- わたしは， だれに 對しても 自由な 者ですが， すべての 人の 奴隷になりました． できるだけ 多くの 人を 得るためです．
- ユダヤ 人に 對しては， ユダヤ 人のようになりました． ユダヤ 人を 得るためです． 律法に 支配されている 人に 對しては， わたし 自身はそうではないのですが， 律法に 支配されている 人のようになりました． 律法に 支配されている 人を 得るためです．
- また， わたしは 神の 律法を 持っていないわけではなく， キリスト の 律法に 從っているのですが， 律法を 持たない 人に 對しては， 律法を 持たない 人のようになりました． 律法を 持たない 人を 得るためです．
- 弱い 人に 對しては， 弱い 人のようになりました． 弱い 人を 得るためです． すべての 人に 對してすべてのものになりました． 何とかして 何人かでも 救うためです．
- 福音のためなら， わたしはどんなことでもします． それは， わたしが 福音に 共にあずかる 者となるためです．

- For though I be free from all men, yet have I made myself servant unto all, that I might gain the more.
- And unto the Jews I became as a Jew, that I might gain the Jews; to them that are under the law, as under the law, that I might gain them that are under the law;
- To them that are without law, as without law, (being not without law to God, but under the law to Christ,) that I might gain them that are without law.
- To the weak became I as weak, that I might gain the weak: I am made all things to all men, that I might by all means save some.
- And this I do for the gospel's sake, that I might be partaker thereof with you.

- あなたがたは 知らないのですか． 競技場で 走る 者は 皆走るけれども， 賞を 受けるのは 一人だけです． あなたがたも 賞を 得るように 走りなさい．
- 競技をする 人は 皆， すべてに 節制します． 彼らは 朽ちる 冠を 得るためにそうするのですが， わたしたちは， 朽ちない 冠を 得るために 節制するのです．
- だから， わたしとしては， やみくもに 走ったりしないし， 空を 打つような 拳鬪もしません．
- むしろ， 自分の 體を 打ちたたいて 服從させます． それは， 他の 人¿に 宣敎しておきながら， 自分の 方が 失格者になってしまわないためです．

- Know ye not that they which run in a race run all, but one receiveth the prize? So run, that ye may obtain.
- And every man that striveth for the mastery is temperate in all things. Now they do it to obtain a corruptible crown; but we an incorruptible.
- I therefore so run, not as uncertainly; so fight I, not as one that beateth the air:
- But I keep under my body, and bring it into subjection: lest that by any means, when I have preached to others, I myself should be a castaway.
