느헤미야 8:13-9:38

 백성의 지도자들이 에스라를 찾아와 율법을 배우던 중, 율법 책에 기록된 초막절의 규례를 보게 되었다. 그리하여 온 백성들이 그 규례를 지켰다. 초막절을 시행한 후 에스라는 기쁨으로 날마다 율법을 낭독하였고, 이스라엘 백성들은 자신과 조상들의 죄를 자복하며 하나님께 경배하였다.
  
  초막절 준수(8:13-8:18)    
 
  1. Then on the second day the heads of fathers' households of all the people, the priests and the Levites were gathered to Ezra the scribe that they might gain insight into the words of the law.
  2. They found written in the law how the LORD had commanded through Moses that the sons of Israel should live in booths during the feast of the seventh month.
  3. So they proclaimed and circulated a proclamation in all their cities and in Jerusalem, saying, "Go out to the hills, and bring olive branches and wild olive branches, myrtle branches, palm branches and branches of other leafy trees, to make booths, as it is written."
  4. So the people went out and brought them and made booths for themselves, each on his roof, and in their courts and in the courts of the house of God, and in the square at the Water Gate and in the square at the Gate of Ephraim.
  5. The entire assembly of those who had returned from the captivity made booths and lived in them. The sons of Israel had indeed not done so from the days of Joshua the son of Nun to that day And there was great rejoicing.
  1. 이튿날 사제들과 레위인들과 일반 백성 전부를 대표한 각 가문의 어른들이 선비 에즈라에게 모여와서 법전에 기록되어 있는 말씀을 공부하다가,
  2. 야훼께서 이스라엘 백성에게 칠월 절기에는 초막에서 지내도록 모세를 시켜 법으로 분부하신 것을 알게 되었다.
  3. 그들은 이 말을 듣고 하나도 빠짐없이 저희의 성읍들과 예루살렘에 다음과 같은 전갈을 보냈다. "산에 가서 올리브 나무 가지, 들올리브 나무 가지, 소귀나무 가지, 종려나무 가지, 참나무 가지를 꺾어다가 책에 있는 대로 초막을 만들어라."
  4. 백성들은 나가서 나무 가지들을 꺾어다가 옥상이나 마당이나 하느님의 성전 뜰 아래나 수문 앞 광장이나 에브라임 성 문 광장 할 것 없이 어디에서나 저마다 자기의 초막을 만들었다.
  5. 사로잡혀 갔다가 돌아온 사람들인 온 회중은 이렇게 초막을 만들고 그 안에서 지냈다. 이스라엘 백성이 이렇듯이 성대한 절기를 지키기는 눈의 아들 여호수아의 시대 이후로 그 날까지 없던 일이었다. 그러니 그 기쁨을 어찌 다 이를 수 있었으랴.
  1. He read from the book of the law of God daily, from the first day to the last day And they celebrated the feast seven days, and on the eighth day there was a solemn assembly according to the ordinance.
  1. 에즈라는 그동안 첫 날부터 마지막 날까지 날마다 하느님의 법전을 백성에게 들려주었다. 그들은 칠 일간 절기를 지킨 다음 팔 일째 되는 날 규정대로 폐회 예배를 드렸다.
 
  백성들의 죄 고백(9:1-9:38)    
 
  1. Now on the twenty-fourth day of this month the sons of Israel assembled with fasting, in sackcloth and with dirt upon them.
  2. The descendants of Israel separated themselves from all foreigners, and stood and confessed their sins and the iniquities of their fathers.
  3. While they stood in their place, they read from the book of the law of the LORD their God for a fourth of the day; and for another fourth they confessed and worshiped the LORD their God.
  4. Now on the Levites' platform stood Jeshua, Bani, Kadmiel, Shebaniah, Bunni, Sherebiah, Bani and Chenani, and they cried with a loud voice to the LORD their God.
  5. Then the Levites, Jeshua, Kadmiel, Bani, Hashabneiah, Sherebiah, Hodiah, Shebaniah and Pethahiah, said, "Arise, bless the LORD your God forever and ever! O may Your glorious name be blessed And exalted above all blessing and praise!
  1. 같은 달 이십사일 이스라엘 백성은 베옷을 걸치고 흙을 뒤집어쓴 채 단식하기 위하여 모여들었다.
  2. 이스라엘의 후손들은 다른 민족들과 맺은 관계를 다 끊고 나서 저희의 잘못과 선조들의 죄를 고백하였다.
  3. 모두들 제자리에 서서 하루의 사분의 일은 그들의 하느님 야훼의 법전을 읽고 또 사분의 일은 그들의 하느님 야훼 앞에 엎드려 죄를 고백하였다.
  4. 레위인들이 서는 단 위에는 예수아, 빈누이, 카드미엘, 스바니야, 분니, 세레비야, 바니, 그나니가 올라서서 그들의 하느님 야훼께 부르짖었다.
  5. 레위인들인 예수아, 카드미엘, 바니, 하삽니야, 세레비야, 호디야, 스바니야, 브다히야가 "일어나, 야훼 너희의 하느님을 기리라." 하고 외쳤다. 한 옛날부터 길이길이 하느님의 이름 위엄차시고 높으시어 이루 다 기리고 노래할 수 없습니다.
  1. "You alone are the LORD You have made the heavens, The heaven of heavens with all their host, The earth and all that is on it, The seas and all that is in them You give life to all of them And the heavenly host bows down before You.
  2. "You are the LORD God, Who chose Abram And brought him out from Ur of the Chaldees, And gave him the name Abraham.
  3. "You found his heart faithful before You, And made a covenant with him To give him the land of the Canaanite, Of the Hittite and the Amorite, Of the Perizzite, the Jebusite and the Girgashite-- To give it to his descendants And You have fulfilled Your promise, For You are righteous.
  4. "You saw the affliction of our fathers in Egypt, And heard their cry by the Red Sea.
  5. "Then You performed signs and wonders against Pharaoh, Against all his servants and all the people of his land; For You knew that they acted arrogantly toward them, And made a name for Yourself as it is this day.
  1. 야훼여, 임께서는 홀로 하늘을 지으셨습니다. 하늘 위의 하늘과 거기에 딸린 별들을 지으셨습니다. 땅과 그 위에 있는 온갖 것, 바다와 그 안에 있는 온갖 것을 지으시고 목숨을 불어넣으셨습니다. 하늘의 별들이 하느님께 예배드립니다.
  2. 야훼여, 아브람을 택하시어 바빌론 우르에서 이끌어내시고 아브라함이라 이름지어 주신 이, 바로 하느님 아니십니까?
  3. 그의 마음이 하느님께 향하여 매양 한결같음을 보시고, 가나안, 헷, 아모리, 브리즈, 여부스, 기르갓 사람의 땅을 그 후손에게 주겠노라고 약속하셨습니다. 하느님께서는 의리를 지키시어 말씀대로 이루어주셨습니다.
  4. 우리 선조들이 이집트에서 고생하는 모양을 보시고 홍해에서 아우성치는 소리를 들으시고
  5. 우리 선조들을 업신여기는 파라오와 그의 신하들과 백성들에게 놀라운 일로 힘을 드러내시어 오늘날처럼 명성을 떨치셨습니다.
  1. "You divided the sea before them, So they passed through the midst of the sea on dry ground; And their pursuers You hurled into the depths, Like a stone into raging waters.
  2. "And with a pillar of cloud You led them by day, And with a pillar of fire by night To light for them the way In which they were to go.
  3. "Then You came down on Mount Sinai, And spoke with them from heaven; You gave them just ordinances and true laws, Good statutes and commandments.
  4. "So You made known to them Your holy sabbath, And laid down for them commandments, statutes and law, Through Your servant Moses.
  5. "You provided bread from heaven for them for their hunger, You brought forth water from a rock for them for their thirst, And You told them to enter in order to possess The land which You swore to give them.
  1. 바다를 가르시어 바다 한가운데를 마른 땅처럼 건너게 하시고 뒤쫓는 자들을 깊은 바다에 빠뜨리시어 돌처럼 거센 물결에 잠기게 하셨습니다.
  2. 낮에는 구름기둥으로 인도하여 주시고 밤에는 불기둥으로 길을 밝혀주셨습니다.
  3. 몸소 시나이 산에 내려오시고 하늘에서 말씀을 내리셨습니다. 바른 관례와 어김없는 법령과 좋은 규정과 계명을 주셨습니다.
  4. 안식일은 하느님의 날, 그 날을 거룩하게 지킬 것을 가르쳐주셨습니다. 모세의 손을 거쳐 계명과 규정과 법을 내려주셨습니다.
  5. 굶주린다고 하늘에서 양식을 내리시고 목말라한다고 바위에서 물을 터뜨리셨습니다. 손들어 맹세하며 주겠다 하신 땅에 들어가 차지하고 살라고 일러주셨습니다.
  1. "But they, our fathers, acted arrogantly; They became stubborn and would not listen to Your commandments.
  2. "They refused to listen, And did not remember Your wondrous deeds which You had performed among them; So they became stubborn and appointed a leader to return to their slavery in Egypt But You are a God of forgiveness, Gracious and compassionate, Slow to anger and abounding in lovingkindness; And You did not forsake them.
  3. "Even when they made for themselves A calf of molten metal And said, 'This is your God Who brought you up from Egypt,' And committed great blasphemies,
  4. You, in Your great compassion, Did not forsake them in the wilderness; The pillar of cloud did not leave them by day, To guide them on their way, Nor the pillar of fire by night, to light for them the way in which they were to go.
  5. "You gave Your good Spirit to instruct them, Your manna You did not withhold from their mouth, And You gave them water for their thirst.
  1. 그러나 우리 선조들은 거만해졌습니다. 고집이 세어졌습니다. 그리하여 하느님의 계명에 복종하지 않았습니다.
  2. 깜짝 놀랄 일들을 하여주셨지만, 그런 일은 염두에도 없어 복종할 생각은커녕 고집만 세어져 종살이하던 곳, 이집트로 되돌아가려고까지 하였습니다. 그래도 하느님께서는 버리시지 않으셨습니다. 하느님은 어떤 죄도 용서하시는 분, 애처롭고 불쌍한 꼴을 그냥 보아 넘기지 못하시고 좀처럼 화를 내지 않으시는 분, 그 사랑은 그지없으십니다.
  3. 우리 선조들은 송아지를 쇠붙이로 부어 만들고는 "이것이 우리를 이집트에서 이끌어내신 우리의 하느님이라." 하고 외쳤습니다. 그렇듯이 무엄하고도 발칙하게 굴었지만
  4. 하느님께서는 마냥 불쌍히 보시고 사막에 버려두지 않으셨습니다. 낮에는 어김없이 구름기둥으로 앞길을 인도하여 주셨고 밤에는 불기둥으로 갈 길을 비추어주셨습니다.
  5. 지혜로워지라고 선한 영을 내려주셨고 굶주릴세라 만나를 끊이지 않으셨으며 목마를세라 물을 주셨습니다.
  1. "Indeed, forty years You provided for them in the wilderness and they were not in want; Their clothes did not wear out, nor did their feet swell.
  2. "You also gave them kingdoms and peoples, And allotted them to them as a boundary. They took possession of the land of Sihon the king of Heshbon And the land of Og the king of Bashan.
  3. "You made their sons numerous as the stars of heaven, And You brought them into the land Which You had told their fathers to enter and possess.
  4. "So their sons entered and possessed the land And You subdued before them the inhabitants of the land, the Canaanites, And You gave them into their hand, with their kings and the peoples of the land, To do with them as they desired.
  5. "They captured fortified cities and a fertile land They took possession of houses full of every good thing, Hewn cisterns, vineyards, olive groves, Fruit trees in abundance So they ate, were filled and grew fat, And reveled in Your great goodness.
  1. 사막에서 사십 년을 하루같이 옷이 해질세라 발이 부르틀세라 아쉬운 일 하나 없게 돌보셨습니다.
  2. 마침내 헤스본 왕 시혼, 바산 왕 옥의 영토를 주셨습니다. 그 나라 그 민족들을 손에 붙여주시어 그 땅을 나누어 변방으로 삼게 하셨습니다.
  3. 하늘의 별만큼이나 불어나게 하신 후손들은 선조들에게 약속해 주신 땅에 들어와 차지하게 되었습니다.
  4. 그 후손들이 들어와 이 땅을 차지할 때 이 땅에 살던 가나안 사람들을 굴복시키셨습니다. 뭇 민족과 그 임금들을 손에 붙여주시어 저희 마음대로 하고
  5. 성채들과 기름진 땅을 점령하게 하셨습니다. 온갖 보화가 그득그득한 집들과 바위를 파서 만든 물웅덩이, 과일이 지천으로 열리는 포도원, 올리브 과원을 차지하여 기막히게 맛있는 것을 기름기 돌 만큼 배불리 먹으며 흥청거렸지만,
  1. "But they became disobedient and rebelled against You, And cast Your law behind their backs And killed Your prophets who had admonished them So that they might return to You, And they committed great blasphemies.
  2. "Therefore You delivered them into the hand of their oppressors who oppressed them, But when they cried to You in the time of their distress, You heard from heaven, and according to Your great compassion You gave them deliverers who delivered them from the hand of their oppressors.
  3. "But as soon as they had rest, they did evil again before You; Therefore You abandoned them to the hand of their enemies, so that they ruled over them When they cried again to You, You heard from heaven, And many times You rescued them according to Your compassion,
  4. And admonished them in order to turn them back to Your law Yet they acted arrogantly and did not listen to Your commandments but sinned against Your ordinances, By which if a man observes them he shall live And they turned a stubborn shoulder and stiffened their neck, and would not listen.
  5. "However, You bore with them for many years, And admonished them by Your Spirit through Your prophets, Yet they would not give ear. Therefore You gave them into the hand of the peoples of the lands.
  1. 어느덧 엇나가며 반역까지 하게 되었습니다. 주신 법을 내버리고 하느님께 돌아오라고 타이르는 예언자들을 죽였습니다. 이렇듯이 무엄하고도 발칙하게 굴었습니다.
  2. 그래서 원수들의 손에 내맡기시어 억압을 받게 하시다가도 못견디어 부르짖기만 하면 하늘에서 들으시고 마냥 불쌍한 생각이 드시어 원수의 손으로 건져낼 사람을 보내주시곤 하셨습니다.
  3. 그러나 한숨 돌릴 만하면 또 하느님께 거슬리는 일을 하였습니다. 그래서 원수의 손에 넘기시어 그 지배를 받게 되면 이 백성은 다시 부르짖었습니다. 그러면 하느님께선 하늘에서 들으시고 또 불쌍한 생각이 드시어 다시 건져주셨습니다.
  4. 마음을 돌이켜 내 법대로 살라고 아무리 타이르셔도 막무가내였습니다. 받은 계명을 따라 살려고 하지 않았습니다. 받은 법령을 따라야 살 터인데 기어이 엇나가며 못할 짓만 하였습니다. 고집만 부리며 등을 돌린 채 듣지 않았습니다.
  5. 그러나 하느님께서는 오랜 세월을 참으시며 예언자들에게 영검을 내리시어 타이르셨지만 그들은 들으려고 하지 않았습니다. 하는 수 없이 여러 나라 백성에게 넘기셨으나
  1. "Nevertheless, in Your great compassion You did not make an end of them or forsake them, For You are a gracious and compassionate God.
  2. "Now therefore, our God, the great, the mighty, and the awesome God, who keeps covenant and lovingkindness, Do not let all the hardship seem insignificant before You, Which has come upon us, our kings, our princes, our priests, our prophets, our fathers and on all Your people, From the days of the kings of Assyria to this day.
  3. "However, You are just in all that has come upon us; For You have dealt faithfully, but we have acted wickedly.
  4. "For our kings, our leaders, our priests and our fathers have not kept Your law Or paid attention to Your commandments and Your admonitions with which You have admonished them.
  5. "But they, in their own kingdom, With Your great goodness which You gave them, With the broad and rich land which You set before them, Did not serve You or turn from their evil deeds.
  1. 또다시 불쌍한 생각이 드시어 모조리 쓸어버리지는 못하셨습니다. 애처롭고 불쌍한 모양은 그냥 보아넘기지 못하시는 하느님이시기에 내버려두지 못하셨습니다.
  2. 그런데 우리는 지금 이 꼴입니다. 우리 하느님, 높고 힘 있으시고 두려우신 하느님, 한번 맺은 계약은 어김없이 지키시는 하느님, 우리가 겪은 고난, 우리 임금, 대신, 사제, 예언자, 선조들이 겪은 고난, 아시리아 왕들이 쳐들어온 날부터 이 날까지 하느님의 백성이 겪은 고난을 작다고 하지 마십시오.
  3. 이 모든 일을 겪었지만 우리는 하느님께 잘못이 있다고 생각하지 않습니다. 하느님께서 하신 일은 틀림이 없습니다. 죄는 저희에게 있습니다.
  4. 우리 임금, 대신, 사제, 선조들은 하느님께서 몸소 내리신 법을 지키지 않았습니다. 타이르시며 분부하신 말씀쯤은 염두에도 두지 않았습니다.
  5. 제 나라에서 넘치게 주시는 복을 누리면서도, 눈앞에 펼쳐주신 넓고 기름진 땅에서 살면서도, 하느님을 섬기지 않았습니다. 그 악한 행실에서 발길을 돌리지 않았습니다.
  1. "Behold, we are slaves today, And as to the land which You gave to our fathers to eat of its fruit and its bounty, Behold, we are slaves in it.
  2. "Its abundant produce is for the kings Whom You have set over us because of our sins; They also rule over our bodies And over our cattle as they please, So we are in great distress.
  3. "Now because of all this We are making an agreement in writing; And on the sealed document are the names of our leaders, our Levites and our priests."
  1. 보십시오. 우리는 지금 종살이를 하고 있습니다. 거기에서 나는 좋은 곡식을 먹으며 살라고 우리 선조들에게 주신 바로 그 땅에서 우리는 종살이를 하고 있습니다.
  2. 이 땅에서 나는 풍성한 소출은 우리 죄를 벌하려고 세우신 임금들의 것이 되고 맙니다. 이 몸뚱아리도 마음대로 부리고 우리 가축도 멋대로 처치합니다. 우리는 이처럼 무서운 고역을 치르고 있습니다.
