- わたしたちが ロ ― マ に 入ったとき， パウロ は 番兵を 一人つけられたが， 自分だけで 住むことを 許された．
- 三日の 後， パウロ はおもだった ユダヤ 人たちを 招いた． 彼らが 集まって 來たとき， こう 言った． 「兄弟たち， わたしは， 民に 對しても 先祖の 慣習に 對しても， 背くようなことは 何一つしていないのに， エルサレム で 囚人として ロ ― マ 人の 手に 引き 渡されてしまいました．
- ロ ― マ 人はわたしを 取り 調べたのですが， 死刑に 相當する 理由が 何も 無かったので， 釋放しようと 思ったのです．
- しかし， ユダヤ 人たちが 反對したので， わたしは 皇帝に 上訴せざるをえませんでした． これは， 決して 同胞を 告發するためではありません．
- だからこそ， お 會いして 話し 合いたいと， あなたがたにお 願いしたのです． イスラエル が 希望していることのために， わたしはこのように 鎖でつながれているのです． 」

- And when we came to Rome, the centurion delivered the prisoners to the captain of the guard: but Paul was suffered to dwell by himself with a soldier that kept him.
- And it came to pass, that after three days Paul called the chief of the Jews together: and when they were come together, he said unto them, Men and brethren, though I have committed nothing against the people, or customs of our fathers, yet was I delivered prisoner from Jerusalem into the hands of the Romans.
- Who, when they had examined me, would have let me go, because there was no cause of death in me.
- But when the Jews spake against it, I was constrained to appeal unto Caesar; not that I had ought to accuse my nation of.
- For this cause therefore have I called for you, to see you, and to speak with you: because that for the hope of Israel I am bound with this chain.

- すると， ユダヤ 人たちが 言った． 「私どもは， あなたのことについて ユダヤ から 何の 書面も 受け 取ってはおりませんし， また， ここに 來た 兄弟のだれ 一人として， あなたについて 何か 惡いことを 報告したことも， 話したこともありませんでした．
- あなたの 考えておられることを， 直接お 聞きしたい． この 分派については， 至るところで 反對があることを 耳にしているのです． 」
- そこで， ユダヤ 人たちは 日を 決めて， 大勢で パウロ の 宿舍にやって 來た． パウロ は， 朝から 晩まで 說明を 續けた． 神の 國について 力强く 證しし， モ ― セ の 律法や 預言者の 書を 引用して， イエス について 說得しようとしたのである．
- ある 者は パウロ の 言うことを 受け 入れたが， 他の 者は 信じようとはしなかった．
- 彼らが 互いに 意見が 一致しないまま， 立ち 去ろうとしたとき， パウロ はひと 言次のように 言った． 「聖靈は， 預言者 イザヤ を 通して， 實に 正しくあなたがたの 先祖に，

- And they said unto him, We neither received letters out of Judaea concerning thee, neither any of the brethren that came shewed or spake any harm of thee.
- But we desire to hear of thee what thou thinkest: for as concerning this sect, we know that every where it is spoken against.
- And when they had appointed him a day, there came many to him into his lodging; to whom he expounded and testified the kingdom of God, persuading them concerning Jesus, both out of the law of Moses, and out of the prophets, from morning till evening.
- And some believed the things which were spoken, and some believed not.
- And when they agreed not among themselves, they departed, after that Paul had spoken one word, Well spake the Holy Ghost by Esaias the prophet unto our fathers,

- 語られました． 『この 民のところへ 行って 言え． あなたたちは 聞くには 聞くが， 決して 理解せず， ／見るには 見るが， 決して 認めない．
- この 民の 心は 鈍り， ／耳は 遠くなり， ／目は 閉じてしまった． こうして， 彼らは 目で 見ることなく， ／耳で 聞くことなく， ／心で 理解せず， 立ち 歸らない． わたしは 彼らをいやさない． 』
- だから， このことを 知っていただきたい． この 神の 救いは 異邦人に 向けられました． 彼らこそ， これに 聞き 從うのです． 」
- ＊ パウロ がこのようなことを 語ったところ， ユダヤ 人たちは 大いに 論じ 合いながら 歸って 行った．
- パウロ は， 自費で 借りた 家に 丸二年間住んで， 訪問する 者はだれかれとなく 歡迎し，

- Saying, Go unto this people, and say, Hearing ye shall hear, and shall not understand; and seeing ye shall see, and not perceive:
- For the heart of this people is waxed gross, and their ears are dull of hearing, and their eyes have they closed; lest they should see with their eyes, and hear with their ears, and understand with their heart, and should be converted, and I should heal them.
- Be it known therefore unto you, that the salvation of God is sent unto the Gentiles, and that they will hear it.
- And when he had said these words, the Jews departed, and had great reasoning among themselves.
- And Paul dwelt two whole years in his own hired house, and received all that came in unto him,

- 全く 自由に 何の 妨げもなく， 神の 國を 宣べ 傳え， 主 イエス · キリスト について 敎え 續けた．

- Preaching the kingdom of God, and teaching those things which concern the Lord Jesus Christ, with all confidence, no man forbidding him.
