민수기 22:1-23:30

 이스라엘 자손이 모압 평지에 진을 치자, 위협을 느낀 모압 왕 발락은 우상의 힘이라도 빌려 이를 저지하고자 당대의 유명한 복술가인 발람을 초청하였다. 그러나 하나님께서 발람에게 임하셔서 이스라엘을 저주하는 대신 오히려 축복하게 하셨다.
  
  발락의 발람 초청(22:1-22:41)    
 
  1. Then the sons of Israel journeyed, and camped in the plains of Moab beyond the Jordan opposite Jericho.
  2. Now Balak the son of Zippor saw all that Israel had done to the Amorites.
  3. So Moab was in great fear because of the people, for they were numerous; and Moab was in dread of the sons of Israel.
  4. Moab said to the elders of Midian, "Now this horde will lick up all that is around us, as the ox licks up the grass of the field." And Balak the son of Zippor was king of Moab at that time.
  5. So he sent messengers to Balaam the son of Beor, at Pethor, which is near the River, in the land of the sons of his people, to call him, saying, "Behold, a people came out of Egypt; behold, they cover the surface of the land, and they are living opposite me.
  1. 이스라엘 백성은 또 길을 떠나 예리고 근방, 요르단 건너편 모압 평야에 이르러 진을 쳤다.
  2. 시뽈의 아들 발락은 이스라엘이 아모리인들에게 한 일을 다 보았다.
  3. 모압인들은 이스라엘 백성의 수효가 너무나 많아 무서워서 어쩔 줄을 몰랐다. 그들은 이스라엘 사람을 보고 몹시 겁에 질려
  4. 미디안 장로들에게 대책을 물었다. "소가 들풀을 뜯어먹듯이 이제 이 무리가 우리 주위에 있는 것을 모조리 먹어버리겠습니다. 그러니 어찌하면 좋겠습니까?" 그 때 모압 왕은 시뽈의 아들 발락이었다.
  5. 그는 큰 강 가, 아마윗 사람들의 땅 브돌로 사절을 보내어 브올의 아들 발람을 불러오게 하였다. "이집트에서 나온 한 민족이 지금 나의 접경에까지 와서 온 땅을 뒤덮고 있소.
  1. "Now, therefore, please come, curse this people for me since they are too mighty for me; perhaps I may be able to defeat them and drive them out of the land. For I know that he whom you bless is blessed, and he whom you curse is cursed."
  2. So the elders of Moab and the elders of Midian departed with the fees for divination in their hand; and they came to Balaam and repeated Balak's words to him.
  3. He said to them, "Spend the night here, and I will bring word back to you as the LORD may speak to me." And the leaders of Moab stayed with Balaam.
  4. Then God came to Balaam and said, "Who are these men with you?"
  5. Balaam said to God, "Balak the son of Zippor, king of Moab, has sent word to me,
  1. 어찌나 많은지 나로서는 당할 수가 없으니, 곧 와서 그 백성을 저주해 주시오. 그들을 쳐서 이 땅에서 몰아낼 수 있다면 얼마나 좋겠소? 그대가 복을 빌어주는 사람은 복을 받고 저주하는 사람은 저주를 받는 줄을 나는 아오."
  2. 모압 장로들과 미디안 장로들은 복채를 가지고 길을 떠났다. 그들이 발람에게 가서 발락의 말을 전하자
  3. 발람은 이렇게 말하였다. "여기에서 하룻밤 묵으시오. 야훼께서 나에게 이르시는 말씀을 듣고 나서 가부간 대답해 드리리다." 그래서 모압의 고관들은 발람과 함께 묵었다.
  4. 하느님께서 발람에게 오시어 물으셨다. "너를 찾아온 이 사람들이 누구냐?"
  5. 발람은 "시뽈의 아들인 모압 왕 발락의 보냄을 받고 온 사람들입니다." 하며 하느님께 아뢰었다.
  1. 'Behold, there is a people who came out of Egypt and they cover the surface of the land; now come, curse them for me; perhaps I may be able to fight against them and drive them out.'"
  2. God said to Balaam, "Do not go with them; you shall not curse the people, for they are blessed."
  3. So Balaam arose in the morning and said to Balak's leaders, "Go back to your land, for the LORD has refused to let me go with you."
  4. The leaders of Moab arose and went to Balak and said, "Balaam refused to come with us."
  5. Then Balak again sent leaders, more numerous and more distinguished than the former.
  1. "한 민족이 이집트에서 나와 온 땅을 뒤덮었으니 어서 와서 그들을 저주해 달라고 합니다. 그들을 쳐서 쫓아낼 수 있게 해달라는 것입니다."
  2. 하느님께서 발람에게 이르셨다. "그들을 따라가지 마라. 또 그 백성은 복을 받은 백성이니 저주하면 안 된다."
  3. 발람은 아침에 일어나 발락이 보낸 고관들에게 일렀다. "어서들 고국으로 돌아가시오. 야훼께서는 나에게 당신들을 따라가도록 허락하지 않으셨소."
  4. 그리하여 모압의 고관들은 길을 떠나 발락에게 돌아와서 발람이 따라와 주지 않겠다 하더라고 보고하였다.
  5. 발락은 다시 그들보다도 높은 고관들을 더 많이 보냈다.
  1. They came to Balaam and said to him, "Thus says Balak the son of Zippor, 'Let nothing, I beg you, hinder you from coming to me;
  2. for I will indeed honor you richly, and I will do whatever you say to me. Please come then, curse this people for me.'"
  3. Balaam replied to the servants of Balak, "Though Balak were to give me his house full of silver and gold, I could not do anything, either small or great, contrary to the command of the LORD my God.
  4. "Now please, you also stay here tonight, and I will find out what else the LORD will speak to me."
  5. God came to Balaam at night and said to him, "If the men have come to call you, rise up and go with them; but only the word which I speak to you shall you do."
  1. 그들이 발람에게 가서 말을 전하였다. "시뽈의 아들 발락의 전갈입니다. '나의 청을 거절하지 말고 부디 와주시오.
  2. 잘 대우해 드리리다. 무엇이든지 요구하는 대로 해줄 터이니 부디 와서 이 백성을 저주해 주시오.'"
  3. 발람이 발락의 신하들에게 대답하였다. "발락이 그의 궁궐에 가득 찬 금과 은을 준다고 하여도 나는 갈 수가 없소. 큰 일이건 작은 일이건 나는 절대로 나의 하느님 야훼의 명령을 어길 수 없소.
  4. 그러나 하룻밤만 여기에 묵어보시오. 야훼께서 다시 나에게 무슨 말씀을 하실는지 알아보리다."
  5. 그 날 밤 하느님께서 발람에게 오시어 말씀하셨다. "이 사람들이 너를 부르러 왔다면 그들과 함께 가거라. 그러나 너는 내가 시키는 대로만 해야 한다."
  1. So Balaam arose in the morning, and saddled his donkey and went with the leaders of Moab.
  2. But God was angry because he was going, and the angel of the LORD took his stand in the way as an adversary against him. Now he was riding on his donkey and his two servants were with him.
  3. When the donkey saw the angel of the LORD standing in the way with his drawn sword in his hand, the donkey turned off from the way and went into the field; but Balaam struck the donkey to turn her back into the way.
  4. Then the angel of the LORD stood in a narrow path of the vineyards, with a wall on this side and a wall on that side.
  5. When the donkey saw the angel of the LORD, she pressed herself to the wall and pressed Balaam's foot against the wall, so he struck her again.
  1. 발람은 아침에 일어나 나귀에 안장을 얹고 모압 고관들을 따라 나섰다.
  2. 하느님은 발람이 가는 것을 보시고 몹시 화가 나셨다. 야훼께서 보내신 천사가 그의 길을 가로막고 섰다. 마침 발람은 나귀를 타고 두 종을 거느리고 있었다.
  3. 야훼의 천사가 칼을 빼든 채 길을 가로막고 서 있는 것을 보고, 나귀가 길을 벗어나 밭으로 들어가자 발람은 나귀를 때려 길로 들어서게 하였다.
  4. 그러자 야훼의 천사는 다시 포도밭 사잇길을 막고 섰다. 길 양쪽에는 담이 있었는데,
  5. 나귀가 야훼의 천사를 보고 벽에 몸을 비비는 바람에 발람의 다리가 벽에 긁히자 그는 다시 채찍질을 하였다.
  1. The angel of the LORD went further, and stood in a narrow place where there was no way to turn to the right hand or the left.
  2. When the donkey saw the angel of the LORD, she lay down under Balaam; so Balaam was angry and struck the donkey with his stick.
  3. And the LORD opened the mouth of the donkey, and she said to Balaam, "What have I done to you, that you have struck me these three times?"
  4. Then Balaam said to the donkey, "Because you have made a mockery of me! If there had been a sword in my hand, I would have killed you by now."
  5. The donkey said to Balaam, "Am I not your donkey on which you have ridden all your life to this day? Have I ever been accustomed to do so to you?" And he said, "No."
  1. 야훼의 천사가 더 다가서며 오른쪽으로도 왼쪽으로도 몸을 뺄 수 없는 좁은 골목으로 몰아 세웠다.
  2. 나귀가 야훼의 천사를 보고 발람을 태운 채 털썩 주저앉자 발람은 화가 나서 지팡이로 나귀를 때렸다.
  3. 마침내 야훼께서 나귀의 입을 열어주시니 나귀가 발람에게 항의하였다. "내가 무슨 못할 짓을 했다고 이렇게 세 번씩이나 때리십니까?"
  4. 발람이 나귀에게 "네가 이렇게 나를 놀리지 않았느냐? 내 손에 칼만 있었으면 당장 쳐죽였을 것이다." 하고 말하자
  5. 나귀가 발람에게 말했다. "나는 당신의 나귀가 아닙니까? 오늘날까지 당신은 나를 줄곧 타고 다니셨는데 내가 언제 주인께 이런 일을 한 일이 있었습니까?" 그가 대답하였다. "없었다."
  1. Then the LORD opened the eyes of Balaam, and he saw the angel of the LORD standing in the way with his drawn sword in his hand; and he bowed all the way to the ground.
  2. The angel of the LORD said to him, "Why have you struck your donkey these three times? Behold, I have come out as an adversary, because your way was contrary to me.
  3. "But the donkey saw me and turned aside from me these three times. If she had not turned aside from me, I would surely have killed you just now, and let her live."
  4. Balaam said to the angel of the LORD, "I have sinned, for I did not know that you were standing in the way against me. Now then, if it is displeasing to you, I will turn back."
  5. But the angel of the LORD said to Balaam, "Go with the men, but you shall speak only the word which I tell you." So Balaam went along with the leaders of Balak.
  1. 그 때에 야훼께서 발람의 눈을 열어주셨다. 그제야 야훼의 천사가 칼을 뽑아든 채 길을 가로막고 서 있는 모습을 본 발람은 고개를 숙이며 땅에 엎드렸다.
  2. 야훼의 천사가 입을 열었다. "어찌하여 너는 네 나귀를 이렇게 세 번씩이나 때렸느냐? 너는 지금 내 눈에 거슬리는 길을 가고 있다. 그래서 내가 이렇게 나와 너를 막아 선 것이다.
  3. 나귀가 나를 보고 세 번이나 내 앞을 피했기에 망정이지, 그러지 않았더라면 나는 나귀만 살려주고 너는 이미 죽였을 것이다."
  4. 발람이 야훼의 천사에게 아뢰었다. "제가 잘못하였습니다. 당신께서 저의 길을 막아 서셨으리라고는 꿈에도 생각하지 못했습니다. 당신 눈에 거슬리는 길이라면 당장 돌아가겠습니다."
  5. 야훼의 천사가 발람에게 "이 사람들을 따라가거라. 그러나 너는 내가 시키는 말만 해야 한다." 하고 말하자 발람은 발락이 보낸 고관들을 따라 발길을 옮겼다.
  1. When Balak heard that Balaam was coming, he went out to meet him at the city of Moab, which is on the Arnon border, at the extreme end of the border.
  2. Then Balak said to Balaam, "Did I not urgently send to you to call you? Why did you not come to me? Am I really unable to honor you?"
  3. So Balaam said to Balak, "Behold, I have come now to you! Am I able to speak anything at all? The word that God puts in my mouth, that I shall speak."
  4. And Balaam went with Balak, and they came to Kiriath-huzoth.
  5. Balak sacrificed oxen and sheep, and sent some to Balaam and the leaders who were with him.
  1. 발락은 발람이 온다는 소식을 듣고 아르논 강 가 국경 도시 아르모압에 이르러 그를 맞으며
  2. 말하였다. "내가 당신을 모시려고 그렇게 사람을 보냈는데도 왜 오지 않으셨소? 내가 당신을 잘 대우해 드리지 못할 줄 아셨소?"
  3. 발람이 발락에게 대답하였다. "지금 이렇게 오지 않았습니까? 하지만 내가 무슨 말을 할 수 있겠습니까? 하느님께서 내 입에 넣어주시는 말씀밖에는 아무 말도 하지 못합니다."
  4. 발람은 발락과 동행하여 후솟 마을에 이르렀다.
  5. 발락은 소와 양을 잡아 제물로 바치고 발람과 그를 따라온 고관들에게도 보내주었다.
  1. Then it came about in the morning that Balak took Balaam and brought him up to the high places of Baal, and he saw from there a portion of the people.
  1. 아침이 되어 발락은 발람을 데리고 이스라엘 백성의 진지가 끝까지 내려다보이는 바알 산당으로 올라갔다.
 
  발람의 예언(23:1-23:30)    
 
  1. Then Balaam said to Balak, "Build seven altars for me here, and prepare seven bulls and seven rams for me here."
  2. Balak did just as Balaam had spoken, and Balak and Balaam offered up a bull and a ram on each altar.
  3. Then Balaam said to Balak, "Stand beside your burnt offering, and I will go; perhaps the LORD will come to meet me, and whatever He shows me I will tell you." So he went to a bare hill.
  4. Now God met Balaam, and he said to Him, "I have set up the seven altars, and I have offered up a bull and a ram on each altar."
  5. Then the LORD put a word in Balaam's mouth and said, "Return to Balak, and you shall speak thus."
  1. 발람이 발락에게 말하였다. "여기에 제단 일곱을 쌓고 중송아지 일곱 마리와 숫양 일곱 마리를 잡아오시오."
  2. 발락은 발람이 시키는 대로 제단마다에 중송아지와 숫양을 한 마리씩 바쳤다.
  3. 그러자 발람이 발락에게 부탁하였다. "자리를 뜨지 마시고 이 번제물들 옆에 서 계시오. 내가 갔다 오겠습니다. 야훼께서 나에게 나타나 주시기를 바랍니다. 그가 나에게 무엇을 보여주시든지 그대로 알려드리리다." 그리고 그는 꼭대기로 올라갔다.
  4. 마침 하느님께서 발람을 찾아오셨다. 발람이 아뢰었다. "일곱 제단을 쌓았고 제단마다에 중송아지와 숫양을 한 마리씩 바쳤습니다."
  5. 야훼께서 발람의 입에 말씀을 넣어주시면서 이르셨다. "발락에게로 돌아가 이러이러하게 일러라."
  1. So he returned to him, and behold, he was standing beside his burnt offering, he and all the leaders of Moab.
  2. He took up his discourse and said, "From Aram Balak has brought me, Moab's king from the mountains of the East, 'Come curse Jacob for me, And come, denounce Israel!'
  3. "How shall I curse whom God has not cursed? And how can I denounce whom the LORD has not denounced?
  4. "As I see him from the top of the rocks, And I look at him from the hills; Behold, a people who dwells apart, And will not be reckoned among the nations.
  5. "Who can count the dust of Jacob, Or number the fourth part of Israel? Let me die the death of the upright, And let my end be like his!"
  1. 발람이 발락에게 돌아와 보니, 그는 모압의 모든 고관들과 함께 번제물 옆을 떠나지 않고 지켜 서 있었다.
  2. 그는 푸념하듯이 읊었다. "발락이 나를 아람에서 데려왔겠다. 모압 임금이 나를 동쪽 산골에서 데려왔겠다. 와서 제 편이 되어 야곱을 저주해 달라고, 와서 제 편이 되어 이스라엘을 욕해 달라고 하였지만,
  3. 하느님께서 저주하시지 않는 자를 내가 어찌 저주하랴. 야훼께서 욕하시지 않는 자를 내가 어찌 욕하랴.
  4. 이 바위 봉우리에서 내려다 보고 이 언덕에서 굽어보니, 아, 저 백성, 남과 섞여 살지 않는 민족, 과연 만방에 견줄 데 없는 민족이구나.
  5. 야곱은 티끌 같아 헤아릴 수 없고 이스라엘은 먼지 같아 셀 수도 없구나. 내 목숨이 올바른 사람처럼 끝났으면! 내 여생도 그들과 같았으면!"
  1. Then Balak said to Balaam, "What have you done to me? I took you to curse my enemies, but behold, you have actually blessed them!"
  2. He replied, "Must I not be careful to speak what the LORD puts in my mouth?"
  3. Then Balak said to him, "Please come with me to another place from where you may see them, although you will only see the extreme end of them and will not see all of them; and curse them for me from there."
  4. So he took him to the field of Zophim, to the top of Pisgah, and built seven altars and offered a bull and a ram on each altar.
  5. And he said to Balak, "Stand here beside your burnt offering while I myself meet the LORD over there."
  1. 발락이 발람에게 말하였다. "웬일이오? 원수들을 저주해 달라고 청해 왔는데 도리어 복을 빌어주다니!"
  2. 발람이 발락에게 "야훼께서 내 입에 담아주신 말씀말고 무슨 말을 하란 말이오?" 하고 대답하자
  3. 발락은 그에게 다른 곳으로 가자고 하였다. "저자들이 다 보이지 않고 조금만 보이는 곳으로 갑시다. 거기에서 그들을 저주해 주시오."
  4. 그러면서 그는 비스가 산 꼭대기 감시소가 있는 곳으로 발람을 데리고 갔다. 거기에서도 그는 제단 일곱을 쌓고 제단마다에 중송아지와 숫양을 한 마리씩 바쳤다.
  5. 발람이 발락에게 말하였다. "내가 저리로 가서 야훼께서 나타나시기를 기다리는 동안 당신은 자리를 뜨지 말고 이 번제물들 옆에 서 계시오."
  1. Then the LORD met Balaam and put a word in his mouth and said, "Return to Balak, and thus you shall speak."
  2. He came to him, and behold, he was standing beside his burnt offering, and the leaders of Moab with him. And Balak said to him, "What has the LORD spoken?"
  3. Then he took up his discourse and said, "Arise, O Balak, and hear; Give ear to me, O son of Zippor!
  4. "God is not a man, that He should lie, Nor a son of man, that He should repent; Has He said, and will He not do it? Or has He spoken, and will He not make it good?
  5. "Behold, I have received a command to bless; When He has blessed, then I cannot revoke it.
  1. 야훼께서 발람에게 나타나시어 그의 입에 말씀을 담아주시면서 "발락에게로 돌아가서 이러이러하게 말하여라." 하고 일러주셨다.
  2. 발람이 그에게로 돌아와 보니, 그는 모압의 고관들과 함께 번제물을 떠나지 않고 지켜 서 있었다. 발락은 야훼께서 뭐라고 하시더냐고 발람에게 물었다.
  3. 그는 푸념하듯이 읊었다. "발락이여, 일어나 들으시오. 시뽈의 아들이여, 내 말에 귀를 기울이시오.
  4. 하느님께서는 사람처럼 거짓말하실 리도 없고 사람의 아들처럼 변덕을 부리실 리도 없으시다오. 말씀만 하시고 그대로 하지 않으실 리 없고 하신 말씀을 그대로 이루지 않으실 리 없으시다오.
  5. 그런데 여보시오. 그가 복을 주시는데 따르지 않을 수 없고 그가 복을 주시는데 뒤엎을 수 없는 노릇 아니오?
  1. "He has not observed misfortune in Jacob; Nor has He seen trouble in Israel; The LORD his God is with him, And the shout of a king is among them.
  2. "God brings them out of Egypt, He is for them like the horns of the wild ox.
  3. "For there is no omen against Jacob, Nor is there any divination against Israel; At the proper time it shall be said to Jacob And to Israel, what God has done!
  4. "Behold, a people rises like a lioness, And as a lion it lifts itself; It will not lie down until it devours the prey, And drinks the blood of the slain."
  5. Then Balak said to Balaam, "Do not curse them at all nor bless them at all!"
  1. 야곱에겐 재앙일랑 보이지도 않는군요. 이스라엘에겐 불행일랑 비치지도 않는군요. 그들을 보살피시는 야훼 하느님을 왕으로 맞이하는 소리 우렁차군요.
  2. 그들을 이집트에서 이끌어내신 하느님께서 들소 뿔처럼 그들을 지켜주시는군요.
  3. 야곱을 꺾을 마술이 없고 이스라엘을 칠 술법이 없소이다. 이제는 사람들이 야곱에게 말하리다. '하느님께서 이렇듯이 큰일을 하셨구나.' 하고 이스라엘에게 말하리다.
  4. 보아라, 사자처럼 일어나는 백성을! 사자처럼 한번 몸을 일으키면 잡아먹지 않고는 눕지 않는구나. 잡은 짐승의 피를 다 핥지 않고는 눕지 않는구나."
  5. 발락이 발람에게 화를 내었다. "좋소! 그들을 저주하지 마시오. 그러나 축복도 하지 마시오."
  1. But Balaam replied to Balak, "Did I not tell you, 'Whatever the LORD speaks, that I must do'?"
  2. Then Balak said to Balaam, "Please come, I will take you to another place; perhaps it will be agreeable with God that you curse them for me from there."
  3. So Balak took Balaam to the top of Peor which overlooks the wasteland.
  4. Balaam said to Balak, "Build seven altars for me here and prepare seven bulls and seven rams for me here."
  5. Balak did just as Balaam had said, and offered up a bull and a ram on each altar.
  1. 발람이 발락에게 말하였다. "야훼께서 일러주시는 것밖에는 아무 말도 하지 못한다고 말씀드리지 않았습니까?"
  2. 발락이 발람에게 다시 청하였다. "내가 당신을 다른 데로 모시겠소. 그리로 갑시다. 행여 그 곳이 하느님의 눈에 들어, 그들을 저주해 주신다면 얼마나 좋겠소?"
  3. 발락은 발람을 데리고 광야가 내려다보이는 브올 산 꼭대기로 올라갔다.
  4. 발람이 발락에게 일렀다. "여기에 일곱 제단을 세우고 중송아지 일곱 마리와 숫양 일곱 마리를 마련해 오시오."
  5. 발락은 발람의 말대로 제단마다에 중송아지와 숫양을 한 마리씩 바쳤다.
