신명기 3:23-4:49

 모세는 하나님께 가나안에 들어가게 해주실 것을 간구했으나, 그의 소원은 응답받지 못했다. 그는 이스라엘 백성에게 하나님의 법도와 규례에 순종할 것을 교훈했으며, 특별히 우상 숭배를 금하고 하나님의 형상을 제작해서는 안 된다는 점을 강조했다. 모세는 과실 치사를 범한 자들이 피하여 목숨을 보전할 수 있도록 요단 동편에 세 개의 도피성을 지정했다.
  
  모세의 간구(3:23-3:29)    
 
  1. "I also pleaded with the LORD at that time, saying,
  2. 'O Lord GOD, You have begun to show Your servant Your greatness and Your strong hand; for what god is there in heaven or on earth who can do such works and mighty acts as Yours?
  3. 'Let me, I pray, cross over and see the fair land that is beyond the Jordan, that good hill country and Lebanon.'
  4. "But the LORD was angry with me on your account, and would not listen to me; and the LORD said to me, 'Enough! Speak to Me no more of this matter.
  5. 'Go up to the top of Pisgah and lift up your eyes to the west and north and south and east, and see it with your eyes, for you shall not cross over this Jordan.
  1. 그리고 나는 야훼께 빌었다.
  2. '나의 주 야훼여! 주께서 그 억센 손으로 주님의 위대하심을 비로소 저에게 보이셨습니다. 주님의 위력을 나타내신 것과 같은 일을 하늘이나 땅에 있는 어떤 신이 할 수 있겠습니까?
  3. 부디 저도 건너가게 해주십시오. 요르단 강 건너 저 아름다운 땅, 저 풍요한 산과 레바논을 보게 해주십시오.'
  4. 그러나 야훼께서는 너희 때문에 나에게 노여움을 품으시어 나의 간청을 들어주지 않으셨다. '너는 이 이상 더 바랄 것이 없다. 또다시 이 일로 나에게 간청하지 마라.
  5. 비스가 산 꼭대기에 올라가 서쪽과 북쪽과 남쪽과 동쪽을 네 눈으로 둘러보아라. 너는 요르단 강을 건너지 못하리라.
  1. 'But charge Joshua and encourage him and strengthen him, for he shall go across at the head of this people, and he will give them as an inheritance the land which you will see.'
  2. "So we remained in the valley opposite Beth-peor.
  1. 너는 여호수아에게 네 직책을 맡겨라. 그를 격려하며 용기를 넣어주어라. 여호수아야말로 이 백성의 앞장을 서서 네가 보는 땅에 건너가 그들에게 그 땅을 나누어줄 자이다.'
  2. 우리가 벳브올 맞은편 골짜기에 머물러 있을 때의 일이다.
 
  야웨 율법의 준수(4:1-4:49)    
 
  1. "Now, O Israel, listen to the statutes and the judgments which I am teaching you to perform, so that you may live and go in and take possession of the land which the LORD, the God of your fathers, is giving you.
  2. "You shall not add to the word which I am commanding you, nor take away from it, that you may keep the commandments of the LORD your God which I command you.
  3. "Your eyes have seen what the LORD has done in the case of Baal-peor, for all the men who followed Baal-peor, the LORD your God has destroyed them from among you.
  4. "But you who held fast to the LORD your God are alive today, every one of you.
  5. "See, I have taught you statutes and judgments just as the LORD my God commanded me, that you should do thus in the land where you are entering to possess it.
  1. 너 이스라엘은 들어라. 내가 오늘 너희에게 가르쳐주는 규정과 법규를 듣고 지켜라. 그래야 너희는 너희 선조의 하느님 야훼께서 너희에게 주시는 땅으로 들어가 그 땅을 차지하고 행복하게 살 것이다.
  2. 내가 너희에게 명령하는 말은 한마디도 보태거나 빼지 못한다. 내가 받들어 너희에게 전하는 너희 하느님 야훼의 계명들을 너희는 지켜야 한다.
  3. 야훼께서 바알브올에서 하신 일을 너희는 두 눈으로 똑똑히 보았다. 브올의 바알 신을 따라간 사람을 너의 하느님 야훼께서는 모두 너희 가운데서 쓸어버리셨다.
  4. 그러나 너희의 하느님 야훼께 신실하였던 너희는 오늘 이렇게 모두 살아 있다.
  5. 보아라. 나는 우리 하느님 야훼께서 나에게 내리신 규정들과 법규들을 그대로 너희에게 가르쳐주었다. 너희가 들어가 차지할 땅에서 그대로 살게 하려는 것이다.
  1. "So keep and do them, for that is your wisdom and your understanding in the sight of the peoples who will hear all these statutes and say, 'Surely this great nation is a wise and understanding people.'
  2. "For what great nation is there that has a god so near to it as is the LORD our God whenever we call on Him?
  3. "Or what great nation is there that has statutes and judgments as righteous as this whole law which I am setting before you today?
  4. "Only give heed to yourself and keep your soul diligently, so that you do not forget the things which your eyes have seen and they do not depart from your heart all the days of your life; but make them known to your sons and your grandsons.
  5. "Remember the day you stood before the LORD your God at Horeb, when the LORD said to me, 'Assemble the people to Me, that I may let them hear My words so they may learn to fear Me all the days they live on the earth, and that they may teach their children.'
  1. 너희는 그것들을 성심껏 지켜야 한다. 그것을 보고 다른 민족들이 너희가 지혜 있고 슬기롭다는 것을 알게 될 것이다. 사람들은 이 모든 규정을 듣고, '정녕 지혜 있고 슬기로운 백성은 이 위대한 민족밖에 없다.'고 할 것이다.
  2. 우리 하느님 야훼께서는 우리가 부를 때마다 가까이 계셔주시는 분이시다. 그처럼 가까이 계셔주시는 신을 모신 위대한 민족이 어디 또 있겠느냐?
  3. 내가 오늘 너희 앞에 선포하는 이 모든 법만큼 바른 규정과 법규를 가진 위대한 민족이 어디 또 있겠느냐?
  4. 정신차려 스스로 삼가고 조심하여라. 너희가 두 눈으로 본 것들을 명심하여 잊지 않도록 하여라. 평생토록 그것들이 너희의 마음에서 사라지지 않게 하여라. 그리고 그것을 자자손손 깨우쳐주어라.
  5. 너희가 호렙에서 너희 하느님 야훼 앞에 섰던 날, 야훼께서는 나에게 말씀하셨다. '이 백성을 나에게로 불러모아라. 내가 그들에게 할 말이 있다. 이 백성은 땅에서 사는 동안 언제나 이 말을 따라 나를 경외하는 길을 배워야 한다. 그리고 이 말을 자손들에게 가르쳐야 한다.'
  1. "You came near and stood at the foot of the mountain, and the mountain burned with fire to the very heart of the heavens: darkness, cloud and thick gloom.
  2. "Then the LORD spoke to you from the midst of the fire; you heard the sound of words, but you saw no form--only a voice.
  3. "So He declared to you His covenant which He commanded you to perform, that is, the Ten Commandments; and He wrote them on two tablets of stone.
  4. "The LORD commanded me at that time to teach you statutes and judgments, that you might perform them in the land where you are going over to possess it.
  5. "So watch yourselves carefully, since you did not see any form on the day the LORD spoke to you at Horeb from the midst of the fire,
  1. 그리하여 너희가 산기슭에 나와 서자 그 산은 하늘 한가운데까지 치솟는 불길에 휩싸였다. 그리고 음산한 구름이 덮여 캄캄한데
  2. 야훼께서 불길 속에서 말씀하셨다. 그러나 너희는 말씀하시는 소리만 들었지 아무런 모습도 보지 못했다. 다만 소리가 있을 뿐이었다.
  3. 그 때 너희에게 선포하신 것은 당신의 계약이었다. 그것은 곧 너희에게 실천하라고 명령하신 열 조목이었다. 하느님께서는 그것을 두 돌판에 새겨주셨다.
  4. 너희가 건너가 차지할 땅에서 지킬 규정과 법규를 너희에게 가르쳐주라고 그 때 야훼께서 나에게 분부하셨다.
  5. 그러므로 너희는 깊이 명심하여라. 야훼께서 호렙의 불길 속에서 너희에게 말씀하시던 날 너희는 아무 모습도 보지 못하지 않았느냐?
  1. so that you do not act corruptly and make a graven image for yourselves in the form of any figure, the likeness of male or female,
  2. the likeness of any animal that is on the earth, the likeness of any winged bird that flies in the sky,
  3. the likeness of anything that creeps on the ground, the likeness of any fish that is in the water below the earth.
  4. "And beware not to lift up your eyes to heaven and see the sun and the moon and the stars, all the host of heaven, and be drawn away and worship them and serve them, those which the LORD your God has allotted to all the peoples under the whole heaven.
  5. "But the LORD has taken you and brought you out of the iron furnace, from Egypt, to be a people for His own possession, as today.
  1. 그러니 너희는 남자의 모습이든 여자의 모습이든 일체 어떤 모습을 본떠 새긴 우상을 모시어 죄를 짓는 일이 없도록 하여라.
  2. 땅 위에 있는 어떤 짐승의 모습이나 공중에서 날개 치는 어떤 새의 모습이나,
  3. 땅 위를 기어 다니는 어떤 동물의 모습이나 땅 아래 물 속에 있는 어떤 물고기의 모습도 안 된다.
  4. 눈을 하늘로 향하여 해와 달과 별 등 하늘에 있는 모든 천체를 보고 그 앞에 엎드려 예배하고 싶은 유혹에 빠져서도 안 된다. 그런 것들은 너희 하느님 야훼께서 만천하 다른 민족들에게 주어 섬기게 하신 것들이다.
  5. 그러나 야훼께서는 너희를 도가니 같은 이집트에서 건져내시어 오늘 이렇게 당신의 백성으로 삼으신 것이다.
  1. "Now the LORD was angry with me on your account, and swore that I would not cross the Jordan, and that I would not enter the good land which the LORD your God is giving you as an inheritance.
  2. "For I will die in this land, I shall not cross the Jordan, but you shall cross and take possession of this good land.
  3. "So watch yourselves, that you do not forget the covenant of the LORD your God which He made with you, and make for yourselves a graven image in the form of anything against which the LORD your God has commanded you.
  4. "For the LORD your God is a consuming fire, a jealous God.
  5. "When you become the father of children and children's children and have remained long in the land, and act corruptly, and make an idol in the form of anything, and do that which is evil in the sight of the LORD your God so as to provoke Him to anger,
  1. 그런데 야훼께서는 너희 때문에 나에게까지 노여움을 품으시어 맹세하셨다. 나로 하여금 결코 요르단 강을 건너지 못하게 할 것이며 너희 하느님 야훼께서 너희에게 유산으로 주시는 그 좋은 땅에 결코 들어가지 못하게 하시리라고 하셨다.
  2. 나는 이 고장에서 죽어 요르단 강을 건너지 못하겠지만 너희는 건너가서 그 좋은 땅을 차지하여라.
  3. 정신을 차리고 너희 하느님 야훼께서 너희와 맺은 계약을 잊지 않도록 하여라. 그리고 너희 하느님 야훼께서 분부하신 대로 어떤 모습을 본떠서든지 우상을 새겨 모시지 않도록 하여라.
  4. 너희 하느님 야훼께서는 삼키는 불길이시요 질투하는 신이시다.
  5. 너희가 자식을 낳고 그 자식들이 또 자식을 낳아 그 땅에 자리잡은 지 오래 된 후에도 그 짓만은 하지 마라. 무슨 모양으로든지 우상을 새겨놓아 너희 하느님 야훼의 눈에 거슬리는 일은 없도록 하여라. 너희가 만일 그의 마음을 상하게 한다면,
  1. I call heaven and earth to witness against you today, that you will surely perish quickly from the land where you are going over the Jordan to possess it. You shall not live long on it, but will be utterly destroyed.
  2. "The LORD will scatter you among the peoples, and you will be left few in number among the nations where the LORD drives you.
  3. "There you will serve gods, the work of man's hands, wood and stone, which neither see nor hear nor eat nor smell.
  4. "But from there you will seek the LORD your God, and you will find Him if you search for Him with all your heart and all your soul.
  5. "When you are in distress and all these things have come upon you, in the latter days you will return to the LORD your God and listen to His voice.
  1. 내가 오늘 하늘과 땅을 증인으로 삼아 너희에게 다짐해 둔다, 요르단 강을 건너가서 차지할 그 땅에서 너희는 삽시간에 없어지리라. 너희는 거기에서 오래 살지 못하고 멸절될 것이다.
  2. 야훼께서 너희를 여러 민족들 사이에 흩으시리니, 이렇게 야훼께서 너희를 쫓아내시면 쫓겨간 그 곳에 살아 남아 그 민족들 가운데 끼여 살 사람이 얼마 되지 못할 것이다.
  3. 거기에서 너희는 나무와 돌을 가지고 사람이 손으로 만든 신, 보지도 못하고 듣지도 못하며 먹지도 못하고 냄새도 맡지 못하는 신을 예배하게 되리라.
  4. 그러나 너는 거기에서도 너희 하느님 야훼를 찾아야 한다. 애타고 목마르게 찾기만 하면 그를 만날 것이다.
  5. 이 모든 일로 오래 곤경을 당한 후에라도 너희 하느님 야훼께 돌아오면, 너는 그의 목소리를 듣게 될 것이다.
  1. "For the LORD your God is a compassionate God; He will not fail you nor destroy you nor forget the covenant with your fathers which He swore to them.
  2. "Indeed, ask now concerning the former days which were before you, since the day that God created man on the earth, and inquire from one end of the heavens to the other Has anything been done like this great thing, or has anything been heard like it?
  3. "Has any people heard the voice of God speaking from the midst of the fire, as you have heard it, and survived?
  4. "Or has a god tried to go to take for himself a nation from within another nation by trials, by signs and wonders and by war and by a mighty hand and by an outstretched arm and by great terrors, as the LORD your God did for you in Egypt before your eyes?
  5. "To you it was shown that you might know that the LORD, He is God; there is no other besides Him.
  1. 너희 하느님 야훼께서는 자비로우신 신, 너를 버리지도 멸망시키지도 않으시는 신, 맹세로써 너희의 선조들과 맺으신 계약을 잊지 않으시는 신이시다.
  2. 그렇다. 하느님께서 땅 위에 사람을 내신 날부터 오늘에 이르기까지 지나간 어느 세대에게나 물어보아라. 이 끝에서 저 끝에 이르는 하늘에도 물어보아라. 이렇듯이 큰일이 일찍이 있었더냐? 이런 말을 들어본 일이 있었더냐?
  3. 너희처럼, 살아 계시는 하느님께서 불 가운데서 말씀하시는 소리를 듣고도 죽지 않은 백성이 일찍이 있었더냐?
  4. 너희는 너희 하느님 야훼께서 너희를 위하여 이집트를 어떻게 치셨는지 눈으로 보지 않았느냐? 모두들 두려워 떨게 하고 온갖 표적과 기적을 행하며 억센 손으로 치고 팔을 뻗어 싸우면서 한 민족을 딴 민족의 손아귀에서 빼내어 자기 백성으로 삼으려고 나선 신이 있었느냐?
  5. 야훼께서는 너희로 하여금 당신이 바로 하느님이요 다른 신은 없다는 사실을 알게 하시려고 이 일을 보여주신 것이다.
  1. "Out of the heavens He let you hear His voice to discipline you; and on earth He let you see His great fire, and you heard His words from the midst of the fire.
  2. "Because He loved your fathers, therefore He chose their descendants after them And He personally brought you from Egypt by His great power,
  3. driving out from before you nations greater and mightier than you, to bring you in and to give you their land for an inheritance, as it is today.
  4. "Know therefore today, and take it to your heart, that the LORD, He is God in heaven above and on the earth below; there is no other.
  5. "So you shall keep His statutes and His commandments which I am giving you today, that it may go well with you and with your children after you, and that you may live long on the land which the LORD your God is giving you for all time."
  1. 하느님께서는 하늘에서 당신의 소리를 들려주시어 너희를 깨우쳐주셨고 땅 위에서 당신의 큰 불길을 너희에게 보여주셨다. 그래서 너희는 불길 가운데서 들려오는 그의 말씀을 들었던 것이다.
  2. 그는 너희 선조들을 사랑하셔서 그 후손을 택하셨고 몸소 위력을 나타내시어 너희를 이집트에서 이끌어내셨다.
  3. 그리하여 너희보다 많고 강한 민족을 하나하나 네 앞에서 몰아내시고 너희를 그리로 이끌어들이시고는 그 땅을 유산으로 주시어 오늘에 이르게 하신 것이다.
  4. 그러니 너희는 분명히 알아라. 그리고 마음에 새겨두어라. 야훼 바로 그분이 위로 하늘에 계시고 아래로 땅 위에 계시는 하느님이시다! 그분밖에 다른 하느님은 없다.
  5. 너희는 내가 오늘 명령하는 하느님의 규정과 계명을 지켜라. 그래야 너희와 너희 후손이 잘될 것이다. 너희 하느님 야훼께서 너희에게 아주 주시는 땅에서 오래 살 수 있을 것이다."
  1. Then Moses set apart three cities across the Jordan to the east,
  2. that a manslayer might flee there, who unintentionally slew his neighbor without having enmity toward him in time past; and by fleeing to one of these cities he might live:
  3. Bezer in the wilderness on the plateau for the Reubenites, and Ramoth in Gilead for the Gadites, and Golan in Bashan for the Manassites.
  4. Now this is the law which Moses set before the sons of Israel;
  5. these are the testimonies and the statutes and the ordinances which Moses spoke to the sons of Israel, when they came out from Egypt,
  1. 그 때에 모세는 요르단 강 건너 해 뜨는 쪽에 있는 세 성읍을 떼어놓고,
  2. 평소에 앙심을 품은 일도 없이 실수로 동족을 죽인 살인자가 피신할 곳으로 삼았다. 그런 경우 그는 이 성읍들 가운데 어디에든지 피신하면 목숨을 건질 수 있었다.
  3. 그 지정된 곳이란 르우벤 지파가 차지한 고원 지대 빈들의 베셀과 가드 지파가 차지한 길르앗의 라못과 므나쎄 지파가 차지한 바산의 골란이다.
  4. 모세가 이스라엘 백성 앞에 내놓은 법은 다음과 같다.
  5. 이스라엘 백성이 이집트에서 나오던 때에 모세가 그들에게 일러준 훈령과 규정과 법령은 다음과 같다.
  1. across the Jordan, in the valley opposite Beth-peor, in the land of Sihon king of the Amorites who lived at Heshbon, whom Moses and the sons of Israel defeated when they came out from Egypt.
  2. They took possession of his land and the land of Og king of Bashan, the two kings of the Amorites, who were across the Jordan to the east,
  3. from Aroer, which is on the edge of the valley of Arnon, even as far as Mount Sion (that is, Hermon),
  4. with all the Arabah across the Jordan to the east, even as far as the sea of the Arabah, at the foot of the slopes of Pisgah.
  1. 곳은 요르단 강 건너펀, 벳브올 맞은편 골짜기 헤스본에 살던 아모리 왕 시혼의 땅이었다. 그는 모세와 이스라엘 백성이 이집트 땅에서 나오던 때 쳐부순 왕이다.
  2. 그들은 그의 땅뿐 아니라 또 바산 왕 옥의 땅도 차지하였는데, 그들은 요르단 강 건너 해 뜨는 쪽에 있던 아모리인들의 두 왕이었다.
  3. 그 땅은 아르논 계곡 언덕에 있는 아로엘에서 헤르몬이라고도 하는 시룐 산에 이르는 지역과
  4. 요르단 강 건너 해 뜨는 쪽에 있는 아라바 온 지역으로서 비스가 산 기슭에 있는 아라바 호수에까지 이른다.
