- イエス は， 耳を 傾けている 民衆にこれらのことばをみな 話し 終えられると， カペナウム にはいられた．
- ところが， ある 百人隊長に 重んじられているひとりのしもべが， 病氣で 死にかけていた．
- 百人隊長は， イエス のことを 聞き， みもとに ユダヤ 人の 長老たちを 送って， しもべを 助けに 來てくださるようお 願いした．
- イエス のもとに 來たその 人たちは， 熱心にお 願いして 言った． 「この 人は， あなたにそうしていただく 資格のある 人です．
- この 人は， 私たちの 國民を 愛し， 私たちのために 會堂を 建ててくれた 人です． 」

- Now when he had ended all his sayings in the audience of the people, he entered into Capernaum.
- And a certain centurion's servant, who was dear unto him, was sick, and ready to die.
- And when he heard of Jesus, he sent unto him the elders of the Jews, beseeching him that he would come and heal his servant.
- And when they came to Jesus, they besought him instantly, saying, That he was worthy for whom he should do this:
- For he loveth our nation, and he hath built us a synagogue.

- イエス は， 彼らといっしょに 行かれた． そして， 百人隊長の 家からあまり 遠くない 所に 來られたとき， 百人隊長は 友人たちを 使いに 出して， イエス に 傳えた． 「主よ． わざわざおいでくださいませんように． あなたを 私の 屋根の 下にお 入れする 資格は， 私にはありません．
- ですから， 私のほうから 伺うことさえ 失禮と 存じました． ただ， おことばをいただかせてください． そうすれば， 私のしもべは 必ずいやされます．
- と 申しますのは， 私も 權威の 下にある 者ですが， 私の 下にも 兵士たちがいまして， そのひとりに『行け． 』と 言えば 行きますし， 別の 者に『來い． 』と 言えば 來ます． また， しもべに『これをせよ． 』と 言えば， そのとおりにいたします． 」
- これを 聞いて， イエス は 驚かれ， ついて 來ていた 群衆のほうに 向いて 言われた． 「あなたがたに 言いますが， このようなりっぱな 信仰は， イスラエル の 中にも 見たことがありません． 」
- 使いに 來た 人たちが 家に 歸ってみると， しもべはよくなっていた．

- Then Jesus went with them. And when he was now not far from the house, the centurion sent friends to him, saying unto him, Lord, trouble not thyself: for I am not worthy that thou shouldest enter under my roof:
- Wherefore neither thought I myself worthy to come unto thee: but say in a word, and my servant shall be healed.
- For I also am a man set under authority, having under me soldiers, and I say unto one, Go, and he goeth; and to another, Come, and he cometh; and to my servant, Do this, and he doeth it.
- When Jesus heard these things, he marvelled at him, and turned him about, and said unto the people that followed him, I say unto you, I have not found so great faith, no, not in Israel.
- And they that were sent, returning to the house, found the servant whole that had been sick.
