	민수기 22:1-23:30 이스라엘 자손이 모압 평지에 진을 치자, 위협을 느낀 모압 왕 발락은 우상의 힘이라도 빌려 이를 저지하고자 당대의 유명한 복술가인 발람을 초청하였다. 그러나 하나님께서 발람에게 임하셔서 이스라엘을 저주하는 대신 오히려 축복하게 하셨다.

	발락의 발람 초청(22:1-22:41)

イスラエル人はさらに進んで，ヨルダンのエリコをのぞむ對岸のモアブの草原に宿營した．

さてツィポルの子バラクは，イスラエルがエモリ人に行なったすべてのことを見た．

モアブはイスラエルの民が多數であったので非常に恐れた．それでモアブはイスラエル人に恐怖をいだいた．

そこでモアブはミデヤンの長老たちに言った．「今，この集團は，牛が野の靑草をなめ盡くすように，私たちの回りのすべてのものをなめ盡くそうとしている．」ツィポルの子バラクは當時，モアブの王であった．

そこで彼は，同族の國にあるユ ― フラテス河畔のペトルにいるベオルの子バラムを招こうとして使者たちを遣わして，言わせた．「今ここに，一つの民がエジプトから出て來ている．今や，彼らは地の面をおおって，私のすぐそばにとどまっている．

And the children of Israel set forward, and pitched in the plains of Moab on this side Jordan by Jericho.

And Balak the son of Zippor saw all that Israel had done to the Amorites.

And Moab was sore afraid of the people, because they were many: and Moab was distressed because of the children of Israel.

And Moab said unto the elders of Midian, Now shall this company lick up all that are round about us, as the ox licketh up the grass of the field. And Balak the son of Zippor was king of the Moabites at that time.

He sent messengers therefore unto Balaam the son of Beor to Pethor, which is by the river of the land of the children of his people, to call him, saying, Behold, there is a people come out from Egypt: behold, they cover the face of the earth, and they abide over against me:

どうかいま來て，私のためにこの民をのろってもらいたい．この民は私より强い．そうしてくれれば，たぶん私は彼らを打って，この地から追い出すことができよう．私は，あなたが祝福する者は祝福され，あなたがのろう者はのろわれることを知っている．」

占いに通じているモアブの長老たちとミデヤンの長老たちとは，バラムのところに行き，彼にバラクのことづけを告げた．

するとバラムは彼らに言った．「今夜はここに泊まりなさい．主が私に告げられるとおりのことをあなたがたに答えましょう．」そこでモアブのつかさたちはバラムのもとにとどまった．

神はバラムのところに來て言われた．「あなたといっしょにいるこの者たちは何者か．」

バラムは神に申し上げた．「モアブの王ツィポルの子バラクが，私のところに使いをよこしました．

Come now therefore, I pray thee, curse me this people; for they are too mighty for me: peradventure I shall prevail, that we may smite them, and that I may drive them out of the land: for I wot that he whom thou blessest is blessed, and he whom thou cursest is cursed.

And the elders of Moab and the elders of Midian departed with the rewards of divination in their hand; and they came unto Balaam, and spake unto him the words of Balak.

And he said unto them, Lodge here this night, and I will bring you word again, as the LORD shall speak unto me: and the princes of Moab abode with Balaam.

And God came unto Balaam, and said, What men are these with thee?

And Balaam said unto God, Balak the son of Zippor, king of Moab, hath sent unto me, saying,

『今ここに，エジプトから出て來た民がいて，地の面をおおっている．いま來て，私のためにこの民をのろってくれ．そうしたら，たぶん私は彼らと戰って，追い出すことができよう．』」

神はバラムに言われた．「あなたは彼らといっしょに行ってはならない．またその民をのろってもいけない．その民は祝福されているからだ．」

朝になると，バラムは起きてバラクのつかさたちに言った．「あなたがたの國に歸りなさい．主は私をあなたがたといっしょに行かせようとはなさらないから．」

モアブのつかさたちは立ってバラクのところに歸り，そして言った．「バラムは私たちといっしょに來ようとはしませんでした．」

バラクはもう一度，前の者より大ぜいの，しかも位の高いつかさたちを遣わした．

Behold, there is a people come out of Egypt, which covereth the face of the earth: come now, curse me them; peradventure I shall be able to overcome them, and drive them out.

And God said unto Balaam, Thou shalt not go with them; thou shalt not curse the people: for they are blessed.

And Balaam rose up in the morning, and said unto the princes of Balak, Get you into your land: for the LORD refuseth to give me leave to go with you.

And the princes of Moab rose up, and they went unto Balak, and said, Balaam refuseth to come with us.

And Balak sent yet again princes, more, and more honourable than they.

彼らはバラムのところに來て彼に言った．「ツィポルの子バラクはこう申しました．『どうか私のところに來るのを拒まないでください．

私はあなたを手厚くもてなします．また，あなたが私に言いつけられることは何でもします．どうぞ來て，私のためにこの民をのろってください．』」

しかしバラムはバラクの家臣たちに答えて言った．「たといバラクが私に銀や金の滿ちた彼の家をくれても，私は私の神，主のことばにそむいて，事の大小にかかわらず，何もすることはできません．

それであなたがたもまた，今晩ここにとどまりなさい．主が私に何かほかのことをお告げになるかどうか確かめましょう．」

その夜，神はバラムのところに來て，彼に言われた．「この者たちがあなたを招きに來たのなら，立って彼らとともに行け．だが，あなたはただ，わたしがあなたに告げることだけを行なえ．」

And they came to Balaam, and said to him, Thus saith Balak the son of Zippor, Let nothing, I pray thee, hinder thee from coming unto me:

For I will promote thee unto very great honour, and I will do whatsoever thou sayest unto me: come therefore, I pray thee, curse me this people.

And Balaam answered and said unto the servants of Balak, If Balak would give me his house full of silver and gold, I cannot go beyond the word of the LORD my God, to do less or more.

Now therefore, I pray you, tarry ye also here this night, that I may know what the LORD will say unto me more.

And God came unto Balaam at night, and said unto him, If the men come to call thee, rise up, and go with them; but yet the word which I shall say unto thee, that shalt thou do.

朝になると，バラムは起きて，彼のろばに鞍をつけ，モアブのつかさたちといっしょに出かけた．

しかし，彼が出かけると，神の怒りが燃え上がり，主の使いが彼に敵對して道に立ちふさがった．バラムはろばに乘っており，ふたりの若者がそばにいた．

ろばは主の使いが拔き身の劍を手に持って道に立ちふさがっているのを見たので，ろばは道からそれて畑の中に行った．そこでバラムはろばを打って道に戾そうとした．

しかし主の使いは，兩側に石垣のあるぶどう畑の間の狹い道に立っていた．

ろばは主の使いを見て，石垣に身を押しつけ，バラムの足を石垣に押しつけたので，彼はまた，ろばを打った．

And Balaam rose up in the morning, and saddled his ass, and went with the princes of Moab.

And God's anger was kindled because he went: and the angel of the LORD stood in the way for an adversary against him. Now he was riding upon his ass, and his two servants were with him.

And the ass saw the angel of the LORD standing in the way, and his sword drawn in his hand: and the ass turned aside out of the way, and went into the field: and Balaam smote the ass, to turn her into the way.

But the angel of the LORD stood in a path of the vineyards, a wall being on this side, and a wall on that side.

And when the ass saw the angel of the LORD, she thrust herself unto the wall, and crushed Balaam's foot against the wall: and he smote her again.

主の使いは，さらに進んで，右にも左にもよける余地のない狹い所に立った．

ろばは，主の使いを見て，バラムを背にしたまま，うずくまってしまった．そこでバラムは怒りを燃やして，杖でろばを打った．

すると，主はろばの口を開かれたので，ろばがバラムに言った．「私があなたに何をしたというのですか．私を三度も打つとは．」

バラムはろばに言った．「おまえが私をばかにしたからだ．もし私の手に劍があれば，今，おまえを殺してしまうところだ．」

ろばはバラムに言った．「私は，あなたがきょうのこの日まで，ずっと乘ってこられたあなたのろばではありませんか．私が，かつて，あなたにこんなことをしたことがあったでしょうか．」彼は答えた．「いや，なかった．」

And the angel of the LORD went further, and stood in a narrow place, where was no way to turn either to the right hand or to the left.

And when the ass saw the angel of the LORD, she fell down under Balaam: and Balaam's anger was kindled, and he smote the ass with a staff.

And the LORD opened the mouth of the ass, and she said unto Balaam, What have I done unto thee, that thou hast smitten me these three times?

And Balaam said unto the ass, Because thou hast mocked me: I would there were a sword in mine hand, for now would I kill thee.

And the ass said unto Balaam, Am not I thine ass, upon which thou hast ridden ever since I was thine unto this day? was I ever wont to do so unto thee? And he said, Nay.

そのとき，主がバラムの目のおおいを除かれたので，彼は主の使いが拔き身の劍を手に持って道に立ちふさがっているのを見た．彼はひざまずき，伏し拜んだ．

主の使いは彼に言った．「なぜ，あなたは，あなたのろばを三度も打ったのか．敵對して出て來たのはわたしだったのだ．あなたの道がわたしとは反對に向いていたからだ．

ろばはわたしを見て，三度もわたしから身を巡らしたのだ．もしかして，ろばがわたしから身を巡らしていなかったなら，わたしは今はもう，あなたを殺しており，ろばを生かしておいたことだろう．」

バラムは主の使いに申し上げた．「私は罪を犯しました．私はあなたが私をとどめようと道に立ちふさがっておられたのを知りませんでした．今，もし，あなたのお氣に召さなければ，私は引き返します．」

主の使いはバラムに言った．「この人たちといっしょに行け．だが，わたしがあなたに告げることばだけを告げよ．」そこでバラムはバラクのつかさたちといっしょに行った．

Then the LORD opened the eyes of Balaam, and he saw the angel of the LORD standing in the way, and his sword drawn in his hand: and he bowed down his head, and fell flat on his face.

And the angel of the LORD said unto him, Wherefore hast thou smitten thine ass these three times? behold, I went out to withstand thee, because thy way is perverse before me:

And the ass saw me, and turned from me these three times: unless she had turned from me, surely now also I had slain thee, and saved her alive.

And Balaam said unto the angel of the LORD, I have sinned; for I knew not that thou stoodest in the way against me: now therefore, if it displease thee, I will get me back again.

And the angel of the LORD said unto Balaam, Go with the men: but only the word that I shall speak unto thee, that thou shalt speak. So Balaam went with the princes of Balak.

バラクはバラムが來たことを聞いて，彼を迎えに，國境の端にあるアルノンの國境のイル · モアブまで出て來た．

そしてバラクはバラムに言った．「私はあなたを迎えるために，わざわざ使いを送ったではありませんか．なぜ，すぐ私のところに來てくださらなかったのですか．ほんとうに私にはあなたを手厚くもてなすことができないのでしょうか．」

バラムはバラクに言った．「ご覽なさい．私は今あなたのところに來ているではありませんか．私に何が言えるでしょう．神が私の口に置かれることば，それを私は語らなければなりません．」

こうしてバラムはバラクといっしょに出て行って，キルヤテ · フツォテに來た．

バラクは牛と羊をいけにえとしてささげ，それをバラムおよび彼とともにいたつかさたちにも配った．

And when Balak heard that Balaam was come, he went out to meet him unto a city of Moab, which is in the border of Arnon, which is in the utmost coast.

And Balak said unto Balaam, Did I not earnestly send unto thee to call thee? wherefore camest thou not unto me? am I not able indeed to promote thee to honour?

And Balaam said unto Balak, Lo, I am come unto thee: have I now any power at all to say any thing? the word that God putteth in my mouth, that shall I speak.

And Balaam went with Balak, and they came unto Kirjathhuzoth.

And Balak offered oxen and sheep, and sent to Balaam, and to the princes that were with him.

朝になると，バラクはバラムを連れ出し，彼をバモテ · バアルに上らせた．バラムはそこからイスラエルの民の一部を見ることができた．

And it came to pass on the morrow, that Balak took Balaam, and brought him up into the high places of Baal, that thence he might see the utmost part of the people.

	발람의 예언(23:1-23:30)

バラムはバラクに言った．「私のためにここに七つの祭壇を築き，七頭の雄牛と七頭の雄羊をここに用意してください．」

バラクはバラムの言ったとおりにした．そしてバラクとバラムとは，それぞれの祭壇の上で雄牛一頭と雄羊一頭とをささげた．

バラムはバラクに言った．「あなたは，あなたの全燒のいけにえのそばに立っていなさい．私は行って來ます．たぶん，主は私に現われて會ってくださるでしょう．そうしたら，私にお示しになることはどんなことでも，あなたに知らせましょう．」そして彼は裸の丘に行った．

神がバラムに會われたので，バラムは神に言った．「私は七つの祭壇を造り，それぞれの祭壇の上で雄牛一頭と雄羊一頭とをささげました．」

主はバラムの口にことばを置き，そして言われた．「バラクのところに歸れ．あなたはこう言わなければならない．」

And Balaam said unto Balak, Build me here seven altars, and prepare me here seven oxen and seven rams.

And Balak did as Balaam had spoken; and Balak and Balaam offered on every altar a bullock and a ram.

And Balaam said unto Balak, Stand by thy burnt offering, and I will go: peradventure the LORD will come to meet me: and whatsoever he sheweth me I will tell thee. And he went to an high place.

And God met Balaam: and he said unto him, I have prepared seven altars, and I have offered upon every altar a bullock and a ram.

And the LORD put a word in Balaam's mouth, and said, Return unto Balak, and thus thou shalt speak.

それで，彼はバラクのところに歸った．すると，モアブのすべてのつかさたちといっしょに，彼は自分の全燒のいけにえのそばに立っていた．

バラムは彼のことわざを唱えて言った．「バラクは，アラムから，モアブの王は，東の山¿から，私を連れて來た．『來て，私のためにヤコブをのろえ．來て，イスラエルに滅びを宣言せよ．』

And he returned unto him, and, lo, he stood by his burnt sacrifice, he, and all the princes of Moab.

And he took up his parable, and said, Balak the king of Moab hath brought me from Aram, out of the mountains of the east, saying, Come, curse me Jacob, and come, defy Israel.

How shall I curse, whom God hath not cursed? or how shall I defy, whom the LORD hath not defied?

For from the top of the rocks I see him, and from the hills I behold him: lo, the people shall dwell alone, and shall not be reckoned among the nations.

Who can count the dust of Jacob, and the number of the fourth part of Israel? Let me die the death of the righteous, and let my last end be like his!

バラクはバラムに言った．「あなたは私になんということをしたのですか．私の敵をのろってもらうためにあなたを連れて來たのに，今，あなたはただ祝福しただけです．」

バラムは答えて言った．「主が私の口に置かれること，それを私は忠實に語らなければなりません．」

バラクは彼に言った．「では，私といっしょにほかの所へ行ってください．そこから彼らを見ることができるが，ただその一部だけが見え，全體を見ることはできない所です．そこから私のために彼らをのろってください．」

バラクはバラムを，セデ · ツォフィムのピスガの頂に連れて行き，そこで七つの祭壇を築き，それぞれの祭壇の上で雄牛と雄羊とを一頭ずつささげた．

バラムはバラクに言った．「あなたはここであなたの全燒のいけにえのそばに立っていなさい．私はあちらで主にお會いします．」

And Balak said unto Balaam, What hast thou done unto me? I took thee to curse mine enemies, and, behold, thou hast blessed them altogether.

And he answered and said, Must I not take heed to speak that which the LORD hath put in my mouth?

And Balak said unto him, Come, I pray thee, with me unto another place, from whence thou mayest see them: thou shalt see but the utmost part of them, and shalt not see them all: and curse me them from thence.

And he brought him into the field of Zophim, to the top of Pisgah, and built seven altars, and offered a bullock and a ram on every altar.

And he said unto Balak, Stand here by thy burnt offering, while I meet the LORD yonder.

主はバラムに會われ，その口にことばを置き，そして言われた．「バラクのところに歸れ．あなたはこう告げなければならない．」

それで，彼はバラクのところに行った．すると，モアブのつかさたちといっしょに，彼は全燒のいけにえのそばに立っていた．バラクは言った．「主は何とお告げになりましたか．」

バラムは彼のことわざを唱えて言った．「立て，バラクよ．そして聞け．ツィポルの子よ．私に耳を傾けよ．

神は人間ではなく，僞りを言うことがない．人の子ではなく，悔いることがない．神は言われたことを，なさらないだろうか．約束されたことを成し遂げられないだろうか．

見よ．祝福せよ，との命を私は受けた．神は祝福される．私はそれをくつがえすことはできない．

And the LORD met Balaam, and put a word in his mouth, and said, Go again unto Balak, and say thus.

And when he came to him, behold, he stood by his burnt offering, and the princes of Moab with him. And Balak said unto him, What hath the LORD spoken?

And he took up his parable, and said, Rise up, Balak, and hear; hearken unto me, thou son of Zippor:

God is not a man, that he should lie; neither the son of man, that he should repent: hath he said, and shall he not do it? or hath he spoken, and shall he not make it good?

Behold, I have received commandment to bless: and he hath blessed; and I cannot reverse it.

ヤコブの中に不法を見いださず，イスラエルの中にわざわいを見ない．彼らの神，主は彼らとともにおり，王をたたえる聲が彼らの中にある．

彼らをエジプトから連れ出した神は，彼らにとっては野牛の角のようだ．

まことに，ヤコブのうちにまじないはなく，イスラエルのうちに占いはない．神のなされることは，時に應じてヤコブに告げられ，イスラエルに告げられる．

見よ．この民は雌獅子のように起き，雄獅子のように立ち上がり，獲物を食らい，殺したものの血を飮むまでは休まない．」

バラクはバラムに言った．「彼らをのろうことも，祝福することもしないでください．」

He hath not beheld iniquity in Jacob, neither hath he seen perverseness in Israel: the LORD his God is with him, and the shout of a king is among them.

God brought them out of Egypt; he hath as it were the strength of an unicorn.

Surely there is no enchantment against Jacob, neither is there any divination against Israel: according to this time it shall be said of Jacob and of Israel, What hath God wrought!

Behold, the people shall rise up as a great lion, and lift up himself as a young lion: he shall not lie down until he eat of the prey, and drink the blood of the slain.

And Balak said unto Balaam, Neither curse them at all, nor bless them at all.

バラムはバラクに答えて言った．「私は主が告げられたことをみな，しなければならない，とあなたに言ったではありませんか．」

バラクはバラムに言った．「さあ，私はあなたをもう一つ別の所へ連れて行きます．もしかしたら，それが神の御目にかなって，あなたは私のために，そこから彼らをのろうことができるかもしれません．」

バラクはバラムを荒地を見おろすペオルの頂上に連れて行った．

バラムはバラクに言った．「私のためにここに七つの祭壇を築き，七頭の雄牛と七頭の雄羊をここに用意してください．」

バラクはバラムが言ったとおりにして，祭壇ごとに雄牛と雄羊とを一頭ずつささげた．

But Balaam answered and said unto Balak, Told not I thee, saying, All that the LORD speaketh, that I must do?

And Balak said unto Balaam, Come, I pray thee, I will bring thee unto another place; peradventure it will please God that thou mayest curse me them from thence.

And Balak brought Balaam unto the top of Peor, that looketh toward Jeshimon.

And Balaam said unto Balak, Build me here seven altars, and prepare me here seven bullocks and seven rams.

And Balak did as Balaam had said, and offered a bullock and a ram on every altar.
