신명기 7:1-8:20

 모세는 백성들에게 가나안 정복시에 원주민들을 멸절시키고 그들의 우상을 훼파할 것을 지시했다. 그리고 하나님의 율법을 지키는 자에게는 풍성한 복이 임하고 질병이 없을 것이라고 말했다. 또한 40년 간의 광야 생활을 회고하면서, 그들을 연단하신 하나님의 뜻을 따라 약속의 땅에 들어간 후에도 하나님을 잊지 말고 우상을 멀리할 것을 강조했다.
  
  하나님의 명령에 대한 순종(7:1-7:26)    
 
  1. "When the LORD your God brings you into the land where you are entering to possess it, and clears away many nations before you, the Hittites and the Girgashites and the Amorites and the Canaanites and the Perizzites and the Hivites and the Jebusites, seven nations greater and stronger than you,
  2. and when the LORD your God delivers them before you and you defeat them, then you shall utterly destroy them You shall make no covenant with them and show no favor to them.
  3. "Furthermore, you shall not intermarry with them; you shall not give your daughters to their sons, nor shall you take their daughters for your sons.
  4. "For they will turn your sons away from following Me to serve other gods; then the anger of the LORD will be kindled against you and He will quickly destroy you.
  5. "But thus you shall do to them: you shall tear down their altars, and smash their sacred pillars, and hew down their Asherim, and burn their graven images with fire.
  1. 너희 하느님 야훼께서 이제 너희가 들어가 차지하려는 땅에 너희를 이끌어들이시고 인구가 많은 민족들을 너희 앞에서 모조리 쫓아내실 것이다. 그들은 너희보다 인구가 많고 강대한 헷족, 기르가스족, 아모리족, 가나안족, 브리즈족, 히위족, 여부스족, 이렇게 일곱 민족이다.
  2. 너희 하느님 야훼께서는 그들을 너희 손에 붙여 꺾으실 것이다. 그 때 너희는 그들을 전멸시켜야 한다. 그들과 계약을 맺지 말고 불쌍히 여기지도 마라.
  3. 그들과 혼인을 맺으면 안 된다. 그들의 아들을 사위로 삼거나 그들의 딸을 며느리로 맞으면 안 된다.
  4. 그런 짓을 하면 너희 아들이 나를 떠나 다른 신들을 섬기게 될 것이고 그리 되면 야훼께서 진노를 발하여 순식간에 너희를 쓸어버리실 것이다.
  5. 그 대신 너희는 그들에게 이렇게 해야 한다. 그들의 제단을 허물고 석상들을 부수고 아세라 목상을 찍어버리고 우상들을 불살라라.
  1. "For you are a holy people to the LORD your God; the LORD your God has chosen you to be a people for His own possession out of all the peoples who are on the face of the earth.
  2. "The LORD did not set His love on you nor choose you because you were more in number than any of the peoples, for you were the fewest of all peoples,
  3. but because the LORD loved you and kept the oath which He swore to your forefathers, the LORD brought you out by a mighty hand and redeemed you from the house of slavery, from the hand of Pharaoh king of Egypt.
  4. "Know therefore that the LORD your God, He is God, the faithful God, who keeps His covenant and His lovingkindness to a thousandth generation with those who love Him and keep His commandments;
  5. but repays those who hate Him to their faces, to destroy them; He will not delay with him who hates Him, He will repay him to his face.
  1. 너희는 너희 하느님 야훼께 몸바친 거룩한 백성이 아니냐? 너희 하느님 야훼께서는 세상에 민족이 많지만 그 가운데서 너희를 뽑아 당신의 소중한 백성으로 삼으신 것이다.
  2. 야훼께서 너희를 택하신 것은 너희가 어느 민족들보다 수효가 많아서 거기에 마음이 끌리셨기 때문이 아니다. 사실 너희는 어느 민족보다도 작은 민족이다.
  3. 다만 너희를 사랑하시고 너희 선조들에게 맹세하신 그 맹세를 지키시려고 야훼께서는 당신의 강한 손으로 너희를 이끌어내신 것이다. 그리하여 이집트 왕 파라오의 손아귀에서, 그 종살이하던 집에서 건져내셨다.
  4. 그러므로 너희는 알아야 한다. 너희 하느님 야훼 그분이야말로 참 하느님이시다. 당신을 사랑하여 당신의 계명을 지키는 사람에게는 천 대에 이르기까지 사랑으로 맺은 계약을 한결같이 지켜주시는 신실하신 하느님이시다.
  5. 그러나 당신을 싫어하는 자에게는 벌을 내려 멸망시키는 분이시다. 당신을 싫어하는 자는 바로 그 본인에게 지체없이 벌을 내리신다.
  1. "Therefore, you shall keep the commandment and the statutes and the judgments which I am commanding you today, to do them.
  2. "Then it shall come about, because you listen to these judgments and keep and do them, that the LORD your God will keep with you His covenant and His lovingkindness which He swore to your forefathers.
  3. "He will love you and bless you and multiply you; He will also bless the fruit of your womb and the fruit of your ground, your grain and your new wine and your oil, the increase of your herd and the young of your flock, in the land which He swore to your forefathers to give you.
  4. "You shall be blessed above all peoples; there will be no male or female barren among you or among your cattle.
  5. "The LORD will remove from you all sickness; and He will not put on you any of the harmful diseases of Egypt which you have known, but He will lay them on all who hate you.
  1. 그러니 너희에게 오늘 내가 명령하는 계명에 딸린 규정과 법령을 너희는 지켜야 한다.
  2. 너희가 이 법령을 따라 성심껏 실천하면, 너희 하느님 야훼께서도 너희 선조들에게 맹세하시고 사랑으로 맺으신 계약을 한결같이 지켜주실 것이다.
  3. 너희를 사랑하시어 복 주시고 번성하게 해주실 것이다. 너희에게 주겠다고 너희 선조들에게 맹세하신 그 땅에 들어가 살 때, 너희에게 자식 복을 주시고 땅에서 나는 열매와 밀과 술과 기름 복을 주시며 송아지와 양 새끼도 불어나게 복을 주실 것이다.
  4. 너희는 어느 민족보다도 복받은 민족이 되어 너희 가운데 아이 못 낳는 사나이나 계집이 없고, 짐승 가운데 새끼 못 치는 암컷이나 수컷이 없으리라.
  5. 또 야훼께서 모든 병을 물리쳐주실 것이다. 너희가 일찍이 이집트에서 앓던 온갖 나쁜 질병에 걸리지 않게 해주시고, 너희를 미워하는 사람들이나 그 병에 걸리게 하실 것이다.
  1. "You shall consume all the peoples whom the LORD your God will deliver to you; your eye shall not pity them, nor shall you serve their gods, for that would be a snare to you.
  2. "If you should say in your heart, 'These nations are greater than I; how can I dispossess them?'
  3. you shall not be afraid of them; you shall well remember what the LORD your God did to Pharaoh and to all Egypt:
  4. the great trials which your eyes saw and the signs and the wonders and the mighty hand and the outstretched arm by which the LORD your God brought you out. So shall the LORD your God do to all the peoples of whom you are afraid.
  5. "Moreover, the LORD your God will send the hornet against them, until those who are left and hide themselves from you perish.
  1. 너희는 너희 하느님 야훼께서 너희에게 넘겨주는 민족을 전멸시켜야 한다. 그들을 가엾게 보지 말고 그들의 신을 섬기지 마라. 그것이 너희에게 올가미가 되리라.
  2. '이 민족들이 우리보다 이렇게 많은데 어떻게 그들을 쫓아낼 수 있을까?' 하고 너희는 속으로 걱정이 될 것이다.
  3. 그러나 그들을 두려워하지 마라. 너희 하느님 야훼께서 파라오와 온 이집트에게 어떻게 하셨는지 생각해 보아라.
  4. 너희가 두 눈으로 본 대로 너희 하느님 야훼께서는 그들을 마구 괴롭히시고 표적과 기적을 행하시어 강한 손으로 내려치시고 팔을 뻗으시어 너희를 이끌어내셨다. 너희 하느님 야훼께서는 너희가 두려워하는 모든 민족에게도 그와 같은 일을 하실 것이다.
  5. 너희 하느님 야훼께서는 또 말벌을 보내시어 아직 살아 남아 너희를 피해 숨은 자들까지 멸하실 것이다.
  1. "You shall not dread them, for the LORD your God is in your midst, a great and awesome God.
  2. "The LORD your God will clear away these nations before you little by little; you will not be able to put an end to them quickly, for the wild beasts would grow too numerous for you.
  3. "But the LORD your God will deliver them before you, and will throw them into great confusion until they are destroyed.
  4. "He will deliver their kings into your hand so that you will make their name perish from under heaven; no man will be able to stand before you until you have destroyed them.
  5. "The graven images of their gods you are to burn with fire; you shall not covet the silver or the gold that is on them, nor take it for yourselves, or you will be snared by it, for it is an abomination to the LORD your God.
  1. 그들을 두려워하여 떨지 마라. 너희 하느님 야훼께서 너희 가운데 계시지 아니하냐? 그는 크고 두려운 신이시다.
  2. 너희 하느님 야훼께서 그 민족들을 너희 앞에서 점차로 쫓아내실 것이다. 너희는 그들을 단번에 없애버리지는 못할 것이다. 그렇게 하면 야수가 들끓어 너희를 괴롭힐 것이다.
  3. 너희 하느님 야훼께서는 그들을 너희 손에 부치시리니, 그들은 무서워 허둥대다가 마침내는 모두 망할 것이다.
  4. 그들의 왕들도 너희 손에 부치시어 그 이름이 하늘 아래에서 사라지게 하실 것이다. 이렇게 아무도 너희와 맞설 수 없이 만드시어, 너희는 마침내 그들을 모조리 쓸어버리게 될 것이다.
  5. 너희는 그들의 신상들을 불에 살라버려야 한다. 그 위에 입힌 금이나 은도 탐내지 마라. 그러다가는 올가미에 걸리리라. 그런 짓은 너희 하느님 야훼께서 역겨워하시는 짓이다.
  1. "You shall not bring an abomination into your house, and like it come under the ban; you shall utterly detest it and you shall utterly abhor it, for it is something banned.
  1. 하느님께서 역겨워하시는 것을 너희 집에 끌어들이지 마라. 그러다가는 너희도 그들과 같은 운명에 처하리라. 너희는 그런 것들을 더럽게 여기고 역겹게 여겨라. 그런 것들은 모두 없애버려야 할 것이다.
 
  하나님을 기억하라(8:1-8:20)    
 
  1. "All the commandments that I am commanding you today you shall be careful to do, that you may live and multiply, and go in and possess the land which the LORD swore to give to your forefathers.
  2. "You shall remember all the way which the LORD your God has led you in the wilderness these forty years, that He might humble you, testing you, to know what was in your heart, whether you would keep His commandments or not.
  3. "He humbled you and let you be hungry, and fed you with manna which you did not know, nor did your fathers know, that He might make you understand that man does not live by bread alone, but man lives by everything that proceeds out of the mouth of the LORD.
  4. "Your clothing did not wear out on you, nor did your foot swell these forty years.
  5. "Thus you are to know in your heart that the LORD your God was disciplining you just as a man disciplines his son.
  1. 너희는 내가 오늘 명하는 모든 계명을 성심껏 지켜야 한다. 그래야 너희는 행복하게 살며 번성할 것이고 야훼께서 너희의 선조들에게 주겠다고 맹세하신 땅에 들어가 그 땅을 차지할 것이다.
  2. 너희는 지난 사십 년간 광야에서 너희 하느님 야훼께서 어떻게 너희를 인도해 주셨던가 더듬어 생각해 보아라. 하느님께서 너희를 고생시킨 것은 너희가 당신의 계명을 지킬 것인지 아닌지 시련을 주어 시험해 보려고 하신 것이다.
  3. 하느님께서는 너희를 고생시키시고 굶기시다가 너희가 일찍이 몰랐고 너희 선조들도 몰랐던 만나를 먹여주셨다. 이는 사람이 빵만으로는 살지 못하고 야훼의 입에서 떨어지는 말씀을 따라야 산다는 것을 너희에게 가르쳐주시려는 것이었다.
  4. 지난 사십 년 동안 너희 몸에 걸친 옷이 떨어진 일이 없었고, 발이 부르튼 일도 없었다.
  5. 너희 하느님 야훼께서는 사람이 자기 자식을 잘되라고 고생시키듯이 그렇게 너희를 잘되라고 고생시키신 것이니, 이를 마음에 새겨두어라.
  1. "Therefore, you shall keep the commandments of the LORD your God, to walk in His ways and to fear Him.
  2. "For the LORD your God is bringing you into a good land, a land of brooks of water, of fountains and springs, flowing forth in valleys and hills;
  3. a land of wheat and barley, of vines and fig trees and pomegranates, a land of olive oil and honey;
  4. a land where you will eat food without scarcity, in which you will not lack anything; a land whose stones are iron, and out of whose hills you can dig copper.
  5. "When you have eaten and are satisfied, you shall bless the LORD your God for the good land which He has given you.
  1. 너희는 너희 하느님 야훼를 경외하여 그의 계명을 지키고 그가 보여주신 길만을 따라가도록 하여라.
  2. 너희 하느님 야훼께서는 이제 너희를 기름지고 넓은 땅, 골짜기와 산에서 지하수가 솟아 샘이 되고 냇물이 흐르는 땅으로 이끌어들이려고 하신다.
  3. 그 곳은 밀과 보리가 자라고 포도와 무화과와 석류가 여는 땅이요, 올리브 나무 기름과 꿀이 나는 땅이다.
  4. 굶주리지 않고 먹을 수 있는 땅, 아쉬운 것 하나 없는 땅, 돌에서는 쇠를, 산에서는 구리를 캐낼 수 있는 땅이다.
  5. 너희 하느님 야훼께서 너희에게 주신 이 좋은 땅에서 너희는 배불리 먹으며 하느님을 기리게 될 것이다.
  1. "Beware that you do not forget the LORD your God by not keeping His commandments and His ordinances and His statutes which I am commanding you today;
  2. otherwise, when you have eaten and are satisfied, and have built good houses and lived in them,
  3. and when your herds and your flocks multiply, and your silver and gold multiply, and all that you have multiplies,
  4. then your heart will become proud and you will forget the LORD your God who brought you out from the land of Egypt, out of the house of slavery.
  5. "He led you through the great and terrible wilderness, with its fiery serpents and scorpions and thirsty ground where there was no water; He brought water for you out of the rock of flint.
  1. 아무쪼록 너희 하느님 야훼를 잊어버리지 않도록 하여라. 내가 오늘 너희에게 명령하는 그의 계명과 법령과 규정을 어기는 일이 없도록 하여라.
  2. 배불리 먹으며 좋은 집을 짓고 살게 되고,
  3. 소떼 양떼가 불어나고 은과 금이 많아져서 너희 재산이 늘어나더라도,
  4. 행여나 교만한 생각으로 너희 하느님 야훼를 잊는 일이 없도록 하여라. 하느님께서 너를 이집트 땅 종살이하던 집에서 이끌어내 주시지 않았느냐?
  5. 저 끝없고 두렵던 광야, 불뱀과 전갈이 우글거리고 물이 없어 타던 땅에서 너희 발길을 인도해 주시며 차돌 바위에서 물이 터져 나오게 해주시지 않았느냐?
  1. "In the wilderness He fed you manna which your fathers did not know, that He might humble you and that He might test you, to do good for you in the end.
  2. "Otherwise, you may say in your heart, 'My power and the strength of my hand made me this wealth.'
  3. "But you shall remember the LORD your God, for it is He who is giving you power to make wealth, that He may confirm His covenant which He swore to your fathers, as it is this day.
  4. "It shall come about if you ever forget the LORD your God and go after other gods and serve them and worship them, I testify against you today that you will surely perish.
  5. "Like the nations that the LORD makes to perish before you, so you shall perish; because you would not listen to the voice of the LORD your God.
  1. 또 너희 선조들이 일찍이 먹어보지 못한 만나를 너희에게 먹여주시지 않았느냐? 너희에게 시련을 주어 고생시키신 것도 너희가 훗날 잘되도록 하시려는 것이었다.
  2. '이 재산은 내 손으로 뼛골이 빠지게 일해서 모은 것이다.' 이런 엉뚱한 생각이 들거든,
  3. 너희 하느님 야훼를 생각하여라. 하느님께서 너희 선조들에게 맹세하신 당신의 계약을 이행하셔서 오늘 이처럼 재산을 모으도록 너희에게 힘을 주셨다는 것을 생각하여라.
  4. 만일 너희가 너희 하느님 야훼를 잊고 다른 신들을 따라가 섬기고 예배한다면, 내가 오늘 너희에게 다짐해 둔다, 너희는 반드시 망할 것이다.
  5. 야훼께서 너희 앞에서 멸하신 민족들과 똑같이 너희도 망할 것이다. 너희 하느님 야훼의 말씀을 듣지 않으면 정녕 이렇게 되리라.
