- I am telling the truth in Christ, I am not lying, my conscience testifies with me in the Holy Spirit,
- that I have great sorrow and unceasing grief in my heart.
- For I could wish that I myself were accursed, separated from Christ for the sake of my brethren, my kinsmen according to the flesh,
- who are Israelites, to whom belongs the adoption as sons, and the glory and the covenants and the giving of the Law and the temple service and the promises,
- whose are the fathers, and from whom is the Christ according to the flesh, who is over all, God blessed forever. Amen.

- 나는 그리스도의 사람으로서 진실을 말하고 거짓을 말하지 않습니다. 성령으로 움직이는 내 양심도 그것이 사실이라고 말해 줍니다.
- 나에게는 큰 슬픔이 있습니다. 그리고 마음으로 끊임없이 번민하고 있습니다.
- 나는 혈육을 같이하는 내 동족을 위해서라면 나 자신이 저주를 받아 그리스도에게서 떨어져 나갈지라도 조금도 한이 없겠습니다.
- 나의 동족은 이스라엘 사람들입니다. 그들에게는 하느님의 자녀가 되는 특권이 있고 하느님을 모시는 영광이 있고 하느님과 맺은 계약이 있습니다. 그리고 그들에게는 율법이 있고 참된 예배가 있고 하느님의 약속이 있습니다.
- 그들은 저 훌륭한 선조들의 후손들이며 그리스도도 인성으로 말하면 그들에게서 나셨습니다. 만물을 다스리시는 하느님을 영원토록 찬양합시다. 아멘.

- But it is not as though the word of God has failed For they are not all Israel who are descended from Israel;
- nor are they all children because they are Abraham's descendants, but: "THROUGH ISAAC YOUR DESCENDANTS WILL BE NAMED."

- 나는 하느님의 약속이 실패로 돌아갔다는 말을 하려는 것은 아닙니다. 이스라엘 사람이라 해서 다 이스라엘 사람은 아니며
- 아브라함의 후예라 하여 모두 아브라함의 자녀는 아닌 것입니다. "이사악의 혈통을 이은 자만이 네 자녀라 불리리라." 하시지 않았습니까?
- 이 말씀은 육정의 자녀는 하느님의 자녀가 아니고 오직 약속의 자녀만이 하느님의 자녀로 인정받는다는 뜻입니다.
- 그 약속이라는 것은 "내년 이 즈음에 내가 올 터인데 그 때 사라에게 아들이 있을 것이다." 하신 말씀입니다.
- 뿐만 아니라 리브가가 우리 조상 이사악과의 사이에서 한번에 두 아들을 잉태했을 때의 경우도 마찬가지입니다.

- for though the twins were not yet born and had not done anything good or bad, so that God's purpose according to His choice would stand, not because of works but because of Him who calls,

- 그 아들들이 아직 태어나지도 않았고, 따라서 선이나 악을 행하기도 전에 하느님께서는 리브가에게 "형이 동생을 섬기게 될 것이다." 하고 말씀하셨습니다. 그러나 하느님께서는 사람의 선행을 보시고 불러주시는 것이 아니라 당신의 뜻대로 불러주시며 선택의 원리에 의해서 당신의 계획을 이루십니다.
