- そのころ， 皇帝 アウグストゥス から 全領土の 住民に， 登錄をせよとの 勅令が 出た．
- これは， キリニウス が シリア 州の 總督であったときに 行われた 最初の 住民登錄である．
- 人¿は 皆， 登錄するためにおのおの 自分の 町へ 旅立った．
- ヨセフ も ダビデ の 家に 屬し， その 血筋であったので， ガリラヤ の 町 ナザレ から， ユダヤ の ベツレヘム という ダビデ の 町へ 上って 行った．
- 身ごもっていた， いいなずけの マリア と 一緖に 登錄するためである．

- Now in those days a decree went out from Caesar Augustus, that a census be taken of all the inhabited earth.
- This was the first census taken while Quirinius was governor of Syria.
- And everyone was on his way to register for the census, each to his own city.
- Joseph also went up from Galilee, from the city of Nazareth, to Judea, to the city of David which is called Bethlehem, because he was of the house and family of David,
- in order to register along with Mary, who was engaged to him, and was with child.

- ところが， 彼らが ベツレヘム にいるうちに， マリア は 月が 滿ちて，
- 初めての 子を 産み， 布にくるんで 飼い 葉桶に 寢かせた． 宿屋には 彼らの 泊まる 場所がなかったからである．
- その 地方で 羊飼いたちが 野宿をしながら， 夜通し 羊の 群れの 番をしていた．
- すると， 主の 天使が 近づき， 主の 榮光が 周りを 照らしたので， 彼らは 非常に 恐れた．
- 天使は 言った． 「恐れるな． わたしは， 民全體に 與えられる 大きな 喜びを 告げる．

- While they were there, the days were completed for her to give birth.
- And she gave birth to her firstborn son; and she wrapped Him in cloths, and laid Him in a manger, because there was no room for them in the inn.
- In the same region there were some shepherds staying out in the fields and keeping watch over their flock by night.
- And an angel of the Lord suddenly stood before them, and the glory of the Lord shone around them; and they were terribly frightened.
- But the angel said to them, "Do not be afraid; for behold, I bring you good news of great joy which will be for all the people;

- 今日 ダビデ の 町で， あなたがたのために 救い 主がお 生まれになった． この 方こそ 主 メシア である．
- あなたがたは， 布にくるまって 飼い 葉桶の 中に 寢ている 乳飮み 子を 見つけるであろう． これがあなたがたへのしるしである． 」
- すると， 突然， この 天使に 天の 大軍が 加わり， 神を 贊美して 言った．
- 「いと 高きところには 榮光， 神にあれ， ／地には 平和， 御心に 適う 人にあれ． 」
- 天使たちが 離れて 天に 去ったとき， 羊飼いたちは， 「さあ， ベツレヘム へ 行こう． 主が 知らせてくださったその 出來事を 見ようではないか 」と 話し 合った．

- for today in the city of David there has been born for you a Savior, who is Christ the Lord.
- "This will be a sign for you: you will find a baby wrapped in cloths and lying in a manger."
- And suddenly there appeared with the angel a multitude of the heavenly host praising God and saying,
- "Glory to God in the highest, And on earth peace among men with whom He is pleased."
- When the angels had gone away from them into heaven, the shepherds began saying to one another, "Let us go straight to Bethlehem then, and see this thing that has happened which the Lord has made known to us."

- そして 急いで 行って， マリア と ヨセフ ， また 飼い 葉桶に 寢かせてある 乳飮み 子を 探し 當てた．
- その 光景を 見て， 羊飼いたちは， この 幼子について 天使が 話してくれたことを 人¿に 知らせた．
- 聞いた 者は 皆， 羊飼いたちの 話を 不思議に 思った．
- しかし， マリア はこれらの 出來事をすべて 心に 納めて， 思い 巡らしていた．
- 羊飼いたちは， 見聞きしたことがすべて 天使の 話したとおりだったので， 神をあがめ， 贊美しながら 歸って 行った．

- So they came in a hurry and found their way to Mary and Joseph, and the baby as He lay in the manger.
- When they had seen this, they made known the statement which had been told them about this Child.
- And all who heard it wondered at the things which were told them by the shepherds.
- But Mary treasured all these things, pondering them in her heart.
- The shepherds went back, glorifying and praising God for all that they had heard and seen, just as had been told them.

- 八日たって 割禮の 日を 迎えたとき， 幼子は イエス と 名付けられた． これは， 胎內に 宿る 前に 天使から 示された 名である．
- さて， モ ― セ の 律法に 定められた 彼らの 淸めの 期間が 過ぎたとき， 兩親はその 子を 主に 獻げるため， エルサレム に 連れて 行った．
- それは 主の 律法に， 「初めて 生まれる 男子は 皆， 主のために 聖別される 」と 書いてあるからである．
- また， 主の 律法に 言われているとおりに， 山鳩一つがいか， 家鳩の 雛二羽をいけにえとして 獻げるためであった．
- そのとき， エルサレム に シメオン という 人がいた． この 人は 正しい 人で 信仰があつく， イスラエル の 慰められるのを 待ち 望み， 聖靈が 彼にとどまっていた．

- And when eight days had passed, before His circumcision, His name was then called Jesus, the name given by the angel before He was conceived in the womb.
- And when the days for their purification according to the law of Moses were completed, they brought Him up to Jerusalem to present Him to the Lord
- (as it is written in the Law of the Lord, "EVERY firstborn MALE THAT OPENS THE WOMB SHALL BE CALLED HOLY TO THE LORD"),
- and to offer a sacrifice according to what was said in the Law of the Lord, "A PAIR OF TURTLEDOVES OR TWO YOUNG PIGEONS."
- And there was a man in Jerusalem whose name was Simeon; and this man was righteous and devout, looking for the consolation of Israel; and the Holy Spirit was upon him.

- そして， 主が 遣わす メシア に 會うまでは 決して 死なない， とのお 告げを 聖靈から 受けていた．
- シメオン が “靈 ＂に 導かれて 神殿の 境內に 入って 來たとき， 兩親は， 幼子のために 律法の 規定どおりにいけにえを 獻げようとして， イエス を 連れて 來た．
- シメオン は 幼子を 腕に 抱き， 神をたたえて 言った．
- 「主よ， 今こそあなたは， お 言葉どおり ／この 僕を 安らかに 去らせてくださいます．
- わたしはこの 目であなたの 救いを 見たからです．

- And it had been revealed to him by the Holy Spirit that he would not see death before he had seen the Lord's Christ.
- And he came in the Spirit into the temple; and when the parents brought in the child Jesus, to carry out for Him the custom of the Law,
- then he took Him into his arms, and blessed God, and said,
- "Now Lord, You are releasing Your bond-servant to depart in peace, According to Your word;
- For my eyes have seen Your salvation,

- これは 万民のために 整えてくださった 救いで，
- 異邦人を 照らす 啓示の 光， ／あなたの 民 イスラエル の 譽れです． 」
- 父と 母は， 幼子についてこのように 言われたことに 驚いていた．
- シメオン は 彼らを 祝福し， 母親の マリア に 言った． 「御覽なさい． この 子は， イスラエル の 多くの 人を 倒したり 立ち 上がらせたりするためにと 定められ， また， 反對を 受けるしるしとして 定められています．
- ――あなた 自身も 劍で 心を 刺し 貫かれます ――多くの 人の 心にある 思いがあらわにされるためです． 」

- Which You have prepared in the presence of all peoples,
- A LIGHT OF REVELATION TO THE GENTILES, And the glory of Your people Israel."
- And His father and mother were amazed at the things which were being said about Him.
- And Simeon blessed them and said to Mary His mother, "Behold, this Child is appointed for the fall and rise of many in Israel, and for a sign to be opposed--
- and a sword will pierce even your own soul--to the end that thoughts from many hearts may be revealed."
