- その 日， モ ― セ の 書が 民に 讀み 聞かされ， アンモン 人と モアブ 人は 神の 會衆に 永久に 加われないと 記されているのが 分かった．
- かつて 彼らは， パン と 水をもって イスラエル 人を 迎えず， バラム を 雇って イスラエル 人を 呪わせようとしたからである． わたしたちの 神は， その 呪いを 祝福に 變えてくださった．
- 人¿はこの 敎えを 聞くと， 混血の 者を 皆， イスラエル から 切り 離した．
- これに 先立って， トビヤ に 緣のある 祭司 エルヤシブ は， 神殿の 祭司室を 任されていたが，
- かつて 人¿が 穀物の 獻げ 物と 香と 祭具， また レビ 人と 詠唱者と 門衛のための， 規定による 十分の 一の 穀物と 新しいぶどう 酒と 油， 更に 祭司のための 禮物を 納めることになっていたその 大きな 祭司室を トビヤ のために 流用した．

- On that day they read in the book of Moses in the audience of the people; and therein was found written, that the Ammonite and the Moabite should not come into the congregation of God for ever;
- Because they met not the children of Israel with bread and with water, but hired Balaam against them, that he should curse them: howbeit our God turned the curse into a blessing.
- Now it came to pass, when they had heard the law, that they separated from Israel all the mixed multitude.
- And before this, Eliashib the priest, having the oversight of the chamber of the house of our God, was allied unto Tobiah:
- And he had prepared for him a great chamber, where aforetime they laid the meat offerings, the frankincense, and the vessels, and the tithes of the corn, the new wine, and the oil, which was commanded to be given to the Levites, and the singers, and the porters; and the offerings of the priests.

- その 時わたしは エルサレム にいなかった． バビロン の 王 アルタクセルクセス の 第三十二年にわたしは 王のもとに 行っていたからである． やがて 王の 許しを 得て，
- エルサレム に 歸り， エルヤシブ が トビヤ のために 神殿の 庭にある 收納庫を 流用して， そのために 行った 惡事を 知った．
- わたしは 非常に 憤り， その 祭司室から トビヤ 家の 器具類をすべて 外に 投げ 出し，
- その 祭司室を 淸め， そこに 再び 神殿の 祭具と 穀物の 獻げ 物と 香を 納めることを 命じた．
- またわたしは， レビ 人に 與えられるはずのものが 與えられず， 務めに 就いていた レビ 人と 詠唱者が， それぞれ 自分の 耕地に 逃げ 歸っているのを 知った．

- But in all this time was not I at Jerusalem: for in the two and thirtieth year of Artaxerxes king of Babylon came I unto the king, and after certain days obtained I leave of the king:
- And I came to Jerusalem, and understood of the evil that Eliashib did for Tobiah, in preparing him a chamber in the courts of the house of God.
- And it grieved me sore: therefore I cast forth all the household stuff to Tobiah out of the chamber.
- Then I commanded, and they cleansed the chambers: and thither brought I again the vessels of the house of God, with the meat offering and the frankincense.
- And I perceived that the portions of the Levites had not been given them: for the Levites and the singers, that did the work, were fled every one to his field.

- わたしは 役人を 責め， なぜ 神殿を 見捨てられたままにしておくのかと 言った． わたしは レビ 人と 詠唱者を 集め， 務めに 就かせた．
- こうして ユダ の 人¿が 皆， 十分の 一の 穀物と 新しいぶどう 酒と 油を 貯藏室に 持って 來た．
- わたしは， 祭司 シェレムヤ ， 書記官 ツァドク ， レビ 人 ペダヤ に 貯藏室の 管理を 命じ， マタンヤ の 孫で ザクル の 子， ハナン を 彼らの 助手とした． 彼らは 忠實な 人物とされており， 仲間に 分配する 任務が 彼らにゆだねられた．
- わたしの 神よ， それゆえわたしを 心に 留め， 神殿とその 務めのために 示した， わたしの 眞心を 消し 去らないでください．
- またそのころ， ユダ で， 人¿が 安息日に 桶の 中でぶどうを 踏み， 穀物の 束をろばに 負わせて 運んでいるのを， わたしは 見た． また， ぶどう 酒， ぶどうの 實， いちじく， その 他あらゆる 種類の 荷物も 同じようにして， 安息日に エルサレム に 運び 入れていた． そこで， 彼らが 食品を 賣っているその 日に， わたしは 彼らを 戒めた．

- Then contended I with the rulers, and said, Why is the house of God forsaken? And I gathered them together, and set them in their place.
- Then brought all Judah the tithe of the corn and the new wine and the oil unto the treasuries.
- And I made treasurers over the treasuries, Shelemiah the priest, and Zadok the scribe, and of the Levites, Pedaiah: and next to them was Hanan the son of Zaccur, the son of Mattaniah: for they were counted faithful, and their office was to distribute unto their brethren.
- Remember me, O my God, concerning this, and wipe not out my good deeds that I have done for the house of my God, and for the offices thereof.
- In those days saw I in Judah some treading wine presses on the sabbath, and bringing in sheaves, and lading asses; as also wine, grapes, and figs, and all manner of burdens, which they brought into Jerusalem on the sabbath day: and I testified against them in the day wherein they sold victuals.

- ティルス 人もそこに 住み 着き， 魚をはじめあらゆる 種類の 商品を 持ち ¿み， 安息日に， しかも エルサレム で， ユダ の 人¿に 賣っていた．
- わたしは ユダ の 貴族を 責め， こう 言った． 「なんという 惡事を ¿いているのか． 安息日を 汚しているではないか．
- あなたたちの 先祖がそのようにしたからこそ， 神はわたしたちとこの 都の 上に， あれほどの 不幸をもたらされたのではなかったか． あなたたちは 安息日を 汚すことによって， またしても イスラエル に 對する 神の 怒りを 招こうとしている． 」
- そこで， 安息日の 始まる 前に， エルサレム の 城門の 邊りが 暗くなってくると， わたしはその 扉を 閉じるように 命じ， 安息日が 過ぎるまでそれを 開けないように 言いつけた． そしてわたしの 部下をその 門の 前に 立たせ， 安息日には 荷物が 決して 運び ¿まれないようにした．
- そのため， 取り 引きする 人やあらゆるものを 賣る 人が， エルサレム の 外で 夜を 過ごすことも 一度ならずあった．

- There dwelt men of Tyre also therein, which brought fish, and all manner of ware, and sold on the sabbath unto the children of Judah, and in Jerusalem.
- Then I contended with the nobles of Judah, and said unto them, What evil thing is this that ye do, and profane the sabbath day?
- Did not your fathers thus, and did not our God bring all this evil upon us, and upon this city? yet ye bring more wrath upon Israel by profaning the sabbath.
- And it came to pass, that when the gates of Jerusalem began to be dark before the sabbath, I commanded that the gates should be shut, and charged that they should not be opened till after the sabbath: and some of my servants set I at the gates, that there should no burden be brought in on the sabbath day.
- So the merchants and sellers of all kind of ware lodged without Jerusalem once or twice.

- わたしは 彼らを 戒めて， 「なぜ 城壁の 前で 夜を 過ごすのか． 繰り 返すならば， お 前たちを 處罰する 」と 言った． そのとき 以來， 彼らは 安息日には 來なくなった．
- またわたしは レビ 人に， 身を 淸めて 門を 守り， 安息日を 聖とするように 命じた． わたしの 神よ， このことについてもわたしを 心に 留め， あなたの 大いなる 慈しみによって， わたしを 憐れんでください．
- またそのころ， ユダ の 人¿が アシュドド 人や アンモン 人や モアブ 人の 女と 結婚していることが， わたしに 分かった．
- その 子供たちの 半數は， アシュドド の 言葉あるいはそれぞれの 民族の 言葉を 話し， ユダ の 言葉を 知らなかった．
- わたしは 彼らを 責め， 呪い， 幾人かを 打ち， その 毛を 引き 拔き， 神にかけて 誓わせた． 「お 前たちの 娘を 彼らの 息子の 妻にしてはならない． 彼らの 娘をお 前たちの 息子の 妻に， またはお 前たちの 妻にしてはならない．

- Then I testified against them, and said unto them, Why lodge ye about the wall? if ye do so again, I will lay hands on you. From that time forth came they no more on the sabbath.
- And I commanded the Levites that they should cleanse themselves, and that they should come and keep the gates, to sanctify the sabbath day. Remember me, O my God, concerning this also, and spare me according to the greatness of thy mercy.
- In those days also saw I Jews that had married wives of Ashdod, of Ammon, and of Moab:
- And their children spake half in the speech of Ashdod, and could not speak in the Jews' language, but according to the language of each people.
- And I contended with them, and cursed them, and smote certain of them, and plucked off their hair, and made them swear by God, saying, Ye shall not give your daughters unto their sons, nor take their daughters unto your sons, or for yourselves.

- イスラエル の 王 ソロモン すらも， このようにして 罪を 犯したのではなかったか． 數ある 諸國の 中でも 彼のような 王はおらず， 神に 愛され， 神によってすべての イスラエル の 王に 立てられた， その 彼でさえ， 異民族の 妻たちによって 罪に 引き ¿まれてしまった．
- わたしたちの 神に 逆らって 異民族の 女と 結婚するという， この 大きな 罪惡を 犯したということを， お 前たちについても 聞かされなければならないのか． 」
- 大祭司 エルヤシブ の 孫で ヨヤダ の 子の 一人が， ホロニ 人 サンバラト の 娘¿となっていた． わたしは， 彼を 遠く 追放した．
- わたしの 神よ， 祭司職を 汚し， 祭司と レビ 人の 契約を 汚した 者のことを 覺えていてください．
- わたしはすべての 異民族から 彼らを 淸め， 祭司と レビ 人に 守るべき 務めを 定め， それぞれその 任務に 就かせました．

- Did not Solomon king of Israel sin by these things? yet among many nations was there no king like him, who was beloved of his God, and God made him king over all Israel: nevertheless even him did outlandish women cause to sin.
- Shall we then hearken unto you to do all this great evil, to transgress against our God in marrying strange wives?
- And one of the sons of Joiada, the son of Eliashib the high priest, was son in law to Sanballat the Horonite: therefore I chased him from me.
- Remember them, O my God, because they have defiled the priesthood, and the covenant of the priesthood, and of the Levites.
- Thus cleansed I them from all strangers, and appointed the wards of the priests and the Levites, every one in his business;

- また 定められた 時に 薪を 奉納し， 初物をささげるように 定めました． わたしの 神よ， わたしを 御心に 留め， お 惠みください．
|
- And for the wood offering, at times appointed, and for the firstfruits. Remember me, O my God, for good.
