- この 地上には 小さいものが 四つある． しかし， それは 知惠者中の 知惠者だ．
- 蟻は 力のない 種族だが， 夏のうちに 食糧を 確保する．
- 岩だぬきは 强くない 種族だが， その 巢を 岩間に 設ける．
- いなごには 王はないが， みな 隊を 組んで 出て 行く．
- やもりは 手でつかまえることができるが， 王の 宮殿にいる．

- There be four things which are little upon the earth, but they are exceeding wise:
- The ants are a people not strong, yet they prepare their meat in the summer;
- The conies are but a feeble folk, yet make they their houses in the rocks;
- The locusts have no king, yet go they forth all of them by bands;
- The spider taketh hold with her hands, and is in kings' palaces.

- 步きぶりの 堂¿としているものが 三つある． いや， その 步みの 堂¿としているものが 四つある．
- ¿のうちで 最も 强く， 何ものからも 退かない 雄獅子，
- いばって 步くおんどりと， 雄やぎ， 軍隊を 率いる 王である．
- もし， あなたが 高ぶって， 愚かなことをしたり， たくらんだりしたら， 手を 口に 當てよ．
- 乳をかき 回すと 凝乳ができる． 鼻をねじると 血が 出る． 怒りをかき 回すと 爭いが 起こる．

- There be three things which go well, yea, four are comely in going:
- A lion which is strongest among beasts, and turneth not away for any;
- A greyhound; an he goat also; and a king, against whom there is no rising up.
- If thou hast done foolishly in lifting up thyself, or if thou hast thought evil, lay thine hand upon thy mouth.
- Surely the churning of milk bringeth forth butter, and the wringing of the nose bringeth forth blood: so the forcing of wrath bringeth forth strife.
