- そのころ， バプテスマ の ヨハネ が 現われ， ユダヤ の 荒野で 敎えを 宣べて， 言った．
- 「悔い 改めなさい． 天の 御國が 近づいたから． 」
- この 人は 預言者 イザヤ によって， 「荒野で 叫ぶ 者の 聲がする． 『主の 道を 用意し， 主の 通られる 道をまっすぐにせよ． 』」と 言われたその 人である．
- この ヨハネ は， らくだの 毛の 着物を 着， 腰には 皮の 帶を 締め， その 食べ 物はいなごと 野蜜であった．
- さて， エルサレム ， ユダヤ 全土， ヨルダン 川沿いの 全地域の 人¿が ヨハネ のところへ 出て 行き，

- In those days John the Baptist came, preaching in the Desert of Judea
- and saying, "Repent, for the kingdom of heaven is near."
- This is he who was spoken of through the prophet Isaiah: "A voice of one calling in the desert, 'Prepare the way for the Lord, make straight paths for him.' "
- John's clothes were made of camel's hair, and he had a leather belt around his waist. His food was locusts and wild honey.
- People went out to him from Jerusalem and all Judea and the whole region of the Jordan.

- 自分の 罪を 告白して， ヨルダン 川で 彼から バプテスマ を 受けた．
- しかし， パリサイ 人や サドカイ 人が 大ぜい バプテスマ を 受けに 來るのを 見たとき， ヨハネ は 彼らに 言った． 「まむしのすえたち． だれが 必ず 來る 御怒りをのがれるように 敎えたのか．
- それなら， 悔い 改めにふさわしい 實を 結びなさい．
- 『われわれの 先祖は アブラハム だ． 』と 心の 中で 言うような 考えではいけません． あなたがたに 言っておくが， 神は， この 石ころからでも， アブラハム の 子孫を 起こすことがおできになるのです．
- 斧もすでに 木の 根元に 置かれています． だから， 良い 實を 結ばない 木は， みな 切り 倒されて， 火に 投げ ¿まれます．

- Confessing their sins, they were baptized by him in the Jordan River.
- But when he saw many of the Pharisees and Sadducees coming to where he was baptizing, he said to them: "You brood of vipers! Who warned you to flee from the coming wrath?
- Produce fruit in keeping with repentance.
- And do not think you can say to yourselves, 'We have Abraham as our father.' I tell you that out of these stones God can raise up children for Abraham.
- The ax is already at the root of the trees, and every tree that does not produce good fruit will be cut down and thrown into the fire.

- 私は， あなたがたが 悔い 改めるために， 水の バプテスマ を 授けていますが， 私のあとから 來られる 方は， 私よりもさらに 力のある 方です． 私はその 方のはきものを 脫がせてあげる 値うちもありません． その 方は， あなたがたに 聖靈と 火との バプテスマ をお 授けになります．
- 手に 箕を 持っておられ， ご 自分の 脫穀場をすみずみまできよめられます． 麥を 倉に 納め， 殼を 消えない 火で 燒き 盡くされます． 」
- さて， イエス は， ヨハネ から バプテスマ を 受けるために， ガリラヤ から ヨルダン にお 着きになり， ヨハネ のところに 來られた．
- しかし， ヨハネ は イエス にそうさせまいとして， 言った． 「私こそ， あなたから バプテスマ を 受けるはずですのに， あなたが， 私のところにおいでになるのですか． 」
- ところが， イエス は 答えて 言われた． 「今はそうさせてもらいたい． このようにして， すべての 正しいことを 實行するのは， わたしたちにふさわしいのです． 」そこで， ヨハネ は 承知した．

- "I baptize you with water for repentance. But after me will come one who is more powerful than I, whose sandals I am not fit to carry. He will baptize you with the Holy Spirit and with fire.
- His winnowing fork is in his hand, and he will clear his threshing floor, gathering his wheat into the barn and burning up the chaff with unquenchable fire."
- Then Jesus came from Galilee to the Jordan to be baptized by John.
- But John tried to deter him, saying, "I need to be baptized by you, and do you come to me?"
- Jesus replied, "Let it be so now; it is proper for us to do this to fulfill all righteousness." Then John consented.

- こうして， イエス は バプテスマ を 受けて， すぐに 水から 上がられた． すると， 天が 開け， 神の 御靈が 鳩のように 下って， 自分の 上に 來られるのをご 覽になった．
- また， 天からこう 告げる 聲が 聞こえた． 「これは， わたしの 愛する 子， わたしはこれを 喜ぶ． 」

- As soon as Jesus was baptized, he went up out of the water. At that moment heaven was opened, and he saw the Spirit of God descending like a dove and lighting on him.
- And a voice from heaven said, "This is my Son, whom I love; with him I am well pleased."
