	민수기 11:24-13:33 모세는 이스라엘의 불평을 하나님께 호소하였고, 모세의 책임을 분담하기 위해 70인의 장로가 선택되었다. 미리암과 아론은 이방 여인과 결혼한 모세를 비방하였다. 이 일로 인해 미리암은 하나님의 징계를 받아 문둥병에 걸렸으나 모세의 기도로 치유되었다. 가데스 바네아에서 하나님께서 가나안 땅에 열두 정탐꾼을 보내게 하셨다. 이에 가나안 땅을 정탐하고 돌아온 정탐꾼들 중 열 명은 백성들에게 부정적인 보고를 하였으나, 여호수아와 갈렙은 믿음에 근거한 긍정적인 보고를 하였다.

	미리암과 아론의 시기(11:24-12:16)

ここでモ ― セは出て行って，主のことばを民に告げた．そして彼は民の長老たちのうちから七十人を集め，彼らを天幕の回りに立たせた．

すると主は雲の中にあって降りて來られ，モ ― セと語り，彼の上にある靈を取って，その七十人の長老にも與えた．その靈が彼らの上にとどまったとき，彼らは恍惚狀態で預言した．しかし，それを重ねることはなかった．

そのとき，ふたりの者が宿營に殘っていた．ひとりの名はエルダデ，もうひとりの名はメダデであった．彼らの上にも靈がとどまった． ··彼らは長老として登錄された者たちであったが，天幕へは出て行かなかった． ··彼らは宿營の中で恍惚狀態で預言した．

それで，ひとりの若者が走って來て，モ ― セに知らせて言った．「エルダデとメダデが宿營の中で恍惚狀態で預言しています．」

若いときからモ ― セの從者であったヌンの子ヨシュアも答えて言った．「わが主，モ ― セよ．彼らをやめさせてください．」

So Moses went out and told the people what the LORD had said. He brought together seventy of their elders and had them stand around the Tent.

Then the LORD came down in the cloud and spoke with him, and he took of the Spirit that was on him and put the Spirit on the seventy elders. When the Spirit rested on them, they prophesied, but they did not do so again.

However, two men, whose names were Eldad and Medad, had remained in the camp. They were listed among the elders, but did not go out to the Tent. Yet the Spirit also rested on them, and they prophesied in the camp.

A young man ran and told Moses, "Eldad and Medad are prophesying in the camp."

Joshua son of Nun, who had been Moses' aide since youth, spoke up and said, "Moses, my lord, stop them!"

しかしモ ― セは彼に言った．「あなたは私のためを思ってねたみを起こしているのか．主の民がみな，預言者となればよいのに．主が彼らの上にご自分の靈を與えられるとよいのに．」

それからモ ― セとイスラエルの長老たちは，宿營に戾った．

さて，主のほうから風が吹き，海の向こうからうずらを運んで來て，宿營の上に落とした．それは宿營の回りに，こちら側に約一日の道のり，あちら側にも約一日の道のり，地上に約二キュビトの高さになった．

民はその日は，終日終夜，その翌日も一日中出て行って，うずらを集め， ··最も少なく集めた者でも，十ホメルほど集めた． ··彼らはそれらを，宿營の回りに廣く廣げた．

肉が彼らの齒の間にあってまだかみ終わらないうちに，主の怒りが民に向かって燃え上がり，主は非常に激しい疫病で民を打った．

But Moses replied, "Are you jealous for my sake? I wish that all the LORD's people were prophets and that the LORD would put his Spirit on them!"

Then Moses and the elders of Israel returned to the camp.

Now a wind went out from the LORD and drove quail in from the sea. It brought them down all around the camp to about three feet above the ground, as far as a day's walk in any direction.

All that day and night and all the next day the people went out and gathered quail. No one gathered less than ten homers. Then they spread them out all around the camp.

But while the meat was still between their teeth and before it could be consumed, the anger of the LORD burned against the people, and he struck them with a severe plague.

こうして，欲望にかられた民を，彼らがそこに埋めたので，その場所の名をキブロテ · ハタアワと呼んだ．

キブロテ · ハタアワから，民はハツェロテに進み，ハツェロテにとどまった．

Therefore the place was named Kibroth Hattaavah, because there they buried the people who had craved other food.

From Kibroth Hattaavah the people traveled to Hazeroth and stayed there.

そのとき，ミリヤムはアロンといっしょに，モ ― セがめとっていたクシュ人の女のことで彼を非難した．モ ― セがクシュ人の女をめとっていたからである．

彼らは言った．「主はただモ ― セとだけ話されたのでしょうか．私たちとも話されたのではないでしょうか．」主はこれを聞かれた．

さて，モ ― セという人は，地上のだれにもまさって非常に謙遜であった．

そこで，主は突然，モ ― セとアロンとミリヤムに，「あなたがた三人は會見の天幕の所へ出よ．」と言われたので，彼ら三人は出て行った．

主は雲の柱の中にあって降りて來られ，天幕の入口に立って，アロンとミリヤムを呼ばれた．ふたりが出て行くと，

Miriam and Aaron began to talk against Moses because of his Cushite wife, for he had married a Cushite.

"Has the LORD spoken only through Moses?" they asked. "Hasn't he also spoken through us?" And the LORD heard this.

(Now Moses was a very humble man, more humble than anyone else on the face of the earth.)

At once the LORD said to Moses, Aaron and Miriam, "Come out to the Tent of Meeting, all three of you." So the three of them came out.

Then the LORD came down in a pillar of cloud; he stood at the entrance to the Tent and summoned Aaron and Miriam. When both of them stepped forward,

仰せられた．「わたしのことばを聞け．もし，あなたがたのひとりが預言者であるなら，主であるわたしは，幻の中でその者にわたしを知らせ，夢の中でその者に語る．

しかしわたしのしもべモ ― セとはそうではない．彼はわたしの全家を通じて忠實な者である．

彼とは，わたしは口と口とで語り，明らかに語って，なぞで話すことはしない．彼はまた，主の姿を仰ぎ見ている．なぜ，あなたがたは，わたしのしもべモ ― セを恐れずに非難するのか．」

主の怒りが彼らに向かって燃え上がり，主は去って行かれた．

雲が天幕の上から離れ去ると，見よ，ミリヤムは，らい病にかかり，雪のように白くなった．アロンがミリヤムのほうを振り向くと，見よ，彼女はらい病にかかっていた．

he said, "Listen to my words: "When a prophet of the LORD is among you, I reveal myself to him in visions, I speak to him in dreams.

But this is not true of my servant Moses; he is faithful in all my house.

With him I speak face to face, clearly and not in riddles; he sees the form of the LORD. Why then were you not afraid to speak against my servant Moses?"

The anger of the LORD burned against them, and he left them.

When the cloud lifted from above the Tent, there stood Miriam--leprous, like snow. Aaron turned toward her and saw that she had leprosy;

アロンはモ ― セに言った．「わが主よ．私たちが愚かで犯しました罪の罰をどうか，私たちに負わせないでください．

どうか，彼女を，その肉が半ば腐って母の胎から出て來る死人のようにしないでください．」

それで，モ ― セは主に叫んで言った．「神よ．どうか，彼女をいやしてください．」

しかし主はモ ― セに言われた．「彼女の父が，彼女の顔につばきしてさえ，彼女は七日間，恥をかかせられたことになるではないか．彼女を七日間，宿營の外に締め出しておかなければならない．その後に彼女を連れ戾すことができる．」

それでミリヤムは七日間，宿營の外に締め出された．民はミリヤムが連れ戾されるまで，旅立たなかった．

and he said to Moses, "Please, my lord, do not hold against us the sin we have so foolishly committed.

Do not let her be like a stillborn infant coming from its mother's womb with its flesh half eaten away."

So Moses cried out to the LORD, "O God, please heal her!"

The LORD replied to Moses, "If her father had spit in her face, would she not have been in disgrace for seven days? Confine her outside the camp for seven days; after that she can be brought back."

So Miriam was confined outside the camp for seven days, and the people did not move on till she was brought back.

その後，民はハツェロテから旅立ち，パランの荒野に宿營した．

After that, the people left Hazeroth and encamped in the Desert of Paran.

	가나안 정탐(13:1-13:33)

主はモ ― セに告げて仰せられた．

「人¿を遣わして，わたしがイスラエル人に與えようとしているカナンの地を探らせよ．父祖の部族ごとにひとりずつ，みな，その族長を遣わさなければならない．」

モ ― セは主の命によって，パランの荒野から彼らを遣わした．彼らはみな，イスラエル人のかしらであった．

彼らの名は次のとおりであった．ルベン部族からはザクルの子シャムア．

シメオン部族からはホリの子シャファテ．

The LORD said to Moses,

"Send some men to explore the land of Canaan, which I am giving to the Israelites. From each ancestral tribe send one of its leaders."

So at the LORD's command Moses sent them out from the Desert of Paran. All of them were leaders of the Israelites.

These are their names: from the tribe of Reuben, Shammua son of Zaccur;

from the tribe of Simeon, Shaphat son of Hori;

ユダ部族からはエフネの子カレブ．

イッサカル部族からはヨセフの子イグアル．

エフライム部族からはヌンの子ホセア．

ベニヤミン部族からはラフの子パルティ．

ゼブルン部族からはソディの子ガディエル．

from the tribe of Judah, Caleb son of Jephunneh;

from the tribe of Issachar, Igal son of Joseph;

from the tribe of Ephraim, Hoshea son of Nun;

from the tribe of Benjamin, Palti son of Raphu;

from the tribe of Zebulun, Gaddiel son of Sodi;

ヨセフ部族，すなわちマナセ部族からはスシの子ガディ．

ダン部族からはゲマリの子アミエル．

アシェル部族からはミカエルの子セトル．

ナフタリ部族からはボフシの子ナフビ．

ガド部族からはマキの子ゲウエル．

from the tribe of Manasseh (a tribe of Joseph), Gaddi son of Susi;

from the tribe of Dan, Ammiel son of Gemalli;

from the tribe of Asher, Sethur son of Michael;

from the tribe of Naphtali, Nahbi son of Vophsi;

from the tribe of Gad, Geuel son of Maki.

以上は，モ ― セがその地を探らせるために遣わした者の名であった．そのときモ ― セはヌンの子ホセアをヨシュアと名づけた．

モ ― セは彼らを，カナンの地を探りにやったときに，言った．「あちらに上って行ってネゲブにはいり，山地に行って，

その地がどんなであるか，そこに住んでいる民が强いか弱いか，あるいは少ないか多いかを調べなさい．

また彼らが住んでいる土地はどうか，それが良いか惡いか．彼らが住んでいる町¿はどうか，それらは宿營かそれとも城壁の町か．

土地はどうか，それは肥えているか，やせているか．そこには木があるか，ないかを調べなさい．あなたがたは勇氣を出し，その地のくだものを取って來なさい．」その季節は初ぶどうの熟すころであった．

These are the names of the men Moses sent to explore the land. (Moses gave Hoshea son of Nun the name Joshua.)

When Moses sent them to explore Canaan, he said, "Go up through the Negev and on into the hill country.

See what the land is like and whether the people who live there are strong or weak, few or many.

What kind of land do they live in? Is it good or bad? What kind of towns do they live in? Are they unwalled or fortified?

How is the soil? Is it fertile or poor? Are there trees on it or not? Do your best to bring back some of the fruit of the land." (It was the season for the first ripe grapes.)

そこで，彼らは上って行き，ツィンの荒野からレボ · ハマテのレホブまで，その地を探った．

彼らは上って行ってネゲブにはいり，ヘブロンまで行った．そこにはアナクの子孫であるアヒマンと，シェシャイと，タルマイが住んでいた．ヘブロンはエジプトのツォアンより七年前に建てられた．

彼らはエシュコルの谷まで來て，そこでぶどうが一ふさついた枝を切り取り，それをふたりが棒でかついだ．また，いくらかのざくろやいちじくも切り取った．

イスラエル人がそこで切り取ったぶどうのふさのことから，その場所はエシュコルの谷と呼ばれた．

四十日がたって，彼らはその地の偵察から歸って來た．

So they went up and explored the land from the Desert of Zin as far as Rehob, toward Lebo Hamath.

They went up through the Negev and came to Hebron, where Ahiman, Sheshai and Talmai, the descendants of Anak, lived. (Hebron had been built seven years before Zoan in Egypt.)

When they reached the Valley of Eshcol, they cut off a branch bearing a single cluster of grapes. Two of them carried it on a pole between them, along with some pomegranates and figs.

That place was called the Valley of Eshcol because of the cluster of grapes the Israelites cut off there.

At the end of forty days they returned from exploring the land.

そして，ただちにパランの荒野のカデシュにいるモ ― セとアロンおよびイスラエルの全會衆のところに行き，ふたりと全會衆に報告をして，彼らにその地のくだものを見せた．

彼らはモ ― セに告げて言った．「私たちは，あなたがお遣わしになった地に行きました．そこにはまことに乳と蜜が流れています．そしてこれがそこのくだものです．

しかし，その地に住む民は力强く，その町¿は城壁を持ち，非常に大きく，そのうえ，私たちはそこでアナクの子孫を見ました．

ネゲブの地方にはアマレク人が住み，山地にはヘテ人，エブス人，エモリ人が住んでおり，海岸とヨルダンの川岸にはカナン人が住んでいます．」

そのとき，カレブがモ ― セの前で，民を靜めて言った．「私たちはぜひとも，上って行って，そこを占領しよう．必ずそれができるから．」

They came back to Moses and Aaron and the whole Israelite community at Kadesh in the Desert of Paran. There they reported to them and to the whole assembly and showed them the fruit of the land.

They gave Moses this account: "We went into the land to which you sent us, and it does flow with milk and honey! Here is its fruit.

But the people who live there are powerful, and the cities are fortified and very large. We even saw descendants of Anak there.

The Amalekites live in the Negev; the Hittites, Jebusites and Amorites live in the hill country; and the Canaanites live near the sea and along the Jordan."

Then Caleb silenced the people before Moses and said, "We should go up and take possession of the land, for we can certainly do it."

しかし，彼といっしょに上って行った者たちは言った．「私たちはあの民のところに攻め上れない．あの民は私たちより强いから．」

彼らは探って來た地について，イスラエル人に惡く言いふらして言った．「私たちが行き巡って探った地は，その住民を食い盡くす地だ．私たちがそこで見た民はみな，背の高い者たちだ．

そこで，私たちはネフィリム人，ネフィリム人のアナク人を見た．私たちには自分がいなごのように見えたし，彼らにもそう見えたことだろう．」

But the men who had gone up with him said, "We can't attack those people; they are stronger than we are."

And they spread among the Israelites a bad report about the land they had explored. They said, "The land we explored devours those living in it. All the people we saw there are of great size.

We saw the Nephilim there (the descendants of Anak come from the Nephilim). We seemed like grasshoppers in our own eyes, and we looked the same to them."
