	민수기 11:24-13:33 모세는 이스라엘의 불평을 하나님께 호소하였고, 모세의 책임을 분담하기 위해 70인의 장로가 선택되었다. 미리암과 아론은 이방 여인과 결혼한 모세를 비방하였다. 이 일로 인해 미리암은 하나님의 징계를 받아 문둥병에 걸렸으나 모세의 기도로 치유되었다. 가데스 바네아에서 하나님께서 가나안 땅에 열두 정탐꾼을 보내게 하셨다. 이에 가나안 땅을 정탐하고 돌아온 정탐꾼들 중 열 명은 백성들에게 부정적인 보고를 하였으나, 여호수아와 갈렙은 믿음에 근거한 긍정적인 보고를 하였다.

	미리암과 아론의 시기(11:24-12:16)

So Moses went out and told the people the words of the LORD. Also, he gathered seventy men of the elders of the people, and stationed them around the tent.

Then the LORD came down in the cloud and spoke to him; and He took of the Spirit who was upon him and placed Him upon the seventy elders. And when the Spirit rested upon them, they prophesied. But they did not do it again.

But two men had remained in the camp; the name of one was Eldad and the name of the other Medad. And the Spirit rested upon them (now they were among those who had been registered, but had not gone out to the tent), and they prophesied in the camp.

So a young man ran and told Moses and said, "Eldad and Medad are prophesying in the camp."

Then Joshua the son of Nun, the attendant of Moses from his youth, said, "Moses, my lord, restrain them."

모세는 백성에게로 나아가 야훼의 말씀을 전하고 백성 가운데서 나이 많은 장로 칠십 명을 불러모아 장막 주위에 둘러 세웠다.

야훼께서는 구름 속으로 내려오시어 모세와 말씀하시고, 그에게 내리셨던 영을 칠십 장로들에게도 나누어주셨다. 영이 그들에게 내려 머물자 그들은 입신하였다. 그러나 다시는 그런 일이 일어나지 않았다.

그런데 장로 명단에는 올라 있는데 성막으로 가지 않고 진중에 남아 있던 사람이 둘 있었다. 그 한 사람의 이름은 엘닷이요, 또 한 사람의 이름은 메닷이었다. 그들에게도 같은 영이 내려 진중에서 입신하였다.

한 젊은이가 모세에게 달려와 엘닷과 메닷이 진중에서 입신하고 있다고 보고하였다.

젊었을 때부터 모세를 섬겨온 눈의 아들 여호수아가 아뢰었다. "우리의 영도자여, 그대로 두어서는 안 되십니다."

But Moses said to him, "Are you jealous for my sake? Would that all the LORD'S people were prophets, that the LORD would put His Spirit upon them!"

Then Moses returned to the camp, both he and the elders of Israel.

Now there went forth a wind from the LORD and it brought quail from the sea, and let them fall beside the camp, about a day's journey on this side and a day's journey on the other side, all around the camp and about two cubits deep on the surface of the ground.

The people spent all day and all night and all the next day, and gathered the quail (he who gathered least gathered ten homers) and they spread them out for themselves all around the camp.

While the meat was still between their teeth, before it was chewed, the anger of the LORD was kindled against the people, and the LORD struck the people with a very severe plague.

모세가 그를 타일렀다. "너는 지금 나를 생각하여 질투하고 있느냐? 차라리 야훼께서 당신의 영을 이 백성에게 주시어 모두 예언자가 되었으면 좋겠다."

모세는 이스라엘 장로들과 함께 진중으로 돌아왔다.

야훼께서 바람을 일으키시어 바다 쪽에서 메추라기를 몰아다가 진지 이쪽과 저쪽으로 하루 길 될 만한 사이에 떨어뜨리시어, 땅 위에 두 자 가량 쌓이게 되었다.

백성들은 몰려나와 그 날 밤과 낮 동안, 또 다음날 종일 메추라기를 모아서 진지 주위에 널어놓았다. 아무리 적게 모은 사람도 열 섬은 모았다.

백성들이 고기를 한창 뜯고 있는데 야훼의 진노가 그들에게 내렸다. 야훼께서 극심한 재앙으로 백성을 치신 것이다.

So the name of that place was called Kibroth-hattaavah, because there they buried the people who had been greedy.

From Kibroth-hattaavah the people set out for Hazeroth, and they remained at Hazeroth.

욕심 사나운 백성을 거기에 묻었으므로 그 곳 이름을 키브롯하따아와라고 부르게 되었다.

백성들은 하세롯을 향하여 키브롯하따아와를 떠나 하세롯에 이르러 머물렀다.

Then Miriam and Aaron spoke against Moses because of the Cushite woman whom he had married (for he had married a Cushite woman);

and they said, "Has the LORD indeed spoken only through Moses? Has He not spoken through us as well?" And the LORD heard it.

(Now the man Moses was very humble, more than any man who was on the face of the earth.)

Suddenly the LORD said to Moses and Aaron and to Miriam, "You three come out to the tent of meeting." So the three of them came out.

Then the LORD came down in a pillar of cloud and stood at the doorway of the tent, and He called Aaron and Miriam. When they had both come forward,

미리암과 아론은 모세가 에티오피아 여인을 아내로 맞았다고 해서 그를 비판하였다.

"야훼께서 모세에게만 말씀하시고 우리에게는 말씀하시지 않으시는 줄 아느냐?" 이렇게 투덜거리는 소리를 야훼께서 들으셨다.

모세는 실상 매우 겸손한 사람이었다. 땅 위에 사는 사람 가운데 그만큼 겸손한 사람은 없었다.

야훼께서 모세와 아론과 미리암을 당장 부르셨다. "너희 셋은 당장 만남의 장막으로 나오너라." 셋이 함께 나가자,

야훼께서 내려오시어 구름기둥으로 장막 입구에 서시고 아론과 미리암을 부르셨다. 그들이 나가 서자

He said, "Hear now My words: If there is a prophet among you, I, the LORD, shall make Myself known to him in a vision I shall speak with him in a dream.

"Not so, with My servant Moses, He is faithful in all My household;

With him I speak mouth to mouth, Even openly, and not in dark sayings, And he beholds the form of the LORD. Why then were you not afraid To speak against My servant, against Moses?"

So the anger of the LORD burned against them and He departed.

But when the cloud had withdrawn from over the tent, behold, Miriam was leprous, as white as snow. As Aaron turned toward Miriam, behold, she was leprous.

말씀하셨다. "너희는 내 말을 들어라. 너희 가운데 예언자가 있다면 나는 그에게 환상으로 내 뜻을 알리고 꿈으로 말해 줄 것이다.

나의 종 모세는 다르다. 나는 나의 온 집을 그에게 맡겼다.

내가 모세와는 얼굴을 맞대고 이야기한다. 하나도 숨기지 않고 모두 말해 준다. 모세는 나 야훼의 모습까지 볼 수 있는 사람이다. 그런 나의 종 모세에게 감히 시비를 걸다니, 두렵지도 아니하냐?"

야훼께서는 이렇게 그들에게 화를 내시고 떠나가셨다.

구름이 장막에서 걷히자 미리암은 문둥병에 걸려 눈처럼 하얗게 되어 있는 것이었다. 아론은 미리암이 문둥병에 걸린 것을 돌아보고

Then Aaron said to Moses, "Oh, my lord, I beg you, do not account this sin to us, in which we have acted foolishly and in which we have sinned.

"Oh, do not let her be like one dead, whose flesh is half eaten away when he comes from his mother's womb!"

Moses cried out to the LORD, saying, "O God, heal her, I pray!"

But the LORD said to Moses, "If her father had but spit in her face, would she not bear her shame for seven days? Let her be shut up for seven days outside the camp, and afterward she may be received again."

So Miriam was shut up outside the camp for seven days, and the people did not move on until Miriam was received again.

모세에게 빌었다. "우리의 영도자여, 우리가 어리석어서 저지른 이 잘못을 벌하지 마시오.

미리암을 저렇게 살이 뭉그러진 채 죽어 태어난 아이처럼 두지는 마시오."

모세가 야훼께 부르짖었다. "하느님, 미리암을 고쳐주십시오."

야훼께서 모세에게 이르셨다. "미리암의 얼굴에 아비가 침을 뱉었다면, 부끄러워 이레 동안 들어앉아 있어야 하는 법 아니냐? 그러니 미리암을 진 바깥으로 내쫓았다가 이레가 지난 다음에 돌아오게 하여라."

미리암은 이레 동안 진 밖에 쫓겨나가 있었다. 그 동안 백성은 거기에 머물러 있다가 미리암이 돌아온 다음에야

Afterward, however, the people moved out from Hazeroth and camped in the wilderness of Paran.

하세롯을 떠나 바란 광야에 이르러 진을 쳤다.

	가나안 정탐(13:1-13:33)

Then the LORD spoke to Moses saying,

"Send out for yourself men so that they may spy out the land of Canaan, which I am going to give to the sons of Israel; you shall send a man from each of their fathers' tribes, every one a leader among them."

So Moses sent them from the wilderness of Paran at the command of the LORD, all of them men who were heads of the sons of Israel.

These then were their names: from the tribe of Reuben, Shammua the son of Zaccur;

from the tribe of Simeon, Shaphat the son of Hori;

야훼께서 모세에게 이르셨다.

"내가 이스라엘 백성에게 줄 가나안 땅을 정탐하게 사람들을 보내어라. 각 지파에서 한 사람씩 수령들을 보내어라."

모세는 야훼의 분부대로 바란 광야에 사람을 보내었다. 그들은 모두 이스라엘 백성의 수령들이었다.

이름은 아래와 같다. 르우벤 지파 대표는 자구르의 아들 삼무아,

시므온 지파 대표는 호리의 아들 사밧,

from the tribe of Judah, Caleb the son of Jephunneh;

from the tribe of Issachar, Igal the son of Joseph;

from the tribe of Ephraim, Hoshea the son of Nun;

from the tribe of Benjamin, Palti the son of Raphu;

from the tribe of Zebulun, Gaddiel the son of Sodi;

유다 지파 대표는 여분네의 아들 갈렙,

이싸갈 지파 대표는 요셉의 아들 이갈,

에브라임 지파 대표는 눈의 아들 호세아,

베냐민 지파 대표는 라부의 아들 발티,

즈불룬 지파 대표는 소디의 아들 가띠엘,

from the tribe of Joseph, from the tribe of Manasseh, Gaddi the son of Susi;

from the tribe of Dan, Ammiel the son of Gemalli;

from the tribe of Asher, Sethur the son of Michael;

from the tribe of Naphtali, Nahbi the son of Vophsi;

from the tribe of Gad, Geuel the son of Machi.

요셉 지파와 므나쎄 지파 대표는 수시의 아들 가띠,

단 지파 대표는 그말리의 아들 암미엘,

아셀 지파 대표는 미가엘의 아들 스둘,

납달리 지파 대표는 옵시의 아들 나흐비,

가드 지파 대표는 마기의 아들 그우엘.

These are the names of the men whom Moses sent to spy out the land; but Moses called Hoshea the son of Nun, Joshua.

When Moses sent them to spy out the land of Canaan, he said to them, "Go up there into the Negev; then go up into the hill country.

"See what the land is like, and whether the people who live in it are strong or weak, whether they are few or many.

"How is the land in which they live, is it good or bad? And how are the cities in which they live, are they like open camps or with fortifications?

"How is the land, is it fat or lean? Are there trees in it or not? Make an effort then to get some of the fruit of the land." Now the time was the time of the first ripe grapes.

모세가 가나안 땅을 정탐하라고 보낸 사람들의 이름은 위와 같다. 눈의 아들 호세아의 이름을 여호수아라고 고쳐준 것은 모세였다.

모세는 가나안 땅을 정탐하라고 그들을 보내면서 이렇게 일렀다. "저 네겝 지방에 들어가 보고 산악 지대에도 올라가 보아라.

그 곳이 어떤 곳인지 살펴보아라. 거기에 사는 백성이 강한지 약한지, 많은지 적은지,

그들이 사는 땅이 좋은지 나쁜지, 그들이 사는 도시들은 어떤지, 천막에서 사는지, 견고한 성 안에서 사는지,

땅은 기름진지 메마른지, 숲이 우거졌는지 아닌지 살펴보고 오너라. 대담하게 행동하여라. 그리고 그 곳에서 나는 과일을 따오너라." 그 때는 마침 이른 포도철이었다.

So they went up and spied out the land from the wilderness of Zin as far as Rehob, at Lebo-hamath.

When they had gone up into the Negev, they came to Hebron where Ahiman, Sheshai and Talmai, the descendants of Anak were (Now Hebron was built seven years before Zoan in Egypt.)

Then they came to the valley of Eshcol and from there cut down a branch with a single cluster of grapes; and they carried it on a pole between two men, with some of the pomegranates and the figs.

That place was called the valley of Eshcol, because of the cluster which the sons of Israel cut down from there.

When they returned from spying out the land, at the end of forty days,

그들은 씬 광야에서 하맛 어귀에 있는 르홉에 이르기까지 샅샅이 살피려고 그 땅으로 들어갔다.

그들은 네겝으로 올라가 헤브론에 이르렀다. 거기에는 아나킴의 후손인 아히만, 세새, 탈매족들이 살고 있었다. 헤브론은 이집트의 소안보다 칠 년 먼저 세워진 도시다.

그들은 에스골 골짜기에 이르러 포도 한 송이를 꺾어서 막대기에 꿰어 둘러메고 왔다. 석류와 무화과도 따왔다.

이스라엘 백성이 거기에서 포도 송이를 따왔다고 해서 그 곳 이름을 에스골 골짜기라고 부르게 된 것이다.

가나안 땅을 정탐하고 돌아오는 데 사십 일이 걸렸다.

they proceeded to come to Moses and Aaron and to all the congregation of the sons of Israel in the wilderness of Paran, at Kadesh; and they brought back word to them and to all the congregation and showed them the fruit of the land.

Thus they told him, and said, "We went in to the land where you sent us; and it certainly does flow with milk and honey, and this is its fruit.

"Nevertheless, the people who live in the land are strong, and the cities are fortified and very large; and moreover, we saw the descendants of Anak there.

"Amalek is living in the land of the Negev and the Hittites and the Jebusites and the Amorites are living in the hill country, and the Canaanites are living by the sea and by the side of the Jordan."

Then Caleb quieted the people before Moses and said, "We should by all means go up and take possession of it, for we will surely overcome it."

그들은 바란 광야 카데스에 있는 모세와 아론과 이스라엘 백성의 온 회중에게로 돌아왔다. 그들은 모세와 아론과 온 회중 앞에 그 땅의 과일을 보여주며 보고하였다.

그들은 모세에게 다음과 같이 보고하였다. "당신께서 우리를 보내신 땅에 가보았더니, 과연 젖과 꿀이 흐르는 곳이었습니다. 이것이 그 지방의 과일입니다.

거기에 사는 사람들은 키가 장대 같습니다. 그리고 성곽 도시들은 정말 굉장합니다. 더구나 우리는 거기에서 아나킴의 후손도 보았습니다.

네겝 지방에는 아말렉 사람들이 살고 있고, 헷족과 여부스족과 아모리족은 산악 지대에 살고 있습니다. 가나안 사람들은 바닷가와 요르단 강을 끼고 살고 있습니다."

갈렙이 모세 앞으로 술렁대며 모여드는 백성을 진정시키면서 외쳤다. "올라갑시다. 올라가서 점령합시다. 점령할 수 있습니다."

But the men who had gone up with him said, "We are not able to go up against the people, for they are too strong for us."

So they gave out to the sons of Israel a bad report of the land which they had spied out, saying, "The land through which we have gone, in spying it out, is a land that devours its inhabitants; and all the people whom we saw in it are men of great size.

"There also we saw the Nephilim (the sons of Anak are part of the Nephilim); and we became like grasshoppers in our own sight, and so we were in their sight."

그러나 그와 함께 갔다 온 사람들은, 그들이 자기들보다 훨씬 더 강하기 때문에 도저히 올라가지 못한다고 하면서

자기들이 가서 정탐한 고장은 사람이 살지 못할 곳이라는 소문을 이스라엘 백성들에게 퍼뜨렸다. "우리가 정탐하고 온 땅에 들어가 살려다가는 도리어 잡혀 먹힐 것이다. 거기에는 키가 장대 같은 사람들이 있더라.

우리가 만난 거인들 가운데는 아나킴말고도 다른 거인족이 또 있더라. 우리는 스스로 보기에도 메뚜기 같았지만 그 사람들 보기에도 그랬을 것이다."
