- Now these are the words of the letter which Jeremiah the prophet sent from Jerusalem to the rest of the elders of the exile, the priests, the prophets and all the people whom Nebuchadnezzar had taken into exile from Jerusalem to Babylon.
- (This was after King Jeconiah and the queen mother, the court officials, the princes of Judah and Jerusalem, the craftsmen and the smiths had departed from Jerusalem.)
- The letter was sent by the hand of Elasah the son of Shaphan, and Gemariah the son of Hilkiah, whom Zedekiah king of Judah sent to Babylon to Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon, saying,
- "Thus says the LORD of hosts, the God of Israel, to all the exiles whom I have sent into exile from Jerusalem to Babylon,
- 'Build houses and live in them; and plant gardens and eat their produce.

- 느부갓네살이 예루살렘에서 바빌론으로 사로잡아 간 장로들을 비롯하여 사제들과 예언자들과 온 백성에게 예언자 예레미야가 예루살렘에서 편지를 띄운 일이 있었다.
- 그 편지는 여호야긴 왕과 그의 어머니와 내시들과 유다 및 예루살렘의 고관들과 은장이와 대장장이들이 예루살렘에서 끌려간 뒤에 띄운 것인데,
- 사반의 아들 엘라사와 힐키야의 아들 그마리야가 유다 왕 시드키야의 사명을 띠고 바빌론 왕 느부갓네살을 알현하러 바빌론으로 갈 때 가지고 갔던 것이다. 그 내용은 이렇다.
- "나 만군의 야훼가 이스라엘의 하느님으로서 예루살렘에서 바빌론으로 사로잡혀 간 모든 사람에게 말한다.
- 너희는 거기에서 집을 짓고 살아라. 과수원을 새로 마련하고 과일을 따먹으며 살아라.

- 'Take wives and become the fathers of sons and daughters, and take wives for your sons and give your daughters to husbands, that they may bear sons and daughters; and multiply there and do not decrease.
- 'Seek the welfare of the city where I have sent you into exile, and pray to the LORD on its behalf; for in its welfare you will have welfare.'
- "For thus says the LORD of hosts, the God of Israel, 'Do not let your prophets who are in your midst and your diviners deceive you, and do not listen to the dreams which they dream.
- 'For they prophesy falsely to you in My name; I have not sent them,' declares the LORD.
- "For thus says the LORD, 'When seventy years have been completed for Babylon, I will visit you and fulfill My good word to you, to bring you back to this place.

- 장가들어 아들딸을 낳고 며느리와 사위를 삼아 손자 손녀를 보아라. 인구가 줄어서는 안 된다. 불어나야 한다.
- 나에게 쫓겨 사로잡혀 가 사는 그 나라가 잘되도록 힘쓰며 잘되기를 나에게 빌어라. 그 나라가 잘되어야 너희도 잘될 것이다.
- 나 만군의 야훼가 이스라엘의 하느님으로서 말한다. 너희 가운데 있는 예언자들과 박수들한테 속지 않도록 하여라. 그 꿈쟁이들의 꿈이야기를 곧이듣지 마라.
- 그것들은 내가 보낸 것들이 아니다. 내 이름을 팔아 거짓 예언을 하는 것들이다. 이는 내 말이라, 어김이 없다.
- 나 야훼가 말한다. 너희가 바빌론에서 칠십 년을 다 채운 다음에야 약속대로 나는 너희를 찾아가 이 곳으로 다시 데려오리라.

- 'For I know the plans that I have for you,' declares the LORD, 'plans for welfare and not for calamity to give you a future and a hope.
- 'Then you will call upon Me and come and pray to Me, and I will listen to you.
- 'You will seek Me and find Me when you search for Me with all your heart.
- 'I will be found by you,' declares the LORD, 'and I will restore your fortunes and will gather you from all the nations and from all the places where I have driven you,' declares the LORD, 'and I will bring you back to the place from where I sent you into exile.'
- "Because you have said, 'The LORD has raised up prophets for us in Babylon'--

- 너희에게 어떻게 하여주는 것이 좋을지 나는 이미 뜻을 세웠다. 나는 너희에게 나쁘게 하여주지 않고 잘하여 주려고 뜻을 세웠다. 밝은 앞날이 너희를 기다리고 있다. 이는 내 말이라, 어김이 없다.
- 나를 부르며 나에게 와서 빌기만 하여라. 그렇게 하면 들어주리라.
- 마침내 너희는 일편단심으로 나를 찾게 되리라. 그렇게 나를 찾으면 내가 만나주리라.
- 똑똑히 일러둔다. 너희는 나를 만날 것이며 나는 너희를 고국으로 돌아오게 할 것이다. 너희는 나에게 쫓겨 세계만방에 포로로 끌려갔지만, 나는 너희를 거기에서 모아들여 이 곳으로 되돌아오게 하리라. 이는 내 말이라, 어김이 없다.
- '야훼께서는 바빌론에서도 우리에게 예언자들을 일으켜주셨다.' 하고 너희가 말한다마는,

- for thus says the LORD concerning the king who sits on the throne of David, and concerning all the people who dwell in this city, your brothers who did not go with you into exile--
- thus says the LORD of hosts, 'Behold, I am sending upon them the sword, famine and pestilence, and I will make them like split-open figs that cannot be eaten due to rottenness.
- 'I will pursue them with the sword, with famine and with pestilence; and I will make them a terror to all the kingdoms of the earth, to be a curse and a horror and a hissing, and a reproach among all the nations where I have driven them,
- because they have not listened to My words,' declares the LORD, 'which I sent to them again and again by My servants the prophets; but you did not listen,' declares the LORD.
- "You, therefore, hear the word of the LORD, all you exiles, whom I have sent away from Jerusalem to Babylon.

- 다윗 왕위를 이었다는 왕과 너희 동족 가운데 함께 포로로 끌려가지 않고 이 성에 남아 있는 온 백성을 어떻게 할 것인지 나 야훼가 말한다.
- 나 만군의 야훼가 이스라엘의 하느님으로서 말한다. 내가 전쟁과 기근과 염병을 겪게 하리니, 이 백성은 형편없이 썩어 먹지 못할 무화과처럼 되리라.
- 내가 전쟁과 기근과 염병으로 이 백성의 뒤통수를 치리니, 세상 모든 나라들이 보고 놀랄 것이다. 나에게 쫓겨 여기저기 가서 사는 그 끔찍한 꼴을 보고 모든 민족들은 저주하며 빈정거리고 조롱하리라.
- 내가 똑똑히 일러둔다. 나의 종 예언자들을 거듭거듭 보내어 말을 전하게 하였는데도, 듣지 않았으므로 너희가 이런 일을 당하는 것이다. 내가 다시 말한다. 너희는 나의 말을 전혀 들으려 하지 않았다.
- 너희는 모두 내가 예루살렘에서 바빌론으로 쫓아보낸 자들이니, 이 야훼의 말을 들어라.

- "Thus says the LORD of hosts, the God of Israel, concerning Ahab the son of Kolaiah and concerning Zedekiah the son of Maaseiah, who are prophesying to you falsely in My name, 'Behold, I will deliver them into the hand of Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon, and he will slay them before your eyes.
- 'Because of them a curse will be used by all the exiles from Judah who are in Babylon, saying, "May the LORD make you like Zedekiah and like Ahab, whom the king of Babylon roasted in the fire,
- because they have acted foolishly in Israel, and have committed adultery with their neighbors' wives and have spoken words in My name falsely, which I did not command them; and I am He who knows and am a witness," declares the LORD.'"

- 그들은 내 이름을 팔아서 거짓말을 내 말인양 전하는 것들이다. 그 거짓 예언자 콜라야의 아들 아합과 마아세야의 아들 시드키야를 어떻게 할 것인지 나 만군의 야훼가 이스라엘의 하느님으로서 말한다. 나는 그들을 바빌론 왕 느부갓네살의 손에 넘겨 너희가 보는 앞에서 죽게 하리라.
- 그리하여 바빌론에 사는 모든 유다인 포로들이 그들을 저주받은 자의 본보기로 삼을 것이다. 그리고 남에게 악담을 할 때에 '너도 천벌을 받아 시드키야나 아합처럼 바빌론 왕에게 화형이나 받아라.' 하게 될 것이다.
- 그들은 이스라엘에서는 있을 수 없는 불미스러운 일을 한 것들이다. 남의 아내와 간통하면서 내가 시키지도 않은 말을 하는 것들이다. 그렇게 내 이름을 팔아 거짓말을 하였으니 결국 그렇게 되는 것이다. 내가 다 알고 하는 말이니, 틀림이 없다."
