- そのころ， 弟子の 數が 增えてきて， ギリシア 語を 話す ユダヤ 人から， ヘブライ 語を 話す ユダヤ 人に 對して 苦情が 出た． それは， 日¿の 分配のことで， 仲間のやもめたちが 輕んじられていたからである．
- そこで， 十二人は 弟子をすべて 呼び 集めて 言った． 「わたしたちが， 神の 言葉をないがしろにして， 食事の 世話をするのは 好ましくない．
- それで， 兄弟たち， あなたがたの 中から， “靈 ＂と 知惠に 滿ちた 評判の 良い 人を 七人選びなさい． 彼らにその 仕事を 任せよう．
- わたしたちは， 祈りと 御言葉の 奉仕に 專念することにします． 」
- 一同はこの 提案に 贊成し， 信仰と 聖靈に 滿ちている 人 ステファノ と， ほかに フィリポ ， プロコロ ， ニカノル ， ティモン ， パルメナ ， アンティオキア 出身の 改宗者 ニコラオ を 選んで，

- And in those days, when the number of the disciples was multiplied, there arose a murmuring of the Grecians against the Hebrews, because their widows were neglected in the daily ministration.
- Then the twelve called the multitude of the disciples unto them, and said, It is not reason that we should leave the word of God, and serve tables.
- Wherefore, brethren, look ye out among you seven men of honest report, full of the Holy Ghost and wisdom, whom we may appoint over this business.
- But we will give ourselves continually to prayer, and to the ministry of the word.
- And the saying pleased the whole multitude: and they chose Stephen, a man full of faith and of the Holy Ghost, and Philip, and Prochorus, and Nicanor, and Timon, and Parmenas, and Nicolas a proselyte of Antioch:

- 使徒たちの 前に 立たせた． 使徒たちは， 祈って 彼らの 上に 手を 置いた．
- こうして， 神の 言葉はますます 廣まり， 弟子の 數は エルサレム で 非常に 增えていき， 祭司も 大勢この 信仰に 入った．
- さて， ステファノ は 惠みと 力に 滿ち， すばらしい 不思議な 業としるしを 民衆の 間で 行っていた．
- ところが， キレネ と アレクサンドリア の 出身者で， いわゆる「解放された 奴隷の 會堂 」に 屬する 人¿， また キリキア 州と アジア 州出身の 人¿などのある 者たちが 立ち 上がり， ステファノ と 議論した．
- しかし， 彼が 知惠と “靈 ＂とによって 語るので， 齒が 立たなかった．

- Whom they set before the apostles: and when they had prayed, they laid their hands on them.
- And the word of God increased; and the number of the disciples multiplied in Jerusalem greatly; and a great company of the priests were obedient to the faith.
- And Stephen, full of faith and power, did great wonders and miracles among the people.
- Then there arose certain of the synagogue, which is called the synagogue of the Libertines, and Cyrenians, and Alexandrians, and of them of Cilicia and of Asia, disputing with Stephen.
- And they were not able to resist the wisdom and the spirit by which he spake.

- そこで， 彼らは 人¿を 唆して， 「わたしたちは， あの 男が モ ― セ と 神を 冒瀆する 言葉を 吐くのを 聞いた 」と 言わせた．
- また， 民衆， 長老たち， 律法學者たちを 扇動して， ステファノ を 襲って 捕らえ， 最高法院に 引いて 行った．
- そして， 僞證人を 立てて， 次のように 訴えさせた． 「この 男は， この 聖なる 場所と 律法をけなして， 一向にやめようとしません．
- わたしたちは， 彼がこう 言っているのを 聞いています． 『あの ナザレ の 人 イエス は， この 場所を 破壞し， モ ― セ が 我¿に 傳えた 慣習を 變えるだろう． 』」
- 最高法院の 席に 着いていた 者は 皆， ステファノ に 注目したが， その 顔はさながら 天使の 顔のように 見えた．

- Then they suborned men, which said, We have heard him speak blasphemous words against Moses, and against God.
- And they stirred up the people, and the elders, and the scribes, and came upon him, and caught him, and brought him to the council,
- And set up false witnesses, which said, This man ceaseth not to speak blasphemous words against this holy place, and the law:
- For we have heard him say, that this Jesus of Nazareth shall destroy this place, and shall change the customs which Moses delivered us.
- And all that sat in the council, looking stedfastly on him, saw his face as it had been the face of an angel.
