	창세기 3:1-4:26 여자가 뱀의 유혹을 받아 하나님께서 금하신 선악을 알게 하는 나무의 실과를 먹고 아담에게도 먹게 하였다. 이를 아신 하나님께서는 뱀과 여자와 아담에게 저주와 고통과 죽음을 선언하셨다. 에덴 동산에서 쫓겨난 아담과 하와는 가인과 아벨을 낳았다. 이들이 장성하여 하나님께 제물을 드렸는데, 하나님께서 아벨의 제물만 열납하시자 이를 본 가인은 아벨을 죽이고 놋 땅에 거했다.

	인간의 타락(3:1-3:24)

Now the serpent was more crafty than any beast of the field which the LORD God had made. And he said to the woman, "Indeed, has God said, 'You shall not eat from any tree of the garden'?"

The woman said to the serpent, "From the fruit of the trees of the garden we may eat;

but from the fruit of the tree which is in the middle of the garden, God has said, 'You shall not eat from it or touch it, or you will die.'"

The serpent said to the woman, "You surely will not die!

"For God knows that in the day you eat from it your eyes will be opened, and you will be like God, knowing good and evil."

야훼 하느님께서 만드신 들짐승 가운데 제일 간교한 것이 뱀이었다. 그 뱀이 여자에게 물었다. "하느님이 너희더러 이 동산에 있는 나무 열매는 하나도 따먹지 말라고 하셨다는데 그것이 정말이냐?"

여자가 뱀에게 대답하였다. "아니다. 하느님께서는 이 동산에 있는 나무 열매는 무엇이든지 마음대로 따먹되,

죽지 않으려거든 이 동산 한가운데 있는 나무 열매만은 따먹지도 말고 만지지도 말라고 하셨다."

그러자 뱀이 여자를 꾀었다. "절대로 죽지 않는다.

그 나무 열매를 따먹기만 하면 너희의 눈이 밝아져서 하느님처럼 선과 악을 알게 될 줄을 하느님이 아시고 그렇게 말하신 것이다."

When the woman saw that the tree was good for food, and that it was a delight to the eyes, and that the tree was desirable to make one wise, she took from its fruit and ate; and she gave also to her husband with her, and he ate.

Then the eyes of both of them were opened, and they knew that they were naked; and they sewed fig leaves together and made themselves loin coverings.

They heard the sound of the LORD God walking in the garden in the cool of the day, and the man and his wife hid themselves from the presence of the LORD God among the trees of the garden.

Then the LORD God called to the man, and said to him, "Where are you?"

He said, "I heard the sound of You in the garden, and I was afraid because I was naked; so I hid myself."

여자가 그 나무를 쳐다보니 과연 먹음직하고 보기에 탐스러울 뿐더러 사람을 영리하게 해줄 것 같아서, 그 열매를 따먹고 같이 사는 남편에게도 따주었다. 남편도 받아먹었다.

그러자 두 사람은 눈이 밝아져 자기들이 알몸인 것을 알고 무화과나무 잎을 엮어 앞을 가렸다.

날이 저물어 선들바람이 불 때 야훼 하느님께서 동산을 거니시는 소리를 듣고 아담과 그의 아내는 야훼 하느님 눈에 뜨이지 않게 동산 나무 사이에 숨었다.

야훼 하느님께서 아담을 부르셨다. "너 어디 있느냐?"

아담이 대답하였다. "당신께서 동산을 거니시는 소리를 듣고 알몸을 드러내기가 두려워 숨었습니다."

And He said, "Who told you that you were naked? Have you eaten from the tree of which I commanded you not to eat?"

The man said, "The woman whom You gave to be with me, she gave me from the tree, and I ate."

Then the LORD God said to the woman, "What is this you have done?" And the woman said, "The serpent deceived me, and I ate."

The LORD God said to the serpent, "Because you have done this, Cursed are you more than all cattle, And more than every beast of the field; On your belly you will go, And dust you will eat All the days of your life;

And I will put enmity Between you and the woman, And between your seed and her seed; He shall bruise you on the head, And you shall bruise him on the heel."

"네가 알몸이라고 누가 일러주더냐? 내가 따먹지 말라고 일러둔 나무 열매를 네가 따먹었구나!" 하느님께서 이렇게 말씀하시자

아담은 핑계를 대었다. "당신께서 저에게 짝지어 주신 여자가 그 나무에서 열매를 따주기에 먹었을 따름입니다."

야훼 하느님께서 여자에게 물으셨다. "어쩌다가 이런 일을 했느냐?" 여자도 핑계를 대었다. "뱀에게 속아서 따먹었습니다."

야훼 하느님께서 뱀에게 말씀하셨다. "네가 이런 일을 저질렀으니 온갖 집짐승과 들짐승 가운데서 너는 저주를 받아, 죽기까지 배로 기어 다니며 흙을 먹어야 하리라.

나는 너를 여자와 원수가 되게 하리라. 네 후손을 여자의 후손과 원수가 되게 하리라. 너는 그 발꿈치를 물려고 하다가 도리어 여자의 후손에게 머리를 밟히리라."

To the woman He said, "I will greatly multiply Your pain in childbirth, In pain you will bring forth children; Yet your desire will be for your husband, And he will rule over you."

Then to Adam He said, "Because you have listened to the voice of your wife, and have eaten from the tree about which I commanded you, saying, 'You shall not eat from it'; Cursed is the ground because of you; In toil you will eat of it All the days of your life.

"Both thorns and thistles it shall grow for you; And you will eat the plants of the field;

By the sweat of your face You will eat bread, Till you return to the ground, Because from it you were taken; For you are dust, And to dust you shall return."

Now the man called his wife's name Eve, because she was the mother of all the living.

그리고 여자에게는 이렇게 말씀하셨다. "너는 아기를 낳을 때 몹시 고생하리라. 고생하지 않고는 아기를 낳지 못하리라. 남편을 마음대로 주무르고 싶겠지만, 도리어 남편의 손아귀에 들리라."

그리고 아담에게는 이렇게 말씀하셨다. "너는 아내의 말에 넘어가 따먹지 말라고 내가 일찍이 일러둔 나무 열매를 따먹었으니, 땅 또한 너 때문에 저주를 받으리라. 너는 죽도록 고생해야 먹고 살리라.

들에서 나는 곡식을 먹어야 할 터인데, 땅은 가시덤불과 엉겅퀴를 내리라.

너는, 흙에서 난 몸이니 흙으로 돌아가기까지 이마에 땀을 흘려야 낟알을 얻어먹으리라. 너는 먼지이니 먼지로 돌아가리라."

아담은 아내를 인류의 어머니라 해서 하와라고 이름지어 불렀다.

The LORD God made garments of skin for Adam and his wife, and clothed them.

Then the LORD God said, "Behold, the man has become like one of Us, knowing good and evil; and now, he might stretch out his hand, and take also from the tree of life, and eat, and live forever"--

therefore the LORD God sent him out from the garden of Eden, to cultivate the ground from which he was taken.

So He drove the man out; and at the east of the garden of Eden He stationed the cherubim and the flaming sword which turned every direction to guard the way to the tree of life.

야훼 하느님께서는 가죽옷을 만들어 아담과 그의 아내에게 입혀주셨다.

야훼 하느님께서는 '이제 이 사람이 우리들처럼 선과 악을 알게 되었으니, 손을 내밀어 생명나무 열매까지 따먹고 끝없이 살게 되어서는 안 되겠다.'고 생각하시고

에덴 동산에서 내쫓으셨다. 그리고 땅에서 나왔으므로 땅을 갈아 농사를 짓게 하셨다.

이렇게 아담을 쫓아내신 다음 하느님은 동쪽에 거룹들을 세우시고 돌아가는 불칼을 장치하여 생명나무에 이르는 길목을 지키게 하셨다.

	가인과 아벨(4:1-4:26)

Now the man had relations with his wife Eve, and she conceived and gave birth to Cain, and she said, "I have gotten a manchild with the help of the LORD."

Again, she gave birth to his brother Abel. And Abel was a keeper of flocks, but Cain was a tiller of the ground.

So it came about in the course of time that Cain brought an offering to the LORD of the fruit of the ground.

Abel, on his part also brought of the firstlings of his flock and of their fat portions And the LORD had regard for Abel and for his offering;

but for Cain and for his offering He had no regard So Cain became very angry and his countenance fell.

아담이 아내 하와와 한자리에 들었더니 아내가 임신하여 카인을 낳고 이렇게 외쳤다. "야훼께서 나에게 아들을 주셨구나!"

하와는 또 카인의 아우 아벨을 낳았는데, 아벨은 양을 치는 목자가 되었고 카인은 밭을 가는 농부가 되었다.

때가 되어 카인은 땅에서 난 곡식을 야훼께 예물로 드렸고

아벨은 양떼 가운데서 맏배의 기름기를 드렸다. 그런데 야훼께서는 아벨과 그가 바친 예물은 반기시고

카인과 그가 바친 예물은 반기지 않으셨다. 카인은 고개를 떨어뜨렸다. 몹시 화가 나 있었다. 야훼께서 이것을 보시고

Then the LORD said to Cain, "Why are you angry? And why has your countenance fallen?

"If you do well, will not your countenance be lifted up? And if you do not do well, sin is crouching at the door; and its desire is for you, but you must master it."

Cain told Abel his brother. And it came about when they were in the field, that Cain rose up against Abel his brother and killed him.

Then the LORD said to Cain, "Where is Abel your brother?" And he said, "I do not know. Am I my brother's keeper?"

He said, "What have you done? The voice of your brother's blood is crying to Me from the ground.

카인에게 말씀하셨다. "너는 왜 그렇게 화가 났느냐? 왜 고개를 떨어뜨리고 있느냐?

네가 잘했다면 왜 얼굴을 쳐들지 못하느냐? 그러나 네가 만일 마음을 잘못 먹었다면, 죄가 네 문 앞에 도사리고 앉아 너를 노릴 것이다. 그러므로 너는 그 죄에 굴레를 씌워야 한다."

그러나 카인은 아우 아벨을 들로 가자고 꾀어 들로 데리고 나가서 달려들어 아우 아벨을 쳐죽였다.

야훼께서 카인에게 물으셨다. "네 아우 아벨이 어디 있느냐?" 카인은 "제가 아우를 지키는 사람입니까?" 하고 잡아떼며 모른다고 대답하였다.

그러나 야훼께서는 "네가 어찌 이런 일을 저질렀느냐?" 하시면서 꾸짖으셨다. "네 아우의 피가 땅에서 나에게 울부짖고 있다.

"Now you are cursed from the ground, which has opened its mouth to receive your brother's blood from your hand.

"When you cultivate the ground, it will no longer yield its strength to you; you will be a vagrant and a wanderer on the earth."

Cain said to the LORD, "My punishment is too great to bear!

"Behold, You have driven me this day from the face of the ground; and from Your face I will be hidden, and I will be a vagrant and a wanderer on the earth, and whoever finds me will kill me."

So the LORD said to him, "Therefore whoever kills Cain, vengeance will be taken on him sevenfold " And the LORD appointed a sign for Cain, so that no one finding him would slay him.

땅이 입을 벌려 네 아우의 피를 네 손에서 받았다. 너는 저주를 받은 몸이니 이 땅에서 물러나야 한다.

네가 아무리 애써 땅을 갈아도 이 땅은 더 이상 소출을 내지 않을 것이다. 너는 세상을 떠돌아다니는 신세가 될 것이다."

그러자 카인이 야훼께 하소연하였다. "벌이 너무 무거워서, 저로서는 견디지 못하겠습니다.

오늘 이 땅에서 저를 아주 쫓아내시니, 저는 이제 하느님을 뵙지 못하고 세상을 떠돌아다니게 되었습니다. 저를 만나는 사람마다 저를 죽이려고 할 것입니다."

"그렇게 못하도록 하여주마. 카인을 죽이는 사람에게는 내가 일곱 갑절로 벌을 내리리라." 이렇게 말씀하시고 야훼께서는 누가 카인을 만나더라도 그를 죽이지 못하도록 그에게 표를 찍어주셨다.

Then Cain went out from the presence of the LORD, and settled in the land of Nod, east of Eden.

Cain had relations with his wife and she conceived, and gave birth to Enoch; and he built a city, and called the name of the city Enoch, after the name of his son.

Now to Enoch was born Irad, and Irad became the father of Mehujael, and Mehujael became the father of Methushael, and Methushael became the father of Lamech.

Lamech took to himself two wives: the name of the one was Adah, and the name of the other, Zillah.

Adah gave birth to Jabal; he was the father of those who dwell in tents and have livestock.

카인은 하느님 앞에서 물러나와 에덴 동쪽 놋이라는 곳에 자리를 잡았다.

카인이 아내와 한자리에 들었더니, 아내가 임신하여 에녹을 낳았다. 카인은 제가 세운 고을을 아들의 이름을 따서 에녹이라고 불렀다.

에녹에게서 이랏이 태어났고, 이랏은 므후야엘을, 므후야엘은 므두사엘을, 므두사엘은 라멕을 낳았다.

라멕은 두 아내를 데리고 살았는데, 한 아내의 이름은 아다요, 또 한 아내의 이름은 실라였다.

아다가 낳은 야발은 장막에서 살며 양을 치는 목자들의 조상이 되었고

His brother's name was Jubal; he was the father of all those who play the lyre and pipe.

As for Zillah, she also gave birth to Tubal-cain, the forger of all implements of bronze and iron; and the sister of Tubal-cain was Naamah.

Lamech said to his wives, "Adah and Zillah, Listen to my voice, You wives of Lamech, Give heed to my speech, For I have killed a man for wounding me; And a boy for striking me;

If Cain is avenged sevenfold, Then Lamech seventy-sevenfold."

Adam had relations with his wife again; and she gave birth to a son, and named him Seth, for, she said, "God has appointed me another offspring in place of Abel, for Cain killed him."

그의 아우 유발은 거문고를 뜯고 퉁소를 부는 악사의 조상이 되었으며

실라가 낳은 두발카인은 구리와 쇠를 다루는 대장장이가 되었다. 두발카인에게는 나아마라는 누이가 있었다.

라멕이 아내들에게 말하였다. "아다야, 실라야, 내 말을 들어라. 라멕의 아내들아, 내 말에 귀를 기울여라. 나를 해치지 마라. 죽여버리리라. 젊었다고 하여 나에게 손찌검을 하지 마라. 죽여버리리라.

카인을 해친 사람이 일곱 갑절로 보복을 받는다면, 라멕을 해치는 사람은 일흔일곱 갑절로 보복을 받으리라."

아담이 다시 아내와 한자리에 들었더니 아내가 아들을 낳고는 "하느님께서 카인에게 죽은 아벨 대신 이제 또 다른 아들을 주셨구나." 하며 이름을 셋이라고 지어주었다.

To Seth, to him also a son was born; and he called his name Enosh Then men began to call upon the name of the LORD.

셋도 아들을 얻고 이름을 에노스라고 지어 불렀다. 그 때 에노스가 비로소 야훼의 이름을 불러 예배하였다.

	화염검(火焰劍, 3:24) 자체적으로 회전하며 돌아가는 불칼로, 하나님의 위엄을 상징함

	창상(創傷, 4:23) 칼이나 도끼 등의 날이 있는 연장에 다친 상처
