- ナオミ には， 夫の 親戚で， エリメレク の 一族に 屬するひとりの 有力者がいた． その 人の 名は ボアズ であった．
- モアブ の 女 ルツ は ナオミ に 言った． 「どうぞ， 畑に 行かせてください． 私に 親切にしてくださる 方のあとについて 落ち 穗を 拾い 集めたいのです． 」すると， ナオミ は 彼女に， 「娘よ． 行っておいで． 」と 言った．
- ルツ は 出かけて 行って， 刈る 人たちのあとについて， 畑で 落ち 穗を 拾い 集めたが， それは， はからずも エリメレク の 一族に 屬する ボアズ の 畑のうちであった．
- ちょうどその 時， ボアズ は ベツレヘム からやって 來て， 刈る 者たちに 言った． 「主があなたがたとともにおられますように． 」彼らは， 「主があなたを 祝福されますように． 」と 答えた．
- ボアズ は 刈る 者たちの 世話をしている 若者に 言った． 「これはだれの 娘か． 」

- And Naomi had a kinsman of her husband's, a mighty man of wealth, of the family of Elimelech; and his name was Boaz.
- And Ruth the Moabitess said unto Naomi, Let me now go to the field, and glean ears of corn after him in whose sight I shall find grace. And she said unto her, Go, my daughter.
- And she went, and came, and gleaned in the field after the reapers: and her hap was to light on a part of the field belonging unto Boaz, who was of the kindred of Elimelech.
- And, behold, Boaz came from Bethlehem, and said unto the reapers, The LORD be with you. And they answered him, The LORD bless thee.
- Then said Boaz unto his servant that was set over the reapers, Whose damsel is this?

- 刈る 者たちの 世話をしている 若者は 答えて 言った． 「あれは， ナオミ といっしょに モアブ の 野から 歸って 來た モアブ の 娘です．
- 彼女は， 『どうぞ， 刈る 人たちのあとについて， 束の 間で， 落ち 穗を 拾い 集めさせてください． 』と 言い， ここに 來て， 朝から 今まで 家で 休みもせず， ずっと 立ち ¿いています． 」
- ボアズ は ルツ に 言った． 「娘さん． よく 聞きなさい． ほかの 畑に 落ち 穗を 拾いに 行ったり， ここから 出て 行ったりしてはいけません． 私のところの 若い 女たちのそばを 離れないで， ここにいなさい．
- 刈り 取っている 畑を 見つけて， あとについて 行きなさい． 私は 若者たちに， あなたのじゃまをしてはならないと， きつく 命じておきました． のどが 渴いたら， 水がめのところへ 行って， 若者たちの 汲んだのを 飮みなさい． 」
- 彼女は 顔を 伏せ， 地面にひれ 伏して 彼に 言った． 「私が 外國人であるのを 知りながら， どうして 親切にしてくださるのですか． 」

- And the servant that was set over the reapers answered and said, It is the Moabitish damsel that came back with Naomi out of the country of Moab:
- And she said, I pray you, let me glean and gather after the reapers among the sheaves: so she came, and hath continued even from the morning until now, that she tarried a little in the house.
- Then said Boaz unto Ruth, Hearest thou not, my daughter? Go not to glean in another field, neither go from hence, but abide here fast by my maidens:
- Let thine eyes be on the field that they do reap, and go thou after them: have I not charged the young men that they shall not touch thee? and when thou art athirst, go unto the vessels, and drink of that which the young men have drawn.
- Then she fell on her face, and bowed herself to the ground, and said unto him, Why have I found grace in thine eyes, that thou shouldest take knowledge of me, seeing I am a stranger?

- ボアズ は 答えて 言った． 「あなたの 夫がなくなってから， あなたがしゅうとめにしたこと， それにあなたの 父母や 生まれた 國を 離れて， これまで 知らなかった 民のところに 來たことについて， 私はすっかり 話を 聞いています．
- 主があなたのしたことに 報いてくださるように． また， あなたがその 翼の 下に 避け 所を 求めて 來た イスラエル の 神， 主から， 豊かな 報いがあるように． 」
- 彼女は 言った． 「ご 主人さま． 私はあなたのご 好意にあずかりとう 存じます． 私はあなたのはしためのひとりでもありませんのに， あなたは 私を 慰め， このはしためにねんごろに 話しかけてくださったからです． 」
- 食事のとき， ボアズ は 彼女に 言った． 「ここに 來て， この パン を 食べ， あなたの パン 切れを 酢に 浸しなさい． 」彼女が 刈る 者たちのそばにすわったので， 彼は ·り 麥を 彼女に 取ってやった． 彼女はそれを 食べ， 十分食べて， 余りを 殘しておいた．
- 彼女が 落ち 穗を 拾い 集めようとして 立ち 上がると， ボアズ は 若者たちに 命じて 言った． 「あの 女には 束の 間でも 穗を 拾い 集めさせなさい． あの 女に 恥ずかしい 思いをさせてはならない．

- And Boaz answered and said unto her, It hath fully been shewed me, all that thou hast done unto thy mother in law since the death of thine husband: and how thou hast left thy father and thy mother, and the land of thy nativity, and art come unto a people which thou knewest not heretofore.
- The LORD recompense thy work, and a full reward be given thee of the LORD God of Israel, under whose wings thou art come to trust.
- Then she said, Let me find favour in thy sight, my lord; for that thou hast comforted me, and for that thou hast spoken friendly unto thine handmaid, though I be not like unto one of thine handmaidens.
- And Boaz said unto her, At mealtime come thou hither, and eat of the bread, and dip thy morsel in the vinegar. And she sat beside the reapers: and he reached her parched corn, and she did eat, and was sufficed, and left.
- And when she was risen up to glean, Boaz commanded his young men, saying, Let her glean even among the sheaves, and reproach her not:

- それだけでなく， あの 女のために， 束からわざと 穗を 拔き 落としておいて， 拾い 集めさせなさい． あの 女をしかってはいけない． 」
- こうして 彼女は， 夕方まで 畑で 落ち 穗を 拾い 集めた． 拾ったのを 打つと， 大麥が 一 エパ ほどあった．
- 彼女はそれを 持って 町に 行き， しゅうとめにその 拾い 集めたのを 見せ， また， 先に 十分食べてから 殘しておいたのを 取り 出して， 彼女に 與えた．
- しゅうとめは 彼女に 言った． 「きょう， どこで 落ち 穗を 拾い 集めたのですか． どこで ¿いたのですか． あなたに 目を 留めてくださった 方に 祝福がありますように． 」彼女はしゅうとめに 自分の ¿いてきた 所のことを 告げ， 「きょう， 私は ボアズ という 名の 人の 所で ¿きました． 」と 言った．
- ナオミ は 嫁に 言った． 「生きている 者にも， 死んだ 者にも， 御惠みを 惜しまれない 主が， その 方を 祝福されますように． 」それから， ナオミ は 彼女に 言った． 「その 方は 私たちの 近親者で， しかも 買い 戾しの 權利のある 私たちの 親類のひとりです． 」

- And let fall also some of the handfuls of purpose for her, and leave them, that she may glean them, and rebuke her not.
- So she gleaned in the field until even, and beat out that she had gleaned: and it was about an ephah of barley.
- And she took it up, and went into the city: and her mother in law saw what she had gleaned: and she brought forth, and gave to her that she had reserved after she was sufficed.
- And her mother in law said unto her, Where hast thou gleaned to day? and where wroughtest thou? blessed be he that did take knowledge of thee. And she shewed her mother in law with whom she had wrought, and said, The man's name with whom I wrought to day is Boaz.
- And Naomi said unto her daughter in law, Blessed be he of the LORD, who hath not left off his kindness to the living and to the dead. And Naomi said unto her, The man is near of kin unto us, one of our next kinsmen.

- モアブ の 女 ルツ は 言った． 「その 方はまた， 『私のところの 刈り 入れが 全部終わるまで， 私の 若者たちのそばを 離れてはいけない． 』と 私におっしゃいました． 」
- ナオミ は 嫁の ルツ に 言った． 「娘よ． あの 方のところの 若い 女たちといっしょに 出かけるのは， けっこうなことです． ほかの 畑でいじめられなくても 濟みます． 」
- それで， 彼女は ボアズ のところの 若い 女たちのそばを 離れないで， 大麥の 刈り 入れと 小麥の 刈り 入れの 終わるまで， 落ち 穗を 拾い 集めた． こうして， 彼女はしゅうとめと 暮らした．

- And Ruth the Moabitess said, He said unto me also, Thou shalt keep fast by my young men, until they have ended all my harvest.
- And Naomi said unto Ruth her daughter in law, It is good, my daughter, that thou go out with his maidens, that they meet thee not in any other field.
- So she kept fast by the maidens of Boaz to glean unto the end of barley harvest and of wheat harvest; and dwelt with her mother in law.
