- さて， カイザリヤ に コルネリオ という 人がいて， イタリヤ 隊という 部隊の 百人隊長であった．
- 彼は 敬 ·な 人で， 全家族とともに 神を 恐れかしこみ， ユダヤ の 人¿に 多くの 施しをなし， いつも 神に 祈りをしていたが，
- ある 日の 午後三時ごろ， 幻の 中で， はっきりと 神の 御使いを 見た． 御使いは 彼のところに 來て， 「コルネリオ ． 」と 呼んだ．
- 彼は， 御使いを 見つめていると， 恐ろしくなって， 「主よ． 何でしょうか． 」と 答えた． すると 御使いはこう 言った． 「あなたの 祈りと 施しは 神の 前に 立ち 上って， 覺えられています．
- さあ 今， ヨッパ に 人をやって， シモン とう 人を 招きなさい． 彼の 名は ペテロ とも 呼ばれています．

- Now there was a man at Caesarea named Cornelius, a centurion of what was called the Italian cohort,
- a devout man and one who feared God with all his household, and gave many alms to the Jewish people and prayed to God continually.
- About the ninth hour of the day he clearly saw in a vision an angel of God who had just come in and said to him, "Cornelius!"
- And fixing his gaze on him and being much alarmed, he said, "What is it, Lord?" And he said to him, "Your prayers and alms have ascended as a memorial before God.
- "Now dispatch some men to Joppa and send for a man named Simon, who is also called Peter;

- この 人は 皮なめしの シモン という 人の 家に 泊まっていますが， その 家は 海べにあります． 」
- 御使いが 彼にこう 語って 立ち 去ると， コルネリオ はそのしもべたちの 中のふたりと， 側近の 部下の 中の 敬 ·な 兵士ひとりとを 呼び 寄せ，
- 全部のことを 說明してから， 彼らを ヨッパ へ 遣わした．
- その 翌日， この 人たちが 旅を 續けて， 町の 近くまで 來たころ， ペテロ は 祈りをするために 屋上に 上った． ¿の 十二時頃であった．
- すると 彼は 非常に 空腹を 覺え， 食事をしたくなった． ところが， 食事の 用意がされている 間に， 彼はうっとりと 夢ごこちになった．

- he is staying with a tanner named Simon, whose house is by the sea."
- When the angel who was speaking to him had left, he summoned two of his servants and a devout soldier of those who were his personal attendants,
- and after he had explained everything to them, he sent them to Joppa.
- On the next day, as they were on their way and approaching the city, Peter went up on the housetop about the sixth hour to pray.
- But he became hungry and was desiring to eat; but while they were making preparations, he fell into a trance;

- 見ると， 天が 開けており， 大きな 敷布のような 入れ 物が， 四隅をつるされて 地上に 降りて 來た．
- その 中には， 地上のあらゆる 種類の 四つ 足の 動物や， はうもの， また， 空の 鳥などがいた．
- そして， 彼に， 「ペテロ ． さあ， ほふって 食べなさい． 」という 聲が 聞こえた．
- しかし ペテロ は 言った． 「主よ． それはできません． 私はまだ 一度も， きよくない 物や 汚れた 物を 食べたことがありません． 」
- すると， 再び 聲があって， 彼にこう 言った． 「神がきよめた 物を， きよくないと 言ってはならない． 」

- and he saw the sky opened up, and an object like a great sheet coming down, lowered by four corners to the ground,
- and there were in it all kinds of four-footed animals and crawling creatures of the earth and birds of the air.
- A voice came to him, "Get up, Peter, kill and eat!"
- But Peter said, "By no means, Lord, for I have never eaten anything unholy and unclean."
- Again a voice came to him a second time, "What God has cleansed, no longer consider unholy."

- こんなことが 三回あって 後， その 入れ 物はすぐ 天に 引き 上げられた．
- ペテロ が， いま 見た 幻はいったいどういうことだろう， と 思い 惑っていると， ちょうどそのとき， コルネリオ から 遣わされた 人たちが， シモン の 家をたずね 當てて， その 門口に 立っていた．
- そして， 聲をかけて， ペテロ と 呼ばれる シモン という 人がここに 泊まっているだろうかと 尋ねていた．
- ペテロ が 幻について 思い 巡らしているとき， 御靈が 彼にこう 言われた． 「見なさい． 三人の 人があなたをたずねて 來ています．
- さあ， 下に 降りて 行って， ためらわずに， 彼らといっしょに 行きなさい． 彼らを 遣わしたのはわたしです． 」

- This happened three times, and immediately the object was taken up into the sky.
- Now while Peter was greatly perplexed in mind as to what the vision which he had seen might be, behold, the men who had been sent by Cornelius, having asked directions for Simon's house, appeared at the gate;
- and calling out, they were asking whether Simon, who was also called Peter, was staying there.
- While Peter was reflecting on the vision, the Spirit said to him, "Behold, three men are looking for you.
- "But get up, go downstairs and accompany them without misgivings, for I have sent them Myself."

- そこで ペテロ は， その 人たちのところへ 降りて 行って， こう 言った． 「あなたがたのたずねている ペテロ は， 私です． どんなご 用でおいでになったのですか． 」
- すると 彼らはこう 言った． 「百人隊長 コルネリオ という 正しい 人で， 神を 恐れかしこみ， ユダヤ の 全國民に 評判の 良い 人が， あなたを 自分の 家にお 招きして， あなたからお 話を 聞くように， 聖なる 御使いによって 示されました． 」
- それで， ペテロ は， 彼らを 中に 入れて 泊まらせた． 明くる 日， ペテロ は， 立って 彼らといっしょに 出かけた． ヨッパ の 兄弟たちも 數人同行した．

- Peter went down to the men and said, "Behold, I am the one you are looking for; what is the reason for which you have come?"
- They said, "Cornelius, a centurion, a righteous and God-fearing man well spoken of by the entire nation of the Jews, was divinely directed by a holy angel to send for you to come to his house and hear a message from you."
- So he invited them in and gave them lodging. And on the next day he got up and went away with them, and some of the brethren from Joppa accompanied him.
