- 信仰とは， 望んでいる 事柄を 確信し， 見えない 事實を 確認することです．
- 昔の 人たちは， この 信仰のゆえに 神に 認められました．
- 信仰によって， わたしたちは， この 世界が 神の 言葉によって 創造され， 從って 見えるものは， 目に 見えているものからできたのではないことが 分かるのです．
- 信仰によって， アベル は カイン より 優れたいけにえを 神に 獻げ， その 信仰によって， 正しい 者であると 證明されました． 神が 彼の 獻げ 物を 認められたからです． アベル は 死にましたが， 信仰によってまだ 語っています．
- 信仰によって， エノク は 死を 經驗しないように， 天に 移されました． 神が 彼を 移されたので， 見えなくなったのです． 移される 前に， 神に 喜ばれていたことが 證明されていたからです．

- Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen.
- For by it the elders obtained a good report.
- Through faith we understand that the worlds were framed by the word of God, so that things which are seen were not made of things which do appear.
- By faith Abel offered unto God a more excellent sacrifice than Cain, by which he obtained witness that he was righteous, God testifying of his gifts: and by it he being dead yet speaketh.

- 信仰がなければ， 神に 喜ばれることはできません． 神に 近づく 者は， 神が 存在しておられること， また， 神は 御自分を 求める 者たちに 報いてくださる 方であることを， 信じていなければならないからです．
- 信仰によって， ノア はまだ 見ていない 事柄について 神のお 告げを 受けたとき， 恐れかしこみながら， 自分の 家族を 救うために 箱舟を 造り， その 信仰によって 世界を 罪に 定め， また 信仰に 基づく 義を 受け 繼ぐ 者となりました．
- 信仰によって， アブラハム は， 自分が 財産として 受け 繼ぐことになる 土地に 出て 行くように 召し 出されると， これに 服從し， 行き 先も 知らずに 出發したのです．
- 信仰によって， アブラハム は 他國に 宿るようにして 約束の 地に 住み， 同じ 約束されたものを 共に 受け 繼ぐ 者である イサク ， ヤコブ と 一緖に 幕屋に 住みました．
- アブラハム は， 神が 設計者であり 建設者である 堅固な 土台を 持つ 都を 待望していたからです．

- But without faith it is impossible to please him: for he that cometh to God must believe that he is, and that he is a rewarder of them that diligently seek him.

- それで， 死んだも 同樣の 一人の 人から 空の 星のように， また 海邊の 數えきれない 砂のように， 多くの 子孫が 生まれたのです．
- この 人たちは 皆， 信仰を 抱いて 死にました． 約束されたものを 手に 入れませんでしたが， はるかにそれを 見て 喜びの 聲をあげ， 自分たちが 地上ではよそ 者であり， 假住まいの 者であることを 公に 言い 表したのです．
- このように 言う 人たちは， 自分が 故鄕を 探し 求めていることを 明らかに 表しているのです．
- もし 出て 來た 土地のことを 思っていたのなら， 戾るのに 良い 機會もあったかもしれません．

- Through faith also Sara herself received strength to conceive seed, and was delivered of a child when she was past age, because she judged him faithful who had promised.

- ところが 實際は， 彼らは 更にまさった 故鄕， すなわち 天の 故鄕を 熱望していたのです． だから， 神は 彼らの 神と 呼ばれることを 恥となさいません． 神は， 彼らのために 都を 準備されていたからです．

- But now they desire a better country, that is, an heavenly: wherefore God is not ashamed to be called their God: for he hath prepared for them a city.
