- このような 事があって 後， 長たちがわたしのもとに 來て， 言った． 「イスラエル の 民も， 祭司も， レビ 人も， この 地の 住民から 離れようとはしません． カナン 人， ヘト 人， ペリジ 人， エブス 人， アンモン 人， モアブ 人， エジプト 人， アモリ 人と 同樣に 行うその 住民の 忌まわしい 行いに 從って，
- 彼らは， 自分のためにも 息子たちのためにもこの 地の 住民の 娘を 嫁にし， 聖なる 種族はこの 地の 住民と 混じり 合うようになりました． しかも， 長たる 者， 官職にある 者がこの 惡事にまず 手を 染めたのです． 」
- わたしはこのことを 聞いて， 衣と マント を 裂き， 髮の 毛とひげをむしり， ぼう 然として 座り ¿んだ．
- また， この 捕囚の 民の 惡事に 對する イスラエル の 神の 裁きの 言葉を 恐れる 者は 皆， わたしのもとに 集まって 來たが， 夕べの 獻げ 物のときまで， わたしはぼう 然として 座り 續けた．
- 夕べの 獻げ 物のときになって， かがめていた 身を 起こし， 裂けた 衣と マント をつけたままひざまずき， わが 神， 主に 向かって 手を 廣げ，

- Now when these things were done, the princes came to me, saying, The people of Israel, and the priests, and the Levites, have not separated themselves from the people of the lands, doing according to their abominations, even of the Canaanites, the Hittites, the Perizzites, the Jebusites, the Ammonites, the Moabites, the Egyptians, and the Amorites.
- For they have taken of their daughters for themselves, and for their sons: so that the holy seed have mingled themselves with the people of those lands: yea, the hand of the princes and rulers hath been chief in this trespass.
- And when I heard this thing, I rent my garment and my mantle, and plucked off the hair of my head and of my beard, and sat down astonied.
- Then were assembled unto me every one that trembled at the words of the God of Israel, because of the transgression of those that had been carried away; and I sat astonied until the evening sacrifice.
- And at the evening sacrifice I arose up from my heaviness; and having rent my garment and my mantle, I fell upon my knees, and spread out my hands unto the LORD my God,

- 祈り 始めた． 「わが 神よ， 御前に 恥じ 入るあまり， わたしは 顔を 上げることができません． わたしたちの 罪惡は 積み 重なって 身の 丈を 越え， 罪科は 大きく 天にまで 達しています．
- 先祖の 時代から 今日まで， わたしたちは 大きな 罪科の 中にあります． その 罪惡のために， わたしたちは 王も 祭司もこの 地の 王の 支配下に 置かれ， 劍にかけられ， 捕らわれ 人となり， 略奪され， 辱められてきました． 今日， 御覽のとおりです．
- ところが 今， ほんの 少し 前から， わたしたちの 神， 主の 憐れみにより， わたしたちの 幾人かが 捕囚を 免れて 生き 殘り， あなたの 聖なる 所によりどころを 得るようにされました． こうして， わたしたちの 神はわたしたちの 目に 光を 與え， 奴隷の 身にありながらも， わずかに 生きる 力を 授けてくださいました．
- まことに， わたしたちは 奴隷にされています． しかし， わたしたちの 神はわたしたちを 奴隷のまま 捨て 去ることなく， ペルシア の 諸王がわたしたちに 對して 好意を 抱くようにし， 生きる 力を 與えてくださいました． こうして， ユダ と エルサレム でわたしたちの 神の 神殿を 再建し， 廢虛を 復興し， 城壁を 得るようにしてくださいました．
- わたしたちの 神よ， こうした 御恩をいただきながら， 今何を 申し 上げればよいのでしょうか． わたしたちは 御命令に 背いてしまったのです．

- And said, O my God, I am ashamed and blush to lift up my face to thee, my God: for our iniquities are increased over our head, and our trespass is grown up unto the heavens.
- Since the days of our fathers have we been in a great trespass unto this day; and for our iniquities have we, our kings, and our priests, been delivered into the hand of the kings of the lands, to the sword, to captivity, and to a spoil, and to confusion of face, as it is this day.
- And now for a little space grace hath been shewed from the LORD our God, to leave us a remnant to escape, and to give us a nail in his holy place, that our God may lighten our eyes, and give us a little reviving in our bondage.
- For we were bondmen; yet our God hath not forsaken us in our bondage, but hath extended mercy unto us in the sight of the kings of Persia, to give us a reviving, to set up the house of our God, and to repair the desolations thereof, and to give us a wall in Judah and in Jerusalem.
- And now, O our God, what shall we say after this? for we have forsaken thy commandments,

- 御命令は， あなたの 僕， 預言者たちによってこう 傳えられました． 『これから 入って 所有する 地は， その 地の 住民の 汚れによって 汚された 地である． そこは， その 端から 端まで 彼らの 忌まわしい 行いによって 汚れに 滿たされている．
- それゆえ， あなたたちの 娘を 彼らの 息子に 嫁がせたり， 彼らの 娘をあなたたちの 息子の 嫁にしたりしてはならない． あなたたちが 强くなり， この 地の 良い 實を 食べ， それを 永久に 子孫の 所有とすることを 望むならば， 彼らと 同盟を 結ぼうとしてはならない． また， それによる 繁榮を 決して 求めてはならない 』と．
- わたしたちは， 數¿の 大きな 惡事と 罪科のゆえに 受くべき ·難をすべて 受けましたが， わたしたちの 神， あなたはわたしたちの 重い 罪惡をもそう 重く 見ず， わたしたちをこのように 生き 殘らせてくださいました． この 後で，
- またしても 御命令を 破り， その 忌まわしい 民と 緣組みをすることができましょうか． お 怒りになって， わたしたちを 一人殘らず 滅ぼし 盡くされても 當然です．
- イスラエル の 神， 主よ， あなたは 惠み 深いお 方です． だからこそ， わたしたちは 今日も 生き 殘りとしてここにいるのです． 御覽ください． このような 有樣で 御前に 立ちえないのですが， 罪深い 者として， 御前にぬかずいております． 」

- Which thou hast commanded by thy servants the prophets, saying, The land, unto which ye go to possess it, is an unclean land with the filthiness of the people of the lands, with their abominations, which have filled it from one end to another with their uncleanness.
- Now therefore give not your daughters unto their sons, neither take their daughters unto your sons, nor seek their peace or their wealth for ever: that ye may be strong, and eat the good of the land, and leave it for an inheritance to your children for ever.
- And after all that is come upon us for our evil deeds, and for our great trespass, seeing that thou our God hast punished us less than our iniquities deserve, and hast given us such deliverance as this;
- Should we again break thy commandments, and join in affinity with the people of these abominations? wouldest not thou be angry with us till thou hadst consumed us, so that there should be no remnant nor escaping?
- O LORD God of Israel, thou art righteous: for we remain yet escaped, as it is this day: behold, we are before thee in our trespasses: for we cannot stand before thee because of this.
