- ある 議員が イエス に， 「善い 先生， 何をすれば 永遠の 命を 受け 繼ぐことができるでしょうか 」と 尋ねた．
- イエス は 言われた． 「なぜ， わたしを『善い 』と 言うのか． 神おひとりのほかに， 善い 者はだれもいない．
- 『姦淫するな， 殺すな， 盜むな， 僞證するな， 父母を 敬え 』という ¿をあなたは 知っているはずだ． 」
- すると 議員は， 「そういうことはみな， 子供の 時から 守ってきました 」と 言った．
- これを 聞いて， イエス は 言われた． 「あなたに 欠けているものがまだ 一つある． 持っている 物をすべて 賣り 拂い， 貧しい 人¿に 分けてやりなさい． そうすれば， 天に 富を 積むことになる． それから， わたしに 從いなさい． 」

- And a certain ruler asked him, saying, Good Master, what shall I do to inherit eternal life?
- And Jesus said unto him, Why callest thou me good? none is good, save one, that is, God.
- Thou knowest the commandments, Do not commit adultery, Do not kill, Do not steal, Do not bear false witness, Honour thy father and thy mother.
- And he said, All these have I kept from my youth up.
- Now when Jesus heard these things, he said unto him, Yet lackest thou one thing: sell all that thou hast, and distribute unto the poor, and thou shalt have treasure in heaven: and come, follow me.

- しかし， その 人はこれを 聞いて 非常に 悲しんだ． 大變な 金持ちだったからである．
- イエス は， 議員が 非常に 悲しむのを 見て， 言われた． 「財産のある 者が 神の 國に 入るのは， なんと 難しいことか．
- 金持ちが 神の 國に 入るよりも， らくだが 針の 穴を 通る 方がまだ 易しい． 」
- これを 聞いた 人¿が， 「それでは， だれが 救われるのだろうか 」と 言うと，
- イエス は， 「人間にはできないことも， 神にはできる 」と 言われた．

- And when he heard this, he was very sorrowful: for he was very rich.
- And when Jesus saw that he was very sorrowful, he said, How hardly shall they that have riches enter into the kingdom of God!
- For it is easier for a camel to go through a needle's eye, than for a rich man to enter into the kingdom of God.
- And they that heard it said, Who then can be saved?
- And he said, The things which are impossible with men are possible with God.

- すると ペトロ が， 「このとおり， わたしたちは 自分の 物を 捨ててあなたに 從って 參りました 」と 言った．
- イエス は 言われた． 「はっきり 言っておく． 神の 國のために， 家， 妻， 兄弟， 兩親， 子供を 捨てた 者はだれでも，
- この 世ではその 何倍もの 報いを 受け， 後の 世では 永遠の 命を 受ける． 」

- Then Peter said, Lo, we have left all, and followed thee.
- And he said unto them, Verily I say unto you, There is no man that hath left house, or parents, or brethren, or wife, or children, for the kingdom of God's sake,
- Who shall not receive manifold more in this present time, and in the world to come life everlasting.
