전도서 7:1-9:18

 사람은 그 장래 일을 능히 알지 못하기 때문에 형통한 날에는 기뻐하고 곤고한 날에는 생각하라고 권면하였다. 그리고 하나님의 명령을 지키는 자에게는 재앙이 미치지 못한다고 하였다.
  
  지혜자의 충고(7:1-9:18)    
 
  1. A good name is better than a good ointment, And the day of one's death is better than the day of one's birth.
  2. It is better to go to a house of mourning Than to go to a house of feasting, Because that is the end of every man, And the living takes it to heart.
  3. Sorrow is better than laughter, For when a face is sad a heart may be happy.
  4. The mind of the wise is in the house of mourning, While the mind of fools is in the house of pleasure.
  5. It is better to listen to the rebuke of a wise man Than for one to listen to the song of fools.
  1. 좋은 명성은 값진 향수보다 낫고 죽는 날이 출생하는 날보다 나으며
  2. 초상집에 가는 것이 잔치집에 가는 것보다 낫다. 모두 죽을 수밖에 없으니 살아있을 때 이것을 명심하는 것이 좋다.
  3. 슬픔이 웃음보다 나은 것은 그 슬픔으로 인해서 새로운 것을 깨달을 수 있기 때문이다.
  4. 지혜로운 사람은 죽음에 대해서 많이 생각하지만 어리석은 사람은 눈 앞에 보이는 즐거움밖에 생각하지 못한다.
  5. 지혜로운 사람의 책망을 듣는 것이 어리석은 사람의 칭찬을 듣는 것보다 낫다.
  1. For as the crackling of thorn bushes under a pot, So is the laughter of the fool; And this too is futility.
  2. For oppression makes a wise man mad, And a bribe corrupts the heart.
  3. The end of a matter is better than its beginning; Patience of spirit is better than haughtiness of spirit.
  4. Do not be eager in your heart to be angry, For anger resides in the bosom of fools.
  5. Do not say, "Why is it that the former days were better than these?" For it is not from wisdom that you ask about this.
  1. 어리석은 사람의 웃음 소리는 솥밑에서 가시나무가 타는 것 같으니 이것도 헛된 것이다.
  2. 탐욕은 지혜로운 사람을 어리석게 만들고 뇌물은 사람의 마음을 부패하게 한다.
  3. 일의 끝이 시작보다 낫고 인내가 교만보다 낫다.
  4. 성급하게 화를 내지 말아라. 그것은 바보들이나 하는 짓이다.
  5. '어째서 지금이 옛날보다 못한가?' 하고 묻지 말아라. 그것은 현명한 질문이 못 된다.
  1. Wisdom along with an inheritance is good And an advantage to those who see the sun.
  2. For wisdom is protection just as money is protection, But the advantage of knowledge is that wisdom preserves the lives of its possessors.
  3. Consider the work of God, For who is able to straighten what He has bent?
  4. In the day of prosperity be happy, But in the day of adversity consider-- God has made the one as well as the other So that man will not discover anything that will be after him.
  5. I have seen everything during my lifetime of futility; there is a righteous man who perishes in his righteousness and there is a wicked man who prolongs his life in his wickedness.
  1. 지혜는 유산처럼 좋은 것이며 세상을 살아가는 자에게 유익한 것이다.
  2. 지혜로도 보호를 받을 수 있고 돈으로도 보호를 받을 수 있으나 지혜가 더 유익한 것은 그것이 소유한 자의 생명을 보존하기 때문이다.
  3. 하나님이 행하신 일을 생각하라. 하나님이 굳게 하신 것을 누가 바르게 할 수 있겠는가?
  4. 일이 잘되어 갈 때는 기뻐하고 어려움을 당할 때는 생각하라. 하나님은 행복도 주시고 고난도 주시므로 다음에 무슨 일이 일어날지 사람은 알 수가 없다.
  5. 나는 헛된 세상살이에서 모든 것을 보았다. 의로운 사람도 젊어서 죽는 사람이 있고 악한 사람도 오래 사는 사람이 있으니
  1. Do not be excessively righteous and do not be overly wise. Why should you ruin yourself?
  2. Do not be excessively wicked and do not be a fool. Why should you die before your time?
  3. It is good that you grasp one thing and also not let go of the other; for the one who fears God comes forth with both of them.
  4. Wisdom strengthens a wise man more than ten rulers who are in a city.
  5. Indeed, there is not a righteous man on earth who continually does good and who never sins.
  1. 지나치게 의로운 사람이 되지 말고 지나치게 지혜로운 사람도 되지 말아라. 스스로 패망할 이유가 무엇인가?
  2. 지나치게 악인이 되거나 지나치게 어리석은 사람도 되지 말아라. 때가 되기도 전에 죽을 이유가 무엇인가?
  3. 이와 같이 극단적인 것을 피하는 것이 좋다. 하나님을 두려워하는 마음으로 섬기는 자는 어쨌든 이 모든 것을 피할 수 있을 것이다.
  4. 한 사람의 지혜로운 자가 권력을 가진 열 사람보다 도시를 위해서 더 많은 일을 할 수 있다.
  5. 항상 옳은 일만 하고 죄를 짓지 않는 의인은 세상에 하나도 없다.
  1. Also, do not take seriously all words which are spoken, so that you will not hear your servant cursing you.
  2. For you also have realized that you likewise have many times cursed others.
  3. I tested all this with wisdom, and I said, "I will be wise," but it was far from me.
  4. What has been is remote and exceedingly mysterious Who can discover it?
  5. I directed my mind to know, to investigate and to seek wisdom and an explanation, and to know the evil of folly and the foolishness of madness.
  1. 사람들이 하는 말을 다 들으려고 하지 말아라. 그러다가는 네 종이 너를 저주하는 소리도 듣게 될지 모른다.
  2. 너도 다른 사람을 여러 번 저주한 것을 네 자신이 알고 있다.
  3. 내가 지혜로 이 모든 것을 시험하며 지혜로운 자가 되겠다고 결심하였으나 그것은 나를 멀리 떠나 있었다.
  4. 지혜가 무엇이든 그것이 멀고 심오하기만 하니 누가 그것을 찾을 수 있겠는가?
  5. 나는 최선을 다하여 지혜를 찾고 연구하며 사물의 이치를 깨닫고 악한 것이 어리석은 것이며 어리석은 것이 미친 것임을 알고자 하였다.
  1. And I discovered more bitter than death the woman whose heart is snares and nets, whose hands are chains One who is pleasing to God will escape from her, but the sinner will be captured by her.
  2. "Behold, I have discovered this," says the Preacher, "adding one thing to another to find an explanation,
  3. which I am still seeking but have not found. I have found one man among a thousand, but I have not found a woman among all these.
  4. "Behold, I have found only this, that God made men upright, but they have sought out many devices."
  1. 내가 한 가지 깨달은 사실은 죽음보다 더 지독한 것이 있는데 그것은 마음이 덫이나 그물 같고 손이 쇠사슬과 같은 여자이다. 하나님을 기쁘게 하는 자는 그런 여자를 피하지만 죄인은 그녀의 덫에 걸리고 만다.
  2. 나 전도자가 찾고 연구하는 중에 알게 된 것은 이것이다.
  3. 1,000명의 사람 가운데 지혜로운 남자는 하나밖에 없었으며 그 1,000명 가운데 지혜로운 여자는 하나도 없었다.
  4. 그리고 내가 깨달은 것은 하나님이 사람을 정직하게 만드셨으나 인간은 여러 가지 꾀를 생각해 냈다는 것이다.
 
 
  1. Who is like the wise man and who knows the interpretation of a matter? A man's wisdom illumines him and causes his stern face to beam.
  2. I say, "Keep the command of the king because of the oath before God.
  3. "Do not be in a hurry to leave him. Do not join in an evil matter, for he will do whatever he pleases."
  4. Since the word of the king is authoritative, who will say to him, "What are you doing?"
  5. He who keeps a royal command experiences no trouble, for a wise heart knows the proper time and procedure.
  1. 누가 지혜로운 사람과 같겠는가? 사물의 이치를 설명할 수 있는 자가 누구인가? 지혜는 사람의 얼굴에 광채가 나게 하고 굳은 얼굴 표정을 바꾸어 놓는다.
  2. 하나님 앞에서 서약한 대로 왕의 명령에 순종하라.
  3. 자기 직무를 벗어나려고 하지 말며 악한 일에 끼어들지 말아라. 왕은 자기가 하고 싶은 것을 마음대로 할 수가 있다.
  4. 왕의 말은 권위가 있다. 누가 감히 왕에게 무엇을 하느냐고 말할 수 있겠는가?
  5. 왕의 명령을 지키면 해를 입지 않을 것이다. 지혜로운 사람은 왕의 명령을 수행할 시기와 방법을 안다.
  1. For there is a proper time and procedure for every delight, though a man's trouble is heavy upon him.
  2. If no one knows what will happen, who can tell him when it will happen?
  3. No man has authority to restrain the wind with the wind, or authority over the day of death; and there is no discharge in the time of war, and evil will not deliver those who practice it.
  4. All this I have seen and applied my mind to every deed that has been done under the sun wherein a man has exercised authority over another man to his hurt.
  5. So then, I have seen the wicked buried, those who used to go in and out from the holy place, and they are soon forgotten in the city where they did thus. This too is futility.
  1. 모든 일을 하는 데는 적절한 시기와 방법이 있으나 우리는 그것에 대해서 잘 모르고 있다.
  2. 앞으로 일어날 일을 아무도 모르는데 누가 장래 일을 말해 줄 수 있겠는가?
  3. 떠나는 영을 붙들 사람이 없고 죽는 날을 연장할 사람도 없으며 전시에는 제대도 없고 악이 악인을 구해 낼 수도 없다.
  4. 내가 이 세상의 모든 일을 잘 살펴보니 어떤 사람은 권력을 가지고 다른 사람을 지배하며 또 어떤 사람은 그 지배하에서 고통을 당한다.
  5. 악인들은 죽어 무덤에 묻히고 그를 묻고 돌아오는 길에 사람들은 죽은 자들의 악을 다 잊어버리며 죽은 자들은 자기들이 범죄하던 바로 그 도시에서 칭찬을 받으니 이것도 헛된 것이다.
  1. Because the sentence against an evil deed is not executed quickly, therefore the hearts of the sons of men among them are given fully to do evil.
  2. Although a sinner does evil a hundred times and may lengthen his life, still I know that it will be well for those who fear God, who fear Him openly.
  3. But it will not be well for the evil man and he will not lengthen his days like a shadow, because he does not fear God.
  4. There is futility which is done on the earth, that is, there are righteous men to whom it happens according to the deeds of the wicked On the other hand, there are evil men to whom it happens according to the deeds of the righteous. I say that this too is futility.
  5. So I commended pleasure, for there is nothing good for a man under the sun except to eat and to drink and to be merry, and this will stand by him in his toils throughout the days of his life which God has given him under the sun.
  1. 하나님이 죄인들을 즉시 벌하시지 않기 때문에 사람들의 마음이 악을 행하는 데 담대하다.
  2. 죄인이 백 번을 범죄하고도 여전히 살아 남을 수 있을는지 모르지만 내가 알기에는 하나님을 두려운 마음으로 섬기는 자가 분명히 잘될 것이다.
  3. 그러나 악인은 하나님을 두려워하지 않으므로 그는 잘되지 못하고 그들의 사는 날이 그림자와 같아서 곧 죽고 말 것이다.
  4. 세상에는 이해할 수 없는 일이 많이 있다. 의로운 사람이 악인의 벌을 받는 경우가 있고 악인이 의로운 사람의 상을 받는 경우도 있으니 이것도 헛된 것이다.
  5. 그래서 사람은 인생을 즐길 수 있어야 한다. 이 세상에서 먹고 마시며 즐거워하는 것보다 더 좋은 것은 없기 때문이다. 그러나 이런 즐거움은 이 세상에서 하나님이 주신 삶을 사는 동안 열심히 일하는 데서 찾아야 한다.
  1. When I gave my heart to know wisdom and to see the task which has been done on the earth (even though one should never sleep day or night),
  2. and I saw every work of God, I concluded that man cannot discover the work which has been done under the sun Even though man should seek laboriously, he will not discover; and though the wise man should say, "I know," he cannot discover.
  1. 나는 지혜를 추구하며 세상에서 일어나는 일을 알려고 애쓰는 가운데 밤낮 자지 않고 일만 하는 자가 있음을 알았다.
  2. 그리고 하나님이 하시는 일을 살펴보니 세상에서 되어지는 일을 사람은 이해할 수가 없다. 아무리 애써서 찾는다고 해도 그 의미를 찾을 수가 없으며 지혜로운 자가 다 안다고 주장하여도 실제로 그것을 이해할 수가 없다.
 
 
  1. For I have taken all this to my heart and explain it that righteous men, wise men, and their deeds are in the hand of God Man does not know whether it will be love or hatred; anything awaits him.
  2. It is the same for all There is one fate for the righteous and for the wicked; for the good, for the clean and for the unclean; for the man who offers a sacrifice and for the one who does not sacrifice. As the good man is, so is the sinner; as the swearer is, so is the one who is afraid to swear.
  3. This is an evil in all that is done under the sun, that there is one fate for all men Furthermore, the hearts of the sons of men are full of evil and insanity is in their hearts throughout their lives. Afterwards they go to the dead.
  4. For whoever is joined with all the living, there is hope; surely a live dog is better than a dead lion.
  5. For the living know they will die; but the dead do not know anything, nor have they any longer a reward, for their memory is forgotten.
  1. 나는 신중하게 모든 일을 살펴보고 의로운 사람이나 지혜로운 사람이나 그들이 하는 모든 일이 하나님의 손에 달려 있다는 결론을 내렸다. 그러나 사람은 자기에게 기다리고 있는 것이 사랑인지 미움인지 알지 못한다.
  2. 인간은 하나의 공동 운명체이다. 의로운 자와 악한 자, 선한 사람과 나쁜 사람, 깨끗한 자와 더러운 자, 제사를 드리는 자와 제사를 드리지 않는 자가 다같은 운명이 처해 있으니 선한 사람이 죄인보다 나은 것이 없고 맹세를 하는 자가 맹세하지 않는 자보다 나은 것이 없다.
  3. 인간이 같은 운명에 처해 있다는 것은 공평하지 못한 일이다. 그래서 사람들은 구태여 선하게 살려고 애쓰지 않고 한평생을 미친 개처럼 살다가 결국 저 세상으로 가고 만다.
  4. 그래도 살아 있는 자가 희망이 있는 것은 살아 있는 개가 죽은 사자보다 낫기 때문이다.
  5. 살아있는 자들은 죽을 것을 알지만 죽은 자들은 아무것도 모르며 다시는 상도 받지 못하고 그들의 기억은 영원히 사라지고 만다.
  1. Indeed their love, their hate and their zeal have already perished, and they will no longer have a share in all that is done under the sun.
  2. Go then, eat your bread in happiness and drink your wine with a cheerful heart; for God has already approved your works.
  3. Let your clothes be white all the time, and let not oil be lacking on your head.
  4. Enjoy life with the woman whom you love all the days of your fleeting life which He has given to you under the sun; for this is your reward in life and in your toil in which you have labored under the sun.
  5. Whatever your hand finds to do, do it with all your might; for there is no activity or planning or knowledge or wisdom in Sheol where you are going.
  1. 그들의 사랑과 미움과 질투도 그들의 죽음과 함께 다 사라지고 그들은 이 세상에서 일어나는 그 어떤 일에도 참여하지 못할 것이다.
  2. 너는 가서 기쁨으로 음식을 먹고 즐거운 마음으로 포도주를 마셔라. 하나님은 네가 하는 일을 이미 인정하셨다.
  3. 너는 항상 깨끗한 옷을 입고 머리를 단정하게 손질하여라.
  4. 이 세상에서 하나님이 너에게 주신 덧없는 삶을 사는 동안 너는 네가 사랑하는 아내와 인생을 즐겨라. 이것은 이 세상에서 네가 수고한 것에 대한 보상이다.
  5. 너는 무슨 일을 하든지 최선을 다하라. 네가 앞으로 들어갈 무덤에는 일도 없고 계획도 없으며 지식이나 지혜도 없다.
  1. I again saw under the sun that the race is not to the swift and the battle is not to the warriors, and neither is bread to the wise nor wealth to the discerning nor favor to men of ability; for time and chance overtake them all.
  2. Moreover, man does not know his time: like fish caught in a treacherous net and birds trapped in a snare, so the sons of men are ensnared at an evil time when it suddenly falls on them.
  3. Also this I came to see as wisdom under the sun, and it impressed me.
  4. There was a small city with few men in it and a great king came to it, surrounded it and constructed large siegeworks against it.
  5. But there was found in it a poor wise man and he delivered the city by his wisdom Yet no one remembered that poor man.
  1. 내가 세상을 살펴보니 빨리 달리는 사람이라고 해서 경주에서 언제나 일등을 하는 것은 아니며 강하다고 해서 언제나 전쟁에서 승리하는 것이 아니다. 지혜로운 사람이라고 해서 언제나 생활비를 많이 버는 것이 아니며 총명한 사람이라고 해서 언제나 부를 얻는 것도 아니고 유능하다고 해서 언제나 높은 지위를 얻는 것이 아니다 이것은 사람에게 뜻하지 않은 일이 일어나기 때문이다.
  2. 사람은 언제 불행한 일을 당할지 그 때를 알지 못한다. 물고기가 그물에 걸리고 새가 덫에 걸리듯이 사람도 갑자기 재앙이 밀어닥치면 거기에 걸리고 만다.
  3. 나는 지혜의 좋은 예를 보고 깊은 인상을 받은 적이 있다.
  4. 인구가 별로 많지 않은 조그만 성이 하나 있었는데 어느 강력한 왕이 자기 군대를 이끌고 와서 그 성을 포위하고 성벽을 무너뜨리려고 하였다.
  5. 이때 그 성 안에 가난하지만 아주 지혜로운 사람이 하나 있었다. 그가 지혜로 그 성을 구했으나 그 후에 이 가난한 자를 기억하는 사람은 하나도 없었다.
  1. So I said, "Wisdom is better than strength." But the wisdom of the poor man is despised and his words are not heeded.
  2. The words of the wise heard in quietness are better than the shouting of a ruler among fools.
  3. Wisdom is better than weapons of war, but one sinner destroys much good.
  1. 그래서 나는 지혜가 힘보다 낫지만 지혜로운 사람이 가난하면 무시를 당하고 그가 하는 말을 인정해 주는 자가 없음을 알게 되었다.
  2. 지혜로운 사람의 조용한 말이 어리석은 임금의 호령하는 소리보다 낫다.
  3. 지혜가 무기보다 낫지만 한 사람의 죄인이 많은 선을 해친다.
