- Paul and Timotheus, the servants of Jesus Christ, to all the saints in Christ Jesus which are at Philippi, with the bishops and deacons:
- Grace be unto you, and peace, from God our Father, and from the Lord Jesus Christ.
- I thank my God upon every remembrance of you,
- Always in every prayer of mine for you all making request with joy,
- For your fellowship in the gospel from the first day until now;

- あなたがたの 中で 善い 業を 始められた 方が， キリスト · イエス の 日までに， その 業を 成し 遂げてくださると， わたしは 確信しています．
- わたしがあなたがた 一同についてこのように 考えるのは， 當然です． というのは， 監禁されているときも， 福音を 弁明し 立證するときも， あなたがた 一同のことを， 共に 惠みにあずかる 者と 思って， 心に 留めているからです．
- わたしが， キリスト · イエス の 愛の 心で， あなたがた 一同のことをどれほど 思っているかは， 神が 證ししてくださいます．
- わたしは， こう 祈ります． 知る 力と 見拔く 力とを 身に 着けて， あなたがたの 愛がますます 豊かになり，
- 本當に 重要なことを 見分けられるように． そして， キリスト の 日に 備えて， 淸い 者， とがめられるところのない 者となり，

- Being confident of this very thing, that he which hath begun a good work in you will perform it until the day of Jesus Christ:
- Even as it is meet for me to think this of you all, because I have you in my heart; inasmuch as both in my bonds, and in the defence and confirmation of the gospel, ye all are partakers of my grace.
- For God is my record, how greatly I long after you all in the bowels of Jesus Christ.
- And this I pray, that your love may abound yet more and more in knowledge and in all judgment;
- That ye may approve things that are excellent; that ye may be sincere and without offence till the day of Christ.

- イエス · キリスト によって 與えられる 義の 實をあふれるほどに 受けて， 神の 榮光と 譽れとをたたえることができるように．
- 兄弟たち， わたしの 身に 起こったことが， かえって 福音の 前進に 役立ったと 知ってほしい．
- つまり， わたしが 監禁されているのは キリスト のためであると， 兵營全體， その 他のすべての 人¿に 知れ 渡り，
- 主に 結ばれた 兄弟たちの 中で 多くの 者が， わたしの 捕らわれているのを 見て 確信を 得， 恐れることなくますます 勇敢に， 御言葉を 語るようになったのです．
- キリスト を 宣べ 傳えるのに， ねたみと 爭いの 念にかられてする 者もいれば， 善意でする 者もいます．

- Being filled with the fruits of righteousness, which are by Jesus Christ, unto the glory and praise of God.
- But I would ye should understand, brethren, that the things which happened unto me have fallen out rather unto the furtherance of the gospel;
- So that my bonds in Christ are manifest in all the palace, and in all other places;
- And many of the brethren in the Lord, waxing confident by my bonds, are much more bold to speak the word without fear.
- Some indeed preach Christ even of envy and strife; and some also of good will:

- 一方は， わたしが 福音を 弁明するために 捕らわれているのを 知って， 愛の 動機からそうするのですが，
- 他方は， 自分の 利益を 求めて， 獄中のわたしをいっそう 苦しめようという 不純な 動機から キリスト を 告げ 知らせているのです．
- だが， それがなんであろう． 口實であれ， 眞實であれ， とにかく， キリスト が 告げ 知らされているのですから， わたしはそれを 喜んでいます． これからも 喜びます．
- というのは， あなたがたの 祈りと， イエス · キリスト の 靈の 助けとによって， このことがわたしの 救いになると 知っているからです．
- そして， どんなことにも 恥をかかず， これまでのように 今も， 生きるにも 死ぬにも， わたしの 身によって キリスト が 公然とあがめられるようにと 切に 願い， 希望しています．

- The one preach Christ of contention, not sincerely, supposing to add affliction to my bonds:
- But the other of love, knowing that I am set for the defence of the gospel.
- What then? notwithstanding, every way, whether in pretence, or in truth, Christ is preached; and I therein do rejoice, yea, and will rejoice.
- For I know that this shall turn to my salvation through your prayer, and the supply of the Spirit of Jesus Christ,
- According to my earnest expectation and my hope, that in nothing I shall be ashamed, but that with all boldness, as always, so now also Christ shall be magnified in my body, whether it be by life, or by death.

- わたしにとって， 生きるとは キリスト であり， 死ぬことは 利益なのです．
- けれども， 肉において 生き 續ければ， 實り 多い ¿きができ， どちらを 選ぶべきか， わたしには 分かりません．
- この 二つのことの 間で， 板挾みの 狀態です． 一方では， この 世を 去って， キリスト と 共にいたいと 熱望しており， この 方がはるかに 望ましい．
- だが 他方では， 肉にとどまる 方が， あなたがたのためにもっと 必要です．
- こう 確信していますから， あなたがたの 信仰を 深めて 喜びをもたらすように， いつもあなたがた 一同と 共にいることになるでしょう．

- For to me to live is Christ, and to die is gain.
- But if I live in the flesh, this is the fruit of my labour: yet what I shall choose I wot not.
- For I am in a strait betwixt two, having a desire to depart, and to be with Christ; which is far better:
- Nevertheless to abide in the flesh is more needful for you.
- And having this confidence, I know that I shall abide and continue with you all for your furtherance and joy of faith;

- そうなれば， わたしが 再びあなたがたのもとに 姿を 見せるとき， キリスト · イエス に 結ばれているというあなたがたの 誇りは， わたしゆえに 增し 加わることになります．

- That your rejoicing may be more abundant in Jesus Christ for me by my coming to you again.
