- 깨끗한 마음을 간절히 바라며 덕을 끼치는 말을 하는 사람은, 왕의 친구가 된다.
- 주님의 눈은 지식 있는 사람을 지켜 보시지만, 신의가 없는 사람의 말은 뒤엎으신다.
- 게으른 사람은 핑계 대기를 "바깥에 사자가 있다. 거리에 나가면 찢겨 죽는다" 한다.
- 음행하는 여자의 입은 깊은 함정이니, 주님의 저주를 받는 사람이 거기에 빠진다.
- 아이의 마음에는 미련한 것이 얽혀 있으나, 훈계의 매가 그것을 멀리 쫓아낸다.

- Incline your ear and hear the words of the wise, And apply your mind to my knowledge;

- 이익을 탐해서, 가난한 사람을 학대하는 사람과, 부자에게 자꾸 가져다 주는 사람은, 가난해질 뿐이다.
- 귀를 기울여서 지혜 있는 사람의 말을 듣고, 나의 가르침을 너의 마음에 새겨라.
- 그것을 깊이 간직하며, 그것을 모두 너의 입술로 말하면, 너에게 즐거움이 된다.
- 이는 네가 주님을 의뢰하며 살도록 하려고 오늘 내가 너에게 특별히 알려 주는 것이다.
- 내가 너에게, 건전한 충고가 담긴 서른 가지 교훈을 써 주지 않았느냐?

- 이는 네가 진리의 말씀을 깨달아서, 너에게 묻는 사람에게 바른 대답을 할 수 있게 하려 함이다.
