- Now after Jesus was born in Bethlehem of Judea in the days of Herod the king, magi from the east arrived in Jerusalem, saying,
- "Where is He who has been born King of the Jews? For we saw His star in the east and have come to worship Him."
- When Herod the king heard this, he was troubled, and all Jerusalem with him.
- Gathering together all the chief priests and scribes of the people, he inquired of them where the Messiah was to be born.
- They said to him, "In Bethlehem of Judea; for this is what has been written by the prophet:

- 헤롯 왕 때에, 예수께서 유대 베들레헴에서 나셨다. 그런데 동방으로부터 박사들이 예루살렘에 와서
- 말하였다. "유대인의 왕으로 나신 이가 어디에 계십니까? 우리가 동방에서 그의 별을 보고, 그에게 경배하러 왔습니다."
- 헤롯 왕은 이 말을 듣고 당황하였고, 온 예루살렘 사람들도 그와 함께 당황하였다.
- 왕은 백성의 대제사장들과 율법 교사들을 다 모아 놓고서, 그리스도가 어디에서 태어나실지를 그들에게 물어 보았다.
- 그들이 왕에게 말하였다. "유대 베들레헴입니다. 예언자가 이렇게 기록하여 놓았습니다.

- 'AND YOU, BETHLEHEM, LAND OF JUDAH, ARE BY NO MEANS LEAST AMONG THE LEADERS OF JUDAH; FOR OUT OF YOU SHALL COME FORTH A RULER WHO WILL SHEPHERD MY PEOPLE ISRAEL.'"
- Then Herod secretly called the magi and determined from them the exact time the star appeared.
- And he sent them to Bethlehem and said, "Go and search carefully for the Child; and when you have found Him, report to me, so that I too may come and worship Him."
- After hearing the king, they went their way; and the star, which they had seen in the east, went on before them until it came and stood over the place where the Child was.
- When they saw the star, they rejoiced exceedingly with great joy.

- '너 유대 땅에 있는 베들레헴아, 너는 유대 고을 가운데서 아주 작지가 않다. 너에게서 통치자가 나올 것이니, 그가 내 백성 이스라엘을 다스릴 것이다.'"
- 그 때에 헤롯은 그 박사들을 가만히 불러서, 별이 나타난 때를 캐어묻고,

- 그들은 그 별을 보고, 무척이나 크게 기뻐하였다.

- After coming into the house they saw the Child with Mary His mother; and they fell to the ground and worshiped Him. Then, opening their treasures, they presented to Him gifts of gold, frankincense, and myrrh.
- And having been warned by God in a dream not to return to Herod, the magi left for their own country by another way.
- Now when they had gone, behold, an angel of the Lord appeared to Joseph in a dream and said, "Get up! Take the Child and His mother and flee to Egypt, and remain there until I tell you; for Herod is going to search for the Child to destroy Him."
- So Joseph got up and took the Child and His mother while it was still night, and left for Egypt.
- He remained there until the death of Herod. This was to fulfill what had been spoken by the Lord through the prophet: "OUT OF EGYPT I CALLED MY SON."

- Then when Herod saw that he had been tricked by the magi, he became very enraged, and sent and slew all the male children who were in Bethlehem and all its vicinity, from two years old and under, according to the time which he had determined from the magi.
- Then what had been spoken through Jeremiah the prophet was fulfilled:
- "A VOICE WAS HEARD IN RAMAH, WEEPING AND GREAT MOURNING, RACHEL WEEPING FOR HER CHILDREN; AND SHE REFUSED TO BE COMFORTED, BECAUSE THEY WERE NO MORE."
- But when Herod died, behold, an angel of the Lord appeared in a dream to Joseph in Egypt, and said,
- "Get up, take the Child and His mother, and go into the land of Israel; for those who sought the Child's life are dead."

- 헤롯은 박사들에게 속은 것을 알고, 몹시 노하였다. 그는 사람을 보내어, 그 박사들에게 알아 본 때를 기준으로, 베들레헴과 그 가까운 온 지역에 사는, 두 살짜리로부터 그 아래의 사내아이를 모조리 죽였다.
- 이리하여 예언자 예레미야를 시켜서 하신 말씀이 이루어졌다.
- "라마에서 소리가 들려왔다. 울부짖으며, 크게 슬피 우는 소리다. 라헬이 자식들을 잃고 우는데, 자식들이 없어졌으므로, 위로를 받으려 하지 않았다."
- 헤롯이 죽은 뒤에, 주님의 천사가 이집트에 있는 요셉에게 꿈에 나타나서
- 말하였다. "일어나서, 아기와 그 어머니를 데리고 이스라엘 땅으로 가거라. 그 아기의 목숨을 노리던 자들이 죽었다."

- So Joseph got up, took the Child and His mother, and came into the land of Israel.
- But when he heard that Archelaus was reigning over Judea in place of his father Herod, he was afraid to go there. Then after being warned by God in a dream, he left for the regions of Galilee,
- and came and lived in a city called Nazareth This was to fulfill what was spoken through the prophets: "He shall be called a Nazarene."

- 요셉이 일어나서, 아기와 그 어머니를 데리고 이스라엘 땅으로 들어왔다.
- 그러나 요셉은, 아켈라오가 그 아버지 헤롯을 이어서 유대 지방의 왕이 되었다는 말을 듣고, 그 곳으로 가기를 두려워하였다. 그는 꿈에 지시를 받고, 갈릴리 지방으로 물러가서,
- 나사렛이라는 동네로 가서 살았다. 이리하여 예언자들을 시켜서 말씀하신 바, "그는 나사렛 사람이라고 불릴 것이다" 하신 말씀이 이루어졌다.
