- ダビデ は 彼に 從う 兵を 調べ， 千人隊の 長と 百人隊の 長を 任命した．
- 次いで ダビデ は 兵士を 三部隊に 分け， 三分の 一を ヨアブ の 指揮下に， 三分の 一を ツェルヤ の 子， ヨアブ の 弟 アビシャイ の 指揮下に， 三分の 一を ガト 人 イタイ の 指揮下においた． ダビデ 王は 兵士に 言った． 「わたしもお 前たちと 共に 出陣する． 」
- 兵士は 言った． 「出陣なさってはいけません． 我¿が 逃げ 出したとしても 彼らは 氣にも 留めないでしょうし， 我¿の 半數が 戰死しても 氣にも 留めないでしょう． しかしあなたは 我¿の 一万人にも 等しい 方です． 今は 町にとどまり， 町から 我¿を 助けてくださる 方がよいのです． 」
- 「わたしはお 前たちの 目に 良いと 映ることをしよう 」と 王は 言って， 町の 城門の 傍らに 立ち， 兵士は 皆， 百人隊， 千人隊となって 出て 行った．
- 王は ヨアブ ， アビシャイ ， イタイ に 命じた． 「若者 アブサロム を 手荒には 扱わないでくれ． 」兵士は 皆， アブサロム について 王が 將軍たち 全員に 命じるのを 聞いていた．

- And David numbered the people that were with him, and set captains of thousands, and captains of hundreds over them.
- And David sent forth a third part of the people under the hand of Joab, and a third part under the hand of Abishai the son of Zeruiah, Joab's brother, and a third part under the hand of Ittai the Gittite. And the king said unto the people, I will surely go forth with you myself also.
- But the people answered, Thou shalt not go forth: for if we flee away, they will not care for us; neither if half of us die, will they care for us: but now thou art worth ten thousand of us: therefore now it is better that thou succour us out of the city.
- And the king said unto them, What seemeth you best I will do. And the king stood by the gate side, and all the people came out by hundreds and by thousands.
- And the king commanded Joab and Abishai and Ittai, saying, Deal gently for my sake with the young man, even with Absalom. And all the people heard when the king gave all the captains charge concerning Absalom.

- 兵士たちは イスラエル 軍と 戰うために 野に 出て 行った． 戰いは エフライム の 森で 起こり，
- イスラエル 軍はそこで ダビデ の 家臣に 敗れた． 大敗北で， その 日， 二万人を 失った．
- 戰いはその 地の 全面に 廣がり， その 日密林の 餌食になった 者は 劍が 餌食にした 者よりも 多かった．

- So the people went out into the field against Israel: and the battle was in the wood of Ephraim;
- Where the people of Israel were slain before the servants of David, and there was there a great slaughter that day of twenty thousand men.
- For the battle was there scattered over the face of all the country: and the wood devoured more people that day than the sword devoured.
- And Absalom met the servants of David. And Absalom rode upon a mule, and the mule went under the thick boughs of a great oak, and his head caught hold of the oak, and he was taken up between the heaven and the earth; and the mule that was under him went away.
- And a certain man saw it, and told Joab, and said, Behold, I saw Absalom hanged in an oak.

- ヨアブ は 知らせに 來た 者に 言った． 「見たなら， なぜその 場で 地に 打ち 落とさなかったのか． 銀十枚と 革帶一本を 與えただろうに． 」
- その 兵は ヨアブ に 言った． 「たとえこの 手のひらに 銀千枚の 重みを 感じるとしても， 王子をこの 手にかけたりはしません． 王があなたと アビシャイ ， イタイ に， 若者 アブサロム を 守れ， と 命じられたのを 我¿は 耳にしました．
- 假に， わたしが 彼の 命を 奪ってそれを 僞ろうとしても， 王には 何一つ 隱せません． あなたもわたしを 非とする 側に 立つでしょう． 」
- 「それなら， お 前に 期待はしない 」と ヨアブ は 言った． アブサロム は ¿の 木にひっかかったまま， まだ 生きていた． ヨアブ は 棒を 三本手に 取り， アブサロム の 心臟に 突き 刺した．
- ヨアブ の 武器を 持つ 從卒十人が 取り 圍んで アブサロム を 打ち， とどめを 刺した．

- And Joab said unto the man that told him, And, behold, thou sawest him, and why didst thou not smite him there to the ground? and I would have given thee ten shekels of silver, and a girdle.
- And the man said unto Joab, Though I should receive a thousand shekels of silver in mine hand, yet would I not put forth mine hand against the king's son: for in our hearing the king charged thee and Abishai and Ittai, saying, Beware that none touch the young man Absalom.
- Otherwise I should have wrought falsehood against mine own life: for there is no matter hid from the king, and thou thyself wouldest have set thyself against me.
- Then said Joab, I may not tarry thus with thee. And he took three darts in his hand, and thrust them through the heart of Absalom, while he was yet alive in the midst of the oak.
- And ten young men that bare Joab's armour compassed about and smote Absalom, and slew him.

- ヨアブ は 角笛を 吹いて 兵士を 引き 止めたので， 彼らは イスラエル 軍の 追跡をやめて 戾って 來た．

- アブサロム は 生前， 王の 谷に 自分のための 石柱を 立てていた． 跡繼ぎの 息子がなく， 名が 絶えると 思ったからで， この 石柱に 自分の 名を 付けていた． 今日も アブサロム の 碑と 呼ばれている．
- ツァドク の 子 アヒマアツ は 言った． 「走って 行って， 主が 王を 敵の 手から 救ってくださったという 良い 知らせを 王に 傳えます． 」
- ヨアブ は 彼に， 「今日， お 前が 知らせるのはよくない． 日を 改めて 報告するがよい． 今日は 知らせないでおこう． 王の 息子が 死んだのだ 」と 言い，

- And Joab blew the trumpet, and the people returned from pursuing after Israel: for Joab held back the people.
- And they took Absalom, and cast him into a great pit in the wood, and laid a very great heap of stones upon him: and all Israel fled every one to his tent.
- Now Absalom in his lifetime had taken and reared up for himself a pillar, which is in the king's dale: for he said, I have no son to keep my name in remembrance: and he called the pillar after his own name: and it is called unto this day, Absalom's place.
- Then said Ahimaaz the son of Zadok, Let me now run, and bear the king tidings, how that the LORD hath avenged him of his enemies.
- And Joab said unto him, Thou shalt not bear tidings this day, but thou shalt bear tidings another day: but this day thou shalt bear no tidings, because the king's son is dead.

- クシュ 人に 命じた． 「行って， お 前が 見たとおりに 王に 報告せよ． 」 クシュ 人は ヨアブ に 一禮して 走り 去った．
- ツァドク の 子 アヒマアツ は 再び ヨアブ に， 「どんなことになろうと， わたしも クシュ 人を 追って 走りたいのです 」と 願った． 「子よ， お 前はどうしてそんなに 走りたいのだ． お 前が 行って 知らせるほどの 良い 知らせではない 」と ヨアブ は 言ったが，
- どんなことになろうと 行きたいと 言うので， ヨアブ は「走るがよい 」と 答えた． アヒマアツ は 低地に 道をとり， クシュ 人を 追い 越した．
- ダビデ は 二つの 城門の 間に 座っていた． 城壁に 沿った 城門の 屋根には， 見張りが 上って 目を 上げ， 男がただ 一人走って 來るのを 見た．
- 見張りは 王に 呼びかけて 知らせた． 王は， 「一人だけならば 良い 知らせをもたらすだろう 」と 言った． その 男が 近づいて 來たとき，

- Then said Joab to Cushi, Go tell the king what thou hast seen. And Cushi bowed himself unto Joab, and ran.
- Then said Ahimaaz the son of Zadok yet again to Joab, But howsoever, let me, I pray thee, also run after Cushi. And Joab said, Wherefore wilt thou run, my son, seeing that thou hast no tidings ready?
- But howsoever, said he, let me run. And he said unto him, Run. Then Ahimaaz ran by the way of the plain, and overran Cushi.
- And David sat between the two gates: and the watchman went up to the roof over the gate unto the wall, and lifted up his eyes, and looked, and behold a man running alone.
- And the watchman cried, and told the king. And the king said, If he be alone, there is tidings in his mouth. And he came apace, and drew near.

- 見張りはもう 一人の 男が 走って 來るのに 氣がつき， 門衛に 呼びかけて 言った． 「また 一人で 走って 來る 者がいます． 」王は， 「これもまた 良い 知らせだ 」と 言った．
- 見張りは， 「最初の 人の 走り 方は ツァドク の 子 アヒマアツ の 走り 方のように 見えます 」と 言った． 王は， 「良い 男だ． 良い 知らせなので 來たのだろう 」と 言った．
- アヒマアツ は「王に 平和 」と 叫び， 地にひれ 伏して 禮をし， 言った． 「あなたの 神， 主はほめたたえられますように． 主は 主君， 王に 手を 上げる 者どもを 引き 渡してくださいまし ㅳ棹 ㅧ
- 王が， 「若者 アブサロム は 無事か 」と 尋ねると， アヒマアツ は 答えた． 「ヨアブ が， 王樣の 僕とこの 僕とを 遣わそうとしたとき， 大¿ぎが 起こっているのを 見ましたが， 何も 知りません． 」
- 王が， 「脇に 寄って， 立っていなさい 」と 命じたので， アヒマアツ は 脇に 寄り， そこに 立った．

- And the watchman saw another man running: and the watchman called unto the porter, and said, Behold another man running alone. And the king said, He also bringeth tidings.
- And the watchman said, Me thinketh the running of the foremost is like the running of Ahimaaz the son of Zadok. And the king said, He is a good man, and cometh with good tidings.
- And Ahimaaz called, and said unto the king, All is well. And he fell down to the earth upon his face before the king, and said, Blessed be the LORD thy God, which hath delivered up the men that lifted up their hand against my lord the king.
- And the king said, Is the young man Absalom safe? And Ahimaaz answered, When Joab sent the king's servant, and me thy servant, I saw a great tumult, but I knew not what it was.
- And the king said unto him, Turn aside, and stand here. And he turned aside, and stood still.

- そこへ クシュ 人が 到着した． 彼は 言った． 「主君， 王よ， 良い 知らせをお 聞きください． 主は， 今日あなたに 逆らって 立った 者どもの 手からあなたを 救ってくださいました． 」
- 王は クシュ 人に， 「若者 アブサロム は 無事か 」と 尋ねた． クシュ 人は 答えた． 「主君， 王の 敵， あなたに 危害を 與えようと 逆らって 立った 者はことごとく， あの 若者のようになりますように． 」

- And, behold, Cushi came; and Cushi said, Tidings, my lord the king: for the LORD hath avenged thee this day of all them that rose up against thee.
- And the king said unto Cushi, Is the young man Absalom safe? And Cushi answered, The enemies of my lord the king, and all that rise against thee to do thee hurt, be as that young man is.
- And the king was much moved, and went up to the chamber over the gate, and wept: and as he went, thus he said, O my son Absalom, my son, my son Absalom! would God I had died for thee, O Absalom, my son, my son!
