妻から 傳言があった． 「あの 正しい 人に 關係しないでください． その 人のことで， わたしは 昨夜， 夢で 隨分苦しめられました． 」

- Now at that feast the governor was wont to release unto the people a prisoner, whom they would.
- And they had then a notable prisoner, called Barabbas.
- Therefore when they were gathered together, Pilate said unto them, Whom will ye that I release unto you? Barabbas, or Jesus which is called Christ?
- For he knew that for envy they had delivered him.
- When he was set down on the judgment seat, his wife sent unto him, saying, Have thou nothing to do with that just man: for I have suffered many things this day in a dream because of him.

- しかし， 祭司長たちや 長老たちは， バラバ を 釋放して， イエス を 死刑に 處してもらうようにと 群衆を 說得した．
- そこで， 總督が， 「二人のうち， どちらを 釋放してほしいのか 」と 言うと， 人¿は， 「バラバ を 」と 言った．
- ピラト が， 「では， メシア といわれている イエス の 方は， どうしたらよいか 」と 言うと， 皆は， 「十字架につけろ 」と 言った．
- ピラト は， 「いったいどんな 惡事を ¿いたというのか 」と 言ったが， 群衆はますます 激しく， 「十字架につけろ 」と 叫び 續けた．
- ピラト は， それ 以上言っても 無馱なばかりか， かえって ¿動が 起こりそうなのを 見て， 水を 持って 來させ， 群衆の 前で 手を 洗って 言った． 「この 人の 血について， わたしには 責任がない． お 前たちの 問題だ． 」

- But the chief priests and elders persuaded the multitude that they should ask Barabbas, and destroy Jesus.
- The governor answered and said unto them, Whether of the twain will ye that I release unto you? They said, Barabbas.
- Pilate saith unto them, What shall I do then with Jesus which is called Christ? They all say unto him, Let him be crucified.
- And the governor said, Why, what evil hath he done? But they cried out the more, saying, Let him be crucified.
- When Pilate saw that he could prevail nothing, but that rather a tumult was made, he took water, and washed his hands before the multitude, saying, I am innocent of the blood of this just person: see ye to it.

- 民はこぞって 答えた． 「その 血の 責任は， 我¿と 子孫にある． 」
- そこで， ピラト は バラバ を 釋放し， イエス を 鞭打ってから， 十字架につけるために 引き 渡した．
- それから， 總督の 兵士たちは， イエス を 總督官邸に 連れて 行き， 部隊の 全員を イエス の 周りに 集めた．
- そして， イエス の 着ている 物をはぎ 取り， 赤い 外套を 着せ，
- 茨で 冠を 編んで 頭に 載せ， また， 右手に 葦の 棒を 持たせて， その 前にひざまずき， 「ユダヤ 人の 王， 万歲 」と 言って， 侮辱した．

- Then answered all the people, and said, His blood be on us, and on our children.
- Then released he Barabbas unto them: and when he had scourged Jesus, he delivered him to be crucified.
- Then the soldiers of the governor took Jesus into the common hall, and gathered unto him the whole band of soldiers.
- And they stripped him, and put on him a scarlet robe.
- And when they had platted a crown of thorns, they put it upon his head, and a reed in his right hand: and they bowed the knee before him, and mocked him, saying, Hail, King of the Jews!

- また， 唾を 吐きかけ， 葦の 棒を 取り 上げて 頭をたたき 續けた．
- このように イエス を 侮辱したあげく， 外套を 脫がせて 元の 服を 着せ， 十字架につけるために 引いて 行った．

- And they spit upon him, and took the reed, and smote him on the head.
- And after that they had mocked him, they took the robe off from him, and put his own raiment on him, and led him away to crucify him.
