- 夜が 明けると， ユダヤ 人たちは 徒黨を 組み， パウロ を 殺してしまうまでは 飮み 食いしないと 誓い 合った．
- この 陰謀に 加わった 者は， 四十人以上であった．
- 彼らは， 祭司長たち， 長老たちのところに 行って， こう 言った． 「私たちは， パウロ を 殺すまでは 何も 食べない， と 堅く 誓い 合いました．
- そこで， 今あなたがたは 議會と 組んで， パウロ のことをもっと 詳しく 調べるふりをして， 彼をあなたがたのところに 連れて 來るように 千人隊長に 願い 出てください． 私たちのほうでは， 彼がそこに 近づく 前に 殺す 手はずにしています． 」
- ところが， パウロ の 姉妹の 子が， この 待ち 伏せのことを 耳にし， 兵營にはいって パウロ にそれを 知らせた．

- And when it was day, certain of the Jews banded together, and bound themselves under a curse, saying that they would neither eat nor drink till they had killed Paul.
- And they were more than forty which had made this conspiracy.
- And they came to the chief priests and elders, and said, We have bound ourselves under a great curse, that we will eat nothing until we have slain Paul.
- Now therefore ye with the council signify to the chief captain that he bring him down unto you to morrow, as though ye would enquire something more perfectly concerning him: and we, or ever he come near, are ready to kill him.
- And when Paul's sister's son heard of their lying in wait, he went and entered into the castle, and told Paul.

- そこで パウロ は， 百人隊長のひとりを 呼んで， 「この 靑年を 千人隊長のところに 連れて 行ってください． お 傳えすることがありますから． 」と 言った．
- 百人隊長は， 彼を 連れて 千人隊長のもとに 行き， 「囚人の パウロ が 私を 呼んで， この 靑年があなたにお 話しすることがあるので， あなたのところに 連れて 行くようにと 賴みました． 」と 言った．
- 千人隊長は 彼の 手を 取り， だれもいない 所に 連れて 行って， 「私に 傳えたいことというのは 何か． 」と 尋ねた．
- すると 彼はこう 言った． 「ユダヤ 人たちは， パウロ についてもっと 詳しく 調べようとしているかに 見せかけて， あす， 議會に パウロ を 連れて 來てくださるように， あなたにお 願いすることを 申し 合わせました．
- どうか， 彼らの 願いを 聞き 入れないでください． 四十人以上の 者が， パウロ を 殺すまでは 飮み 食いしない， と 誓い 合って， 彼を 待ち 伏せしているのです． 今， 彼らは 手はずを 整えて， あなたの 承諾を 待っています． 」

- Then Paul called one of the centurions unto him, and said, Bring this young man unto the chief captain: for he hath a certain thing to tell him.
- So he took him, and brought him to the chief captain, and said, Paul the prisoner called me unto him, and prayed me to bring this young man unto thee, who hath something to say unto thee.
- Then the chief captain took him by the hand, and went with him aside privately, and asked him, What is that thou hast to tell me?
- And he said, The Jews have agreed to desire thee that thou wouldest bring down Paul to morrow into the council, as though they would enquire somewhat of him more perfectly.
- But do not thou yield unto them: for there lie in wait for him of them more than forty men, which have bound themselves with an oath, that they will neither eat nor drink till they have killed him: and now are they ready, looking for a promise from thee.

- そこで 千人隊長は， 「このことを 私に 知らせたことは， だれにも 漏らすな． 」と 命じて， その 靑年を 歸らせた．
- そしてふたりの 百人隊長を 呼び， 「今夜九時， カイザリヤ に 向けて 出發できるように， 步兵二百人， 騎兵七十人， 槍兵二百人を 整えよ． 」と 言いつけた．
- また， パウロ を 乘せて 無事に 總督 ペリクス のもとに 送り 屆けるように， 馬の 用意もさせた．
- そして， 次のような 文面の 手紙を 書いた．
- 「クラウデオ · ルシヤ ， つつしんで 總督 ペリクス 閣下にごあいさつ 申し 上げます．

- So the chief captain then let the young man depart, and charged him, See thou tell no man that thou hast shewed these things to me.
- And he called unto him two centurions, saying, Make ready two hundred soldiers to go to Caesarea, and horsemen threescore and ten, and spearmen two hundred, at the third hour of the night;
- And provide them beasts, that they may set Paul on, and bring him safe unto Felix the governor.
- And he wrote a letter after this manner:
- Claudius Lysias unto the most excellent governor Felix sendeth greeting.

- この 者が， ユダヤ 人に 捕えられ， まさに 殺されようとしていたとき， 彼が ロ ― マ 市民であることを 知りましたので， 私は 兵隊を 率いて 行って， 彼を 助け 出しました．
- それから， どんな 理由で 彼が 訴えられたかを 知ろうと 思い， 彼を ユダヤ 人の 議會に 出頭させました．
- その 結果， 彼が 訴えられているのは， ユダヤ 人の 律法に 關する 問題のためで， 死刑や 投獄に 當たる 罪はないことがわかりました．
- しかし， この 者に 對する 陰謀があるという 情報を 得ましたので， 私はただちに 彼を 閣下のもとにお 送りし， 訴える 者たちには， 閣下の 前で 彼のことを 訴えるようにと 言い 渡しておきました． 」
- そこで 兵士たちは， 命じられたとおりに パウロ を 引き 取り， 夜中に アンテパトリス まで 連れて 行き，

- This man was taken of the Jews, and should have been killed of them: then came I with an army, and rescued him, having understood that he was a Roman.
- And when I would have known the cause wherefore they accused him, I brought him forth into their council:
- Whom I perceived to be accused of questions of their law, but to have nothing laid to his charge worthy of death or of bonds.
- And when it was told me how that the Jews laid wait for the man, I sent straightway to thee, and gave commandment to his accusers also to say before thee what they had against him. Farewell.
- Then the soldiers, as it was commanded them, took Paul, and brought him by night to Antipatris.

- 翌日， 騎兵たちに パウロ の 護送を 任せて， 兵營に 歸った．
- 騎兵たちは， カイザリヤ に 着き， 總督に 手紙を 手渡して， パウロ を 引き 合わせた．
- 總督は 手紙を 讀んでから， パウロ に， どの 州の 者かと 尋ね， キリキヤ の 出であることを 知って，
- 「あなたを 訴える 者が 來てから， よく 聞くことにしよう． 」と 言った． そして， ヘロデ の 官邸に 彼を 守っておくように 命じた．

- On the morrow they left the horsemen to go with him, and returned to the castle:
- Who, when they came to Caesarea and delivered the epistle to the governor, presented Paul also before him.
- And when the governor had read the letter, he asked of what province he was. And when he understood that he was of Cilicia;
- I will hear thee, said he, when thine accusers are also come. And he commanded him to be kept in Herod's judgment hall.
