창세기 20:1-21:34

 아브라함이 그랄에 거주할 때 아비멜렉이 사라를 취하자 하나님께서 그에게 현몽하셔서 사라를 보낼 것을 명령하셨다. 이에 아비멜렉은 많은 재물과 함께 사라를 돌려보냈다. 하나님께서 약속하신 기한이 이르러 사라가 이삭을 낳았다. 이스마엘이 이삭을 희롱하는 사건이 벌어지자 하나님께서는 아브라함으로 하여금 하갈과 이스마엘을 내쫓게 하셨다.
  
  아브라함과 아비멜렉(20:1-20:18)    
 
  1. Now Abraham journeyed from there toward the land of the Negev, and settled between Kadesh and Shur; then he sojourned in Gerar.
  2. Abraham said of Sarah his wife, "She is my sister " So Abimelech king of Gerar sent and took Sarah.
  3. But God came to Abimelech in a dream of the night, and said to him, "Behold, you are a dead man because of the woman whom you have taken, for she is married."
  4. Now Abimelech had not come near her; and he said, "Lord, will You slay a nation, even though blameless?
  5. "Did he not himself say to me, 'She is my sister'? And she herself said, 'He is my brother ' In the integrity of my heart and the innocence of my hands I have done this."
  1. 아브라함은 그 곳을 떠나 네겝 쪽으로 자리를 옮겨가다가 카데스와 수르 사이에 있는 그랄에 이르러 거기에 정착하여 살게 되었다.
  2. 그 때 아브라함은 아내 사라를 누이라고 했다가 사라가 그랄 왕 아비멜렉에게 불려 들어가는 변을 당하였다.
  3. 그 날 밤 하느님께서 아비멜렉의 꿈에 나타나시어 "네가 맞아들인 여인으로 하여 너는 죽으리라. 그 여인은 남편이 있는 몸이다." 하고 이르셨다.
  4. 아비멜렉은 아직 사라를 가까이하지 않았으므로 이렇게 말하였다. "주여, 당신은 죄없는 사람도 죽이십니까?
  5. 그들은 분명히 서로 오누이라고 했습니다. 저는 조금도 마음에 걸리는 일은 하지 않았습니다. 제 손은 깨끗합니다."
  1. Then God said to him in the dream, "Yes, I know that in the integrity of your heart you have done this, and I also kept you from sinning against Me; therefore I did not let you touch her.
  2. "Now therefore, restore the man's wife, for he is a prophet, and he will pray for you and you will live. But if you do not restore her, know that you shall surely die, you and all who are yours."
  3. So Abimelech arose early in the morning and called all his servants and told all these things in their hearing; and the men were greatly frightened.
  4. Then Abimelech called Abraham and said to him, "What have you done to us? And how have I sinned against you, that you have brought on me and on my kingdom a great sin? You have done to me things that ought not to be done."
  5. And Abimelech said to Abraham, "What have you encountered, that you have done this thing?"
  1. 하느님께서 또 꿈에 그에게 말씀하셨다. "네가 마음에 걸릴 일을 하지 않은 줄은 나도 안다. 그러나 나에게 죄를 짓지 못하게 너를 지켜준 이가 누군지 아느냐? 너로 하여금 그 여인을 건드리지 못하게 한 것은 바로 나다.
  2. 그러니 그 여인을 곧 남편에게 돌려보내라. 그 남편은 예언자다. 그가 너를 위하여 기도해 주어야 네가 죽지 않으리라. 만일 그 여인을 돌려보내지 않으면 너는 물론 네 식구들도 다 죽으리라."
  3. 아비멜렉은 아침 일찍이 일어나 종을 다 불러모으고 이 일을 그들에게 낱낱이 들려주었다. 이 말을 들은 사람들은 모두 두려움에 사로잡혔다.
  4. 아비멜렉이 아브라함을 불러들여 꾸짖었다. "내가 너에게 무슨 못할 일을 했기에 너는 나와 내 나라에 이렇듯이 엄청난 죄를 뒤집어씌웠느냐? 너는 나에게 차마 못할 짓을 하였다."
  5. 그리고 아비멜렉은 아브라함에게 다시 물었다. "어쩌자고 그런 짓을 했느냐?"
  1. Abraham said, "Because I thought, surely there is no fear of God in this place, and they will kill me because of my wife.
  2. "Besides, she actually is my sister, the daughter of my father, but not the daughter of my mother, and she became my wife;
  3. and it came about, when God caused me to wander from my father's house, that I said to her, 'This is the kindness which you will show to me: everywhere we go, say of me, "He is my brother."'"
  4. Abimelech then took sheep and oxen and male and female servants, and gave them to Abraham, and restored his wife Sarah to him.
  5. Abimelech said, "Behold, my land is before you; settle wherever you please."
  1. 아브라함이 대답하였다. "이 곳에는 하느님 두려운 줄 아는 사람이 없는 줄 알았습니다. 그래서 나는 아내 때문에 맞아죽을 것 같아서 그랬습니다.
  2. 더구나 사라는 정말 내 누이이기도 합니다. 같은 아버지의 피를 받은 누이입니다. 어머니가 달라서 내 아내가 된 것입니다.
  3. 집을 떠나라는 하느님의 분부를 받았을 때 나는 사라에게 나를 오라버니라고 부를 것을 당부해 두었던 것입니다."
  4. 아비멜렉은 아브라함에게 양떼와 소떼, 남종과 여종을 주면서 그의 아내 사라도 돌려주었다.
  5. 그리고 나서 아비멜렉은 말하였다. "보아라. 내 땅 어디든지 네 마음에 드는 곳에 가서 살아라."
  1. To Sarah he said, "Behold, I have given your brother a thousand pieces of silver; behold, it is your vindication before all who are with you, and before all men you are cleared."
  2. Abraham prayed to God, and God healed Abimelech and his wife and his maids, so that they bore children.
  3. For the LORD had closed fast all the wombs of the household of Abimelech because of Sarah, Abraham's wife.
  1. 그리고 사라를 돌아보며 말하였다. "네 오라비에게 은전 천 닢을 주었다. 그 은전 천 닢은 너와 함께 있는 사람들에게 네가 아무 일도 없었다는 것을 보증해 주리라. 이로써 너는 모든 사람 앞에 결백하다는 것이 증명되는 것이다."
  2. 아브라함이 하느님께 기도하니 하느님께서 아비멜렉과 그의 아내와 여종들의 병을 고쳐주셨다. 그래서 그들은 다시 아기를 낳을 수 있게 되었다.
  3. 아브라함의 아내 사라 때문에 야훼께서는 아비멜렉의 집에 있는 모든 여자의 태를 닫으셨던 것이다.
 
  이삭의 출생(21:1-21:34)    
 
  1. Then the LORD took note of Sarah as He had said, and the LORD did for Sarah as He had promised.
  2. So Sarah conceived and bore a son to Abraham in his old age, at the appointed time of which God had spoken to him.
  3. Abraham called the name of his son who was born to him, whom Sarah bore to him, Isaac.
  4. Then Abraham circumcised his son Isaac when he was eight days old, as God had commanded him.
  5. Now Abraham was one hundred years old when his son Isaac was born to him.
  1. 야훼께서는 약속대로 사라를 돌보셨다. 사라에게 하신 약속을 이루어주시니,
  2. 사라가 임신하여 하느님께서 약속하신 바로 그 때에 늙은 아브라함에게 아들을 낳아주었다.
  3. 아브라함은 사라가 낳아준 아들을 이사악이라 이름지어 불렀다.
  4. 하느님의 분부를 따라 아브라함은 아들 이사악이 태어난 지 팔 일 만에 할례를 베풀었다.
  5. 아브라함이 아들 이사악을 얻은 것은 백 살이 되던 해였다.
  1. Sarah said, "God has made laughter for me; everyone who hears will laugh with me."
  2. And she said, "Who would have said to Abraham that Sarah would nurse children? Yet I have borne him a son in his old age."
  3. The child grew and was weaned, and Abraham made a great feast on the day that Isaac was weaned.
  4. Now Sarah saw the son of Hagar the Egyptian, whom she had borne to Abraham, mocking.
  5. Therefore she said to Abraham, "Drive out this maid and her son, for the son of this maid shall not be an heir with my son Isaac."
  1. 사라가 말하였다. "하느님께서 나에게 웃음을 주셨구나. 내가 아들을 낳았다고 모두들 나와 함께 기뻐하게 되었구나.
  2. 누가 아브라함에게 사라가 아기에게 젖을 물리리라고 말할 꿈이나 꾸었더냐? 그런데 그 노령에 아들을 얻으셨구나."
  3. 아기가 자라나 젖을 뗄 때가 되었다. 이사악이 젖을 떼던 날, 아브라함은 큰 잔치를 베풀었다.
  4. 그런데 사라는 이집트 여자 하갈이 아브라함에게 낳아준 아들이 자기 아들 이사악과 함께 노는 것을 보고
  5. 아브라함에게 말하였다. "그 계집종과 아들을 내쫓아 주십시오. 그 계집종의 아들이 내 아들 이사악과 함께 상속자가 될 수는 없습니다."
  1. The matter distressed Abraham greatly because of his son.
  2. But God said to Abraham, "Do not be distressed because of the lad and your maid; whatever Sarah tells you, listen to her, for through Isaac your descendants shall be named.
  3. "And of the son of the maid I will make a nation also, because he is your descendant."
  4. So Abraham rose early in the morning and took bread and a skin of water and gave them to Hagar, putting them on her shoulder, and gave her the boy, and sent her away. And she departed and wandered about in the wilderness of Beersheba.
  5. When the water in the skin was used up, she left the boy under one of the bushes.
  1. 이 말을 듣고 아브라함은 마음이 몹시 괴로웠다. 이스마엘도 자기 혈육이었기 때문이다.
  2. 그러자 하느님께서 아브라함에게 말씀하셨다. "그 애와 네 계집종을 걱정하여 마음 아파하지 마라. 사라가 하는 말을 다 들어주어라. 이사악에게서 난 자식이라야 네 혈통을 이을 것이다.
  3. 그러나 이 계집종의 아들도 네 자식이니 내가 그도 큰 민족을 이루게 하리라."
  4. 아브라함은 아침 일찍 일어나 양식 얼마와 물 한 부대를 하갈에게 메어주며 아이를 데리고 나가게 하였다. 하갈은 길을 떠나 얼마쯤 가다가 브엘세바 빈들을 헤매게 되었다.
  5. 부대의 물이 떨어지자 하갈은 덤불 한 구석에 아들을 내려놓고
  1. Then she went and sat down opposite him, about a bowshot away, for she said, "Do not let me see the boy die." And she sat opposite him, and lifted up her voice and wept.
  2. God heard the lad crying; and the angel of God called to Hagar from heaven and said to her, "What is the matter with you, Hagar? Do not fear, for God has heard the voice of the lad where he is.
  3. "Arise, lift up the lad, and hold him by the hand, for I will make a great nation of him."
  4. Then God opened her eyes and she saw a well of water; and she went and filled the skin with water and gave the lad a drink.
  5. God was with the lad, and he grew; and he lived in the wilderness and became an archer.
  1. "자식이 죽는 것을 어찌 눈 뜨고 보랴." 하고 탄식하며 화살이 날아가는 거리만큼 떨어져서 주저앉아 이스마엘을 바라보았다. 하갈은 이스마엘이 소리내어 우는데도 주저앉아 그저 바라만 보았다.
  2. 하느님께서 그 아이의 울음 소리를 들으시고 당신의 천사를 시켜 하늘에서 하갈을 불러 이르셨다. "하갈아, 어찌 된 일이냐? 걱정하지 마라. 하느님께서 저기서 네 아들의 울부짖는 소리를 들으셨다.
  3. 어서 가서 아이를 안아 일으켜주어라. 내가 그를 큰 민족이 되게 하리라."
  4. 하느님께서 하갈의 눈을 열어주시니, 그의 눈에 샘이 보였다. 하갈은 큰 부대에 물을 채워다가 아이에게 먹였다.
  5. 하느님께서 그와 함께 해주셨다. 그는 자라서 사막에서 살며 활을 쏘는 사냥꾼이 되었다.
  1. He lived in the wilderness of Paran, and his mother took a wife for him from the land of Egypt.
  2. Now it came about at that time that Abimelech and Phicol, the commander of his army, spoke to Abraham, saying, "God is with you in all that you do;
  3. now therefore, swear to me here by God that you will not deal falsely with me or with my offspring or with my posterity, but according to the kindness that I have shown to you, you shall show to me and to the land in which you have sojourned."
  4. Abraham said, "I swear it."
  5. But Abraham complained to Abimelech because of the well of water which the servants of Abimelech had seized.
  1. 그는 바란 사막에서 살았는데 그의 어머니는 며느릿감을 이집트 땅에서 골라 맞아들였다.
  2. 그 때 아비멜렉이 군사령관 비골을 데리고 아브라함을 찾아와 제안하였다. "당신이 무슨 일을 하든지 하느님께서는 함께 해주십니다.
  3. 그러니 이 자리에서 하느님을 증인으로 삼고 맹세해 주십시오. 나와 내 혈육 일족을 배신하지 않겠다고 말이오. 내가 당신에게 신의를 지켰듯이 당신도 당신이 정착해 사는 이 곳 사람들과 나에게 신의를 지키겠다고 하여주십시오."
  4. "예, 맹세하지요." 하고 승낙하고 나서 아브라함은
  5. 아비멜렉의 종들이 자기의 우물을 빼앗은 일을 따졌다.
  1. And Abimelech said, "I do not know who has done this thing; you did not tell me, nor did I hear of it until today."
  2. Abraham took sheep and oxen and gave them to Abimelech, and the two of them made a covenant.
  3. Then Abraham set seven ewe lambs of the flock by themselves.
  4. Abimelech said to Abraham, "What do these seven ewe lambs mean, which you have set by themselves?"
  5. He said, "You shall take these seven ewe lambs from my hand so that it may be a witness to me, that I dug this well."
  1. 그러자 아비멜렉은 "누가 그런 짓을 했는지 나는 모르오. 당신도 말씀해 주신 적이 없었고 오늘날까지 그런 말을 들어본 일도 없습니다." 하고 대답하였다.
  2. 아브라함은 양과 소를 끌어다가 아비멜렉에게 주었고, 두 사람은 계약을 맺었다.
  3. 그리고 아브라함이 어린 암양 일곱 마리를 가려내자
  4. 아비멜렉이 아브라함에게 물었다. "어린 암양 일곱 마리를 무엇하러 따로 골라내시오?"
  5. 그는 "이 어린 암양 일곱을 받으시고 이 우물은 내가 팠다는 것을 인정해 달라는 것이오." 하고 대답하였다.
  1. Therefore he called that place Beersheba, because there the two of them took an oath.
  2. So they made a covenant at Beersheba; and Abimelech and Phicol, the commander of his army, arose and returned to the land of the Philistines.
  3. Abraham planted a tamarisk tree at Beersheba, and there he called on the name of the LORD, the Everlasting God.
  4. And Abraham sojourned in the land of the Philistines for many days.
  1. 이렇게 두 사람이 거기에서 서로 맹세했다고 해서 그 곳을 브엘세바라고 하였다.
  2. 브엘세바에서 계약을 맺은 다음 아비멜렉은 군사령관 비골을 데리고 불레셋 땅으로 돌아갔다.
  3. 아브라함은 브엘세바에 에셀 나무를 심고 그 곳에서 영원하신 하느님 야훼의 이름을 불러 예배하였다.
  4. 아브라함은 불레셋 땅에 오랫동안 머물렀다.
 
  권고(眷顧, 21:1)  ‘방문하다’라는 뜻으로, 하나님께서 약속을 이루기 위해 사라를 방문하신 것을 의미한다  
  늑탈(勒奪, 21:25)  남의 것을 억지로 빼앗음
