- さて， 過越祭の 前のことである． イエス は， この 世から 父のもとへ 移る 御自分の 時が 來たことを 悟り， 世にいる 弟子たちを 愛して， この 上なく 愛し 拔かれた．
- 夕食のときであった． 旣に 惡魔は， イスカリオテ の シモン の 子 ユダ に， イエス を 裏切る 考えを 抱かせていた．
- イエス は， 父がすべてを 御自分の 手にゆだねられたこと， また， 御自分が 神のもとから 來て， 神のもとに 歸ろうとしていることを 悟り，
- 食事の 席から 立ち 上がって 上着を 脫ぎ， 手ぬぐいを 取って 腰にまとわれた．
- それから， たらいに 水をくんで 弟子たちの 足を 洗い， 腰にまとった 手ぬぐいでふき 始められた．

- Now before the feast of the passover, when Jesus knew that his hour was come that he should depart out of this world unto the Father, having loved his own which were in the world, he loved them unto the end.
- And supper being ended, the devil having now put into the heart of Judas Iscariot, Simon's son, to betray him;
- Jesus knowing that the Father had given all things into his hands, and that he was come from God, and went to God;
- He riseth from supper, and laid aside his garments; and took a towel, and girded himself.
- After that he poureth water into a bason, and began to wash the disciples' feet, and to wipe them with the towel wherewith he was girded.

- シモン · ペトロ のところに 來ると， ペトロ は， 「主よ， あなたがわたしの 足を 洗ってくださるのですか 」と 言った．
- イエス は 答えて， 「わたしのしていることは， 今あなたには 分かるまいが， 後で， 分かるようになる 」と 言われた．
- ペトロ が， 「わたしの 足など， 決して 洗わないでください 」と 言うと， イエス は， 「もしわたしがあなたを 洗わないなら， あなたはわたしと 何のかかわりもないことになる 」と 答えられた．
- そこで シモン · ペトロ が 言った． 「主よ， 足だけでなく， 手も 頭も． 」
- イエス は 言われた． 「旣に 體を 洗った 者は， 全身淸いのだから， 足だけ 洗えばよい． あなたがたは 淸いのだが， 皆が 淸いわけではない． 」

- Then cometh he to Simon Peter: and Peter saith unto him, Lord, dost thou wash my feet?
- Jesus answered and said unto him, What I do thou knowest not now; but thou shalt know hereafter.
- Peter saith unto him, Thou shalt never wash my feet. Jesus answered him, If I wash thee not, thou hast no part with me.
- Simon Peter saith unto him, Lord, not my feet only, but also my hands and my head.
- Jesus saith to him, He that is washed needeth not save to wash his feet, but is clean every whit: and ye are clean, but not all.

- イエス は， 御自分を 裏切ろうとしている 者がだれであるかを 知っておられた． それで， 「皆が 淸いわけではない 」と 言われたのである．
- さて， イエス は， 弟子たちの 足を 洗ってしまうと， 上着を 着て， 再び 席に 着いて 言われた． 「わたしがあなたがたにしたことが 分かるか．
- あなたがたは， わたしを『先生 』とか『主 』とか 呼ぶ． そのように 言うのは 正しい． わたしはそうである．
- ところで， 主であり， 師であるわたしがあなたがたの 足を 洗ったのだから， あなたがたも 互いに 足を 洗い 合わなければならない．
- わたしがあなたがたにしたとおりに， あなたがたもするようにと， 模範を 示したのである．

- For he knew who should betray him; therefore said he, Ye are not all clean.
- So after he had washed their feet, and had taken his garments, and was set down again, he said unto them, Know ye what I have done to you?
- Ye call me Master and Lord: and ye say well; for so I am.
- If I then, your Lord and Master, have washed your feet; ye also ought to wash one another's feet.
- For I have given you an example, that ye should do as I have done to you.

- はっきり 言っておく． 僕は 主人にまさらず， 遣わされた 者は 遣わした 者にまさりはしない．
- このことが 分かり， そのとおりに 實行するなら， 幸いである．
- わたしは， あなたがた 皆について， こう 言っているのではない． わたしは， どのような 人¿を 選び 出したか 分かっている． しかし， 『わたしの パン を 食べている 者が， わたしに 逆らった 』という 聖書の 言葉は 實現しなければならない．
- 事の 起こる 前に， 今， 言っておく． 事が 起こったとき， 『わたしはある 』ということを， あなたがたが 信じるようになるためである．
- はっきり 言っておく． わたしの 遣わす 者を 受け 入れる 人は， わたしを 受け 入れ， わたしを 受け 入れる 人は， わたしをお 遣わしになった 方を 受け 入れるのである． 」

- Verily, verily, I say unto you, The servant is not greater than his lord; neither he that is sent greater than he that sent him.
- If ye know these things, happy are ye if ye do them.
- I speak not of you all: I know whom I have chosen: but that the scripture may be fulfilled, He that eateth bread with me hath lifted up his heel against me.
- Now I tell you before it come, that, when it is come to pass, ye may believe that I am he.
- Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that receiveth whomsoever I send receiveth me; and he that receiveth me receiveth him that sent me.
