- It was at this time that He went off to the mountain to pray, and He spent the whole night in prayer to God.
- And when day came, He called His disciples to Him and chose twelve of them, whom He also named as apostles:
- Simon, whom He also named Peter, and Andrew his brother; and James and John; and Philip and Bartholomew;
- and Matthew and Thomas; James the son of Alphaeus, and Simon who was called the Zealot;
- Judas the son of James, and Judas Iscariot, who became a traitor.

- 그 무렵에 예수께서는 기도하시려고 산에 들어가 밤을 새우시며 하느님께 기도하셨다.
- 날이 밝자 예수께서 제자들을 불러 그 중에서 열둘을 뽑아 사도로 삼으셨다.
- 열두 사도는 베드로라는 이름을 주신 시몬과 그의 동생 안드레아, 야고보와 요한, 필립보와 바르톨로메오,
- 마태오와 토마, 알패오의 아들 야고보와 혁명당원 시몬,
- 야고보의 아들 유다, 그리고 후에 배반자가 된 가리옷 사람 유다이다.

- Jesus came down with them and stood on a level place; and there was a large crowd of His disciples, and a great throng of people from all Judea and Jerusalem and the coastal region of Tyre and Sidon,
- who had come to hear Him and to be healed of their diseases; and those who were troubled with unclean spirits were being cured.
- And all the people were trying to touch Him, for power was coming from Him and healing them all.
- And turning His gaze toward His disciples, He began to say, "Blessed are you who are poor, for yours is the kingdom of God.
- "Blessed are you who hunger now, for you shall be satisfied. Blessed are you who weep now, for you shall laugh.

- 예수께서 그들과 함께 산에서 내려와 평지에 이르러 보니 거기에 많은 제자들과 함께 유다 각 지방과 예루살렘과 해안 지방인 띠로와 시돈에서 온 사람들이 많이 모여 있었다.
- 그들은 예수의 말씀도 듣고 병도 고치려고 온 사람들이었다. 그 중에는 더러운 악령에 걸려 고생하는 사람들도 있었는데 예수께서는 그들도 고쳐주셨다.
- 이렇게 예수에게서 기적의 힘이 나와 누구든지 다 낫는 것을 보고는 모든 사람이 저마다 예수를 만지려고 하였다.
- 그 때에 예수께서 제자들을 바라보시며 말씀하셨다. "가난한 사람들아, 너희는 행복하다. 하느님 나라가 너희의 것이다.
- 지금 굶주린 사람들아, 너희는 행복하다. 너희가 배부르게 될 것이다. 지금 우는 사람들아, 너희는 행복하다. 너희가 웃게 될 것이다.

- "Blessed are you when men hate you, and ostracize you, and insult you, and scorn your name as evil, for the sake of the Son of Man.
- "Be glad in that day and leap for joy, for behold, your reward is great in heaven For in the same way their fathers used to treat the prophets.
- "But woe to you who are rich, for you are receiving your comfort in full.
- "Woe to you who are well-fed now, for you shall be hungry. Woe to you who laugh now, for you shall mourn and weep.
- "Woe to you when all men speak well of you, for their fathers used to treat the false prophets in the same way.

- 사람의 아들 때문에 사람들에게 미움을 사고 내어쫓기고 욕을 먹고 누명을 쓰면 너희는 행복하다.
- 그럴 때에 너희는 기뻐하고 즐거워하여라. 하늘에서 너희가 받을 상이 클 것이다. 그들의 조상들도 예언자들을 그렇게 대하였다.
- 그러나 부요한 사람들아, 너희는 불행하다. 너희는 이미 받을 위로를 다 받았다.
- 지금 배불리 먹고 지내는 사람들아, 너희는 불행하다. 너희가 굶주릴 날이 올 것이다. 지금 웃고 지내는 사람들아, 너희는 불행하다. 너희가 슬퍼하며 울 날이 올 것이다.
- 모든 사람에게 칭찬을 받는 사람들아, 너희는 불행하다. 그들의 조상들도 거짓 예언자들을 그렇게 대하였다."

- "But I say to you who hear, love your enemies, do good to those who hate you,
- bless those who curse you, pray for those who mistreat you.
- "Whoever hits you on the cheek, offer him the other also; and whoever takes away your coat, do not withhold your shirt from him either.
- "Give to everyone who asks of you, and whoever takes away what is yours, do not demand it back.
- "Treat others the same way you want them to treat you.

- "그러나 이제 내 말을 듣는 사람들아, 잘 들어라. 너희는 원수를 사랑하여라. 너희를 미워하는 사람들에게 잘해 주고
- 너희를 저주하는 사람들을 축복해 주어라. 그리고 너희를 학대하는 사람들을 위하여 기도해 주어라.
- 누가 뺨을 치거든 다른 뺨마저 돌려대 주고 누가 겉옷을 빼앗거든 속옷마저 내어주어라.
- 달라는 사람에게는 주고 빼앗는 사람에게는 되받으려고 하지 마라.
- 너희는 남에게서 바라는 대로 남에게 해주어라.

- "If you love those who love you, what credit is that to you? For even sinners love those who love them.
- "If you do good to those who do good to you, what credit is that to you? For even sinners do the same.
- "If you lend to those from whom you expect to receive, what credit is that to you? Even sinners lend to sinners in order to receive back the same amount.
- "But love your enemies, and do good, and lend, expecting nothing in return; and your reward will be great, and you will be sons of the Most High; for He Himself is kind to ungrateful and evil men.
- "Be merciful, just as your Father is merciful.

- 너희가 만일 자기를 사랑하는 사람만 사랑한다면 칭찬받을 것이 무엇이겠느냐? 죄인들도 자기를 사랑하는 사람은 사랑한다.
- 너희가 만일 자기한테 잘해 주는 사람에게만 잘해 준다면 칭찬받을 것이 무엇이겠느냐? 죄인들도 그만큼은 한다.
- 너희가 만일 되받을 가망이 있는 사람에게만 꾸어준다면 칭찬받을 것이 무엇이겠느냐? 죄인들도 고스란히 되받을 것을 알면 서로 꾸어준다.
- 그러나 너희는 원수를 사랑하고 남에게 좋은 일을 해주어라. 그리고 되받을 생각을 말고 꾸어주어라. 그러면 너희가 받을 상이 클 것이며 너희는 지극히 높으신 분의 자녀가 될 것이다. 그분은 은혜를 모르는 자들과 악한 자들에게도 인자하시다.
- 그러니 너희의 아버지께서 자비로우신 것같이 너희도 자비로운 사람이 되어라."

- "Do not judge, and you will not be judged; and do not condemn, and you will not be condemned; pardon, and you will be pardoned.
- "Give, and it will be given to you. They will pour into your lap a good measure--pressed down, shaken together, and running over. For by your standard of measure it will be measured to you in return."

- "남을 비판하지 마라. 그러면 너희도 비판받지 않을 것이다. 남을 단죄하지 마라. 그러면 너희도 단죄받지 않을 것이다. 남을 용서하여라. 그러면 너희도 용서를 받을 것이다.
- 남에게 주어라. 그러면 너희도 받을 것이다. 말에다 누르고 흔들어 넘치도록 후하게 담아서 너희에게 안겨주실 것이다. 너희가 남에게 되어 주는 분량만큼 너희도 받을 것이다."
