에스더

  본서는 아하수에로 왕의 통치 기간중 포로 귀환에 참여하지 않고 바사에 있던 유대 포로민들을 배경으로 에스더라는 한 지혜로운 유대 여인을 통하여 하나님께서 이스라엘 백성들을 대적자들의 위협에서 어떻게 보호하셨는가를 밝히고 있다.

  왕후 와스디가 폐위된 후, 새로운 왕후로 간택된 에스더의 사촌 모르드개는 왕의 암살 음모를 사전에 알고 왕의 생명을 구하였다. 왕의 신임을 받던 하만은 자신에게 절하지 않은 모르드개에게 분개하여 유대 민족을 멸절시킬 것을 계획한다. 이에 에스더는 목숨을 내걸고 왕께 간청하게 되고, 모르드개의 업적과 하만의 계락이 드러나 하만은 처형되고 유대인의 승리 속에 부림절 축제가 거행된다.

 

 

에스더 1:1-2:23

 아하수에로 왕의 잔치에서 왕후 와스디는 왕의 명령을 거부함으로써 폐위되었다. 그리고 새 왕후로 에스더가 간택되었다. 모르드개는 왕을 모살하려는 두 내시의 음모를 에스더를 통해 보고하였고, 그의 이름은 궁중 일기에 기록되었다.
  
  와스디의 폐위(1:1-1:22)    
 
  1. アハシュエロス の 時代のこと ··この アハシュエロス は， ホド から クシュ まで 百二十七州を 治めていた． ··
  2. アハシュエロス 王が シュシャン の 城で， 王座に 着いていたころ，
  3. その 治世の 第三年に， 彼はすべての 首長と 家臣たちのために 宴會を 催した． それには ペルシヤ と メディヤ の 有力者， 貴族たちおよび 諸州の 首長たちが 出席した．
  4. そのとき， 王は 輝かしい 王國の 富と， そのきらびやかな 榮譽を 幾日も 示して， 百八十日に 及んだ．
  5. この 期間が 終わると， 王は， シュシャン の 城にいた 身分の 高い 者から 低い 者に 至るまですべての 民のために， 七日間， 王宮の 園の 庭で， 宴會を 催した．
  1. Now it took place in the days of Ahasuerus, the Ahasuerus who reigned from India to Ethiopia over 127 provinces,
  2. in those days as King Ahasuerus sat on his royal throne which was at the citadel in Susa,
  3. in the third year of his reign he gave a banquet for all his princes and attendants, the army officers of Persia and Media, the nobles and the princes of his provinces being in his presence.
  4. And he displayed the riches of his royal glory and the splendor of his great majesty for many days, 180 days.
  5. When these days were completed, the king gave a banquet lasting seven days for all the people who were present at the citadel in Susa, from the greatest to the least, in the court of the garden of the king's palace.
  1. そこには 白綿布や 靑色の 布が， 白や 紫色の 細ひもで 大理石の 柱の 銀の 輪に 結びつけられ， 金と 銀でできた 長いすが， 綠色石， 白大理石， 眞珠貝や 黑大理石の モザイク の 床の 上に 置かれていた．
  2. 彼は 金の 杯で 酒をふるまったが， その 杯は 一つ 一つ 違っていた． そして 王の 勢力にふさわしく 王室の 酒がたくさんあった．
  3. それを 飮むとき， 法令によって， だれも 强いられなかった． だれでもめいめい 自分の 好みのままにするようにと， 王が 宮殿のすべての 役人に 命じておいたからである．
  4. 王妃 ワシュティ も， アハシュエロス 王の 王宮で 婦人たちのために 宴會を 催した．
  5. 七日目に， 王は 酒で 心が 陽氣になり， アハシュエロス 王に 仕える 七人の 宦官 メフマン ， ビゼタ ， ハルボナ ， ビグタ ， アバグタ ， ゼタル ， カルカス に 命じて，
  1. There were hangings of fine white and violet linen held by cords of fine purple linen on silver rings and marble columns, and couches of gold and silver on a mosaic pavement of porphyry, marble, mother-of-pearl and precious stones.
  2. Drinks were served in golden vessels of various kinds, and the royal wine was plentiful according to the king's bounty.
  3. The drinking was done according to the law, there was no compulsion, for so the king had given orders to each official of his household that he should do according to the desires of each person.
  4. Queen Vashti also gave a banquet for the women in the palace which belonged to King Ahasuerus.
  5. On the seventh day, when the heart of the king was merry with wine, he commanded Mehuman, Biztha, Harbona, Bigtha, Abagtha, Zethar and Carkas, the seven eunuchs who served in the presence of King Ahasuerus,
  1. 王妃 ワシュティ に 王冠をかぶらせ， 彼女を 王の 前に 連れて 來るようにと 言った． それは， 彼女の 容姿が 美しかったので， その 美しさを 民と 首長たちに 見せるためであった．
  2. しかし， 王妃 ワシュティ が 宦官から 傳えられた 王の 命令を 拒んで 來ようとしなかったので， 王は 非常に 怒り， その 憤りが 彼のうちで 燃え 立った．
  3. そこで 王は 法令に 詳しい， 知惠のある 者たちに 相談した． ··このように， 法令と 裁判に 詳しいすべての 者に 計るのが， 王のならわしであった．
  4. 王の 側近の 者は ペルシヤ と メディヤ の 七人の 首長たち カルシェナ ， シェタル ， アデマタ ， タルシシュ ， メレス ， マルセナ ， メムカン で， 彼らは 王と 面接ができ， 王國の 最高の 地位についていた． ··
  5. 「王妃 ワシュティ は， 宦官によって 傳えられた アハシュエロス 王の 命令に 從わなかったが， 法令により， 彼女をどう 處分すべきだろうか． 」
  1. to bring Queen Vashti before the king with her royal crown in order to display her beauty to the people and the princes, for she was beautiful.
  2. But Queen Vashti refused to come at the king's command delivered by the eunuchs. Then the king became very angry and his wrath burned within him.
  3. Then the king said to the wise men who understood the times--for it was the custom of the king so to speak before all who knew law and justice
  4. and were close to him: Carshena, Shethar, Admatha, Tarshish, Meres, Marsena and Memucan, the seven princes of Persia and Media who had access to the king's presence and sat in the first place in the kingdom--
  5. "According to law, what is to be done with Queen Vashti, because she did not obey the command of King Ahasuerus delivered by the eunuchs?"
  1. メムカン は 王と 首長たちの 前で 答えた． 「王妃 ワシュティ は 王ひとりにではなく， すべての 首長と アハシュエロス 王のすべての 州の 全住民にも 惡いことをしました．
  2. なぜなら， 王妃の 行ないが 女たちみなに 知れ 渡り， 『アハシュエロス 王が 王妃 ワシュティ に 王の 前に 來るようにと 命じたが， 來なかった． 』と 言って， 女たちは 自分の 夫を 輕く 見るようになるでしょう．
  3. きょうにでも， 王妃のことを 聞いた ペルシヤ と メディヤ の 首長の 夫人たちは， 王のすべての 首長たちに， このことを 言って， ひどい 輕蔑と 怒りが 起こることでしょう．
  4. もしも 王によろしければ， ワシュティ は アハシュエロス 王の 前に 出てはならないという 勅令をご 自身で 出し， ペルシヤ と メディヤ の 法令の 中に 書き 入れて， 變更することのないようにし， 王は 王妃の 位を 彼女よりもすぐれた 婦人に 授けてください．
  5. 王が 出される 詔勅が， この 大きな 王國の 隅¿まで 告げ 知らされると， 女たちは， 身分の 高い 者から 低い 者に 至るまでみな， 自分の 夫を 尊敬するようになりましょう． 」
  1. In the presence of the king and the princes, Memucan said, "Queen Vashti has wronged not only the king but also all the princes and all the peoples who are in all the provinces of King Ahasuerus.
  2. "For the queen's conduct will become known to all the women causing them to look with contempt on their husbands by saying, 'King Ahasuerus commanded Queen Vashti to be brought in to his presence, but she did not come.'
  3. "This day the ladies of Persia and Media who have heard of the queen's conduct will speak in the same way to all the king's princes, and there will be plenty of contempt and anger.
  4. "If it pleases the king, let a royal edict be issued by him and let it be written in the laws of Persia and Media so that it cannot be repealed, that Vashti may no longer come into the presence of King Ahasuerus, and let the king give her royal position to another who is more worthy than she.
  5. "When the king's edict which he will make is heard throughout all his kingdom, great as it is, then all women will give honor to their husbands, great and small."
  1. この 進言は， 王と 首長たちの 心にかなったので， 王は メムカン の 言ったとおりにした．
  2. そこで 王は， 王のすべての 州に 書簡を 送った． 各州にはその 文字で， 各民族にはそのことばで 書簡を 送り， 男子はみな， 一家の 主人となること， また， 自分の 民族のことばで 話すことを 命じた．
  1. This word pleased the king and the princes, and the king did as Memucan proposed.
  2. So he sent letters to all the king's provinces, to each province according to its script and to every people according to their language, that every man should be the master in his own house and the one who speaks in the language of his own people.
 
  왕후로 뽑힌 에스더(2:1-2:23)    
 
  1. この 出來事の 後， アハシュエロス 王の 憤りがおさまると， 王は， ワシュティ のこと， 彼女のしたこと， また， 彼女に 對して 決められたことを 思い 出した．
  2. そのとき， 王に 仕える 若い 者たちは 言った． 「王のために 容姿の 美しい 未婚の 娘たちを 搜しましょう．
  3. 王は， 王國のすべての 州に 役人を 任命し， 容姿の 美しい 未婚の 娘たちをみな， シュシャン の 城の 婦人部屋に 集めさせ， 女たちの 監督官である 王の 宦官 ヘガイ の 管理のもとに 置き， 化粧に 必要な 品¿を 彼女たちに 與えるようにしてください．
  4. そして， 王のお 心にかなうおとめを ワシュティ の 代わりに 王妃としてください． 」このことは 王の 心にかなったので， 彼はそのようにした．
  5. シュシャン の 城にひとりの ユダヤ 人がいた． その 名を モルデカイ といって， ベニヤミン 人 キシュ の 子 シムイ の 子 ヤイル の 子であった．
  1. After these things when the anger of King Ahasuerus had subsided, he remembered Vashti and what she had done and what had been decreed against her.
  2. Then the king's attendants, who served him, said, "Let beautiful young virgins be sought for the king.
  3. "Let the king appoint overseers in all the provinces of his kingdom that they may gather every beautiful young virgin to the citadel of Susa, to the harem, into the custody of Hegai, the king's eunuch, who is in charge of the women; and let their cosmetics be given them.
  4. "Then let the young lady who pleases the king be queen in place of Vashti." And the matter pleased the king, and he did accordingly.
  5. Now there was at the citadel in Susa a Jew whose name was Mordecai, the son of Jair, the son of Shimei, the son of Kish, a Benjamite,
  1. この キシュ は， バビロン の 王 ネブカデネザル が 捕え 移した ユダ の 王 エコヌヤ といっしょに 捕え 移された 捕囚の 民とともに， エルサレム から 捕え 移された 者であった．
  2. モルデカイ はおじの 娘 ハダサ ， すなわち， エステル を 養育していた． 彼女には 父も 母もいなかったからである． このおとめは， 姿も 顔だちも 美しかった． 彼女の 父と 母が 死んだとき， モルデカイ は 彼女を 引き 取って 自分の 娘としたのである．
  3. 王の 命令， すなわちその 法令が 傳えられて， 多くのおとめたちが シュシャン の 城に 集められ， ヘガイ の 管理のもとに 置かれたとき， エステル も 王宮に 連れて 行かれて， 女たちの 監督官 ヘガイ の 管理のもとに 置かれた．
  4. このおとめは， ヘガイ の 心にかない， 彼の 好意を 得た． そこで， 彼は 急いで 化粧に 必要な 品¿とごちそうを 彼女に 與え， また 王宮から 選ばれた 七人の 侍女を 彼女にあてがった． そして， ヘガイ は 彼女とその 侍女たちを， 婦人部屋の 最も 良い 所に 移した．
  5. エステル は 自分の 民族をも， 自分の 生まれをも 明かさなかった． モルデカイ が， 明かしてはならないと 彼女に 命じておいたからである．
  1. who had been taken into exile from Jerusalem with the captives who had been exiled with Jeconiah king of Judah, whom Nebuchadnezzar the king of Babylon had exiled.
  2. He was bringing up Hadassah, that is Esther, his uncle's daughter, for she had no father or mother. Now the young lady was beautiful of form and face, and when her father and her mother died, Mordecai took her as his own daughter.
  3. So it came about when the command and decree of the king were heard and many young ladies were gathered to the citadel of Susa into the custody of Hegai, that Esther was taken to the king's palace into the custody of Hegai, who was in charge of the women.
  4. Now the young lady pleased him and found favor with him. So he quickly provided her with her cosmetics and food, gave her seven choice maids from the king's palace and transferred her and her maids to the best place in the harem.
  5. Esther did not make known her people or her kindred, for Mordecai had instructed her that she should not make them known.
  1. モルデカイ は 每日婦人部屋の 庭の 前を 步き 回り， エステル の 安否と， 彼女がどうされるかを 知ろうとしていた．
  2. おとめたちは， 婦人の 規則に 從って， 十二か 月の 期間が 終わって 後， ひとりずつ 順番に アハシュエロス 王のところに， はいって 行くことになっていた． これは， 準備の 期間が， 六か 月は ¿藥の 油で， 次の 六か 月は 香料と 婦人の 化粧に 必要な 品¿で 化粧することで 終わることになっていたからである．
  3. このようにして， おとめが 王のところにはいって 行くとき， おとめの 願うものはみな 與えられ， それを 持って 婦人部屋から 王宮に 行くことができた．
  4. おとめは 夕方はいって 行き， 朝になると， ほかの 婦人部屋に 歸っていた． そこは， そばめたちの 監督官である 王の 宦官 シャアシュガズ の 管理のもとにあった． そこの 女は， 王の 氣に 入り， 指名されるのでなければ， 二度と 王のところには 行けなかった．
  5. さて， モルデカイ が 引き 取って， 自分の 娘とした 彼のおじ アビハイル の 娘 エステル が， 王のところにはいって 行く 順番が 來たとき， 彼女は 女たちの 監督官である 王の 宦官 ヘガイ の 勸めたもののほかは， 何一つ 求めなかった． こうして エステル は， 彼女を 見るすべての 者から 好意を 受けていた．
  1. Every day Mordecai walked back and forth in front of the court of the harem to learn how Esther was and how she fared.
  2. Now when the turn of each young lady came to go in to King Ahasuerus, after the end of her twelve months under the regulations for the women--for the days of their beautification were completed as follows: six months with oil of myrrh and six months with spices and the cosmetics for women--
  3. the young lady would go in to the king in this way: anything that she desired was given her to take with her from the harem to the king's palace.
  4. In the evening she would go in and in the morning she would return to the second harem, to the custody of Shaashgaz, the king's eunuch who was in charge of the concubines. She would not again go in to the king unless the king delighted in her and she was summoned by name.
  5. Now when the turn of Esther, the daughter of Abihail the uncle of Mordecai who had taken her as his daughter, came to go in to the king, she did not request anything except what Hegai, the king's eunuch who was in charge of the women, advised. And Esther found favor in the eyes of all who saw her.
  1. エステル が アハシュエロス 王の 王宮に 召されたのは， 王の 治世の 第七年の 第十の 月， すなわち テベテ の 月であった．
  2. 王はほかのどの 女たちよりも エステル を 愛した． このため， 彼女はどの 娘たちよりも 王の 好意と 惠みを 受けた． こうして， 王はついに 王冠を 彼女の 頭に 置き， ワシュティ の 代わりに 彼女を 王妃とした．
  3. それから， 王はすべての 首長と 家臣たちの 大宴會， すなわち， エステル の 宴會を 催し， 諸州には 休日を 與えて， 王の 勢力にふさわしい 贈り 物を 配った．
  4. 娘たちが 二度目に 集められたとき， モルデカイ は 王の 門のところにすわっていた．
  5. エステル は， モルデカイ が 彼女に 命じていたように， まだ 自分の 生まれをも， 自分の 民族をも 明かしていなかった． エステル は モルデカイ に 養育されていた 時と 同じように， 彼の 言いつけに 從っていた．
  1. So Esther was taken to King Ahasuerus to his royal palace in the tenth month which is the month Tebeth, in the seventh year of his reign.
  2. The king loved Esther more than all the women, and she found favor and kindness with him more than all the virgins, so that he set the royal crown on her head and made her queen instead of Vashti.
  3. Then the king gave a great banquet, Esther's banquet, for all his princes and his servants; he also made a holiday for the provinces and gave gifts according to the king's bounty.
  4. When the virgins were gathered together the second time, then Mordecai was sitting at the king's gate.
  5. Esther had not yet made known her kindred or her people, even as Mordecai had commanded her; for Esther did what Mordecai told her as she had done when under his care.
  1. そのころ， モルデカイ が 王の 門のところにすわっていると， 入口を 守っていた 王のふたりの 宦官 ビグタン と テレシュ が 怒って， アハシュエロス 王を 殺そうとしていた．
  2. このことが モルデカイ に 知れたので， 彼はこれを 王妃 エステル に 知らせた． エステル はこれを モルデカイ の 名で 王に 告げた．
  3. このことが 追及されて， その 事實が 明らかになったので， 彼らふたりは 木にかけられた． このことは 王の 前で 年代記の 書に 記錄された．
  1. In those days, while Mordecai was sitting at the king's gate, Bigthan and Teresh, two of the king's officials from those who guarded the door, became angry and sought to lay hands on King Ahasuerus.
  2. But the plot became known to Mordecai and he told Queen Esther, and Esther informed the king in Mordecai's name.
  3. Now when the plot was investigated and found to be so, they were both hanged on a gallows; and it was written in the Book of the Chronicles in the king's presence.
