신명기

  본서는 가나안 땅과 마주한 모압 평지에서 40년 간의 광야 생활을 총결산하는 모세의 유언적 회고 형식의 3편의 설교이다. 본서는 구속과 자비로운 은혜를 베푸시는 하나님을 기억할 것과 하나님을 사랑하는 것이 곧 하나님의 계명을 지키는 것임을 강조하고 있다.

  첫번째 설교(1-4장)는 이스라엘 백성의 불순종으로 인한 방황의 역사 가운데 하나님께서 하신 일을 회고하고 있고, 두번째 설교(5-26장)는 이스라엘이 하나님께로부터 받은 율법인 십계명, 의식법, 민법, 기타 사회법에 대하여 언급하고 있다. 그리고 마지막 설교(27-34장)는 순종에 따르는 복과 불순종에 따르는 저주를 선포한 뒤, 생명과 복을 택하라고 권면하고 있다. 모세는 여호수아를 후계자로 세우고 이스라엘을 축복한 후, 비스가 산에 올라 가나안을 바라보며 임종한다.

 

 

신명기 1:1-1:46

가나안에 들어가기 직전, 모압 땅에서 모세는 백성들에게 광야에서 일어났던 일들을 회고하며 율법을 환기시켰다. 모세는 가데스에서 가나안 입성을 위해 파견된 정탐꾼들의 부정적인 보고에 동요된 백성들이 원망함으로 가나안 땅에 들어가지 못하고 이에 동의하지 않은 여호수아와 갈렙, 그리고 당시 20세 미만이었던 사람들만이 40년 광야 생활 후에 들어갈 수 있게 되었음을 회고했다.
 
  언약과 여정 회고(1:1-1:46)

  2. It is eleven days' journey from Horeb by the way of Mount Seir to Kadesh-barnea.
  3. In the fortieth year, on the first day of the eleventh month, Moses spoke to the children of Israel, according to all that the LORD had commanded him to give to them,
  4. after he had defeated Sihon the king of the Amorites, who lived in Heshbon, and Og the king of Bashan, who lived in Ashtaroth and Edrei.
  5. Across the Jordan in the land of Moab, Moses undertook to expound this law, saying,

  3. 'See, I have placed the land before you; go in and possess the land which the LORD swore to give to your fathers, to Abraham, to Isaac, and to Jacob, to them and their descendants after them.'
  4. "I spoke to you at that time, saying, 'I am not able to bear the burden of you alone.
  5. 'The LORD your God has multiplied you, and behold, you are this day like the stars of heaven in number.

  5. "So I took the heads of your tribes, wise and experienced men, and appointed them heads over you, leaders of thousands and of hundreds, of fifties and of tens, and officers for your tribes.

  5. "I said to you, 'You have come to the hill country of the Amorites which the LORD our God is about to give us.

  5. "Then they took some of the fruit of the land in their hands and brought it down to us; and they brought us back a report and said, 'It is a good land which the LORD our God is about to give us.'

  4. "Then the LORD heard the sound of your words, and He was angry and took an oath, saying,
  5. 'Not one of these men, this evil generation, shall see the good land which I swore to give your fathers,

  4. 'Moreover, your little ones who you said would become a prey, and your sons, who this day have no knowledge of good or evil, shall enter there, and I will give it to them and they shall possess it.
  5. 'But as for you, turn around and set out for the wilderness by the way to the Red Sea.'

  2. "And the LORD said to me, 'Say to them, "Do not go up nor fight, for I am not among you; otherwise you will be defeated before your enemies."'
  3. "So I spoke to you, but you would not listen. Instead you rebelled against the command of the LORD, and acted presumptuously and went up into the hill country.
  4. "The Amorites who lived in that hill country came out against you and chased you as bees do, and crushed you from Seir to Hormah.
  5. "Then you returned and wept before the LORD; but the LORD did not listen to your voice nor give ear to you.
