- わが 子よ， もし 友人の 保證人となって ／他國の 者に 手を 打って 誓い
- あなたの 口の 言葉によって ┼に 陷り ／あなたの 口の 言葉によって ┼にかかったなら
- わが 子よ， そのときにはこうして 自分を 救え． 命は 友人の 手中にあるのだから ／行って 足を 踏みならし， 友人を 責め 立てよ．
- あなたの 目に 眠りを 與えず ／まぶたにまどろむことを 許すな．
- 狩人の ┼を 逃れるかもしかのように ／鳥のように， 自分を 救い 出せ．

- My son, if you have become surety for your neighbor, Have given a pledge for a stranger,
- If you have been snared with the words of your mouth, Have been caught with the words of your mouth,
- Do this then, my son, and deliver yourself; Since you have come into the hand of your neighbor, Go, humble yourself, and importune your neighbor.
- Give no sleep to your eyes, Nor slumber to your eyelids;
- Deliver yourself like a gazelle from the hunter's hand And like a bird from the hand of the fowler.

- 怠け 者よ， 蟻のところに 行って 見よ． その 道を 見て， 知惠を 得よ．
- 蟻には 首領もなく， 指揮官も 支配者もないが
- 夏の 間に パン を 備え， 刈り 入れ 時に 食糧を 集める．
- 怠け 者よ， いつまで 橫になっているのか． いつ， 眠りから 起き 上がるのか．
- しばらく 眠り， しばらくまどろみ ／しばらく 手をこまぬいて， また 橫になる．

- Go to the ant, O sluggard, Observe her ways and be wise,
- Which, having no chief, Officer or ruler,
- Prepares her food in the summer And gathers her provision in the harvest.
- How long will you lie down, O sluggard? When will you arise from your sleep?
- "A little sleep, a little slumber, A little folding of the hands to rest"--

- 貧乏は 盜賊のように ／欠乏は 盾を 持つ 者のように 襲う．

- Your poverty will come in like a vagabond And your need like an armed man.
