- James, a bond-servant of God and of the Lord Jesus Christ, To the twelve tribes who are dispersed abroad: Greetings.
- Consider it all joy, my brethren, when you encounter various trials,
- knowing that the testing of your faith produces endurance.
- And let endurance have its perfect result, so that you may be perfect and complete, lacking in nothing.
- But if any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask of God, who gives to all generously and without reproach, and it will be given to him.

- 하느님과 주 예수 그리스도의 종 야고보는 사방에 흩어져 사는 이스라엘 열두 지파에게 문안 드립니다.
- 내 형제 여러분, 여러 가지 시련을 당할 때 여러분은 그것을 다시없는 기쁨으로 여기십시오.
- 믿음의 시련을 받으면 인내력이 생긴다는 것을 여러분은 잘 알고 있습니다.
- 인내력을 한껏 발휘하십시오. 그러면 여러분은 조금도 흠잡을 데 없이 완전하고도 원만한 사람이 될 것입니다.
- 만일 여러분 중에 지혜가 부족한 사람이 있으면 하느님께 구하십시오. 그러면 아무도 나무라지 않으시고 모든 사람에게 후하게 주시는 하느님께서 지혜를 주실 것입니다.

- But he must ask in faith without any doubting, for the one who doubts is like the surf of the sea, driven and tossed by the wind.
- For that man ought not to expect that he will receive anything from the Lord,
- being a double-minded man, unstable in all his ways.
- But the brother of humble circumstances is to glory in his high position;
- and the rich man is to glory in his humiliation, because like flowering grass he will pass away.

- 조금도 의심을 품지 말고 오직 믿음으로 구하십시오. 의심을 품는 사람은 바람에 밀려 흔들리는 바다 물결 같습니다.
- 그런 사람은 아예 주님으로부터 아무것도 받을 생각을 말아야 합니다.
- 의심을 품은 사람은 마음이 헷갈려 행동이 불안정합니다.
- 가난한 형제는 하느님께서 높여주시는 것을 기뻐하고
- 부요한 형제는 하느님께서 낮추어주시는 것을 기뻐하십시오. 아무리 부요한 사람이라도 들에 핀 꽃처럼 사라지게 마련입니다.

- For the sun rises with a scorching wind and withers the grass; and its flower falls off and the beauty of its appearance is destroyed; so too the rich man in the midst of his pursuits will fade away.
- Blessed is a man who perseveres under trial; for once he has been approved, he will receive the crown of life which the Lord has promised to those who love Him.
- Let no one say when he is tempted, "I am being tempted by God"; for God cannot be tempted by evil, and He Himself does not tempt anyone.
- But each one is tempted when he is carried away and enticed by his own lust.
- Then when lust has conceived, it gives birth to sin; and when sin is accomplished, it brings forth death.

- 해가 떠서 뜨겁게 내려 쬐면 풀은 마르고 꽃은 져서 그 아름다움이 없어져 버립니다. 이와 같이 부자도 자기 사업에 골몰하는 동안에 죽고 맙니다.
- 시련을 견디어내는 사람은 행복합니다. 시련을 이겨낸 사람은 생명의 월계관을 받을 것입니다. 그 월계관은 하느님께서 당신을 사랑하는 사람들에게 주시겠다고 약속하신 것입니다.
- 유혹을 당할 때에 아무도 "하느님께서 나를 유혹하신다."는 말을 해서는 안 됩니다. 하느님께서는 악의 유혹을 받으실 분도 아니시지만 악을 행하도록 사람을 유혹하실 분도 아니십니다.
- 사실은 사람이 자기 욕심에 끌려서 유혹을 당하고 함정에 빠지게 되는 것입니다.
- 욕심이 잉태하면 죄를 낳고 죄가 자라면 죽음을 가져옵니다.

- Do not be deceived, my beloved brethren.
- Every good thing given and every perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of lights, with whom there is no variation or shifting shadow.
- In the exercise of His will He brought us forth by the word of truth, so that we would be a kind of first fruits among His creatures.

- 나의 사랑하는 형제 여러분, 속지 마십시오.
- 온갖 훌륭한 은혜와 모든 완전한 선물은 위로부터 오는 것입니다. 하늘의 빛들을 만드신 아버지께로부터 내려오는 것입니다. 하느님 아버지는 변함도 없으시고 우리를 외면하심으로써 그늘 속에 버려두시는 일도 없으십니다.
- 하느님께서는 뜻을 정하시고 진리의 말씀으로 우리를 낳으셨습니다. 그래서 우리는 모든 피조물의 첫 열매가 된 것입니다.
